Hi,
I am having some issues with my phone. From one day to another it stopped working, did not turn on, stuck on boot streen.
I searched the net and found that I should reset firmware using Odin.
Installed USB Drivers and now I tried 5 different firmwares, stock and custom, PIT as well. It seems like Odin is having issues writing to the phone.
The operation ends with "odin fail nand write start".
I cannot get anything flashed to the phone via Odin - what can I do?
Is there a way to flash using an micro-SD or another tool I can try?
At the moment I have no MicroSD and no Sim inserted..

Have you tried different usb cables, usb ports and computers?

Are you using the correct version of ODIN? (3.07) ODIN detects your phone right? If so, and you can't send anything via PC, your phone's usb port is probably dead.
I tried with Odin 3.07 and 3.10. Yes, Odin recognizes the phone and starts but then fails after ~ 5-10 minutes while doing nothing

And your phone is in download mode? Have you put custom recovery on your phone? If so, you would have been able to flash rom.
The phone did not start after shutting it down one day. I had no alternative firmware or anything else installed before.
Wen powering up the boot screen is all I see "Samsung Galaxy S II" It does not do anything else and I have to pull the battery to turn it off.
Reset using pwr.up + home + power does not work, it kept switching back and forth between the android pic and "Samsung Galaxy..."
I can get into Download Mode though, that is what I did before plugging in to PC.
Download Mode shows the following
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: GT-i9100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: NO
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
I just want to flash a German stock firmware and for the phone to work, not experiment with different ROMS etc..

What about trying a different stock rom (e.g. different version or from different region since all stock roms are multilingual)? Try downloading a different stock rom and flash it with odin.
I had already tried with another non-stock ROM, it failed at the same point.. But I will try one more
Heimdall can't write to phone either
I get the exact same trouble with the same phone (GT-i9100) since today.
Before that, everything worked fine : I used Cyanogenmod 11 on it. Today suddenly it rebooted and have been stucked on the Galaxy splash screen since then.
The only thing I can do is boot in Download mode.
I tried the exact same steps but with Heimdall 1.4.0 from Ubuntu (removed SIM and SD card, tried 2 differents USB cables, differents USB port of my laptop, tried to install Stock ROM) with no more luck than you.
Any help will be appreciated.
I recommend to start from zero, this way is clean.... with ODIN and to try different roms sotcks.... in the web of sammy... there a lot..... and try with an alone PDA it is sufficient to restore the i9100...
No need sd internal.. and no need sim to test de rom stock.
Advance users.... Tell me if I am wrong....
Leo
We do not have choice anyway (only Download mode is accessible) so we have to start from zero.
BTW, What do you mean by sammy web. Any link ? I tried the original stock rom I got with the phone with no luck.
Anyway it seems that Heimdall is unable to write anything to the phone.

what about getting into the custom recovery? Are you sure you can only get into download mode? Did you use the correct button combination? Since you have cm11, you can flash a different rom via recovery. Remember to factory reset, wipe cache, format system before flashing new rom.

Unfortunately yes I am sure to use correct combination : Volume Up+Home then Power during 3 seconds and still pressing Volume Up+Home does nothing, or to be precise only the Samsung Galaxy Logo nothing more.
Only Volume Down+Home+Power work and get me to Download mode.

With heimdall it seems the software is not able to end session.
For instance here is the output I got when trying to download the current PIT :
Code:
Heimdall v1.4.0
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
Claiming interface...
Attempt failed. Detaching driver...
Claiming interface again...
Setting up interface...
Initialising protocol...
Protocol initialisation successful.
Beginning session...
Some devices may take up to 2 minutes to respond.
Please be patient!
Session begun.
Downloading device's PIT file...
PIT file download successful.
Ending session...
ERROR: Failed to receive session end confirmation!
Releasing device interface...
Re-attaching kernel driver...
Using verbose mode in Heimdall I get random errors when it tries to end a session (even with simple task as when downloading PIT data), and even sometime when it tries to simply detect the device (same thing under Windows 7 and Mac OS X):
Code:
ERROR: Failed to access device. libusb error: 501862035
How to be sure it is a software problem and not an hard one (around USB module) ?
Is there any update on this issue?
I still cannot use the phone..
Does anyone know someone in east-western Germany (OWL) that is really fit when it comes to flashing Samsung phones??
After having let an official Samsung local repair store tried to factory reset it whitout more success than me, the phone seems to finally have become a real hard brick
Unfortunately I do not have access to JTAG stuff which may be the last hope for this one.

i havent been able to get into recovery at all
Maybe try flashing a different Odin file like Fishman's Bionix and see if that jars something loose. Maybe a change of files is all you need.
@Toast - he said he tried Odin a few times, so he can get into DLmode, I assume. I wonder if he flashes just the Pit file, if it would do anything. Maybe flash the Pit file alone and then flash the PDA and Pit file together after that. Jsut pulling straws here on that one but I would try my first suggestion though.

How does Odin act when your phone is connected to it in download mode?
As Woodrube stated, I would try a couple of his suggestions. Try a different USB port, preferably not one in front, but a hard mounted USB in back would he great. (Not a PCI addon).
I too suggest you try to flash an Odin image of fishmans bionix.
See where that takes us.
Edit: you answered most of this while I was waiting on my post to post.
Try grabbing that bionix ROM Odin file and flashing that.

When you try to get into download mode now, you might not get the yellow triagle/android with the shovel but make sure the Yellow Com button lights up in Odin. Might take you a few tries to get into DLmode now but once you do,
Fishman has multiple Odin images that can be used that alreayd have root and custom recovery included. Get one of those to boot up and you are good to go on to your next ROM.

If you are getting a "Phone.. ! ..Computer" image (seen above) when booting phone, yes, you are bricked but it is reversible! Just follow these steps...
Make sure you have ODIN OPEN with admin privileges!
1.) Take off your back cover, remove your sim & mirco sd card.
2.) Remove your battery.
Make sure you have the USB plugged into your PC but NOT your phone!
3.) Hold the volume buttons.
4.) Put the battery in.
5.) Put the USB in.
You don't necessarily need the download mode image to be present. As long as you are getting the COM ID to light up yellow in ODIN, just flash back to stock like normal.

Edit:: Just to rule this out and I by no means want this to reflect badly, but your signature says At&t GS3. Did you flash to correct PIT file for the Vibrant? Just wondering bc there is no reason it should be hardbricked by just flashing files through Odin unless the bootloader got corrupted, whcih you didn't touch those.

Well, its possible that it is/will get into download mode and the screen still stay off.. it can look dead as a field mouse and still work in Odin.
Just keep trying
Pull battery, button combo for download mode plug in and see if Odin will finally see it. Then flash Fishmans Bionix w/ his Odin files. I don't see really how you could be bricked for any long term or anything.

Hey guys, so on fishmans odin pda as soon as odin finishes the phone, does not go to recovery like it says, in the direction it just goes straight to the battery!
Good evening friends, dev and other community members, recently my galaxy player connect to computer for music happen all good so far, when I go back to check if I end up spending the entire music encounter the following message on the screen of the Galaxy Player "Firmware Upgrade Encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again"
Do not let me enter recovery mode and when I can go to download mode and give the up volume key returns to the same screen, besides the samsung kies does not recognize it, I should clarify that this model only has physical volume buttons and power.
It would be helpful and useful if anyone knows how to fix this error.
Thanks in advance :good:
Well, I don't see how this is development for one. But concerning your problem, it sounds odd. Are you saying that it won't even let you enter download mode? Does your player even boot, or is it bricked? Have you tried to see if you can enter recovery mode?

I know and I apologize I think is not the right section for this question.
When trying to enter download mode goes indeed to ask you to continue pressing the volume up again the same screen, I can not enter recovery mode falls on the same screen and not a brick if the galaxy player.
I let you capture the screen, please respond and apologize to the trouble my friend.:good:

I have reinstalled the drivers numerous times. Also, the same download mode problem. When I press continue to use ODIN download mode, it goes right back to the firmware upgrade error screen. Ik this is kind of a late answer, but odin should be able to reflash the device, and if not, try rebooting the computer to see if you can get it to work again. That's how i got mine to turn on..But the dang touchscreen still doesn't work
Major Problem
Hi guys. I notice it has been a while since anyone posted anything in this thread, but today I encountered a serious problem. My Galaxy Player is stuck in the same position as the one mentioned in this thread, but I reached it in a different way. I was trying to flash the rooted ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864741 : I have the US Version) using odin, and I followed all the steps. While doing it, Odin said it had failed, then I got the "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue" screen on my player. I can't enter download mode and my computer doesn't recognize it. The few times it does, it just says "Connecting.." in Kies and won't go past that. I've looked everywhere and couldn't find anything that works. Is there anything I can do? I feel like its just a soft brick but I really don't know. Please help.
I randomly get this while using heimdall to flash the cwm kernel. I just flash again until it works. The firmware error is the same as Odin download mode as far as I can tell.

Hi all ,
i had installed an official galaxy s2 4.1.2 rom ,and it worked perfectly. However ,all of a sudden ,it looked like it automatically updated ,and got stucked at "Optimizing app 2 of 9" or something like that . I waited for a while ,when nothing changed i have pulled out the battery and tried restarting it. So it just showed the samsung logo and didnt boot. When i tried entering the recovery mode ,it just stucked with the green JB icon..basically i could just login to download mode . I have tried flashing the rom again via odin ,but it got stucked at "factory.img" and eventually wrote "FAIL" in red . I have tried numerous roms ,stock roms but nothing seemed to work.(same problem). Now when i power up the device ,it says "Firware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again." I have tried flashing just the ClockworkMOD recovery ,but it also got stucked at "NAND Write Start!" and did nothing...
Another thing is ,that im afraid that i was running a really low space on my internal storage (16 gb) and im afraid that this is why nothing can be installed on my device..Could it be possible?
If so ,is there some way to access my storage somehow without booting up my device? Or in a worse case , how can i wipe my storage before the odin flashes?
Thanks in advance.

Try another odin version/usb cable/usb port/another pc/laptop.
I have tried different usb ports ,different computer and also different Odin version.
When i am trying to flash a complete rom ,it stucks at factoryfs.img, and if i am flashing just a kernel ,it stucks at "NAND Write Start" ...I have only one usb cable though , but it should be working fine because i was able to transfer files with it not long ago.
Could it be that lack of storage on my internal card is causing this kind of problem...?
Which sgs2 model do you have? (I9100, I9100G, I9100M, I9100P, I9100?, etc etc etc).
Which specific rom/files did you flash? (link)
These are the questions you should have answered in your first post prior to writing anything else. Without this info anything else you write is useless.
Can you provide screen shot of ODIN before clicking flash button.

Try flashing jb leak (phone, csc & modem, nothing else).
If that doesn't work, we could be talking nand corruption.
Thanks dude ,i will try it now.
What does it mean ,"nand corruption"?

device's internal memory corrupted, can't write/read it.
That's what partitions (pit files) are for.
Well ,that didnt work as well...same scenario. I tried flashing just the rom via pda ,i tried all 4 files at the same time ,i tried just the pit...always got stucked.
I guess i will take it to my mobile service provider ,unless there is something else i could try?
P.S - If my internal card is corrupted , will they be able to see i flashed a custom rom and rooted the device?

Lol, don't just flash pit files.
Read something about pit files first. There are a lot of threads regarding this topic.
Still stucked in boot right? no back up whatsoever?
Flash different siya's versions, see if you can get to recovery. When you do, try flashing a rom via CMW.

Try imageshark.us or imagevenue.com to upload to an url.
Or post as an attachment.
I think it's force download, flash any Stock ROM via Odin.

Forced download mode. Get a stock rom from Samfirmware & flash it with Odin (search XDA for instructions).
Edit - And while you might think it's urgent, people will help you when someone who is able to help reads your thread. Not before. Be patient once you make a thread.

when i turn off and turn on again...it still same image appeare...
Keep trying to get into download mode. Turn phone off, hold power/home/volume down. If you still can't get into DL mode, try a jig. If you still can't get into DL mode even with a jig, service centre.

hold the button needed to go into odin mode and once the screen appears, try using odin. that happened to my phone once. i took my phone out in the middle of an odin update. the same screen appeared. i just put it back in and odin worked fine.
OP - I just realised something when I was outside having a smoke just now. The phone *is* already in download mode when you have those symbols on the screen (had a blonde moment earlier). It's just a matter of getting Odin to recognise the phone.
So....You need to try as many of the below steps as you need to in order to have Odin recognise the phone:-
*Must run Odin as administrator in Windoze.
*Ensure Kies & it's processes aren't running in Windoze task manager. Kill them if they are.
*Try different USB ports; you must be using a 'powered' or mainboard port.
*Try different USB cables (particularly the cable that came with the phone if you're not using it now)
*Try different versions of Odin (If you're using V3, use V1.3, and if that doesn't work use V1.85; search on here/Google)
*Uninstall Kies, reboot, redownload & reinstall it, reboot, try the flash again.
*Run Windoze Update.
And if all this fails, try a different PC. And if it won't work first time on another PC, go thru the above steps on that PC.
if odin doesn't recognize your device, maybe your PC doesn't have USB drivers installed.
I faced this problem when i tried to flash NeatROM but failed, and I want to get it back with the older kernel using odin, but my laptop doesn't recognize the device. I have tried different ports, but still the same.
I got the solutions by reading this thread, and finally getting directed to THIS THREAD.
- Download SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe, and install it on your PC.
- Open ODIN whatever version and plug your device (at this point odin should recognize your device)
- flash the kernel you want
I hope my post will help

I woke up this morning to my phone stuck on the boot screen. I have tried pulling the battery and turning the phone back on and it still gets stuck at the same screen. I am running alliance build 26. have also tried booting in to recovery but it just gets stuck at the teamwin blue screen. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'm assuming that you were on 4.1.2 with unlocked bootloader since you have TWRP on the phone.
You might have something that's become corrupted in data/cache. You can try to ODIN flash the stock recovery back to the phone (see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2792511), then try wiping the cache, doing factory reset, and see if it will boot up again. (This will wipe all your data on the ROM, so hopefully you have a nandroid backup). If that seems to fix things, you can ODIN flash TWRP back to the phone and then restore a previous backup. (If you were on 4.3 with safestrap... then don't try to ODIN flash the stock recovery because the bootloader is locked).
If that doesn't fix things, sounds like you may have to use ODIN to restore to stock 4.1.2, then run CASUAL again, etc... Section 1b on Droidstyle's guide will help you restore to stock if needed: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024207

Does your phone still boot into Download (Odin) mode?
If you could post the log from Odin, it should list the error that happened when it failed and this would assist others to help you troubleshoot.
Edit : This YouTube video shows one idea to try to get Odin to recognize the phone again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YO7TVY2UXEY&feature=youtube_gdata_player
I s isn't look to see what the error code was when it happened. I have tried the battery pull while plugged in and it still doesn't show when I plug my phone in. I'm starting to get worried the phone is shot but willing to do whatever I have to to get it back up and running again.

That's good that you can still get into download mode and means you will likely be able to fix it. I suspect that something happened with the computer when your attempt to ODIN flash failed...and even though you uninstalled/reinstalled the Samsung drivers , something is probably still messed up with the computer. If you have another computer available to try it on, you may give that a go.
Another solution might be to use the "System Restore" feature on the computer to restore to a previous point and see if that will fix things. If it does and ODIN can recognize the phone again, then you might try some of the tips that I've read on various posts....
Here's some of those tips for ODIN flashing:
-Always verify the md5 on your downloads to make sure they aren't corrupted. Here's a good program (WinMd5) for Windows to verify MD5's if needed. I noticed that the link for the stock 4.1.2 firmware on Droidstyle's guide doesn't have a md5. The md5 for stock 4.1.2 VRAMC3 firmware should be MD5: d04cc7e7717f60b06ce82ffdf85703cd. If that doesn't match with what you've got... then you may try to download the stock firmware again from this link (KIES_HOME_I605VRAMC3_I605VZWAMC3_1098177_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5 ) and then verify the md5 again.
-Verify the md5 on your pit file -- it should be a md5 of: 6e874ba443d59ea114e48c1a57f3dfaa
-Make sure that your phone has at least 50%+ charge on the battery
-Disable Firewall / Antivirus software on the computer before running ODIN
-Make sure you are running ODIN as Administrator
-Try a different USB port on the computer (I've read where you should use a USB 2.0 port, not 3.0-- and also using the port on the back of desktop PC's seems to be recommended/ or the one closest to the power source --you'll have to experiment).
-Try a different USB cable (preferably the cable that came with the phone if you have it and it is still in good shape).
I know this can get frustrating, but I'm hoping that as long as you can still get the phone into download mode, that you can restore it back to 4.1.2. Maybe others will also read this thread and chime in with some additional tips or ideas if none of this works. Doing some more searching in the XDA threads and Google will also probably give you some more ideas.
:fingers-crossed: Good luck.

If the phone boots into download mode, I wouldn't give up on it until trying everything. What have you tried other than the Windows system restore? Trying different USB ports/ different cables seem to be 2 of the most common fixes I've read about for this issue.
Does your computer indicate anything at all when you plug in the phone? (You can check to see if the computer shows if any devices are connected by looking in the computer's device manager when the phone is plugged in. This link should help you: ( http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/504/how-to-uninstall-hidden-devices-drivers-and-services/ ). You can try uninstalling any drivers that might be related to Samsung/Android. Then reboot the computer and try reinstalling the Samsung drivers again. Here are some links for the Samsung drivers if needed: Official Download link for Samsung Drivers - -- (or these... Alternate link for Samsung Drivers, which are what I've been using).
Hopefully, you can get the computer to recognize the device and then try ODIN again. Are you using ODIN 3.07 from this link? If not, that's the one that is suggested for our phones.
If the computer can recognize the phone, but ODIN isn't working, you might try to restore the device with Samsung Kies 2.6, which you can find here - http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/.
Verizon also has a Repair Assistant which might be worth a try. You can learn more about it here: http://www.verizonwireless.com/support/devices/knowledge_base.html/80201/.
I hope that I'm not overwhelming you with information... but I thought it would be good to point out that there may still be options to try before giving up.
I've got to take care of some errands and do yard work this afternoon, so I won't be available to check back for quite a while. There are TONS of people on XDA with much more knowledge than me... so I'm hoping that if you can't get it fixed with what I've provided, that some others will provide some suggestions.
okay so i have tried almost everything that has been suggested to get my computer to recognize my phone. i even plugged it in to another computer last night and even that computer did not do a thing once plugged. have tried different cables and different ports and so far nothing. very very frustrating i frickin love my gn2 and was hoping to get a few more months out of it until i could afford a note 4. thanks for all your help if you can think of anything else just let me know im willing to try anything to get it back up and running.

Hi bluedevils0000,
Unfortunately, without a that error report from ODIN, we're really just guessing on why the ODIN flash didn't work. Did that other computer that you tried have the Samsung Drivers installed on it... and were there any other mobile device drivers on it that might have caused conflicts? Do you also have Samsung Kies installed on your computer? .... if so, it might be causing conflicts.
Do you know what percentage your battery was at when you tried to restore with ODIN... and is it currently charged to at least to 50%? I've read a couple posts where the battery needs to be charged for the flash to work properly... so if your battery is old, I'm wondering if it's went bad and if charging it fully could make a difference.
If you haven't plugged the phone in to the computer yet and looked at the Windows Device manager to see if the phone is showing any sort of connection at all, then that would be my next step. Look to see if there are any yellow exclamation points on any of the devices--like the picture here:

Maybe try the battery pull trick as well when looking at device manager with the phone plugged in. There's an option in Device Manager to see hidden devices, so make sure to enable that. Let's hope that your computer will show something in Device Manger when you try these things. You can try uninstalling the Samsung Drivers again, then try manually uninstall the devices in Device Manager that look to be related to Android, adb, mass storage, portable devices, etc... and see if that makes any sort of difference. Unplug your phone and reboot the computer afterwards... then reinstall the Samsung drivers (the ones linked in my previous post). If you don't know how to manually uninstall devices, you can get this info through a Google search.
I'm running out of ideas... but I would say that as long as the phone goes into download mode and something hasn't happened that damaged your phones micro usb port, then there should still be hope to restore the device with ODIN, Samsung KIES, or Verizon's Repair Utility.
so once again i sat down last night and retried everything that i had been doing to get my computer to recognize my phone. i opened device manager and plugged my phone in and it shows absolutely nothing. even tried the battery pull while still plugged in and it still shows nothing. i had kies downloaded on my computer so i uninstalled it also unistalled all drivers again then restarted and reinstalled drivers still to no avail. im lost and running out of ideas.
If you went to Device Manager and chose to show hidden devices /rescanned for hardware changes, manually uninstalled devices in Device Manager that look to be related to Android, adb, mass storage, portable devices, etc..., rebooted the computer & reinstalled Samsung Drivers... If you have tried all these things, then I'm not sure why it won't show any sort of connection. It could be that your phone's micro usb port is bad.
Here's another web link that offers possible solutions to fix usb connection issues: ( http://www.wintips.org/how-to-fix-usb-device-not-recognized-not-installed/). Maybe one of these solutions will help.
Sorry.... but I'm out of ideas too and can't think of any other solutions if you can't get the phone to communicate with the computer.
Let's hope there are some other XDA members who can offer other ideas.
Did you delete the file that needs to be deleted in Device Manger? I ran into that before, I would run odin, then my phone would no longer be recognized until you deleted the correct file/port in Device Manager? I know it was mentioned above, just checking you deleted the correct port under device manager.

i have also noticed that when i plug the phone in to its stock charger i get the battery on the screen but it does not ever show the green portion at the bottom of the battery like it usually does when it is charging. it just shows the battery that normally shows up with the little circle in the middle and never goes any further. i attached a picture to show you exactly what it looks like when i plug it in to charge.

bluedevils0000,
Can you post the name of the file that you were ODIN flashing over to your phone when ODIN failed? That might help others help you.
The file I was attempting to flash was KIES_HOME_I605VRAMC3_I605VZWAMC3_1098177_REV04_use r_low_ship.tar.md5 it started fine and stopped half way through and would no longer do anything when I plugged my phone in to my computer.
That was definitely the correct file to flash to restore the phone to 4.1.2. I'm assuming you followed Section 1B of Droidstyle's GUIDE in development section and placed the file in the PDA slot in ODIN.
I wish I knew more ideas to try to help you to get the computer to recognize the phone again when you put it in download mode. It could be that your phone is having a hardware problem. I've provided all the links and ideas I can think of for now. You can bump this thread periodically to keep it alive to see if others will respond with additional ideas.
well thank you for all the time you have put in trying to help me resolve my problem. i truly do appreciate it and this right here is why i love the android community and could never stray from android. i will keep you updated but at this point i would have to agree that it is most likely a hardware issue. the phone wont charge and my computer wont recognize it so as much as it sucks now im stuck with a broken phone until the day comes when i can afford a note 4. once again thank you.
