[Q] Screen glitch after firmware update - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

No idea why this has happened but want to see whether anyone else experienced issues after updating firmware to OD1 and if there is a fix.
Seems the norification panel flashes when scrolling through and scrolling up and down through text is no longer smooth.

yeah my VZW S6 edge 128GB just started doing the exact same thing over the weekend. It's so frustrating! I would say it first started when all of "my" media sounds (for texts, email, ringtones, etc.) all of sudden stopped working and could not be detected by apps & the OS. Then, out of nowhere, the notification pane would flash when pulled down AND I was unable to use the power button to reset the device (when holding down the button, the power menu would appear & quickly disappear without giving me a chance to make a selection).
I took it back to the Verizon store and of course, all they want to do is a full factory reset. I haven't done it yet but when the guy force-restarted it (holding Vol Down, Home, & Power), the problem seemed to go away. I rooted the phone the next day, de-bloated more than a few apps & froze TouchWiz w/ TB but the notification pane flashing glitch & just overall sluggish system performance has since returned. Since no one anywhere seems to be reporting any such performance, I suspect a hardware issue so I will be making an exchange before my 14-day return period expires.
What have you done to fix your issue?

Possible Fix?
stumbled across a few threads in regards to various graphics issues: try rolling back your Android System WebView update in the Application Manager and then reboot your phone, it seems to have cleared up some of the performance problems for me...but only time will tell if this "fix" holds for the long-run

Yeah I couldn't fix it...I ended rolling back my firmware to the OC1 and starting again. But now my Music apps don't recognise music in the storage file (Walkman app). This phone seems to have the strangest glitches!

s6 glitching as well after recent update
After recent update my s6 *international version randomly starts scrolling through the open apps.
I have a video of it on youtube if anyone is interested. s6 glitch. I may decide to root it and see if it goes away with CWM.

G Tablet shuts down after going to sleep

Has anyone had any issue with the G Tablet shutting down after it goes to sleep? Right now I am running virtually stock (rooted with latest VS update). If I leave the tablet for 10 minutes the screen will shut off as expected, but when I try to wake it by hitting the power momentarily the tablet does nothing. If I press power for a few seconds the tablet boots up as it does from being completely shut down.
If I select sleep from the power off menu, I can wake it if I hit the power button or home button, but only if I do it within about 30 seconds. If I wait any longer, it seems to shutdown. I don't see any settings anywhere for this.
Other than this, everything else seems fine. About the only other thing I can think to mention is I did flash to tnt lite 2.02 and had to recover due to boot loops. I've reset, cleared data and cache, etc...
Thanks for any feedback.
Same happens to mine sometime. Currently running TNT 2.02
I've noticed this a few times also. I have no idea what's causing it. Fortunately, boot up is fast!
Same here
Not all the time, but close to half.
Plain vanilla not rooted.
mysterious fix
I had the similar problem where is shuts off half the time after pressing the sleep button. The symptom went away after installing the Miren browser. Can't explain it.
SH
This was happening to me and I tried many nvflashes and every rom so everything you can try. I exchanged mine today after a lot of research online and now for the first time it sleeps and wakes up. I am certain that there are just a few models that can not be fixed.
So happy to be able to hit the power button to have it wake up.
I recommend if you still can then exchange it for another.
My Malata Zpad does this sometimes too. I thought it was movement that did it, or the magnets on the case, but it looks to do it at random (or when something runs in the background?)
It used to do it 5-6 times a day, now that it's a week old it seems to do it maybe once or twice a day.
I am having the same problem. I do not remember this before the last update (3389).
The tablet is stock, not rooted.
I use the volume button to wake mine.
any one else having this problem? just got my g tablet today and it always shuts down when it goes to sleep
any way to fix it?
i was going to root it right away but hesitating now since it will void warranty - the shutdown after sleep is kinda annoying...thanks
Yeah I had similar issues under stock firmware but subsequent patches fixed the issue for me. Have yet tohave it happen on vegan or tnt lite roms.

i took the plunge and installed vegan last night - still have the problem (shut down after going to sleep) -
so any suggestions?

Did you wipe to factory reset before going to vegan? Mine was doing that, but I never did factory wipe for subsequent vegan updates. Since I have done the clean install, never had this problem.
There are also several kernel updates which allows VPN, cifs, ntfs and other enhancement as well as higher fps.
Love my tablet.
well i only have the tablet for a few hours - and that was a problem out of the box
before installing anything i did the "wipe user data" option from the settings menue in the original/stock TnT - then logged in using Family name - and shut down to root (install CM/vegan ect)
i just downloaded and installed this: "1.0.0 Beta5.1 Link" - thats posted on the first post on the vegan thread
so didn't install any kernal updates or anything yet...if you can point me towards them and what to install i would really appreciate it - thanks
also seem to have a problem where no matter where on the homescreen i swipe down it pulls down the notification bar - any way to fix that?
my solution
I had the same problem out of the box as well. I tried using the Vegan rom with the same result. I went ahead and downloaded a free app called hibernate from the market. It puts it to sleep and allows me to wake it up like how its suppose to. As of now, it has yet to shutdown when asleep.
My ghetto fix til someone can truly id the problem with a proper solution. Hope this helps...

If you are running ADW launcher it is a "gestures" setting that can be changed in the ADW specific settings.
The ntofication bar problem was caused by adw ex launcher
Still having problems with the sleep mode thing, tried all thedelete user data and cashed deleting still no luck
Other then that I really love this tablet. So should I return it?

Mine too
I'm having this same problem....I find it hard to believe this is a "hardware" issue although I guess its possible. I'm running Vegan 5.1beta but it did it with the stock 3389 firmware too before I upgraded.
This issue is the only fatal flaw thus far I've run into, I'd love to get it resolved.

This is a "bump".
I just wanted to know if the folks with the original issue on this thread (gTab shutting down after sleep) tried my suggestion and if so did it fix the issue for them?

[Q] Galaxy S3 lockscreen hang and also unresponsive blackscreen

Hey guys,
I know there has been a couple of posts like this that I have found through searching but none have actually found a solution, so instead of resurrecting a old thread I thought I would start a new one.
Basically I am having some issues with my new pebble blue (yey) S3 . I have found that sometimes when the phone is sleeping when I press the power button to bring it out of sleep the lock screen begins to hang. This is followed by a number of different things, the screen either glitches for a bit and then begins to work or it stays locked and needs a battery pull. As well as this I've found that randomly either when charging or not and the phone is sleeping it simply becomes unresponsive, staying on a black screen and needing a battery pull to fix (this has only occured a few times, the hanging lock screen occurs quite often).
I have done some searching and found little in the way of a solution or what the problem is, however I have found that when the lock screen hangs -if it begins to work again after glitching out the 'WIFI connected to ****' appears at the bottom of the screen. Anyway if anyone has any ideas or also recieves this problem I would really appreciate some help as it's driving me crazy and I'm unsure if it is a common S3 bug or a faulty handset, in which case I have limited time to RMA.
Cheers in advance
Hmm, sounds like a faulty phone to me. Try taking it back to get it exchanged for onother one. S3 was built to fly not crawl.
You'll want to go through a process of elimination to figure out when might be causing it.
Something you can try and test with (one at a time)
-turn on airplane mode
-turn off live wallpaper
-shut down all running tasks
-change your lock screen security method
-limit the number of widgets running on all the screens
-reduce the number of active screens
Probably other things you can try to pull out of the equation, but thats a good start
After looking up dial-a-phones returns policy it would seem that I have 28 days to return if the handset is faulty, so this atleast gives me some breathing room to try out any suggestions for fixes. I will begin to eliminate each of the suggested items above however as the lock screen problem is intermittent it make take a day so actually see if it has had an effect, which is annoying at the least.
On another note a numberupted of people are stating high battery life on their devices however mine doesn't seem to be as good and I do have power saving on as well as nfc etc. turned off. This makes me believe my handset could have a fault, but tbf I haven't allowed for a discharge to 5% and the recharging to 100% which I heare allows for optimisation of the battery.
EDIT**** I have changed the lock screen previously and found it had no effect on the problem and I do not have a live wallpaper in use.
Phone Freezing after reboot and auto wifi signal found on.
Same here, been happening the last few days after I installed Avast. Also, turning off and on the auto on wifi seemed to replicate the problem.
The phone will boot to the lock screen and freeze a bit, and sometimes the news ticker freezes, and then after unlocked, I try to turn off wifi signal has been found on the notification dropdown and then tries to auto connect to wifi, the phone will freeze up if I dont turn it off in time.
Once the auto wifi connect is off and reboots, then the phone will keep glitching up until it catches up processing alot of processes it was trying to do for about 1/2 hr. Also, if phone freezes up for too long, like after trying too many time of unlocking the screen while freezing up, the phone gets stuck at the lock screen and the phone almost overheated, in an area right below the battery. I had to pull the battery out to cool it off.
It seems to be a glitch in the auto wifi, especially if alot of resources are being used. Once Avast was on my phone about 1.5GB RAM is being used sometimes and since has really slowed the phone down. Going uninstall alot of apps.

Same problem.
No problem if Wifi is switched off prior to sleep.
No problem if Wifi connection is still available.
Problem to lockscreen if Wifi connection is broken (move away from connected router).
Any suggestion?

Exactly the same here. Driving me crazy. I did root the phone using the Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit. I don't know if the problem also exists on non rooted devices.
S3 black screen after unlocking
Has there anyone experience S3's screen went on black? I have pebble blue S3 - GT-I9300. Cases when unlocking, answering an incoming call or attempting to turn off an
alarm? Mine happens when after unlocking the screen then it goes black and screen becomes unresponsive. It happens intermittently and even after 3 times of
reprogramming. I am now going to have it replaced. I am having a lot of troubles -- it exits on its own when im reading or composing an SMS; files were deleted after
restarting the unit, and an app opens up even not touching the scree. This is expensive and I am paying a lot just to experience this king of inconvenience.

I also rooted my S3 a few days ago (with the S3 toolkit), and have had lots of problems with unresponsive lockscreens (I use PIN, because of exchange connection). It takes a few seconds or maybe up to as long a minute before I'm able to punch in the PIN-numbers. Before this the screen lights up but does not respond to input.
But the WiFi-connection issue might be what is the triggering factor, because after a boot it wotks just fine for several hours, if I'm not moving out of my current WiFi zone. First I thought it was either Secure Settings or Tasker that made my device lock up in this matter, but now as they are both uninstalled, the problem still occurs.
Are you running some kind of custom rom, or just the latest stock ROM, but rooted?

Just the latest stock ROM but rooted. I've found out that turning off the wifi power safe mode fixes the problem for me. To do this:
- In the dailer enter *#0011#
- Press the menu key
- Select wifi
- Press the on/off button.
The wifi power safe mode will however be turned on during boot. So rebooting will set it back on.
*#0011# seems does the trick. But is annoying had to do this every time after power off (change battery, change Sim, flying).... Anyway to keep the setting?
I am also on stock Rom and rooted. Interested to know any non-rooted phone got this problem?
BTW. I found a quick (at least quicker than pull the battery) way to get out of the forzen lock screen (sometimes forgot to do the 0011 trick): press the power button (screen will Dim instead of OFF), then hold the home button for few seconds, as soon as you see the "menu" and "back" button lit up, the lock is un-freeze...
A permanent solution is appreciated for such an advance phone....

Not that I know of.
Problem solved. For me anyway. Hope works for all of you having the same trouble.
My trouble begin with recent upgrade to LH3. My S3 was rooted by S3 toolkit v2.0. CWM installed was v4 something.
I un-rooted the phone. Uninstalled S3 toolkit v2.0. Re-installed the S3 Toolkit v5.0. Rooted the phone again (CWM become v6....).
I do not know it was CWM version caused the trouble or not. But my S3 is ok now.
I got it on my non-rooted phone, any additional solutions/suggestions? or service?
I found solution for problem . And my phone is working well. I downloaded rom file android 4.1.2 and flash my phone
JB 4.1.1 caused these WiFi issues on my phone

Exact opposite for me...never had the problem then since loading stock JB 4.1.1 with root I get lockups or freezes whenever WiFi is turned off or I leave my router's range. As soon as I disconnect from WiFi the whole phone freezes.
The *#0010# also locks up the phone when I turn off the WiFi power saving feature.
None of this happened before JB...and I replaced my phone with week via warranty due to this and the new phone does the exact same thing as soon as I upgraded to JB with root.
Any ideas?
Black screen / random reboot solution
Hi All,
I've had the black screen / random reboot issue for a few days. The only way to restore functionality on black screen lockup was to remove the battery.
I tried changing to Chrome browser and stopping the stock browser as suggested in some threads but it kept crashing.
I searched everywhere and most threads suggest a dodgy motherboard.
For me the issue was related to either a single PDF download via the stock browser or the fact I had quite alot of saved PDF files on my phone (S3 Stock firmware I9300XXELLA)
After deleting all the files listed in Internet downloads (look for Downloads with a green arrow Icon in apps) my trusty S3 has returned to normal. No black screen lockups, no hanging, runs like a dream!
I appreciate this may not solve everyones black sceeen issues but I haven't found any other thread with this solution. Hope it works for you.
Thanks,
Giz.

Was this happening on JB for you? You mention stock firmware (not familiar with I9300)...so I am guessing it was ICS.
For me the issues are with JB and I had no files at all in the Downloads folder after a certain point when I wiped / formatted the SDCard...so I do not think my lockups were related to PDFs. But I did (and still do) have a ton of music and a lot of movies on the External MicroSD Card....and quite a few custom notification and ringtone MP3s on the Internal SDCard. Next time I load JB I will run it a few days with none of this media loaded....

This is on JB 4.1.2, Phone had been updated to 4.1.2 for about a month. The issues started after a pdf download. Once all pdf's were deleted the handset works perfectly.

Omega v12 (23/09/2013): System UI crashed i9505

So I have been using Omega v12 (23/09/2013) on my Galaxy S4 i9505 for a week or so absolutely no problems what so ever.
Then last night my phone just ran out of battery and safely shut down when I plugged it in and turned it on everything seemed fine until it got to the lock screen it was quite unresponsive and once i unlocked it the screen was black but showing the notification bar and it keeps bringing up a dialog box saying gmail has stopped working which once you press it it reboots. one time it said system UI has stopped working.
I can pull down the notification bar but i cannot do anything in there if you try to get to settings or for example turn bluetooth off it reboots. i was able to get the multitask menu up once where i could access google search and it allowed me to browse the web it even opened chrome but as soon as i closed it it rebooted again.
I really dont want to wipe data, keep that as my last option.
I have not seen anyone else with a similar problem i have seen a few people have 'system ui' crashes but they seem unrelated.
They were talking about installing something called '3Minit Framework'. I have no idea about this or what it does and i don't know how i would get it onto my phone, I have not tried to see if i can plug it into the computer and copy data i might try that when i get home from work...
On a different thread it was suggested to just reinstall from zip without wiping data. It didn't work.
I would like to maybe try flashing a different kernel but I don't know if right at this stage its safe to do so or even if it will make any difference?
If yes, what kernel would you guys suggest???
Any assistance would be much appreciated!

Samsung Galaxy S4 Problem

Hi
I have an unlocked samsung galaxy s4 gt-i19505
Recently after i updated to 4.4.2 kitkat i started having problems. After the phone is not being used for a while, when i press the unlock button the unlock screen appears but the circle with the lock inside it is missing and the phone appears to loose touch i can't unlock the phone or pull down the notification panel. When i press the lock button again the screen goes black and the phone just freezes completely. It doesn't react to the unlock button any more or to the home screen button. I have to take out the battery and then everything is normal again until the phone is left unused for a while again.
I tried reinstalling the firmware again but it didn't help. I didn't factory reset the phone as I don't want to be setting it up again as it takes me a while. Does anyone have similar problems knows how to fix it ?
Thanks.

It sucks to reset, but you gotta do what you gotta do. That is often the first step of troubleshooting as it eliminates lots of other possibilities all at once. Especially if you updated to 4.3 to 4.4.2 without wiping. I know Samsung says it's cool and give OTA updates and all that, but I've worked on dozens and dozens of Samsung devices and they always seem to run best if you factory reset after updating (or downgrading). There are tons of apps that can back up your call logs, texts, apps, contacts, etc that you can use to restore afterwards. Then you just gotta log back into your accounts and set up your home screen. It's annoying, but will probably be quicker than trying to troubleshoot one little thing after another. Just the nature of the beast with stuff like this. It's not Samsung's fault per se, just how software is. It seems to run differently on different phones without much rhyme or reason.

Hey i reseted my phone and the problem seemed to be fixed but it happened again. Do you know what can I do to fix it ?

Recent apps button thinks I'm pressing it after recent update- Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S5

Recent apps button thinks I'm pressing it after recent update- Galaxy S6 & Galaxy S5
I have a Galaxy S5 that's getting pretty old. About a week ago, immediately after a system update, my phone started acting strange. It was as if I was pressing and sometimes holding the recent apps button. Constantly. I could sit the phone down and watch it go to town showing the recent apps, then closing it, then showing them again. It made it almost impossible to use the phone. I'd try to type a text message or URL and I'd get one or two letters typed before it would do it again. It was maddening.
After a lot of research and seeing that other people had similar problems, I was able to find an app called "All in One Gestures" and set the recent apps button to not react when it's long pressed. That seemed to work, although it's a bit of a temporary solution as the problem continues when I turn my phone on before the app loads.
Anyway, I chalked this up to having an old phone and was looking forward to getting an S8 soon anyway.
But here's the odd thing.. last night, my mother called me about her Galaxy S6. She had downloaded a system update. Her phone says "Software updated to G920VVRS4DQD1" Android 7.0 Nougat. Anyway, immediately after the update she said her phone started acting strange. She said the power button was controlling the volume and the volume button was controlling the power, and that she couldn't type anything because menus kept popping up. So sure enough, I came to her house today and realized the exact same problem is happening to her phone as was mine. I wasn't able to duplicate the power/volume button problem she mentioned, but I realized the recent apps button is continually thinking it's being pressed. So after starting in safe mode and making sure she hadn't downloaded any new apps recently, I installed the All in One Gestures and it fixed the problem, mostly, (for now) on her phone.
My questions are... is this a known problem with this update? And does anyone know how to permanently fix it?
We have different phones, different carriers (Sprint for me, Verizon for her) and don't live in the same home. It seems too coincidental for it to happen to both of our phones so close together. When I googled "G920VVRS4DQD1" it appears that's a firmware update exclusive to Verizon.
Short of rooting or flashing the phones (my fiance could probably do that for us), does anyone know how to permanently fix this?
We could try a factory reset, but I'm worried it would force me to download the update again and we'd be back at square one.
Sorry for the long post, just wanted to be thorough. Any insight would be appreciated.
