For T-Mobile users, anyhow.... Found this link elsewhere on XDA, and figured it was worth a repost.... Would put it in the thread, but that 10-post rule keeps me from doing so....
Turns out it is an APN issue preventing the use of MMS reliably.
To start, I couldn't MMS over either data OR wifi, when running Speed Rom 6.5 or 6.0.
Other folks in the Speed ROM DEV thread have the same problem, and there has been much change-ing of MMS apps and so on to try and fix it.
Well... I tried all that, and it didn't work... But this does.
It's based on this article from TMO, but updated for our phones...
1) Delete all APNs other than T-Mobile Data
2) Use the following settings for T-Mobile Data (Case Sensitive)
Name: T-Mobile Data (or T-Mobile US)
APN: epc.tmobile.com
Proxy: <Not set>
Port: <Not set>
Username: None
Password: <Not set>
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
MMS proxy: <Not set>
MMS port: <Not set>
MCC: 310
MNC: 260
Authentication type: <Not set>
APN type: default,supl,admin,dun,mms,hipri

Note: For the Username, enter "None" with the keypad. Do not leave it not set.
If your phone or ROM has a field not in the above list, leave it at the default setting.
CM10 Note: Astrisks (eg, *) are not the same as 'Not Set'. The phone will say 'Not Set' if you have it right.
3) Save the APN
Following these instructions WORKS to allow me to MMS *OVER WIFI CALLING AND DATA* for roms that have WFC, when all of the other fixes involving different MMS apps FAILED. Even works on STOCK.
If you want MMS over WiFi Calling you MUST use a SENSE rom with the SENSE WiFi calling App.
The AOSP-wifi-calling-on-CM10 'nut' has not been cracked yet, and CM9 has not been updated with the fixes from CM10.

Essentially, you have to merge the APNs, following the steps below, and your MMS will work as it should. It's an issue that impacts the stock Sense ROM as well - which is why phones that shipped configured for a separate MMS APN (as mine did) may have issues with MMS-over-wifi on stock firmware too...

There is one thing I did differently - instead of re-writing the 'APN type' line to exactly quote the line in the TMO article, I simply added the comma-delimited items that were not there, while leaving the ones that are on my Amaze but not shown in place...
Eg, I added:
,mms,dun
to the end of the list, rather than removing anything from the list that wasn't in TMO's article... And it works...

Very interesting, I'm working right now or else I'd test and confirm it myself. I've always been under the assumption that mms over WiFi was not possible on our Amaze.
Can anyone else confirm this to work? I'm in a WiFi available environment all day so this would be pretty convenient for me.
Also op... Has this fix caused any other issues? Lol seems like with HTC, when you fix one thing - it breaks something else

No other issues.
I am able to use both the Sense MMS app recommended in the Dev thread for Speed Rom as a 'fix' (which did NOT work for me), and the ICS/AOSP one.
ETA: Testing further... Having some issues with AOSP MMS app when the Sense one has been deleted...
It just plain works.
I live in a completely DEAD zone for ALL carriers, so WiFi calling is a must-have.
By using these instructions (only one APN for all services, configured as per that article with the change I noted) I went from being UNABLE to MMS *AT ALL* (either sending OR recieving, on WiFi, HSPA(+), *or* 2G/EDGE), to having full MMS capability on any app, regardless of what network tech I was using.
It works both out on the data network AND at my house where WiFi calling is the only way to get service.
HTC Amaze, Speed Rom 6.5, T-Mobile USA
Wow... That sounds pretty awesome and important to MOST of us amazers.
I will get to try this after work and update later tonight.
Thanks in advance man!!

Further testing...
Last night, after getting this working, I was kind of excited to have it & thought the stock app should have full capabilities alone...
So I deleted the IcedBullet Mms.apk (3.xMB Sense version) and put the ICS one on alone...
This killed my MMS-over-WiFi and the ICS app (from a Nexus system dump) couldn't send MMS but could recieve them...
So I'm going back through and identifying WHAT EXACTLY is required for MMS over WiFi, and in more detail what works...
It seems that Mms.apk has TWO pieces of software inside it - the MMS 'service' that allows 3rd-party MMS clients to send/recieve MMS... And the MMS 'client' (Sense or AOSP)....
With the IcedBullet Mms.apk AND the TMO-recommended APN changes, MMS works over wifi calling and data, with any client app (eg, you can run the AOSP app alongside the Sense one and it will work, Handicent will work, etc...)
Without the IcedBullet (Sense) Mms.apk (e.g. with Mms.apk from the Nexus installed as the primary MMS app), MMS only works over data, and very slowly/poorly...
SO: To make this work, you need:
1) Sense MMS.apk, installed as 'Mms.apk' in your /system/app folder. I am using the 'IcedBullet' version recommended in the Speed Rom DEV thread.
2) You need your APN settings configured as described at the top of this thread, including deleting ALL other APNs other than T Mobile Data
3) Modifications to the above pairing result in partial or complete loss of MMS.
4) The WiFi calling MMS issue on 'stock sense' (and thus all Sense ROMs) is due to phones being shipped with the wrong APN configuration - specifically 2 or 3 APNs rather than one single one.
5) Presumably, the AOSP Mms.apk service process does not support WiFi calling because they are not designed for phones shipped with it. Remember: the Galaxy Nexus did not have WFC in 'stock' - even though IIRC CM9 has 'created' it for this phone. Thus running Mms.apk from an AOSP or Nexus phone produces the Only-Over-Data issue...
I tried this fix and it didn't work for me, but mms is working fine for me on fourth bar even with the tmobile mms APN still in place.

For whatever reason, 3rd-party MMS apps are only working for me in data-mode now. Perhaps I made a mistake in my original testing, and thought I had confirmed them on WiFi but they were really going over cell.
The 'sense' app I got from the SpeedRom 6.5 thread, however still does work for me in both Wifi and Data - this is the one I tested and confirmed at my house (which has no cell service at all) when I originally posted this.
I'm attaching the APK that DOES work in both modes...
This has only been tested on SpeedRom 6.5. My phone was previously on stock-HTC ICS. I have not tried to use GO SMS, or any of the clients besides the Stock ICS one, the Sense one attached here, and Handicent.
In my installation, Mms_Sense.apk is renamed Mms.apk and put in /system/app - NOT installed as an app.
The Mms_1_.apk that comes with SpeedRom is removed (note: For other roms, if you're trying to get this working, you probably want to remove the ROM's MMS apk - whatever it is - from /system/app).
And the APN settings are done as per the article.
I can MMS myself, MMS others, and recieve MMS over wifi and data.
I can confirm I am able to receive and send mms over wifi calling after adding the lines into the apn menu. I am only able to do this with the mms.apk from sense as handsent doesn't work. 2 thumbs up on this.

Weather apk
Is there a way to get the weather app working on v7?
Or is there another app I could use for clock/weather app?
Some app I found on the market, only works for one location.
I'm running into another issue, but with sending MMS messages that are empty.
It happened to me on the Version 7.5 and also on the CapcomCE ROM I'm using at the moment.
I can receive MMS messages. But when I send MMS, they send empty messages.
Turns out that I have to use ROOT EXPLORER from the Appstore for the messages to work. The MMS.apk I'm using is the AOSP one that came with the CapcomCE ROM. I opted for this instead of the Sense-MMS when I first installed CapcopCE (it has Aroma option to keep/remove sense and install AOSP version of apps).
Its annoying and frankly it used to work. Was able to send MMS from Sense Gallery App. Now I have to navigate with Root Explorer.
Anyone ever tested this?

Google Now! does weather by default - not the HTC 'weather clock', but it's 1 tap away...
I use the ICS-stock clock widget (under widgets, does the dots-in-a-circle analog clock)

Due to the fact that I'm WiFi-dependent most of the time, and the wifi-calling functionality for MMS is apparently hardcoded into the sense app, I'm kind of stuck on it...
I can confirm that 3rd-party apps still work (including AOSP-style ones from the Market) alongside it - but if you want to MMS while on Wifi you need to use the Sense app.
I have no experience with other roms besides CM9 and Eclipze's SpeedRom

I have no experience with 7.5 - I went 7.0 to 7.6, but might be stepping back to 7.5 due to some issues...
I'll post a zip later on....
Here are the files from SpeedRom 7, to allow MMS over WiFi on SpeedRom 7.6 (and prob 7.5)....
So far they also seem to be averting the Phone.apk force-close I've experienced on 7.6.
I am still testing APNs and such to get a reliable MMS-over-WiFi solution for these versions, but I did have it working as of the last time I tried it...

I sim unlocked my htc m8 and am now using a tmobile sim card. 4G network, calls, sms everything works just fine. However, i am not able to send/receive mms. I called t-mobile for help, and they told me to change my apn setting, which i did. And that only fixed my problem with 4g data(i initially had problem with both 4g data and mms) No matter what i try for apn setting, MMS won't send.
My current apn setting is: apn:fast.t-mobile.com
mmsc: mms,msg,eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
mms protocal: wap2.0
mcc:310
ncm:260
apn type: default,supl,admin,dun,mms
everything else is not set. I really don't understand why would mms not work if both 4g data and individual sms works.
Anyone have an idea?

I have had the same issue. 4gLTE works just fine. I have ATT visual voicemail working. I just cant seem to get over the MMS issue.
I switched the hangouts today and that works just fine for sending and recieving MMS. What's weird is it also records what is being sent and recived into my HTC Messages app as well. However, when I disable hangouts and try to send MMS direct from HTC messages, no luck?

For AT&T HTC M8 Unlocked "T-Mobile User's" Only!
For those that might not have figured it out yet: Backup your current telephony.db file and Replace it.. Unzip and Copy the file attached to: data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases with ES File Manager (Any Root Browser Should Work) then Reboot and wait till you get Data, make sure you can browse the interweb and test sending a photo to yourself!
This was achieved on my Stock Rooted AT&T Unlocked HTC M8 on T-Mobile!

Try installing SQLite Editor, Navigate and find that same file in the directory I lead you to in my first post, click on the file, there you should see a bunch of APNs/Setting.. Delete them All! They might have to be deleted one by one.. Go back into your APN Settings on your phone and add the T-Mobile APNs and you should be good to go after a reboot! I don't have the M8 anymore but, I'll try helping as much as possible!

Are you rooted? Because you need to be to view or modify those files.
Also, in ES File Manager settings, you need to toggle "Root Explorer" to ON. Although, even with it OFF I believe you should still be able to view the files (just can't modify them). So I think your main problem is no root.
Well, I finally fixed my problem with not being able to send or receive MMS.
I have a AT&T M8 that recently switched over to T-Mobile. I decided to root, s-off, and changed over the developer edition ROM. I was even able to get OTA update after it was done.
I am ecstatic and exhausted after the process but seeing that I was able to get ride of that annoy AT&T boot up music was all worth it. :good::victory:
Now my follow up question is this. I now have a rooted phone with S-off. Should I worry more about security in the future? I typically only download from the Play store but I believe that there are a lot of junk out there as well. Should I lock my bootloader since I won't be doing anything like this the future?
All feedbacks are appreciated.
Please check your inbox. Thanks.

Hi,

Ive pondered de branding my phone and loading a WWE version on the cell, but I dont entirely know what I'm doing with that. Would you mind providing some direction, even if pointing me to relevant online posts that you used to learn how to do it correctly?
Appreciate any support.

That person stated how they solved it. He flashed the Dev Ed ROM, which I believe natively supports both the AT&T and T-Mobile network. But this won't help you (Rogers).
Did you try the proper Rogers APN and still having MMS issues?

Thanks for the response. I have tried all the rogers apn settings, had a friend with an actual rogers m8 screen shot the settings with no success. Attempted adding mms specific apn settings as recommended by tier 2 rogers support. Again, no luck.
At this point I believe my only options are to try CM or see if there is a ruu toolkit that will work for rogers. To be honest, aside from one click root, im out of my depth.

I'd still keep trying with the APNs. Make sure with the carrier which APN is associated with your account, as there may be several. AT&T for instance has some 3 or 4 different APNs.
Rogers doesn't have any RUUs for this phone, as far as I am aware I don't see how CM will help, unless the ROM specifically supports Rogers and will have the proper Rogers APN pre-configured (or other things like build.prop). You may have better luck trying to find the stock Rogers ROM, or have another member here upload it for you.

I was able to send sms photos before and received them. But something happen recently and now it doesn't work. I went to the APN link and input the settings. But it won't save. I click the save button and go back. The new APN isn't listed there. Any idea? Can you add one to your Hauwei?
Update: It seems like everytime I want to add a new APN profile. I must first restart the phone before it will save it. Still can't send or receive photo messages at this moment.
Super edit: It was adblock on my phone that caused this issue. I guess, because it didn't happen right away. I didn't think there was a connection between Adblock and MMS not installing correctly. Thanks for the help.

I had TMobile on my Z3c for a little bit. There was a setting that I had to change from the reccomended APN settings to get MMS to work. I want to say the IPv4 had to be selected and not both or 6 under APN protocol.
I'm having this exact same issue but with AT&T. My APN settings appear to be perfect but I can't send or receive picture messages on my wife's phone. I've tried it on LTE and on WiFi. I also tried different messaging apps too.

My settings are already ipv4 for both. I tried toggling it to 4 and 6 and no change.
Same problem with t Mobile here. I called t Mobile to ensure all my settings were right. The t Mobile support then called Sony! Allegedly Sony knows it's a problem and we're stuck waiting for an update to fix it
What country are you guys in? I'm on T-Mobile USA, my APN protocol is IPv6, and MMS is working fine on my E5823.
Got my Z5c up and running. AT&T downloaded APN is completely different for this phone over the Z3c! Not really sure what T-mobile should use based off of how different the settings are.

My mms is working but severely delayed. I'm not receiving mms when they are sent. I am sitting next to someone and just got an mms from them that they said they sent 3 hours ago. It seems the quality of all my mms are poor also and grainy both sent and received. All my apn settings seem to be in order. And I'm T-Mobile USA
My stock messaging app still doesn't work on Tmobile USA. I've been using Textra and it works but don't get emoji from my wife's iphone through either app.

Wow? I'm on T-Mobile usa too and it's not working. Are you using the stock software? Would you mind screen shooting the rest of your APN or just typing in what your using so I can try and replicate please?
In the end, I had to call ATT to get mine working. We reviewed my APN settings (which were all correct) and then she tried "pushing an update" to the phone and it magically worked. I think they had something blocked on their side.

Sure - attached are 3 screenshots of my APN settings. Also, not sure if it makes a difference, but I am using Textra. They have a free version available so you can give it a shot.
SOLVED MMS issues on T-Mobile!! still using default messaging app
If anyone is still having trouble with the mms on T-mobile using a Sony Xperia Z5 let me know, I think I found the solution. Its working fine with my phone and before I couldn't send mms for nothing in the world even after calling T-mobile and asking them to restart my sms/mms.

What is the solution? I'm having the same issue and I'd like to keep using the stock messaging app.
Thanks!
Hello all,
As the title says, I've tried Textra, chomp, and Yaata on Verizon. The only one that works is the stock android messages app. I can't add a custom apn setting, because the only option I get is "restore default apn settings". I also can't edit the default apn settings as doing so causes it to delete itself. Does anyone have this problem or a solution to it? I really prefer chomp or textra over the stock app.
Thanks
p.s. I can send send pictures with no problems at all.
LG V30 US998
I found another customizable messaging app called Pulse that also works in case anyone else runs into this issue.

Hi Shoey,
I've given Pulse almost 3 months of trial use now on my V30, and I can HAPPILY report that since switching over to it I've not had even ONE issue that I'd noticed so far vs. other apps. As long as I keep my V30 I plan on keeping Pulse as well. So thank you so much for suggesting it!! :victory::good:

Shoey,
About a month ago I decided to switch to the Android Messages (formerly Google Messages) app as I preferred the look of it more. So far I've had NO issues with it, and they even too (like Pulse) just started offering a desktop messaging option as well, which I use daily and love! Very easy to set up. Just make sure to have the app fully installed on your phone first before setting up the desktop option.
I've been using Google messages for a while too. I only wish it had a dark theme, but other than that it just works.

Ahh ok. Yeah I agree, that would be a nice option to have. Though the regular/white mode doesn't bother me as much as it normally would in like other texting apps for some reason.
You try out the desktop messaging option yet? If so, what do you think of it? They just sent an update for it this morning too. I really like it.
I haven't tried the desktop app yet. I didn't even know it exists. I'll give it a try. Thanks!

Yeah just use the link in my post above. Very easy to set up. It's so much nicer texting from my desktop PC than my phone. lol

Yeah, Google Hangouts has long had that capability to send/receive texts via PC. It's much nicer typing on REAL keyboard.

Sorry, didn't see the quote... no idea when that update will come out. Watch Android Police, they usually have tipoffs to that kind of thing pretty quickly.

I was using Pulse for a while and it worked just fine, but then I recently changed to Android Messages and love it too. Looks are a bit nicer, and it too has the Desktop texting option as well, which I use frequently. Couldn't recommend it more! No issues at all as of yet (about 2 mos now).
It also got dark mode yesterday!!! And then it got killed.

I'm having the same problem with no being able to edit APN settings, which is the root of the problem I believe. I'm on US998 running 20d with Magisk on Verizon, and despite trying Android Messages, Signal, and QKSMS, I cannot reply to group MMS chats. I can receive and send single-person SMS and receive MMS group chats, just can't reply. When I check the default APN settings from Verizon, MMSC is not set (should be http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms), MMS port is not set (should be 80), the MCC is set to 311 and should be 310, MNC is set to 480 and should be 012, and APN type is "default" and should be "internet+mms".
I thought VZW may have made some recent changes and that most people would have gotten it pushed to their Verizon official phones automatically, but I see youtube videos from 2013 showing the above "should be" settings. I'm wanting to start a bounty for someone to make a Magisk module to overwrite this carrier APN settings lockout BS that started with Android 8, which is when I think I started getting this MMS reply problem.
I tried this (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75157321&postcount=14) and it let me add the APN, but as soon as I put the SIM card back in and booted back up, it was gone.
Side note: I hate that I have to keep my old Verizon LG G3 around if I want a VZW store to cut me a new SIM card. My current SIM is a year old, so I doubt getting a new one will get me the correct APN settings.

Sounds to me like you need to contact Verizon and ask them to give you the most up-to-date APN settings to put in your phone. I suggest calling from a different phone to make it easier to follow their instructions, and when you finish, do a reboot of your V30 before testing it out.
Or you could just check this webpage out. lol It's from June 2018, so I'd say it's very recent. Remember to reboot after SAVING the settings you input. Then test it out with a friend or relative.
I have T-Mobile, and I found my APN settings online. But customer service has them too.
Good luck!

Try flashing the latest stock Verizon ROM from @westwood24 in TWRP. You'll have to reflash Magisk before rebooting.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/rom-lg-vs996-20d-rom-t3830564
This should give you Verizon messaging.

I had problems with MMS as well that started after the 17.0 magisk bomb. It worked fine for the entire month of August after installing the VS996 20d, then after trying and failing to upgrade Magisk (no bootloop, just fail), I was no longer able to send or receive MMS messages.

Yeah. Unfortunately, the stock Verizon ROM doesn't seem to allow changing the default APN settings. There's no plus sign...only the option to RESTORE DEFAULT SETTINGS. Choosing that worked for me, but only temporarily.

Even after flashing Westwood's 20d verizon, the default APN seems to have incorrect settings sticking somewhere. I KDZ'd multiple times and it continually wouldn't keep the correct APNs. I half wonder if updating the modem might do it, but I haven't tried yet.
Regardless, there's an option in Textra that allows you to set the APN for it.
In Textra:
Choose SETTINGS from the 3-dot menu.
Click on MMS.
Change MMS Behavior to LEGACY
Slide the option ON to MANUALLY CONFIGURE APN
Click on MMSC
Enter:
http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
Try it and hopefully you're good to go after that! (I hope)

Hmm ok. I don't really know much about Verizon. I had them for 7 years then I switched to T-Mobile 4 years ago. Back during the Verizon days I didn't even know what an APN setting was. lol
Yeah try the Textra thing. That might actually work!
Good luck.
