[Q] Reading several posts about lollipop I need some guidance please - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have been reading posts after posts, the more I read about them, the more confused I got, so I will ask if someone could help me with this. I have SCH-I545, 4.4.2 I545VRVFNK1. I have lot of customization on my phone I would like to keep root when I upgrade to Lollipop and not to lose any of my apps or customization. I read that if you do not do some "magic" before the lollipop, you are out of luck. I believe there are two major posts about upgrade without losing root, not sure if these are old posts, if they still work and etc. I'm also so confused about all these terminologies, like towelroot, Odin and others. The authors or individual normally give a quick description of the tool but nothing in details on what they do and why we do it without reading posts after posts.
Thank you to everyone that makes all this happens, without you guys there will be no fun. I sincerely appreciated any help.

That just worked for me. I had no problem doing a clean install, but it sounds like you want to keep your settings. Perhaps look around that thread and you'll find your answers.

I used the same method and it's been rock solid.
I doubt you could keep the customizations, like xposed frame work is still not supported in OC1.
I would back up sms and move on to doing a fresh install.

I appreciated your responses, thank you.

Hey guys! I got my atrix 4g around the end of may and i haven't regretted switching from iphone since! . But i don't know alot about android hacking, modding, tips, tricks, features, etc, so as you can see i need help. I was wondering if some of the AMAZING people on the android forum could maybe take me in as an "Apprentice" so that i could learn all the hacking and tricks about atrix or android in general , like i knew when i had an iphone?

.
How did you learn when you had your iPhone? In most cases most people will search and read this forum time after time and then they fig, it out. So my advice is to read and search before you want to start asking questions im sure somewhere on this thread there is the anwser you are looking for. If you cant find what your looking then you need to find someone in the dev. forum and be nice and they might will help you. There is alot of really good devs out there that are willing to help you. I am a noob too that came from iphone

Yup, read a lot, search a lot, and you will have to try a lot. If you follow instructions, most of the time everything will go fine, but if it doesn't, you also need to look for the answers you will need to get back on track. You will get frustrated a lot, but the best way to learn anything is to try things yourself, and learn by your mistakes.
There are plenty of resources outside of XDA to learn about Android. There are some very good guides in the Atrix forums here also which will help you. Don't expect the devs to teach you programming. You will have to learn that yourself, but the devs will help you when you get stuck...........if, as was said, you treat them nicely!
Remember to post in the correct forums also. You will bring down the fires of hell on you if you post questions in the dev forum, themes in the general forum, etc.
lol thank you both, if its not too much can i run a scenario by you?
you may well know that gingerbread is comming to atrix [:{D>]
and i saw on the forum a build for 2.3.4 through hwk
Sooo many questions popped up in my head
1.what is hwk?
2.how would i return to 1.8.3 stock
3. what is flashing?
4.what is sbf?
and etc
do you know any threads or people who could help me?
also do you have any hacks on your atrix?

1) HKTW is a Chinese version of ginergbread more or less (i.e. Hong Kong Tai Wan), that happens to be usable on a U.S. AT&T Atrix w/ a unlocked boot loader. It's pretty buggy, since it wasn't specially designed for our device or carrier.
2, 3 & 4) To return to stock, which you will have to do if you flash any ROM before being able to OTA (Over The Air) update, you have to flash (a nice word for install) a fresh sbf. A sbf file is a original source file from Motorola that upon installing (i.e. flashing) will return your device back to stock, more or less. For instance, if you were to flash the 1.26 sbf onto your phone, it would exactly like the way you got it from the store; everything back to "normal" and stock. So before you do this you make a backup of your stuff, preferably on a external sd card. That way if you have to flash a sbf file and return to stock for what ever reason, you can re-install your stuff with minimal effort. Here is a good guide for flashing a sbf, explaining what you need and what to do:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991072
and here is another for all the sbf files currently:

I'm sure you have more questions, so ask always, and I'll try to help when & where I can.
Ok, so I'm assuming you are running a U.S. AT&T Atrix??
So the first thing you are probably going to want to do is get Root access (like getting a jail break on iphone, more or less):
- If your on 4.1.83 firmware (the most current). You can check by going to setting -> About Phone -> System Version. You will need to use Gingerbreak to Root your phone. This will most likely wipe your phone, so save what you can on your pc, ext. sd card, etc.
Instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046626
And Crap, my wife called and whats to grab a bite to eat... start there, and I'll edit and add to the post later.

SwiftKS,
Just wanted to say thanks. While your post doesn't help me directly, it is great to see people helping others out and not just flaming newbies. You are a credit to the community!

Looking for suggestions

After some trial and error I finally achieved success. Now I am looking for suggestions as to what is a well supported slim ROM to flash? Tons of them out there but not sure where to begin. Would like to say thanks to the developers behind Rumrunner, TWRP and SuperSU for making things possible. :good:
Greetings,
These types of threads don't end well.
Everyone has their own opinion about what rom is "best"
My advice...do a lot of reading and a lot of flashing until you find something "you" like.
Thread closed.
Thank You,

[Q] root android

I am triing in rooting few device (lenovo ideatab a1000F, smasung packet neo, vodafone ideos u8150-d. But now, I am getting crazy. I can't find a correct valid guide. I tried kingo, unlock root. IN other site I found seems valid guide, but no link to the rom!
Can someone help me?
I first had a similar impression. If you're not used to the whole android world, it first looks quite confusing. Unclear were to find information, and many are outdated. Discussions and information are mixed in the forums, and most files are released on one-click-hosters.
In the end I found projects like CyanogenMod and OmniRom helpful. Their Wikis are much more clear than the forums to me. Though, once you read some threads on xda, you learn how to extract the important information from there as well.
So don't give up, try to find your way and don't be scared to try things out even if you're not too sure whether it's the right way
thanks

[Q] SAC ROM'S..requesting single thread ALL his work?

i am a humongus fan of this dev..he has brought so many really cool roms to the sprint note 3..but i am really confused about what version im even on..the titles help some..but i would like to experiance every rom,and every version from the beginning to the end.. he has so many..if somneone could help me out by creating a easy readable list of all his roms,in oder, and grouped....im pretty sure he has more than just the M.O.A.R versions..and ive had lot of trouble installing these roms also..i know there are threads helping people install instructions..im jus asking for a thread dedicated to all his roms in one place, and in order,so we can start from beginning, and upgrade accordingly..maybe even install steps for twrp, and philz in the same thread??...if im asking to much, then if someone cpould help me figure this out,and send me a mess with all links in order, cause im lost..

We need to keep all the threads separate per Rom.
For a few reasons, it would be difficult for one person to keep up with every single Rom @sac23 has made on 1 OP post.
It isn't that difficult to sift throughout the development section and or the Q&A section.
If you have issues, questions then please find a member to ask and they'll usually be MORE than happy to assist you.
We all started somewhere, usually from the bottom and some are on the top now.
I hope this answer helped your question out, I tried to the best of my ability.

Please delete all that.
Please.
That tutorial on REDDIT is taken STRAIGHT from my WTF INSTRUCTIONS. If you look closely, he gives me credit. But most parts are copied word for word. I recognize my own phrasing.
Except NOW the Reddit version is OUTDATED.
You need to read the instructions here on XDA, where it was invented. AND KEPT CURRENT.
If you want Reddit, go back there and ask questions.
Otherwise follow the CORRECT Instructions here on XDA.
And stop posting bad info from other forums. You can say your followed it, but do NOT post bad, outdated information.
This is what you need, and where those Reddit instructions came from:
WTF BOOTLOADER UNLOCK, INSTALL TWRP AND ROOT -- AND UPDATE
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76584629&postcount=193
Mod Edit
You'll figure it out by reading and following my current Instructions.
You probably are still on early Oreo or wrong TWRP. You're not understanding you followed outdated Instructions.
Section 9 is about updating to Pie. Your Reddit stuff copied from HERE was written before LG stock Pie even existed.
Mod Edit
Hey friend, cool your jets, chazz asked nicely. He said please repeatedly. And he's the author of the instructions you've tried to follow.
As chazz explained, those ones are out of date. He linked you the recent instructions that I and many others used successfully to root and twrp our lgv30s to get into pie and now 10.
So, go easy pal. Chazz has spent ages helping others out. And his guides are pure gold.
I'd suggest you replace the out of date guidance with current, or better, just link to chazz guide directly in XDA. So others can see best guidance too. Then come telegram and you'll get plenty help there if you get stuck
And up to you ofc, but a little apology goes a long way to fix mistakes
Good luck
