i have a SCH I545 (verizon s4) and i am currently running kit kat 4.4.2 version vrufnk4 with kernal version 3.4.0. I was once rooted but i am no longer rooted and as far as i know everything is stock except the recovery which seems to be different than what i remember was on the phone from factory. The phone also boots with a logo saying custom with an unlocked pad lock. The recovery says android system recovery <3e> at the top and in the middle is an android dude with a red triangle on him and under him it says no command . I had cwm recovery on the device when i was rooting it but don't remember if i got rid of it or left it but i don't believe this is cwm recovery or the factory recovery. But here is my issue, i wanted to update to the new lollipop via the OTA update verizon has issued for my phone and the update came in 2 parts the first part upgraded kit kat to vrufnk4 and the 2nd update was suppose to be the actual lollipop update. The first update to vrufnk4 did fine but when i try the 2nd update to lollipop GOC1 i believe is what it is the instal fails every time. I did try a factory reset via the boot recovery but that did not help.
Thanks for any help you can give me I'm so lost as to what to do to fix this and i just want lollipop on my phone for now possibly root the phone later if i get bored until i can get a s6 edge.
Did you ever get an exact answer? I'm in the exact same situation and don't want to brick my phone. Thanks... back to searching.
I figured it out l. When you plug you phone into your computer there is a Verizon update that pops up you will need to update your phone using that and it will work like a charm. But it's like Verizon updater or something I can't remember but it pops up when you plug your phone in or it did for me. Hope that helps!

I've been trying to get my phone back on stock rom for hours or at least to the point where I can use it. Ive tried several methods in the past day. However, I have not been able to do it without success. This was all for the purpose of updating to 4.3 since I hadn't updated since I rooted my phone. First I unrooted it through Supersu and tried to apply the update but it wouldnt work so then I factory reset it. I applied the update again but it didnt seem to want to update to 4.3 . So then I went to TWRP and cleaned out the files, but I never checked to it to the system. After that It was stuck into a boot loop. It never got past the Galaxy s4 boot image. I still have a back up of everything after I rooted my phone, but after applying the following system recovery
stockroms.net/file/GalaxyS4/SPH-L720/L720VPUAMDC_L720SPTAMDC_SPR.zip
I am no longer able to use TWRP and my phone is still in the same situation. All I know about my phone without acess to the information in the about phone section is that it is a Verison Galaxy S4 and before I did anything it was on an android 4.2.2 rooted stock. On the box it say its a SPHl720BKK. If anyone could help me that would be greatly appreciated before I hard brick my phone with the little experiance i have.

You're posting in a forum for the SCH-I545. That's a Verizon Galaxy S4.
The SPH-L720 is an international phone, You'll need to post on a forum for that particular variant of the GS4 if you expect any help.
So, I had tryed to install at root and flash a Rom onto my Samsung Galaxy s4 i337 using MF3. I was running Android 4.2.2 and when I had tried to unroot my device, something happened and I wasn't able to FULLY get the root off my device. A couple days ago, I had wanted to upgrade to the Android KitKat 4.4 so when I completed the process. It went into Download mode, and then just crashed. Right now it shows an error message saying
"System software not authorized by AT&T has been found on my phone. Please turn off your phone and go to the nearest AT&T store for help."
Also in the top left hand corner it says Secure fail:Kernel so obviously it means I am missing a Kernel of some sort.
Please help me!
How were you trying to upgrade - via OTA? So you have not successfully flashed 4.3 or 4.4.2 through Odin, correct? But you should be able to find everything you need here:

There's a couple different ways to go depending on if you are trying to save your bootloader to be able to downgrade again easier, if wanted, or not.
I just received a notice from Verizonwireless that there is a new software update available. So I went ahead and downloaded the update and attempted to install it. After a few seconds a new window opened showing the stupid Android robot laying on its back and the word "error" displayed. Thinking something bogus is going on with my phone I did a factory erase and retried the software update - same results.
Any way to determine what the error is and correct it so I can do the SW update? Out of curiosity I tried using ClockworkMod Rom Manager to install a custom ROM but got the same error indication.
My phone is a Verizon Galaxy S4 with Andriod version 4.3. The baseband version is I545VRUEMK2.
Thanks.

Sounds like your phone has been rooted / modified. This would be why. Samsung + VZW conspire to make it a mess to update officially when you have modded the phone. Just install the update via the PC and Odin. It is more reliable anyway than OTAs. If there is not an official 4.4 Odin version yet, then install the MK2 update that way and then factory reset then take the OTA.
But sounds like you really aren't sure what you are doing because you should NOT be attempting to use ClockWorkMod Rom Manager on a Verizon S4 with that update!! With the whole locked bootloader fiasco, this operation is not permitted as you can only use the SafeStrap recovery system to load custom roms. Really have to read up some more before you get your phone into a situation it might not find it's way out of...

Hi es0tericcha0s - Thanks for pointing out that Rom Manager shouldn't be used on a VZW Galaxy S4. I knew that but totally forgot about that fact.

You're welcome. What you need is here:

Or a 100 other places, but that one came up first.
I also find it best to factory reset after the update for best results.
I have a unlocked and rooted XT1021 with 4.4.3 (Global GSM). I had previously installed TWRP but wanted to get back to having stock recovery to be able to access OTA updates. In several places in the forums, it was said that all I needed to do was to have the stock recovery (instead of TWRP) and I would be able to have OTA updates, no problems.
I was unable to find the exact stock ROM for the 4.4.3 Global GSM /USA phone, but I did find a XT1021 4.4.2 ROM and a XT1021 4.4.4 ROM - and it sure looked as though the recovery files were identical in both of those, so I tried flashing them to my phone. It did not work. In both cases, I was able to flash the files perfectly, but when I then tried to go to recovery, I get the little android on his back with his chest open and a red triangle, and the words "No Command."
So.... what have I done wrong?
My ultimate goal is to have the device set back up so that it receives OTA upgrades as they are available, but also remains rooted. Is this possible? Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.
I figured out my own problem. The little icon with the "no command" error was normal and supposed to happen. This indicated the recovery was properly installed but did not actually have any command being sent to it. I could verify this by pressing the up volume button and tapping the power button, it then gave me the regular recovery options. After confirming this did work, I then allowed the software to take the OTA update and successfully updated to 4.4.4 ... I expect to possibly go up to Lollipop soon.

If available, search for the stock firmware for your device. Follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-e/general/guide-one-moto-e-beginners-guide-t2807891 dont forget to hit the thanks button.
Ok so hopefully i can get some help with my issue here. I have just resurrected my S4 i thought was dead, but it had the power button sticking problem, and now after about 3 years its going again! This is my problem tho. I got this phone early in the releases. Rooted while on 4.3, unlocked my bootloader on 4.3, ran many ROMS and tons of flashing with no problems. Currently the phone is (ironically) running Ressurrection Remix KK V5.1.0. My Baseband version still states 1545VRUAMDK. I have been trying to get everything up to date but nothing is working right. Im on TWRP version 2.6.0 and yes i have been into recovery since getting it working again. One time when trying to update TWRP i got the Unautorized Software yellow sign sceen. Booted to Download mode and cancelled. I cant get it back into Recovery now and my TWRP wasnt updated. How has my phone became locked again, and how can i fix this? Thanks
If your really still on MDK you can just reunlock your bootloader. Any higher and your stuck on stock, or you could try your luck with flashfire but it only works with touchwiz rims and when I used it on my old s4 it hard bricked it.
You have soft-bricked
Use Odin and flash the no-wipe tar of MDK while in download mode then re-root, etc. You need to use Flashfire to update TWRP. I did the same thing as you recently testing ROM installation with different versions of TWRP. If you update by flashing the img file via TWRP it soft bricks, I found out the hard way.
