So before I was pretty much forced to update to Lollipop 5.0.1 my root was working fine on KitKat.
My G3 took the OTA and now the root is gone. I tried a few exploits already and all failed. I want to re root my phone running on 5.0.1. I am assuming this is a bootloader issue? Has anyone been able to root again running on 5.0.1?
I have already updated LG drivers + Verizon drivers.
Using purpledrake exploit failed saying that:
Your phone is not running a compatible software version. No vulnerable mode detected, rebooting phone.
We tried to temproot you, and it didn't work. This phone isn't vulnerable, it would appear.
Tried using Unjustified Dev ( LG Root Script ) and it failed to find serial. I booted the phone into manual download but the installation stalled and never ran through.
Help?

I'm new to developing and not too experienced. I attempted to root my phone, but was only successful with unlocking the Boot loader. When I attempted to download the new Kit-Kat update, my phone encountered a Firmware upgrade issue. Now in recovery mode, Kies 3 fails to connect nor recognize my phone.

Bah. Kies sucks. Odin is a much better tool for updating / fixing things. What update were you on, as it is important to know the actual build version as well because there are often mini updates that keep the same android version but update other things that can cause a headache if not rooted or modified properly. Also, are you sure it was the bootloader that you unlocked? There is the Loki option and SafeStrap recovery, but not a way to unlock the bootloader unless you have a Dev Edition. I think you had to go to 4.3 before 4.4.2 too. What part did it get to before it failed and you got the error message? If you're lucky, it didn't actually do anything important before it failed, because then you can use Odin to install the original system update you did have then restart from there. If not, then you will need to go to 4.3, then 4.4.2. Once you update to 4.3 and above, your only options for custom roms are via the SafeStrap recovery which has some serious limitations.

I tried to gain root access awhile ago, it showed that my bootloader was unlocked, but I don't recall ever gaining root access, so I left it alone and figured I was just gonna wait for Kitkat. It's weird what is happening to my phone now. It just says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." After trying Kies Lite and normal both versions 1 & Kies 3, my phone won't even be read nor connect to Kies anymore. It won't show up in Odin. I have tried fully uninstalling all the Samsung programs on my computer then redownloading and installing them and still no luck. I really don't know what else to do. Should I just take my phone into Verizon and try my luck?

The chance of finding someone at VZW who could fix this is pretty slim. But the open lock graphic that shows up when you first boot the phone does not imply the bootloader is unlocked on Galaxy phones, unlike say, a Nexus. It just means that something has been done to trip the custom binary check. If you tell me what update you were on, I can tell you how to fix your phone, or if you don't know, then you just need to follow this :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2578209
It should show up in Odin. Not when it has the warning like that, but when you boot to Download Mode. I've bricked plenty of Galaxies like that and have been able to recover every one.

I successfully rooted my LG L70 with towelroot, but I have a problem now. I can't update the software on my phone from ms32310b to ms32310c. It downloads, reboots and appears to install and says system is up to date, but it's still at ms32310b and a couple days later says I need to download the update again. Will it not update because my phone is rooted now with towelroot? Does anyone know how I can maybe force the update so I can stop getting these update notifications? Thank you!
I seem to have this same problem but my phone is the ls740

I guess we have to use lg flash tool to manually flash the KDZ update file, but I'm not sure if updating will unroot the device since the new version in my case doesn't support root.
well on my phone i have CWM so i could probably find a zip to flash

This is absolutely correct. I rooted my LGMS323 with Towelroot (which worked beautifully I might add) but weeks later made the terrible oversight of approving an OTA update without thinking which nuked the root. I've been stuck ever since. Once you update to MS32310c there is NO EASY WAY of rooting your device (as of yet). The only way to reroot is to start over and downgrade from (c) back to (b) or (a) by flashing the KDZ as you mentioned. Because I'm without a machine at the moment and unable to do this I'm TRULY stuck. Don't be me! Stick with what you've got!

Thank you! I probably will. Unless of course they come out with a stable Lollipop rom, then I might be tempted to install Clockworkmod and check it out.
I have a VZ LG G3 that I rooted using StumpRoot. I am trying to do the Verizon system update to Lollipop. It downloads it and then it reboots, but almost immediately it shows me error 0x1117008, and then just reboots again and tells me the update failed. It doesnt give me any other info. Currently my phone shows Android version 4.4.2 and software version VS98511C and shows the Software status as Modified. Is there a way to get Lollipop? Would I have to unroot first? (If so, what is the best way? SuperSU offers me that option). I appreciate any help. Thanks.

You will have to flash back to either stock 12b via KDZ or go back to 10b and upgrade that way. Once rooted, you cannot update to LP via the OTA. Unrooting won't fix it either as it has already been modified.
If you flash back to 12b via KDZ, it will still show your software as modified, but the OTA will take.
Then you can use the one-click root method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/general/guide-root-lg-firmwares-kitkat-lollipop-t3056951) to root LP.

Thanks.

Not sure about Linux. I believe it all has to be done via Windows if using the KDZ or TOT methods.
Here is the link to flash back via KDZ:

10b is great, and everything just works. I am not sure why any one wants to "upgrade" to 23c given Google has not fixed the memory leak issues, but if you want to, read on.
If you have rooted, you do not want to upgrade by OTA. OTA is patches to the unmodified stock firmware. It will fail if your phone is in anyway modified. Here is what you can do:
1. Install TWRP manager from Google Play.
2. From TWRP manager you can choose your phone model and download and install TWRP recovery.
3. Follow the instruction from this link to use TWRP to install the 23c
http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/development/rom-rom-base-lp-upgrade-bump-t3051884
Jasmine ROM is basically stock with root, which is probably what you want.

There is an IPv6 fix that you can flash to solve it.
I upgraded using the Verizon tool on the computer. I was rooted.
So i have a LG G3 Verizon running 4.4.2 and every time i try to update it fails at 2%. i thought i was having this issue because i was rooted so i uninstalled root via SuperSU. The update still didnt work. after that i decided to reinstall root and flash and update or something like that. but all the one-click root applications i try to use say my device is not supported. i now cannot update or re-install root and currently have no idea what to do.
Redundant thread. Replied to you in the other.
Hi,
I use Samsung Verizon Galaxy S4 Lollipop, version 5.0.1 I545.
I tried kingroot, Kingo root, towelroot, and all the rooting programs out there(both one click and PC versions). However, all of them failed to root my device.
I really, really want to root my device....is there anyway to root this WITHOUT particlar rooting programs? Like, doing all on my own?
Help...

There is no root for 5.x on Verizon S4.,,sorry. There was a method to keep root if you were on 4.4, but if you updated it is too late.

That would be a no too. the bootloader was changed when the S4 was upgraded to OC1
and it seems to be the same for OF1 blocking downgrade to OC1 as well.
check your current firmware version. if you're on OC1 try to do kingroot again, as that one is a hit or miss, but OF1 it can't do currently.
"About the phone" doesn't show me the firmware version. do i need a program to find it>
I am on OC1. King root is failing at 52%. What should I do? I am on I545VRUGOC1. EVERY ATTEMPT TO ROOT HAD FAILED. CAN I DOWNGRADE?

You need to use kingroot on windows desktop from what I heard. it also seems to be a hit or miss and might need multiple attempts.
Can you NOT hijack my thread????
And my buildnumber is LRX22C1545VrRUGOF1.
So,,,I guess rooting my device is not possible.
Can I do it own my own, as I said in title? Without programs like Kingo root etc.
I saw people doing it using command window, TWRP, etc etc

okay, here's the thing
i soft bricked my verizon s4 couple of days ago trying to downgrade from OC1 (5.0.1) to MDK (4.2.x) via Odin. before doing that i tried various root methods via pc , king root & towelroot apk , king root desktop, none of it worked. but after i flashed the stock OC1 via odin to recover my device, the first exploit i tried to root was Kingroot desktop app (it was all in chinese i used google translator on android) and it worked! i replaced the knigroot app with supersu using terminal ( http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2015/05/How-to-Remove-Replace-KingUser-KingRoot-with-SuperSU.html ) . though you cant flash any custom recoveries on OC1 . i hope if this is any help.
PC KingRoof worked afted enabling debugging mode and also changing the USB cable.
0F1 can be rooted
The kernel can be downgraded from 0F1 to 0C1, flashing with Odin. (Search for that....) Success is shown if the DATE on the build goes from July to March. It will still say "0F1" but don't let that worry you. From that point I got frustrated with Kingroot language barrier and used MobileGo program (on PC, with 15-day trial period) "one-click Root" option. After that the kernel can be flashed back to 0F1. (You don't have to, but if not you keep getting annoying notifications: "Unauthorized actions have been detected, etc")
I also use the desktop kingroot app to root my gs4 because wondershare does not work on my pc

Wondershare MobileGo will root OF1 (I've done it several times.) You can download and install on your PC and have a free 30 day trial period.
