[Q] Xperia Ray ST18i probably soft-bricked/no touchscreen - Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini, Mini Pro, Xperia Pro, A

Hello everyone,
I have an Xperia Ray (ST18i) that was initially on its latest stock ROM (ICS I think...).
When I saw this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-mini/ray-development/rom-cyanidel-rc-115-1-1-t3105417
I was tempted by testing the ROM and I did...
So I unlocked the bootloader via the fastboot technique (officiel technique via sony website) and after the first flash, it got stuck on boot logo (Cyanide L animation) so I reflashed and then, problems began...
Here are the things I've tried to fix the phone (wiping everything, everytime...):
- (Made a 2Gb Ext4 partition on the external SD-Card)
- Reflash stock firmwares (I tried them all) --> stuck on Sony/SonyEricsson logo on boot
- Reflash cm9, cm10, experimental cm12 --> When done right after flashing a stock firmware, the phone boots but the touchscreen won't work (physical buttons do work) and apparently the phone don't recognize the sim card (no gsm signal)
- Reflash the Cyanide L rom (afte reflashing stock) --> phone boots but the screen becomes crazy (spinning, reverting) and touchscreen don't work.
So at this point, I can't have a working phone. I read in this forum a solution for a similar problem but for the Xperia Mini (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220290)
I tried to connect via recovery to adb and I managed to get su privileges, but the rmi4_fwloader don't exist apparently for the ST18i (Ray) I found instead a /system/bin/bq275xx_fwloader (duh), I truly don't have a freaking idea about what it does but I tried the same command line but replacing the "rmi4" by "bq275xx" and the touch_module_id_0x32.img by touch_module_id_0x11.img (there are 0x01 and 0x02 also in st18i roms) --> nothing changed, I have the same "boot-freeze-for-stock-roms/touchscreen-ko-for-custom-roms" problem.
I tried to flash an Aroma-based custom ROM again with no success, I even tried to flash an Xperia Active ROM (solved the problem for Xperia Mini Pro) apparently.
A weird thing though, in Aroma installer, the phone is detected as Xperia Neo/Neo V MT11/MT15 !! And when installing the cm9 ROM, I got an assertion failure saying that the phone is not a st18i/urushi ! Is it possible that somehow, the device name has changed when flashing a bad ROM (the experimental Cyanide L) ???
I really really need your help guys
Thank you in advance !

Okay, as far as I know, you should reflash a kernel with recovery pre-installed. From there you should be able to flash a working ROM of your choice, otherwise you can try to use the Sony PC Companion on a computer and look for the repair function. If it's able to detect your phone, it should be able to be repaired. You can also use flashtool by Androxide to flash stock firmware anf eventually repair the phone. Finally, you can try EMMA, the official flashtool by Sony. From there you can flash your stock firmware and repair it.

Thank you for your reply, but I already tried all that. In fact, I can flash stock ROMs (tried FlashTool using ftf files, EMMA and also repair via PC Companion) but when turning on the phone after flashing it gets stuck on the boot logo (Sony/SonyEricsson depending on the ROM version).

[Q] Stuck on Bootloop

Hello all.
My Xperia X10 Mini Pro is stuck on bootloop as you can see on this video
http://youtu.be/EhaBn0uuSvE
It just got like that from one moment to the other..I was using stock ROM
I tried to flash with Flashtool with these ROMs
U20a_2.1udpt1_Generic
ST17i-Active_4.1.B.0.431-1254-6360_SONY
On the first ROM it gets 100% successfull but still cant boot !
This phone was bought on Portugal, so I dont know if the ROM makes any difference..
Need some advice please !
I've read somewhere that Gordon's Gate (part of Flashtool) can still access a phone even when it bootloops.
Could you document what steps you already took? Perhaps link to the article you followed? (Below is a list of certain steps one usually takes when installing custom ROMS, but they are by no means always necessary, could you perhaps indicate what you already did?)
Rooted Yes/No/Not Sure
ClockWorkMod installed Yes/No/Not Sure
Unlocked bootloader Yes/No/Not Sure
Custom kernel Yes/No/Not Sure
The location of where the phone was bought will not make a lot of difference for the ROM. It might affect things like hardware keyboard layouts, but there are fixes available for those. But things like specific baseband and firmware are still important. By carefully reading the description, you can usually check if your phone can be used.
To be honest, I only have used Flashtool to flash new kernels to my X10 Mini Pro, for just installing another ROM I use ClockWorkMod.
What you can try:
Unbrick through SEUS: here (video)
I've read about people unbricking their devices with PC Companion, here.
If you should be able to regain access to the phone and still want to tinker:
This ROM works nice with the stock kernel
Later, you could unlock the bootloader, flash custom kernels (nAa ICS 04) and install ROMS needing such custom kernels (the U20 ICS ROMS, like MiniCM9)
Should you feel the need to ever unlock the bootloader, use this tool
Cheers and thanks for your post !
I used SEUS and updated to latest firmware but still no success on booting. It stills the same...
Rooted No
ClockWorkMod installed No
Unlocked bootloader No
Custom kernel Not Sure
Any chance that you can point me a stock rom and stock kernel to see if it boots that way?

Don't update, repair... leave your phone unplugged when SEUS searches for updates, it can't recognise your phone when it's not connected and will give you a repair option. choose that, and make sure you select your phone from the list presented. it will then flash original kernel and firmware to your phone.
Don't know which kernel you flashed before you got this bootloop, but the second rom you mentioned in your opening post isn't even for your phone, so i guess you got confused with what goes for your phone. You don't even get a kernel logo, so i guess you flashed a kernel for a different model altogether, or your stock kernel got corrupted. a repair should fix it.
I'm now updating on PC Companion like belgianguy said
If unsuccessfull I'll follow your instructions, thanks a lot in advance !
Same on PC Companion..no boot !
SmG67, I dont see any repair option on SEUS. It detects the phone and says thar it's updated. If I remove the battery while is searching my phone it keeps saying that it's updated. What am I doing wrong ?
On PC Companion I got the Repair option, it repaired, but...surprise...still can't boot !

That's a shame... because you now have all official sony ericsson firmware on your phone, kernel and rom... If it's still not booting the kernel, there's nothing you can do about it, maybe a repair-shop might be able to fix it.
Well, a repair-shop isnt able to fix it because the mini-usb port has bad contact and they consider this phone out of warranty because of that ! It almost never happens that bad contact..

Well if it's that far gone it might very well be a hardware issue. But just to be sure, could you start Flashtool and see if it still recognizes the device (see screenshot of what I see).
If it isn't able to, an older version of s1tool had an IDENTIFY option that required you plug the USB cable into the computer (but not in the phone), to shut down the phone, then push the BACK button and then plug the usb cable into the phone.
The bad contact you mentioned might be causing troubke as well, are you sure it isn't the cable that is at fault? Perhaps try to attach the USB cable in such a way that its not stressed and so that the phone cannot move (to prevent it from disconnecting due to a bad contact). Your flashes very well might have gone faulty because of that. But then again, the SEUS/PC Companion flashes seem to have succeeded, so hopefully Flashtool can shed some light here.

Flashed Xperia S ROM on Xperia P [fixed]

Hi Guys,
how the title says.. i stupidly flashed a Xperia S ROM (exactly Xperia SSpeed) on my Xperia P.
Now... well... nothing works. Black screen with red LED. Hard-reset turns that LED off and gives that hard-reset-vibrate.
Connecting in normal mode or fastboot mode wont work.
Somebody got an idea how to save my Xperia?
I tried to search for a thread, but nobody seems to be that stupid until now. And because <10 posts i had to post in general.
You should reflash stock fw by using flashtool
Good luck
You think flashtool will recognize my Xperia?
I dont think so, but I'll download it and give it a try. Thx for fast answering
EDIT2:
Awesome, i finally get in fastboot mode while making hard-resets and connecting to USB at the same time.
Now lets search for some stock euro/german FW
EDIT3:
Now i downloaded SEUS and it freezes at phone checking.. ok...
Still searching for a stock euro FW^^
Yes, it will . Why not ?
Your current rom doesn't influence to what flashtool does
Because until EDIT2, not even Windows recognize anything when plugging Xperia via USB in.
Currently I'm downloading SSpeed for Xperia P, takes some time with my connection. When download is finished I'll force closing SEUS, still checking phone.
EDIT:
Yeah, downloaded CWM Recovery, flashed it via fastboot and my Xperia bootet in its old FW. Dont know why, but it works and i think its time to edit the first post to [fixed] and try to get that phone rooted.
Thanks again for answering
Hmm...since the phone will be connected via flashmode to use flashtool but not via USB, so no problem if PC doesn't recognize it
Finally, make a nandroid backup via CWM, i'm sure you will never be worried about that any longer
This don't even worked before.
Thanks for the advice.
Now i found a rooted FW. Works perfekt exept a small fail by myself. It was a lang day for me:laugh:

[Q]can someone help me unbrick my MK16i Xperia pro

Gentlemen, I couldn't find a section for Xperia Pro, please excuse me if this is misplaced.
I rooted my MK16i from ICS 4.0. according to a guide here on XDA forum, with no problems (from 4.1.a.435 .. i think).*
Then I installed system tuner and backed up the bloatware and what I believed was obviously named as packages that support them. Things were working great and the phone gained some performance improvements.
UNTIL, I installed Viber and Skype, and niether were working. I thought I would fix it by restoring all the backed up services and apps. Once I did that and rebooted the phone, it became useless
THe phone keeps rebooting. I get to the XPERIA loading screen and then it restarts again
I tried to connect it to the PC to flash another ROM with the Flashtool, but it is not recognized. All I get is in the computer screen a removable disk drive, that is not accessible.
Note: I didnt update the firmware after I rooted.
Can anybody help?
have you worked with flashtool before ? because there hardly could be any wrong with flashtool. use the latest version with proper drivers.
and since you have rooted phone, have you unlocked your bootloader ? if yes, then flash any custom kernel, go to CWM, then place rom zip on sdcard and stright flash rom via CWM.
flashtool should work though. you can try on different computer.
If flashing a kernel or installing custom ROM sounds a bit out-of-reach, you can always go for the repair option in PC Companion. It worked for me when I had soft-bricked my Neo V (it wouldn't go past the SONY logo). However, be advised that this repair option will erase your phone's internal memory. Also, your phone will be brought on the latest stock ROM, so you will need to root your phone again.
Good Luck!!! :good:

I tried to do somethingn like this but sony companion itself cannot detect the phone either.
My question is, is there a brick that cannot be fixed? I took it to a shop today and still they cannot fix it.
Have you tried to use sony update service?
How are you connecting your phone to flashtool?
Can you show us log from flashtool?
New development:
Now I tried to flash the phone with flashtool 32bit rather than 64-bit and it detected the phone! I could even flash the only firmware in Aeonworld's post Here.
Now I can see the phone connected in my computer.
However, the phone still won't boot but when I power on it gives black screen and after a short while, the led on the side becomes green.
For some reason though, I cannot continue with the rooting steps in his guide.
So anyways, after the second reboot, not the first for some reason, the phone gets detected in PC Companion, and I installed the update and now it is working again :victory:
Thank you all for your support.

THE UNBRICKABLE! Ray stuck on Sony Logo...

Hello guys,
I am on a trip to the UK. During the flight the phone was working fine. Turned it off during the landing and tried to turn it on when the plane landed. But it won't turn on. It's stuck on the Sony logo. The phone was rooted with locked bootloader. I managed to get into the CWM and backup and even made a fresh install of the ROM (zelly cream) I could use the aroma installer, the touchscreen wouldn't work though. PC companion recognises the phone, says there no update. I used flashtool several times. Everything installs correctly but still stuck on sony logo. Please help me. I am stuck with no phone on my trip.

I tried. Says there's no update. I even flashed to the older GB firmwares but still says there's no updates.
Re: Ray stuck on Sony Logo.. Please help I am in a trip abroad!
Looks like a legit hard brick
sony xperia ray
ics 4.0.4 rooted
stock rom
It looks like a hardbrick, but if you're still under warranty then flash a stock firmware and send it to sony service center. Should be fine with locked bootloader

The phone's out of warranty.
I went to a shop that repairs phones, they sent it back in 3 days saying it can't be fixed. Now what? I have an expensive paperweight? It's not heavy enough for that either.
weird,I got stuck in sony logo more than 10 times.and repair it with flashtool did you follow the guide correctly?
Sent from my ST18i using xda premium
Only solution I found
I had almost a similar problem. I had installed the same rom to my xperia ray and tried to update it with different selections in aroma installer. The result was the phone stuck at the sony logo.
I tried PC companion and it recognised a sony phone but not a ray.
I tried seus, this detected correctly xperia ray, but it replied that there is no update for my phone.
I tried flashtool but it could not recognize my phone and any way I didn't have any thing to flash my ray. (I installed the drivers from the subdirectory)
So I tryied something I've used a year ago: Wotan server. I paid about $2 to get a license and after executing the steps of the tool, I finally had my phone back.
I know that I'm not an expert on the field, and maybe there are other free of charge ways to do the work, but this worked for my phone and this was the second time.
PS. After the procedure I updated my phone using SEUS and this time I kept the stock ICS files and converted them to ftf files
I think the internal memory chip is faulty or something. Or it wouldn't even boot in the first place?

Guys please help me
Guys please help me. I rooted, unlocked bootloaders and unbricked android phones many times before but I just don't know what to do now. I tried flashing with flashtool 10000 times, everything goes ok but the phone won't go past the sony logo. I tried removing the battery for days. I tried charging for days. I even tried unlocking the bootloader and installing custom kernels. No luck. SEUS said there's no update even though I flashed an old firmware and after unloacking the BL says the phone has modified firmware that cannot be modified , EMMA says no available services. The only thing I didn't try is the test points method but why would I?
Anyone has any idea what's going on? I don't have the money for another phone right now
Anyone??

Then read through the thread or Google. There is enough information on how to restore your Phone in this thread alone, never mind the rest of the forum or numerous threads that have been started in the last few months.

The phone was rooted with a custom ROM (Zelly Cream 2.0). The rom was flashed weeks before that happened. I was on the plane playing games on the phone. Turned it off for landing. Tried turning it on after the plane landed and it was stuck on the sony logo. I could get into the CWM and used the Aroma installer using the keys as the touchscreen would not work.

Hi,
I bricked my sony xperia mini pro over a dozen times and still managed to get it on track using this method.
01) download the xperia flash tool https://unrestrict.li/flashtool
02) download the latest firmware for your device from the sony support page.
03) install the flashtool then goto the installed directory... find the firmware folder and copy the downloaded firmware file into it.
eg. D:\Users\ROMI\Desktop\Flashtool\firmware
04)start the flashtool.... switch off your phone..... give it about 10 seconds... then hold the volume down button and plug it to the PC.
05)The flashtool will detect the phone... then click on the lightning bolt sign in the flashtool...select flashmode -> ok
06)then select the frimware for your phone in the next window....
07) Then press flash...
thats it. The flashtool will flash the stock firmware and the phone should be unbricked.
hope this helps.
regards
romikavinda
