[Q] Personal Dictionary On S6 w/ Lollipop - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All, I have done some searching and cannot seem to find the proper answer to my question...
I just bought the S6 and it is currently running 5.0.2. I have a word it "Learned" and it it misspelled, so every time i type it i have to correct it. I thought i would just go into the dictionary and edit it but I cant find it? I have tried long pressing and navigating to "Settings" > "Lang & Input" > Personal dictionary as I normally would have on my S4 (and as described in every web article I can find, see below for examples).
The problem is, there is no personal dictionary option anywhere? I am using the stock Samsung Keyboard. The only Significant alteration i have made (yet) is installing Apex launcher, but that wouldn't have any affect on settings.
Any help?
Thank you.
These sites I already tried:

You can try clearing the app data for the keyboard and see if that helps.

When it automatically pops-up again, just long-press on the word. I believe you should be asked "Never suggest this word again?" prompt.

I falsely added some words to the dictionary - can I remove them?

In the onscreen keyboard, the Hero has the possibility for remembering words that are not yet in its dictionary. I added some words by mistake and was wondering if there is a way of removing them (other than a factory reset of course). Thanks for your help!
I have the same issue and emailed HTC. Their reply:
"Android handsets does not provide edit the dictionary settings "
Bad o.o Lets hope it will come
My girlfriend's HTC Magic running the standard Android OS has the option to edit the dictionary, add, delete words etc
Seems they've taken this option away from the Hero for some reason, which is a bit annoying...
so it seems I should take this up with HTC again if they essentially gave me a wrong answer when they said android doesn't support editing the dictionary. tsk tsk ...
i could do with being able to edit the dictionary also. Drunken fat fingers have added some gibberish that keeps popping up
I'd just like to know where the file is. I have rooted my Hero, so if I coudl just find the file, I could at least try to edit it. I tried running a recursive grep for a word I knew was in there, but no luck...
Go to Settings --> Applications --> Manage applications --> Touch Input --> Clear Data

[Q] Disable predictive-like text thing

Hey folks,
May be a stupid question, though I've searched my phone and the net and couldn't find anything, though I'm not sure what I should be searching for anyway.
I'm hoping someone can tell me how to disable the box of words that pops up when typing something, trying to predict what you might be trying to say.
I'm sure it's only been showing up recently, possibly since I installed an application or something, as I don't remember it being there when I first got the phone, otherwise I would have asked this question by now.
I've attached an example of what I'm talking about.
I've tried going into Text Input Settings and enabling / disabling Spell Correction, Word Completion (XT9) and Word Complection (ABC) (all off at the moment) but it doesn't seem to make any difference, and it's really bugging me!
Any help would be really appreciated!

Have you looked in the Swype settings?
Yeah, have looked there, even though this was happening before I installed Swype, installed it recently in the hope it wouldn't use the predictive text stuff (also as I like to use it, too).
It's not just with Swype, it's any of the text input methods, using XT9 or ABC input method seems to make no difference, nor do the settings in the text input options, or indeed swype input options.
Anyone? Anything?
Have you tried, on the keyboard, to hold down the 'ABC' button for about a second. If it turns green then the XT9 predictive words don't appear?
if you have advanced config on your phone, open it up, click on input, and you can set how many preditive words you get. exit, soft reset and you should be good to go.

I keep seeing people mention the ability to set the number of predictive words... but I can't find where to do this. I have a stock 2.13 ROM from TMOUS, with CHT running. Can you point me to the "advanced config" screen you reference above?
Thanks!
Advanced Config is a cab you install.
In Advanced Config, under Input, you should have an option called "Suggested Words" the default is 4, set it to 0.

[Q] Removing words from auto-save dictionary?

Is there any way to remove words that were auto-saved short of a factory reset? They are not in the user dictionary and I found some instructions that said long press the word will bring up a menu to delete that word but it doesn't come up. These are the words that if you have your settings to set to automatically learn new words, it'll automatically save them and not the specifically user added words.
It's words like "tha" instead of "the". Thanks.

Settings>Language & Keyboard settings>Japaneses keyboard settings>Words by learning>Delete saved words - OK.
Thanks. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it worked. The errors and saved names are still saved in the dictionary even though I cleared it out. Thanks though; never would have thought to look there. Could it be I had done something?
I have an X10a, flashed to the global generic (or world generic, whichever one is the correct one for the Americas) running 2.1 with build 2.1.A.0.435, rooted.

[Q] Where has "Input Method" gone?

I'm fighting trying to get an external Bluetooth keyboard to work with my device, but in doing so have discovered that I no longer have "Input Method" under "Language and keyboard settings". Can anyone please advise how to get it back?
I don't use an external keyboard, but I have never seen input method in the Language and keyboard settings page.
To change the input method you have to long press in any text box.
More info here on setting the default keyboard. The article was written for a different phone, but the principals are the same.
I am not sure if using an external keyboard works differently.
Sorry I shouldn't have confused the issue by mentioning the external keyboard. Forget the external keyboard! I do have second soft keyboard installed (Swype), so there ought to be an "Input Method" menu to allow me to select between it and the Android Keyboard.
However ... long-pressing within text boxes does indeed bring up the Input method menu, so at least I have a workaround. Many thanks for that.
I am a keyboard junkie and have eight keyboards installed and have never seen an input method setting on the Language and keyboard settings page.

Since that article was published in Aygust of 2010 I would guess that that setting was part of Dell's Android 1.6 rom on the Streak. My Streak was shipped to me with Android 2.2 so I have never used the 1.6 rom. Looking at some of the pics in the other guides on that site it looks like 1.6 to me.
Here is the keyboard guide at StreakSmart
You know what, I think you've just answered my question. That's where it disappeared to, then; when I upgraded from 1.6 to 2.2!
Many thanks indeed

It's all perception. Since you had 1.6, the setting disappeared. Since I never had 1.6 I wasn't missing what I didn't have. Glad you figured it out and, as usual, the discussion taught me something.
Ditto. Totally

[Q] ICS and ICS + : not possible to fill "search" field

Hello to everybody,
I have a small strange thing.
When I use ICS (or ICS+) browser on the xda site and wanting to do a search, here is what happens :
- I touch the "search this forum" button
- it opens the field below
- I touch the "free text area " to start typing
- I see the keyboard sliding up, and then as quickly, it slides back down and the search box closes...
as a result, I can not perform any search on the XDa site.
It does not do that with Opera nor with dolphin.
PS :as a matter of fact, that was yesterday, because this morning, there is not even the "search" button only the "forum tools" one... but I believe it is related to a temporary site issue.
Anyway, has anyone experienced this? Where could it be coming from?
Same here, quite frustrating....
Same here with stock browser.
If you use the keyboard dock it works. But when use a onscreen keyboard you cant type in this sorts of popup text fields
WOW, thanks for bringing this up. I have had this problem for god knows how long. I first noticed it with my rooted HTCEVO. I seem to have this problem with just about all the forums. Now my prime also.
Is it an Android thing? Did it work for you guys with a different browser? Weird, I havent been able to use the function for so long I havent even looked for the search, and now I too see that it is gone. Is it a Vbulletin vs Android thing?
Would love to know the problem/solution.
thanks.....
EDIT: I have a dock, but never tried the search function with it. Now I guess we cant, I dont see the ability to "search this forum". What happened?
Anyway, there seems to be something going on with the search function on the forum now...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1528883
edit 05/03/12 : search function is now back on the forum. I'll try again the ICS issue, see if it is still there...
Search function is still not working for me on browser+. However, I know it's not ideal for a quick search, but if it's any consolation the advance search field works.
Kind Regards,
