Thanks for your reply. I tried it but since it relies on the native browser playing the video, it does not work. I read something about youtube using "mpeg-dash" for live streams and the Gingerbread stock video player not supporting it. Any idea of a fix or alternative?

safest procedure to replace your per-installed YouTube.apk with modified version for GB 2.3.6 compatible apk is : your device must be rooted and install root explorer or similar one ; go to system/app ( Mount r/w) ; delete the app ; go to data/data, also mount r/w , now search for the word tube here and then delete it and do the same process for data/dalvik cache too .After that you can install your new modded/latest YouTube apk.

Thanks again for your help. Where do I get that modified apk and how is it different from the most recent for GB official app? I have another device with a more recent version of Android but a version of the Youtube app older than the most recent one for GB, and live streams play fine. Does the Youtube app have its own video player or does it use the stock Android video player?

There are few working version of modified app for buffering/playback issues( depends on your OS support )/offline download/video format conversion support/different quality support,,,,, etc etc . Since you have tried with the same router/modem and wifi network it could not be router settings for streaming and please wipe all of the traces of the apk as i instructed and give the rooted version of this beta app a shot ( Read FAQ) , probably will resolve your problems .

Thanks a lot for your time and help. I've tried custom roms before but they're too slow or buggy for my taste.
The option I'm exploring now is to extract the m3u8 file and play it but I haven't found an easy way to generate it or a software that will play it without pauses

Did you try MX player and ARMv6+VFP Codec installed on your stock for m3u8 ? assisted some fellow here with flash player issues and particular streaming problems ( read my comments there , might be useful ) .

I tried several video players and MX is the only one playing these Youtube m3u8 urls but it pauses every few seconds (probably because it reads the .ts chunks as individual videos?). I don't think it's a matter of cpu power or bandwidth because even the tiny 72p stream does that.

Barebones doesn't have that too. Don't know what you trying to connect to, but i've successfully connected to foobar's media server and played music both ways with iMediaShare.
This one is from the Barebones 1.5.1 "Removed.Stock.Apps" package. You have to manually push it to /system/app, then adjust permissions. No idea if it'll work on anything but Barebones 1.5.1, but give it a try.
Not able to get it to work!!
anybody had any luck with it?
Can not work on my Defy...
anyone who have "DlnaSystemService.apk" file? please, upload it!
I tried to push both files to system/apps (with the right permissions) without any luck application doesnt appear
edit: files are from pays rom 6.0
The DLNA app is pretty lousy from my experience, not at all reliable.
I strongly recommend using Estrongs File Manager which works as both a file manager (full LAN access) and a streaming tool, and allows you to stream media files with any appropriate app on your device (I recommend Mobo Player for videos, plays just about anything )
I found this to be the most painless method!

Same here. It was totally unusable.
I need a Flash Player to watch flash videos on HTC Explorer and Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830.
Which is the best ? Or should I install a browser ?
Both ARMv6 devices so don't expect much to work. There are unofficial flash apks out there for ARMv6 but performance isn't that good. If you want decent flash player you'll need an ARMv7 device.

Oh, you're right, I saw that it had a MSM7225A SOC and thought it was ARMv6, but the SOCs with the A are actually ARMv7. You can try the Android 2.x flash apk from the site in my signature. For a browser you can use the default one that came with your device or a 3rd party one like Dolphin Browser, etc.

I installed Dolphin Browser & SWF Player - Flash ®FileViewer on both the phones.
On Galaxy Ace, the site worked using the Dolphin browser and SWF Player seperately, but the images are moving in frames i.e still images moving after 5-10 seconds. On Explorer, the site didn't load anything at all using both seperately.
I don't know, why !
Skyfire??works ok fr me

I try to keep it updated all the time, right now the latest version is up. You can always go to the direct Adobe link at the bottom and see. But newer releases are all just security fixes that aren't adding any new features, they will never make anything past version 11.1.x.

Use Dolphin Browser or stock browser, they are compatible with flash (well, there is firefox and boat too, but I don't use them. And chrome isn't).
I just install the youtube app from the playstore...
I have a nexus 9 running the latest android marshmallow, I wanted to ask Is it possible to run flash player on it? I have tried various guides where you basically download the flash apk and use a browser such as firefox or dolphin but these seems to always crash and are very glitch. Are there any alternative methods?
Also is it possible to run something like Ubuntu or linux on a nexus 9 device? Thanks

That's what I'm using. Works OK for videos, but forget about flash games. The problem is, Dolphin is already slow at loading and rendering pages. When you add flash on top of that, you end up with page freezes or crashes half the time. But sadly, that's as good as it gets. That's the only way to run actual flash content nowadays.
Your only other option is to pay for a service, like Puffin or Proton Browsers, where they render the flash content on their servers, and then stream it as HTML 5 video to your browser.
