[Q] ZenWatch firmware on G Watch? - LG G Watch

Saw that the ZenWatch is getting 5.1w today. Is there anyway it might be compatible with our G Watch?

No, Android builds are highly device specific, just like the builds in our phones. Those you see compatible with others are simply because the carriers are rebranding the same phone as another model.
That said, unfortunately there would be differences in the drivers used for the bluetooth module, display, storage, etc. and the kernel probably would not even boot. Worst case scenario is you'd end up with a wrist sized brick from the OTA wiping out your NAND's partition scheme with the one for the ZenWatch.

this is after I put nova launcher and some other apps on it too and customized them.
it wont show the status bar properly now tho :s but its a compromise until someone makes better firmware for it as the current firmware/launcher are buggy and not good.
LOL. I thought you were joking when you said you were getting one. Maybe you can bug Omate for a "spare" case.
Better yet have Bell & Ross make you a custom watch face and strap.

no i have it on my wrist right now. i'm not impressed tho in that the software is crap it has some bad bugs that being said tho if it didnt have the bugs it would be pretty cool (the truesmart I've pre-ordered will be better tho)
I think that the bugs are coursed by them trying to mix elements from the app drawer and the home screens together. it has no homescreens or widgets but has folders were you can put 3 yes only 3 apps per folder how useless. and sometimes apps show multiple icons per app installed worst i've gotten is 3 for one app install and only uninstalling it will remove it. also after you've filled so meny pages of apps it starts not showing some of them so you have to do a device search to find/open them. and if i try install say nova or next 3d instead of the usless default launcher they would be fine but. the notification bar totaly vanishes and stops working. so until someone makes better firmware for it or maybe the omate firmware will work on it ? it has omate firmware on it now and the model number also says omate. i'd just be worried about breaking it by doing that and couldn't anyway unless someone makes a root hack for this? so atm its not as good as it could be.
Did you buy it directly from China? As far as I know, PEARL isn't shipping the AW-414.GO yet.

At the moment only Europe, my mate bought 3 so there sent it through DHL,
you can email or call them but I don't think there will send just the one,
best wait till November as more online sites will be selling them,
http://www.merimobiles.com/omate-truesmart-smartwatch_p/meri8080.htm
plus price will be cheaper once more online stores have them
You could always buy it directly from China. Just look around at Alibaba.com.

I would like to see how it works as a smartwatch All these discussions about various android watches got us far away from the original concept of smartwatch, to be a remote display for your smartphone where you get your notifications upon which you decide if you want to take out your smartphone to proceed That's how it works with MetaWatch and Pebble, a simple notification smartwatch. As much as I'm looking forward to Omate and other android smartwatches, these crossed the threshold of smartphone on your wrist which is an overkill for a lot of people. So, I would really like to see how this AW-414.Go will be able to deliver notifications about incoming calls, text messages, Gmail, and POP/IMAP/Exchange emails.

I am not sure if you can use it like the pebble it errored when I tried bluetooth it to my phone with the app that seems to be the one that does that and It didnt come with any instructions/manual.
I will try again tho also is their anything else you would like to see?
I disagree in the sense that having a full android os means you can do a lot more with it and customise it however you want plus you dont have to use its built in phone/3g if you dont want to. I mostly use mine at home on wifi. The battery life is a joke on 3g and exstremely bad if you actualy actively use it with 3g/phone enabled and not just with those on in standby mode. But thats to be exspected due to the size of the batterys in these kinda devices.

How bad is battery life on 3g? Because if it truly is that bad it kind of makes it pointless even using as a standalone, if it won't even make it through the day. And if it won't work as a companion,well...

I got an email saying they have signed for it, so maybe another 7-10 days??
so essentially 3 weeks without my Ultra. But I didn't have a choice. Wasn't going to have a device that thought it was charging all the time..

Hi SpyderTracks,
Same issue here when I had my Z Ultra. It says app is not compatible. I think this is due to the fact that it is identified more as a tablet than a phone. When I first was playing with the floor model, I noticed that the "Settings" menus look more like Android tablet style than the phone version. I've noticed that on my Galaxy Note 2, the settings menu is black versus white/gray on my Galaxy Note 10.1. I can't say if this is for certain all Android but it seems that way looking at other phones vs. tablets. Another app I was looking at was "mysms" and it shows main app as incompatible. Other apps it shows both the phone version and tablet version as compatible.
I've searched Google and run across a trick where you modify one or two elements the "build.prop" file to make Google App store identify your phone as a different phone (like a Samsung S3). I haven't tried this myself though I plan on doing it sometime in the future possibly.
Hope this helps.

Thanks mate. I'm in contact with Microsoft on this and they say the XZU should be compatible, they're blaming Google play store for the issue, but Google say the app compatibility is specified in the code of the app and they have no control over it. I've done a quick search and found some code snippets which back this up, so I think I'll escalate the issue with Microsoft.
Would still appreciate some more testers with C6802, C6806 to try? Will give me extra weight with Microsoft if I can point them to this thread.

Google for office mobile 365 apk, install it manually, it works fine and great on z ultra big screen. I already tested it. I have not rooted my ultra but on wanam exposed module there is an option to trick the play store so that it shows all app.

Hi all
Thanks to those of you that helped out. Microsoft have admitted the issue and are looking into their specifications for compatibility within the app. As it's a coding issue, it'll need an update so may take a bit of time, but it's great they're looking into it.
If you want to keep up with updates on this, the thread is here

[Bounty] always listening voice recognition for AOSP ROMs.

One big feature that this phone is missing that I wish it had in it is the always on voice recognition that the moto x has. Upon getting this phone I assumed that I would be forever without this feature. However, upon doing some research I discovered that the snapdragon 800 processor has a dedicated voice recognition core just like the moto x, the only difference being that nobody has taken advantage of it. So, since I'm not a developer by any means, I decided that I would turn to the amazing developers here at XDA to see what they could whip up.
Requirements:
-Must work on AOSP ROMs. (I use Houston's PA 4.0)
-Must actually use the voice recognition core as to not demolish battery life.
-Preferably in a flashable zip (although not required)
-must work on all variants of those who pitched into bounty.
I will kick off the bounty with $15 to whomever can get this working.
Running total: $45
Ghstudent: $15
Jeev_one: $15
Pools200: $10

Vzw g2 and Sony smart watch2

I just picked one up today at best buy today to scratch the itch that I've had for a while now. Idk if many like the idea but I'll give my initial impressions.
First off pro and con
* the band it comes with. Reason being is the one I got(which surprised me since I thought it would come with the rubber one) is metal and no one could get the links out. I am the definition of a skinny person. I had to buy the tool which arrives tomorrow.
Pros
* I like the screen size and being touch. (I was debating between the pebble also) looks good enough to satisfy.
* the notifications work better than I thought. The vibration when you get a text fb or any sort of notification is nice since I rarely feel it in my pocket.
*can control the play music app through the watch so I don't have to mess with the phone wile driving
Con's
* Facebook extension if you just choose the ppl you want it to show up doesn't seam to stay logged in.
*still skeptical since I was on the fence about getting one. Maybe a few days with it I'll start to enjoy it.
If you have questions I'll try to answer them for you

Yes this one work with all androids. I like the fact that I don't have to go to my pocket to check to see about a message. I don't always feel it when it vibrates since I don't like the sound. Its really easy to see it sun light just not in the dark with out turning on the back light

Letting y'all know I'll be returning the smart watch just the few days I've had it the watches battery got better but my phones battery dropped from 5 hours of screen on to 1-1/12 hrs. I'm not around a charger that often. I can't have it die on me that quick. I loved it just thought it would help battery life since I wouldn't be turning the screen on that often

Considering battery issues, should we take the update?

Title sums it up; considering the strange wifi issue causing massive battery drain on devices as seen in another thread, those of us getting replacements or new devices, should we still take that out of the box update if given the option, or hold off and show results? Did anyone not update and see a difference in wifi?
