Hi all, I want to install the last CM11 snapshot version. I succed, but if I try to remove some apk from the zip the installation is aborted, even if I delete only Apollo and Calculator. What I do is:
- unzip
- remove apks from system/app
- zip
I have CM Recovery 6.0.5.1. This procedure worked fine with CM10, what is going wrong now?
Thanks in advance.
While I'm pretty sure it's ok to remove those files, you shouldn't unzip then zip it back. I think that messes with the zip's signature.
Mmmm this is strange, with CM10 it was not happening. I doubt that there is a signature. Anyway, I cannot try anymore because I manually removed using the terminal after the installation and don't want to reinstall everything. But thanks, in the future I will try to do as you suggested.
I tried with a nightly as you suggested and it worked. Thank you again!

I want to Flash the CM 6.1.3 V4.5.7 on my X10,
never flashed any rom before, so I want to know is there any brick proof and foolproof Guide for it ?
I read many threads, but still confused,
Can I flash it using Flash Tool 0.2.8 (thats the cool tool i found)
any Help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks.
No, only with xrecovery!
So:
1. Update with SEUS (SonyEricssonUpdateService) --> Every data on mobile gets erased except sd-card - same after xrecovery
2. Use FlashTool to root + install xrecovery
3. Follow instructions on 1st page of CM6.1.3 dev threat
already done to your 2nd instruction (xrecovery)
seems like, I am on my own ...lol
Thanks anyways ..
Are you rooted with xRecovery installed? You can flash the CM6.1.3 v4.5.7 in xRecovery after rooting.
Make sure your baseband is either 54, 55 or 58.
1. Place the CM6.1.3 v4.5, 4.5.7-update zip files on your sdcard and reboot phone.
2. When the SE creen shows up, press the back button and it shall boot in xRecovery.
3. Make a backup in xRecovery.
4. Then make a full factory wipe.
5. Then wipe cache.
6. Then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache and then wipe battery stats.
7. Then go to install custom zip and choose the CM6.1.3-V4.5.zip on your sdcard.
8. Then again go to install custom zip and choose the CMUpdate 4.5.7.zip from your sdcard.
9. Reboot in xRecovery.
I am also a noob, not even rooted yet D:
Am I right in thinking that I follow this guide (The stickied flash tool guide):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Do everything there, then install xRecovery? (If so, is there a link or guide for this anywhere?)
I think I understand everything past that..
Just incase I make a complete balls-up of this, can I return back to what I currently have, relatively easy, provided I made a backup in xRecovery?
Thanks
You can use flashtool or superoneclick to root.
Then install xRecovery.
Here is a thread on how to root using superoneclick:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Ok, so my phone is rooted with SuperOneClick.
Trying to do the xRecovery procedure, but I don't really feel like buying the app, when I don't have 100% faith in what I'm doing is right, so I'm trying the manual method.
I also downloaded a free alternative to root explorer, so I'm using that.
When it tells me to copy the 3 files to '/system/bin' folder, where is this located? I can't find this when browsing through my phone files on my computer..
Also, the BusyBox app just searches for BusyBox and then FC's?
Soory for being a noob ):
Make sure that the busybox installer has got superuser permissions. xRecovery needs busybox to be installed.
errrrr, and how do I do that? haha
Appologies! I can't find noob-friendly info anywhere ):
EDIT: restarted phone and notification came up

Got the busybox and xRecovery installed then ?
I would love to say I have, but whenever I try to copy the appropriate xRecovery files into system/bin/ I get the error message 'Not enough space'
Any ideas?
EDIT: and then I discover they are allready there.. ¬¬
DAMN I feel like such an idiot doing this haha
Why are you copying xRecovery files onto /system/bin/ ?
... Just install the xRecovery apk file
I don't know ): I was just following what this thread was saying:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
hahaha, but anyway, I've got that installed now.
So now I drop the CM 6.1.3 files into the root of my SDCard, right? Not sure what it means by 'the root' of my SDCard, Im assuming it mean's i Just put it straight on there, not in any folders or anything?

Yeah... or you can also put it into some folder to make it organised. Make sure to make a backup in xRecovery before flashing the CM 6.1.3 ROM.
I getcha! Thanks a bunch, man! I should be ok from here (Hopefully)
Thanks for your time! ;D
Sorry for double post, but, 2 last quick questions:
1. When 'flashing' things to my phone, is that the same process I used putting the customROM on? (Selecting a custom ZIP file from xRecovery) Or is it done in an entirely different manner? I ask because I want to install some of the extras listed on the mod page.
2. Is it pretty simple and straight-forward to restore my data from my stockphone if I need/want to?
Thanks again!
This guide has detailed steps for installing custom ROM
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979561
p.s. for update v4.5.7, follow the steps to install v4.5 then flash the update files after you are done.

Yeah... flashing is done in the same way as installing the custom zips in xrecovery.
At any given time you can revert back to your old ROM whose backup you created in xrecovery. It will he exactly as it was before you flashed the new ROM.
To restore data you need to backup data using anorher software, typically 'titanium backup'. Its very easy to restore apps using this app.

Cheers guys! I think I have everything covered now!
just to be sure
If i understand correctly, u have to backup your phone with xrecovery to be able to restore to the factory reset.
It's like changing the OS of a PC.
thanks
I recently installed [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01] with no hicups, thought I'd try his new rom/mod out. Did same process but got unable to open zip(bad)
did a restore back to my old 2.1 and tried to put [Cyanogen6.1.3]gingerbread[v01] back on but got the unable to open zip again, my Xrecovery will not open any zip files. I've even tried re installing xrecovery, busybox etc.
Any ideas guys ?

redownload the file, it sounds like it could be a corrupted file or an md5 mismatch.

Same problem.
Tried from another laptop and still same problem...
Fixed - Format SD card and re install busy box/x recovery, re do fresh backup.
Installed the zip file via CWM but I am unable to install it from my apps ?
If you have installed a zip via CWM then it is already installed. How come my apps in that?
so i can't remove it at all ??
Yes, of course. Just Uninstall it if you want.
how? do you have a guide ?
You can just uninstall it like a regular app but the changes you made with it will persist.
Basically all you need to do is install a nightly CM7 build over the top via CRM and this will overwrite the EDT tweaks. You might want to do a nandroid backup first but dont bother wiping or anything first.
Hey guys im flashing joker's cm9 beta. With this you have to flash gapps. This is all working great with no complaints. However, I was wondering how I would edit the gapps file to so that I can add in some apps that I like to use ie Titanium back up, root explore....
I have tried unzipping the file and adding in the the apps to the /system/app folder. However after flashing the gapps while the app is there it will crash when i try to run it. If install from the apk over it, then the programs work fine.
Thanks for the help!

There will have to be some codework done in order for it to actually install, you cant just toss some apks in there. AFAIK atleast.. I personally would just backup all your apps with TI and then all you have to do is install TI and restore them all. Its how I personally do it. If your hellbent on having them there on your first flash you *might* be able to put them in the /system/apps folder of the actual rom before flashing. Not 100% sure that'd do the trick but ive installed a few apps that way myself.

Edit: I tried this but with no luck. I even tried rebooting to see if that would help and it did not. Does anyone know of a guide how to create gapps or how to edit a build of one?
Yeah, that's what I have been doing with TI. It would just be faster if it was already there and I wouldn't have to navigate to it. Install and then have it install all my apps. I will try putting the apps in the rom and see if that works. I was hoping there was some tutorial on how to make your own gapps or how to edit an existing one. It would have been awesome if there was a program that made the gapps for you haha.
I'd like to know as well. I am about to try the rom thing myself, but it would be quite handy to add into the gapps file and use it instead of the rom, then I could switch roms and still have gapps file with my chosen installs without having to adjust each rom file and just adjusting a single file for all.
update:
I tried adding apps to the rom zip file and for whatever reason I can't add to it. I can remove from it, just not add to it.
That happens with certain zips. Extract the zip, add in the files you want and zip it again at the root folder level (select all the folders and send to compressed zip folder in Windows). That's how I always do it to avoid errors if I want to add anything to a zip.
Take a look here to learn how to make your own flashable zips - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=31624265

Are you getting an error when you attempt to flash gapps? If so, what's the output?
The steps aren't very detailed, download the zip, check the MD5 and flash it from recovery. Wipe data and cache, reboot.

i think i may have downloaded a different file thanks for the help. Ill try it again in a little bit.
How exactly did it fail? Flash CM9 from the patched CM7 recovery if already on CM7 or CM9 - Flash Gapps zip - Wipe Data - Wipe cache. It's that simple. Never had a flash fail for me unless the zip was broken or my battery was too low. Oh yeah... Make sure your battery is charged 50% +
I believe there is an updated gapps zip for alpha 4 specifically, so make sure you use that one instead of the old one that's already on your sd card from alpha 3. FYI gapps zip does not install google apps on your phone. You will still need to download apps like maps, earth, youtube, goggles, etc from the market.
Sorry if you know/tried all of that... OP was kind of vague...
