I was wondering if someone could tell me what part of the android operating system deals with just the os part, (nothing else). And how would i go about making it into a rom?

The just OS part as you are referring to that deals with the OS UI and surface is written in Java (Along with some XML and other aspects) using the Android SDK. I am a little bit confused by your wording but what I'm guessing your asking (If this isn't what your asking please elaborate some more and I'll be happy to help you out) is how to compile Android from source. To compile Android form source I would recommend taking a look at the official Google build guide as well as this great guide on how to compile Lollipop from source. Let me know if you have any additional questions I'll be happy to clear them up for you!

How do you make a ROM from source?

I've had a look around and I can't see much information on this.
Is there a decent guide, or can anyone post some information on how one would go about compiling a Froyo (or any other release) build from source?
I'm not daunted by the technical complexity and I have no problem putting together a VM to build in and in fact, I did that to build Chrome OS not too long ago.
From what I can see I would just create a git clone of the latest code branch and compile it, although it looks like I would also need some drivers. Where would I get these from?
Would my newly compiled image need to be signed somehow before I could install it?
I have a general understanding of what I need to do, but there are some gaps in my knowledge
Hope this helps,.... Pulser pointed me towards it,... I haven't had a go myself yet as I've been busy,....
Have fun,....

Thanks - that was pretty much what I was looking for.
I'm a bit pressed for time as well recently, but hopefully I can try a build at the weekend.

[Q] How to begin developing android ROM

I am new in XDA developer forum. I knew java and android at the immediate level. Now I'm interested in creating my own Android smartphone ROM. After searching in google, I see that there are a thing which is called "Default ROM" released by google. Base on this ROM, different companies created different ROM in their own style such as Sense, Motoblur, TouchWiz, etc.
So where could I download such a default ROM, and how could I begin with ROM developer. It is kind from my if anybody could give me a tutorial.
(Sorry if the question is exist in the forum, because I could not find it)
Thanks a lot.
Best regards,
me too, i have the same question, can someone help? thx
Your best bet is to have a look at compiling the aosp from source which you will need a Linux os for. The android sdk is a good place to start.

Yes to build android from Google's source you will have to have a Linux os. Either stand alone Linux or a version like ubuntu

Me too, trying to learn. Just installed dual boot Ubuntu 10.1 to my comp and trying to figure it out. Big change coming from win7. Ubuntu 11 I couldn't figure out
Sent from my Desire HD using xda premium
One place you can start by checking and has a lot of good info is http://freeyourandroid.com/
I learned how to port from them although I still need to ask questions but it can get you started.
If you just want to get Ubunto going in a virtual machine for now and have NO IDEA take a look at this: http://theunlockr.com/2010/03/26/ho...om-for-android-part-1-setting-up-the-kitchen/
Old release links but Ubunto will update itself

[Q] Green Orange NX Aliyun OS

Hi people
Doe's anybody can say me how difficult it would be to replace the Aliyun OS with android for this phone?

I read on Wikipedia that Aliyun OS is based on Android, so this should not be a big problem right?

thanks, so nobody knows exactly what it is? It's a crappy linux and android fork :silly:
But I saw a thread somewhere on the net where they replaced Aliyun by Android on a ZOPO device.
Is it possible to do that here too or is it device specific?

It's have to be basen on linux, otherwise no android apps would run on the device.
I think it's possible but I would like to get the most information before I spend 200$ for this device.
If anyone has more information, it would be nice to share this.
I found a Aliyun OS Rom here : http://pan.baidu.com/share/link?shareid=509654&uk=2650968838
Looking at the structure of the rom, it's clearly an android fork.
- framework-res.lar
- libandroid.so
- libandroid_runtime.so
It think they just changed the extension from apk to lar and maybe changed some things on the UI side.
Bad it's based on android 2.3.3.
When I'm at home I will look at the boot.img.

Request: help building a vanilla ROM

Hello guys:
I would like to know if someone is interested in helping me build an Android vanilla ROM. This is, I want a clone of what the Nexus 5 has to offer.
I have a deep knowledge of the Linux terminal. That is not a problem for me. Unfortunately, I have no idea about how the Android build system works, I do not know what a vendor tree is... to make it clear, I just do not know what I need to make a ROM work.
I know building a ROM is easy when you just have to build it for a device that is supported by Google (such as the hammerhead, for this matter) or when you have to build a ROM for a device supported by CM. But I do not know how to start from scratch to just make a vanilla ROM.
If you are interested, drop some lines here. Thank you very much.
Here is the information about building. If I have many time in the Future, I would like to test this method.
Please give me some information, if working:

You need 10GB free space, the android source code is very big.

Thank you, but I'm already there. Unfortunately, I miss the "lunch" recipe for the d802, and also I think I need a "vendor tree". No idea of what that means.

[Q] How do I upgrade a device tree and kernel for Lollipop?

I know it's not as simple as it looks, otherwise everybody could do it, but at least can someone point me in a vague direction?
Just out of interest, how do you upgrade a device tree to support newer Android versions? Anything in particular which might prevent Android from functioning correctly?
I've acknowledged SELinux as a problem already.
I'm new to running device trees and kernels but I do know my way around Linux (I know how toolchains works, and I can build Android and kernels, for example) and I know C++, C and Java.
I've 'Google-d' the matter, but to no avail – there appears no clear way to do it.
+1 this question
i want its answer too:good:
