Depends on manufacturer/model... Some of them work, some of them don't... Download "PPP Widget" and try for yourself, if you can get it working.
I tried with my OPTION modem, but didn't worked... Though, it's gotta be said... that was like a year ago or more...
I have also tried a Vodafone Greece 3G USB modem once and unfortunately it didn't work. I'm not sure if it had to do with my custom rom though (KatKiss 5.1.1)

Even connecting to a USB verizon modem would be am option?
Thanks,

You want to use a usb modem stick? Asked that b4. It seems impossible. It would be great though. If someone could dump or cook a rom from the 3g version to detect the USB modem in the wifi version, I would get rid off my cradlepoint router.

@peare: Are you referring to this thread? If so what was the outcome? The thread appears to have run dry with a request for dmesg. I suspect there is a similar problem with the phone tether needing an NDIS driver, I wonder if these could be installed on a rooted device without cooking the ROM?
It shouldnt be that difficult i suppose. I dont know linux, so i cant say anything. We need a line in wireless settings to point us to a APN. 3g model has a modem installed, I am inserting the modem externally. So whats the big deal? Some drivers and an application should do that for us.
It's really weird.
I've tried it on three different computers (All Windows 7 though)
But it used to work on all three (except for when my desktop USB-ports ****ed themselves up)
I'm beginning to believe the outlet in which the USB cable goes into might be damaged.
I'm about to flash full Stock firmware, cause that's the last time I remember it working (like 3 months ago), and see if it works.
Any other tips?
Currently on WanamLite 11.4, and been flashing back and forward to Cyanogenmod using CWM flashables.
Clean phones USB port first
Second install USB drivers .

Tried installing latest stock LPD firmware, still doesnt work.
Also tried "cleaning" the USB..
Phone must be broken..
**** I cant be bothered with this ****!
I suppose I'll have to wipe every trace of any flashing and send back to Samsung

Okay, won't help me any at all now though.
I flashed stock, lost root (i'm so stupid) and now since I can't connect the phone to my computer, I can't get CWM back to restore my backup.

Seems a bit weird, have you tried using another cable?
I almost bricked my phone once because of a damaged cable...
Cheers,
Stefan.
Try cleaning the contacts between the battery and your phone.
Did you fix your problem?
If not, what exactly happens when you plug it in to your computer?
If "something" at all happens, then you may just need to switch the internal USB switch to use PDA and not MODEM in the PhoneUtils hidden menu. Make sure both USB and UART is set to use PDA!
Dial: *#*#7284#*#*.
did u try to erase kies and install only driver?

UART was set to Modem.
I'll try again after I find my god damn USB-cord
When I connect my phone to my PC, it charge normally. But I could not see USB connection icon in the top bar.
Then I tried to dial *#7284# and changed USB to PDA, reboot and it seems OK, but once I reboot again the setting is gone.
How could I keep the setting no matter how many times I reboot?
Have you installed USB Drivers or Kies ???

I have installed SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe. I think that's is enough.
My phone works fine before, I can detected my phone once connected to my PC.
This happens after I flash the ROMs. I have tried flash other ROMs, but still the same.

did you try a stock rom? may be loose usb connection. though it charges, sometimes it will not be recognized by the pc. use another genuine samsung cable and check.
Phone works fine before you flash ROMS you say .
Therefore its the ROMS or a bad flash what roms and what method to flash ??

So while I am fairly good with computers, I am pretty new to android phones. I have been trying for a few hours now to connect my phone (Galaxy S2 d710) to my computer to use in QPST and similar programs. The only way that I have been able to get it to connect in modem mode (not usb modem tethering, that is) is to turn my phone off and boot to the Odin flash page thing. Problem is, Odin is the only application that can communicate with my phone when it is like this. I have found several guides on how to change the usb settings temporarily to a modem connection, but all of the numbers and codes it tells me to type in either don't work, crash, or go to a blank page.
EDIT: Just realized that I should probably note that I am rooted and running cyanogenmod.
Any help is appreciated!

You're welcome.
Hello people,
i got a small problem. I just bought a sm-g925F and be very happy with it so far. Well the problem is, that i can't connect to the phone via USB to flash another FW because 6.0 isnt aviable for switzerland (AUT) now. For those who think they maybe got a solution: impossible. I already tried everything in every forum. I tried different cables, different PCs, download mode, usb debugging, different drivers, manual set drivers, exit silent mode, wipe device, apply a new usb port on the device (im not that shure if they really did it).
Win 10 gave me a message, that its unable to get informations about the connected hardware. For me there are two solutions: 1. Hardware device of the device core PCB, 2. the Firmware is broken somehow.
ANYWAY i dont want a solution for that. Im just ask if its possible to flash another firmware for example via Wireless Lan oder an SD Card, connected to the S6 via USB adapter.
I am thankful for every reply
Kind regards
Same problem here, USB was working 100% then I got the 6.0.1 beta and now I can't get USB at all.. Are you on the beta?

Nope, i did a usual update to 5.1.1 when i got my phone.
if the device is still working...dial *#0808# and select MTP+ADB and try if u can flash the new FW you want to flash.
Mtp+adb was already selected
May i change these settings?
Get usb otg cable, and push firmware as adb or put zip rom on usb and browse the connected usb via otg in twrp

I thoght on this, too... the Problem is that i only have stock recovery
Hey guys i just got my S6 back!
I gave it to a samsung partner after some phones with the samsung service. They wasnt able to fix this problem. So i decided to give it away to repair it. It took 6 days(!!) whats amazingly fast and they installed a new main pcb, usb slot and another thing (dont know the part name) and it works fine now!
Thanks for all your help.
