[Q] [G-850F] Device encryption and fingerprint sensor - Samsung Galaxy Alpha

Anyone using device encryption with Samsung Galaxy Alpha and Android 5.0.2? Are you still able to use fingerprint to unlock lockscreen and can you still use the lockscreen shortcuts (e.g. to quickstart the camera) if device encryption is enabled ?

[Q] How-to recover default SECURITY - LOCK SCREEN settings (make NO-PIN-required)?

Hi.
Very annoying... I've got properly root'ed SGS3, with stocked ROM.
Originally I have all available Security - Lock Screen settings interface which allows me to use it NON-protected Lock (so unlock by swipe with no PIN).
However I have installed corporate Root CA (Certification Authority) certificate in the device, also just standard stock settings interface under Security. It asked me that it will set security settings on Lock Screen to require PIN. I was so stupid to tell "Yes". It installed the certificate and indeed it made me to set PIN. But, because I am using WidgetLocker-drawn Lock Screen with sliders etc, it is awful that default ugly PIN-require unlock screen interfere with this.
I noticed that however I do not need this Root CA cert - because I removed it (also via regular settings under Security section), rebooted device and corporate e-mail works perfectly without Root CA added to the device.
I removed cert but it has NOT unlocked Security - Lock Screen settings back.
I checked under Certificates UI - my corporate Root CA cert is not there at all, so all original stock, but now I cannot set PIN-required OFF back as it was originally, all UI is locked telling me that it is limited by administrator, encryption policy or certificate store. How to UNLOCK it back to stock configuration??
I know bad methods very well of course (WIPE and FLASH), but what about lass bad methods? Because I did not touch anything beside regular stock settings UI so dream to expect there's good method of returning Security Settings/Profile to "LOW" or In-Secure back as it was on stock...
Big thanks.
SOLVED!
Settings - Security - Remove Credentials (at the certificate section).
Helps immediately. Lock settings UI get unlocked, swipe available again.
Sorry & thanks.

[Q] Face unlock with encryption enabled

Hi,
Is there any way to enable Face unlock with the device encrypted?
While the stock rom is forcing you to have the same pin/password for encryption and lock screen (pretty stupid but anyway), with vdc (or even in the settings app for omnirom) you can use a different password for encryption.
Thank you.

Fingerprint / Pin

My LOS 15.1 hasn't locked - no Pin, no Pattern.
So I would like to add fingerprint to have some security. But it works only together with a pin/pattern - at least I understand it like that.
So I give it a pin, added fingerprint.
Now I have a problem. While the device is still not asking for pin/fingerprint when open it - it asks when I want to change something in these security settings. But my dammned pin fails. I am 100% sure I used that one.
What can I do? Beside that I can't change security settings it seem I have full access.
And isn't it possible to unlock the device with just the fingerprint?
I could found a few answers by myself.
Don't know why my pin number fails, I reflash a backup and it was clean again.
The fingerprint just replaces a pattern/pin, that's why this is combined. Operating with just a fingerprint is not intended for some reasons.

Is pocophone encrypted by default?

Hi there..
I'm trying ti understand device encryption before i install a custom ROM on my poco. (Any links explaining how encryption works on android would be greatly appreciated)
My first question is whether the pocophone encryption is turned on by default.
Under the encryption settings, the "encrypt device using lock screen password" slider is set to off.
However, every time I reboot the phone, i am forced to enter the lock screen password as fingerprint and facial recognition do not work. I assumed that this is because encryption had been enabled on my phone by default. But then why is the slider set to off?

The option that you are talking about under encryption settings, is the same as "Android secure start up" on AOSP. If you enable this option, you need to enter your device password while you restart the phone. Or else your device won't even boot up (and you won't see the lockscreen) completely and you will be stuck. It's an extra layer of security on top of lockscreen password/pattern/pin. Now coming to your second question, it's a security feature on android where no other unlock methods will work except PIN/Password/Pattern after you restart the device everytime. And it has nothing to do with encryption or decryption. Even if you decrypt the ROM, you will still have to enter your password or pin or pattern on every reboot. Only then all other unlock methods will start working. Some ROMs have a feature where you can bypass this security and unlock the device straight away on every reboot without entering the default pin or password/pattern. But they also put a disclaimer that it's not safe.
Thanks for the info.. But one of the questions "Is the Pocophone F1" encrypted by default?" is not yet answered. I am very interested to know. And (while I am asking) if not, "How can I do encrypt it"?
Yes, it is encrypted by default.

Fingerprint Scanner is not responding in admin user but responds in user as guest

Hi everyone,
Currently, I am using Havoc os 2.5 which is a pie based custom rom in my xiaomi redmi not 4(mido). I always flash new custom roms but never happened this. Now I have a problem facing with the fingerprint scanner, when I placed finger to the fingerprint scanner to setup fingerprint lock or add a new fingerprint but it's not responding anything. this issue happens only in user as admin. If i switch user as guest or another user and try to setup fingerprint lock then it perfectly works.
please help me to fix this problem. Thank you
