I'm on the 5/27 nightly build of CM12.1 and phone isn't recognized when plugged into my PC (Win 8.1). I have the newest LG drivers, and when I boot into recovery (TWRP) I can access the internal and external SD fine, it is only when I am in CM that it won't connect to the computer. The only thing that happens is the phone recognizes that it is being charged.
I've tried multiple cables, but no luck there. Settings > Storage -> menu -> USB Computer Connection just results in a message saying "USB is now disconnected". I had the same results on the 5/26 nightly. I've disabled ADB debugging and even disabled developer's options and nothing.
EDIT: Something is borked with the CM install, did a factory reset and a fresh install of 5/27 nightly and it works as expected. Restored to nandroid backup of the same build and its broken.
Any suggestions would be appreciated, this is driving me nuts!
The only thing I can think is to make sure USB debugging is turned on in the developers options.

The option doesn't even appear in developer settings anymore.
Well you can root your phone and put on USB debugging but it would void your warranty what are the options under PC connection what i have heard for lg phones you have to have software for you PC is there an option to install pc drivers on the PC connection option in the settings menu

I have the same problem here. My lg not connect into usb....Nothing happens. How can I fix this?
This started happening to me recently. The only way I could get it to work is booting into recovery (TWRP).

i have the same problem too..seems that there is no solid fix for this...we have to reflash the rom..
download "usb mass storage enabler" form google play
Instead of flashing the rom you can use twrp recovery to mount the sd card to your pc while data cable is connected, then you will be able to transfer files between your phone and pc, if you wanna use usb debugging you can go for adb sideload or terminal in twrp recovery itself, remember its just a temporary solution for solid solution reflash the rom. Have a nice day..

Did you try a different usb port as well? I've never used kies, but its my understanding it comes with its own set of drivers. Did you install those? If not, give it a try. How its done though, I wouldn't know off the top of my head. On the other hand if you did install them, uninstall kies and/or the drivers, and other ones if you have them, reboot, and reinstall the drivers you knew to work the last time. Also try a different computer if you have access to one, and see if it works.
Edit: I just read through the thread again after having my morning coffee, and didn't see one item in particular mentioned. In your settings - applications - usb settings, are you set to mass storage mode?
Set usb settings to mass storage and tried but no luck

Phone Mounting
Not sure what ROM you are using but I had a similar issue. With stock Vibrant the phone would mount as two drives in both Windows and SUSE - no problems. After installing the Nero V5 ROM the other day I couldn't get the phone to mount as a drive in either SUSE or Windows. Both OSs could see the phone since tethering worked. After much searching in a few forums I couldn't get a clear answer about what was going on.
Turns out that in addition to the normal use of USB debugging mode I now had to turn on USB storage in the notification area. It always turned on automatically before and when plugging in a USB cable the notification said USB was connected but the drives weren't being automatically mounted. I think it is because the Nero ROM has built in tethering and you have to specifically select either tether of USSB mount after the cable is plugged in. I think this extra step that wasn't needed before (because tether wasn't a system option) is what is causing some of the problems. Just a guess but one that worked for me.
Even after selecting mass storage from the notification bar the drives are not appearing.
I am on stock froyo. Haven't been able to try in a different pc, will let u guys know after trying in a seperate pc.

This worked for me and it has worked do far.... go to settings, applications, USB settings, and enable Ask on connection.. then it asks select Kies... it usually took a couple of times but it always worked for me.
I had to go back to an older version of Kies to make it connect. Allow it to update the phone's firmware but not update Kies.

Try reloading Kies 1.5.3.10092_2 and be sure not to allow it to update itself automatically. This is the only way I have been able to get it to work with my Galaxy S (while running factory 2.1, rooted).
I just upgraded to the standard 2.2 (haven't rerooted yet) but haven't yet upgraded to a newer version of Kies to see if these changes to the phone will have any effect on this connection problem. Just like you, the phone seems to be detecting the connection properly, just Kies won't finish connecting.
DONT ENABLE OPTION ASK ON CONNECTION POUT IT ON MASS STORAGE , IF THIS DIDNT HELP AND YOU ARE NOT ON STOCK LAUNCHER LIKE TOUCH WIZ .....REINSTALL TOUCHWIZ AND RUN IT AS DEFAULT should help .
and if u are on 2.1 eclair u need touchwiz back to make yoooour phone discoverable by kies . hey .

suddenly i lost the usb connect with the pc. i cant use the usb mass storage. but previously there was no problem at all. now when i want to use the usb mass storage. i click "connect storage to pc" then plug in the usb cable. but after that nothing happened. the phone still showing "connect storage to pc". then i clicked it. it tells me to remove the cable... or just charging the phone. any advise on it? thank you so much.
PS. i am in vallianrom 2.4.2
This is so obvious that I'm sure you've already done it, but have you restarted your PC? If so, try it in a different USB port to rule out whether it's the PC or not.

I find in such cases a total removal of USB devices on that port followed by a removal of all Kies folders registry entries etc then reinstall works .

If it doesn't work on other PCs then it's more likely it's the phone that's the problem. If you have CWM or Titanium then I'd recommend doing a backup and doing a hard reset, just to see if it works after that.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A

Hi m8, I hate to say it, but I'm afraid that if by trying with another pc, the phone does not connect, you'll have to factory reset it. I had a similar problem and that was the only solution for me.

try:
settings - applications - development - untick usb debugging retick it and try again.
It's more likely to be a problem on your phone's usb...
I had this problem on my X10 and it would only charge but never connect to mass storage... The only solution was to send it to be serviced...
Meanwhile a good solution to transfer files to your phone is to use any wireless sync app.. Like sugarsync, dropbox or Awesome Drop.
I strongly recommend using Awesome Drop for small files... Just download the app on your phone, go to their website on your pc and simply drop the file on the designed space and it will be synced with ur phone...
Very fast and easy... I never connect my phone to my PC again for file transfer...
I wouldn't use it for large file transfers though... Even though I have successfully transfered a ROM (250mb), some people had problems transfering large files through Awesome Drop... I recommend dropbox or sugarsync for those...

Hey, Guys
My Xperia Sola has the ROM Slim-4.4.4. build 9.0. (Probably the Slim Rom)
When I connected my Xperia to my PC I accidentally unchecked the MTP and Mass Storage Mode via the navbar when it showed up. Now I can't change it back because it obviously doesn't show the notification. I tried searching for these Settings in the Settings --> Xperia ---> Connectivity but my ROM however doesn't even have the option "Xperia". I tried changing it back via an App from the play store but that didn't work out. Now I can't change it back and can't connect my phone to the pc. :/
Could you please help me? What should I do?
Forgot to say: I don't have any backup to restore it
I had the same problem on SlimKat 4.4.4. I solved it this way:
connect your phone to a PC. Go to settings>developer settings(if you don't have it, google for developer settings activate). Now search for USB deubugging. Try to uncheck it and see if phone is visible in My Computer. If no then check it again and see My Computer for phone. If no then uncheck it again. Phone storage should be visible in My Computer.
It worked on my phone Xpera sola. I haven't found better method for it because I installed SlimLP.
Good luck trying this.
I'm using the last xiaomi.eu ROM. I connect the Redmi Note 2 to the computer via USB but I can't access it as a mass storage device, it doesn't appear on "My computer". The only way to access it is through the Mi PC Suite but still not everything works and it only recognized it when I turned USB Debugging on. I've tried to install some drivers I found (it's pretty confusing to be honest) to no avail.
Can anyone help me solve this?
Thanks
Did you try to uninstall MI PC Suite - reboot - and install it again ?
i had this problems on other roms too, once i choosed charge only, i was not able to switch back to mtp, only reflashing the rom helps me out

That didn't solve anything, it's about the phone itself, not Mi Pc Suite.

Install quickshortcutmaker and go all the way to settings, there you must find external storage settings (where mtp and photo switches are, just hit test or try).
Hi everyone, i'm having an issue with my G5. I can't connect the smartphone to the PC with MTP mode, it only recharges. I tried to download and install drivers ( from the LG's website ) but the smartphone doesn't appear to the PC. What could i do?
is it in charging only mode?
if yes then go to Developer Options (if not enabled go to Settings > About phone > Software infor and tap Build number 5 times) and set your USB configuration to MTP

also did you try to uninstall drivers and install again

Yes i tried with another port, but nothing. Now i'm trying to uninstall drivers, will let you know.
Uninstalled all the drivers, and tried to install from zero, but nothing.
Edit: tried to insert a micro-sd in the smartphone, but nothing displayed on the PC. i'm also having a strange problem with the microphone: i haven't problem while i'm in a call, but it doesn't work sometimes when i'm on skype, facebook or whatsapp

When I got my S4 a few years ago I couldn't get my PC to properly recognize it at all. Ended up installing "PDAnet for Android" (free version) which in turn took care of all the correct drivers or something, but after that it worked fine.
When I got the G5 last month I didn't have to do anything (PDAnet is still installed, but not running/active) - I simply plugged it in and it worked.
Might be worth a shot for you? It's a small app and doesn't do anything if you disable it from starting up when Windows starts

I found out a simple way through sheer luck. Might work if its not working or for those who are having these problems.
So I noticed that the MTP driver wasn't installed AFTER I fixed the problem. So, once you have your phone to "transfer files" go to "devices and printers" on your Windows and you should find your LG phone under "Unspecified". Right click and go to properties. Then go to the hardware tab and update your driver from there. Make sure to update via online. Worked for me
I had this same problem. I switched USB mode from MTP to PTP, and it solved it.
This source agrees that LG devices need to be set to PTP, unlike all other Android devices: recovery-android.com/fix-android-file-transfer-mac.html
BTW: Did someone recognize, that some files are missing if connected to pc?
I have copied "all" files from ext. sd-card of my G5 to an external drive.
But as i had compared ext. sd-card with an external sd-card reader, there is a big difference of file count!!
It was the same effect, after copying files between int. mem and ext. sd! Sometimes this files are also not visible if connected to pc!
Could someone explain it to me?
