Hello,
My quetion is, how do I change a default app? I want to use power amp, but the built in music player always starts. I tried clearing the cache (even used titanium backup as I have root) but no luck. Im fairly new to android but love this phone over my old iphone
Thanks for any help!

Try going to Settings > Applications. Then click the "All" tab and find music and clear defaults for that program.
Tried it. Same result its actually grayed out now

Freeze or uninstall original music app?

Are you using a custom launcher? It might be that you just have a shortcut pointing to the default Music player.
No custom launcher. Im worried if I uninstall that the phone will no longer update. I read on this forum that the update performs a check on apps installed in the system folder. Can anyone confirm this? I would love to uninstall lol.

The default music player always starts when you do what? Click the music player icon?
Since you have Titanium Backup, look for Music and freeze it. Then reboot your phone. The music icon will be gone in the app drawer and it will be impossible to start the default app. If you ever need it again, unfreeze it with Titanium Backup.
Don't uninstall any system apps with Titanium Backup. As you said, problems might arise when it comes time to update. Freezing is fine because you can unfreeze.
If you're talking about the music icon on the home screens, press and hold the icon, you should be able to change what app it opens.
As an example, if I manually click on an mp3 I want poweramp to open but the default does. If I double tap home, the default player opens etc.

Lol now it says unable to open filetype after I froze the music app....WTF

Weird, so you're talking about clicking in an mp3 from the Files app right? For me it was also defaulting to Music. After I went to Application Settings and cleared defaults for Music, when I clicked on an mp3 again it popped up a dialog asking whether I wanted to open Doubletwist or Music.
Don't you get that choice?

Negative. I know, very strange

Maybe it's a problem with Poweramp not properly broadcasting itself as a music player. I just realized I have Cubed on my system and it didn't offer that as an option either. Maybe test it out using another app? Doubletwist works for sure. Use the demo to test whether it's an app problem or something else?

I just looked up some directions online, and someone, who also used PowerAmp, said they simply cleared the default and force closed the stock music app, then in the file manager clicked on an mp3 and the phone asked them to select a music player to use... None of my apps have the default selected currently, but I also can't make PowerAmp open when I select an mp3. Weird...
Lol I just installed doubletwist and it now auto launches this instead of poweramp. I reinstalled poweramp, same result. Funny thing is when poweramp is the only player, the icons next to mp3s match poweramp yet it still says unable to open file type..... WTF is going on???

Any ideas?

I think it just sounds like a problem with PowerAmp then...I remember being able to see the Poweramp logo next to my mp3's in the file app, but the guy a few posts above said he had that and it still didn't work. But either way, when I want to listen to music I don't usually open the file app and go look for the mp3 files on my SD card anyway so...so maybe it doesn't matter. Unless maybe the auto headset settings get screwed up if Poweramp isn't default?
Yeah I had the icon but it just doesn't want to load poweramp. My problem is that I want poweramp to replace functions such as the music button in car mode instead of having to add another shortcut for example. Or doubletap home....

I'm running stock, rooted, faux clock 0.0.6. I've downloaded Google music and after a few hours, it seems to not be able to find my music on my memory card. Any clues? Works fine at first and then when I try to open it later, NO MUSIC.
(I was having this issue on complete stock too.)

I'm having a similar issue with google music. It only recognizes the music on my sd card if i uninstall and then reinstall google music. It stops recognizing it the music on my sd card as soon as i restart my phone.
That's my exact problem. Any fixes.... Anyone?

So I've flashed stock jb roms. And the picture gallery and the video player app won't detect any video o photo before I flashed the Rom. I have to use quickpic to see my old pictures.
Anyone know how I can fix this?
Oh music isn't showing up either in the native music app

Go to application manager and clear data from Media Storage app..reboot..check if the pics are being shown..
Nope. I tried clearing the data in the medieval storage app and nothing pictures and videos won't show up in the gallery and video player native app

check if you have any .nomedia file in your pictures folder..enable the file explorer to see .(dot) file..if yes delete it and reboot..
This is the only option I can think of right now..
No there isn't any .nomedia files. It's really weird. And I've done factory resets. Permission fix and all wipes. And stuff..

I had this exact same problem only it was with my rooted Thunderbolt. Even now on my non-rooted Galaxy S3, I cannot view any of my old images from my external sd card (that used to be in the Tbolt) thru Gallery but still must use Quickpic. Wish I had a fix for it, its driving me crazy.

Hi noob here, I just updated my xp to jb and found that my gallery and music is empty... I checked on sd card from astro and its still all there, why didint.it.show?

It occurs generally when you update, because the 'media storage' app of system goes blank... So your phone's media apps can't recognize any media...
This can be solved by its own generally after some wipe data and reboot if you've updated via Seus or pc companion...
And you can find all your media via third party apps like quick pic, mx player etc...
