In the past, you could do that wiht KamMa's SMS backup program. But it no longer works on KitKat due to not being able to set itself as a default SMS app.

When you know nothing on the subject, it is always better to say nothing than to volunteer a useless and uninformed reply.

Hi! The last months I have a problem with my xperia arc. I don't recieve sms when I play games. Neither notification sounds nor vibration beats.. But there is not the only problem. Even when I exit the game, the message there is nowere. Neither in go sms pro nor in system messaging app. To anyone who sends me message the report goes normally. But Ι don't have any message. I use gosms pro and at the beginning I thought that the problem is on go sms. I unistalled it and installed handcent sms. The same problem.. Finally I unistalled both and the system app worked fine.. But I think that I can't use it. It has so few options. I'm sure that the problem isn't the carrier, because I have tried two different carriers. Finally note that I used 2.3.4 stock rom and root. I have upgraded to ICS but I disappointed and returned to 2.3.4....62. I talked about this problem to greek forum too, but no soloution founds.. I hope that someone could help me.
Thanks a lot!
Have you tried stock messaging app?

Yes, I tried it, I wrote it. It works fine the stock app, but I think that it has so few options.. For this reason I try to find another solution..
i have same problem, i flash another firmware, but after 1 2 3 month, problem return again
I sorry, I missed it. It must be that while you're running a game, the messaging app runs out of ram and gets killed. I dont know if it helps installing it as system, but I imagine system apps have priority over user apps.
I'm gonna asume you're rooted, so you can use the app Link2SD, which can 'convert' an user app into system app. Try that and report.
Oh you are keeping the stock SMS app right? I mean, you don't disable it, you just disable notifications?

Yes, I keep stock sms app and disable notifications. I tried to remove it with titanium backup and I kept only gosms pro, but the same broblem. So I installed it again. Now I will try the method that you suggest to me.. Thanks a lot anyway

I converted gosms pro to system app, but unfortunately the problem still exists.. Nothing changed. I hope there is another solution..
I wonder .. if I upgrade to the last version of ICS, could gosms works fine? I can't think nothing else and I can't undestand why I have this problem. I think that I had the same problem on my xperia x8 too..
Can someone make a flashable zip with the cm 10 sms app and whatever else is needed to make it work on the stock rom. I tried installing it to system/app, but it crases when sending an mms.... also the black theme built into it didnt work. I hate the fact that the stock sms app sends out slideshows instead of pictures.
It could require a mod of the framework. What do you like about the cm10 msg app and maybe there's an msg app on Google play that someone could suggest.

It requires considerable modding of framework, yes.
Unless you use the ICS messaging app.

By ics message app, are you refering to the one that was included in the factory build of ics? I just want to be able to send mms without sending the images as a slideshow. I was looking at the comments for go messenger and people seemed to have trouble with mms in that app. I figured I would be better off trying to get an oem app.

JB messaging app should work too on Beans. I modded the framework for him and assume he added it in.

Thanks I will give it a try.
It works, thanks a lot
Every time I send a group message, it comes out as Anonymous. Also if I send a message to a different group it would still be under the Anonymous thread. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks
I'm guessing you are using an international base rom. There is no fix, and I just recommend switching SMS if you need it that bad, like gosms

I use other apps for group messaging.
if you use fb a lot you can just integrate your sms into the app.
It really depends, but I think most people now use a few SMS apps... but it changes so frequently depending on the app popularity.

Sliding Messaging is a nice replacement and the Dev seems very very dedicated to updating and upgrading it.

Thought i might share this for those interested, download this https://app.box.com/s/vh0m2xvwcq3ljt1qqtem
use root explorer rename LGmessage.apk and LGmessage.odex both to .bak
Rename mms.apk to LGMessage ( not sure if renaming matters)
reboot and the message app works perfect! quick reply, etc.
DARK THEME for quick reply will not work.
Has this file been modified to work with MMS/Group messaging?

I mean, does it work?
CM's MMS.apk needs to be modified to work with each device's Telephony code, so unless it is pulled from another device that pretty exactly mirrors the LG G2 code, it won't work.
i dont know i never ever use it lol
and i did not know that.
try and find out ?
just download 8sms from google play, its basically the cyanogenmod mms.apk with quickreply and all the good stuff. Textra sms it's really good too, I like textra sms more though.

Holy moley. Never knew about 8SMS. All I ever ask for in any SMS program is a Mark As Read from the notification drop down. This is perfect.
This works on the vzw version, although the names are a bit different... LGUSMms.bak and .odex This is great, I hated how little of the conversation you could see with the stock app.

CM mms.apk causing phone to crash
I just installed the mms.apk onto my rooted Nexus 4 and followed installation instructions perfectly, but now the app crashes every time I receive a text. Can someone offer a suggestion how to fix this issue or how to revert back to stock messenger, which doesn't appear to be on the phone anymore (the CM apk replaced it)? I know this isn't the correct forum but I am just hoping someone can help with this. Thanks for the help.
did anyone confirm if this works on ATT lg g2

Are u on a custom rom or just stock rooted?
Sent from my VS980 4G using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Hey,
I've noticed whenever I use a new ROM and restore from a update.zip (with all apps, data..etc) there are a few problems...
1) Applications restore correctly, but Accounts, Wi-Fi Access points...etc do not... I have to boot into the ROM and restore them via TitaniumBackup.
2) Restored applications work, but some don't start on Launch like Whatsapp, Viber, Facebook, Facebook Messenger but applications like Dropbox, Skype (autorunner), GMail, Yahoo Mail do and every single one of these apps has been ran once manually. If I used Xposed and "Bootmanager" I can visually see that they should run on launch as it says they are going to however they don't. The only way I can get them to run at launch is to uninstal the application and reinstall it manually (thus losing my data for the app, as restoring the data only doesn't work)
Any ideas, suggestions or fix's?
Thanks
