When not to update a free app? - Galaxy Tab S Themes and Apps

Have you noticed you will be using an free app and everything is great, and then you check for updates and the free app update says some thing about adverts or the pro version not having adverts when the only version was the free version as far as you were aware off, so if you do update, will you now be hit with a load of adverts and you app will now be classed as the free not pro version.
It does my head in, I always check the update change log before i do any update, and most apps only seem to do an update to make them money.
Is there a way to stop apps from updating, if they are working fine for you, then why update.
On a side point, I remember buying the pro version of dice player and than a couple of weeks later it went totally free.

To stop an app from auto updating, simply just go to the app in Google play store and hit the three dots on the top right and untick auto update.

I am not as worried about ads and other annoyances like that but I just went in to the google play store and turned off all auto updates since unless there is a new feature I care about why fix something that is not broken. I have had updates cause issues before so I just only updates if and only if I either need to or there is a compelling reason to updates.
