Hi All! After huge search in the forum i found the guides scattered ,so i decided to put it in 1 thread helping all the newbies to install custom rom.
PROCEDURE INVOLVED
1.DOWNGRADING YOUR PHONE TO 2.2
2.ROOTING THE PHONE
3.CUSTOM RECOVERY
4.A2SD SUPPORT (NOT MANDATORY)
5.FINALLY INSTALLING CUSTOM ROM
I WILL GUIDE YOU THROUGH ALL THE PROCESS IN DETAIL
GREAT NEWS : NO NEED DOWNGRADING JUST USE THE APK IN THE LINK AND ROOTING IS DONE IN ANDROID 2.2.1 AND LATER STILL I AM KEEPING THE DOWNGRADING DETAILS IF IT DOESNT WORK FOR SOME
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
INSATALLATION PROCEDURE :
here are the procedure to install gingerbread root.
-copy all files from sd card to pc(backup)
-now format sd card fat32
-place the gingerbread apk 1.20 in sd card.
-now enable usb debugging settings-application-development -usb debugging (check the box)
-install gingerbread apk using file manger .
-press root and wait .the phone will reboot if it doesnt wait fr some time and see -if it works if not remove ur battery and reinsert ,switch on check if u have superuser icon in application.
INSTRUCTION ARE PROVIDED IN THE ABOVE LINK TOO AND IF THIS APK ROOT YOUR PHONE THEN NO NEED TO DOWNGRADE AND ROOT USING Z4ROOT AVOID BOTH THE STEPS OF DOWNGRADING AND ROOTING USING Z4ROOT PROCEED WITH INSTALLING CUSTOM RECOVERY
First remove nokia drivers or other phone drivers, nokia pc suite, microsoft visual ++ runtime environments installed in pc
Install lg pc suite http://www.multiupload.com/3YHPSRS4Z0 (NEW PHONE BUYERS WILL BE HAVING PC SUITE IN SD CARD PROVIDED BY LG)
Disable LGE VIRTUAL MODEM in device manager (RIGHT CLICK ON COMPUTER- SELECT MANAGE-DEVICE MANGER-SELECT LGE VIRTUAL MODEM-RIGHT CLICK AND DISABLE)
Download the rom file and keep it in a folder
Download kdz updater http://www.multiupload.com/OZTKT703D5
Extract the KDZ file in a folder
Install msxml
Remove sd card
Change your phone display timeout to maximum (settings-display-screen timeout 30 min) and your pc screen saver to 30 min
Connect ur phone to pc make sure u have usb debugging enabled (settings-application-development-check usb debugging)
Run KDZ_FW_UPD.exe (run as adminstrator)
Select Type:3GQCT | Phone mode: DIAG
Choose kdz file v10B from the option menu (THE FOLDER WHERE U DOWNLOADED THE FILE)
Click launch software update.
Wait for flashing to finish.
After the flashing is over the phone will reboot and if the phone doesnt get switch on just manually switch on the phone pressing the power button.
When the phone boots up just check the version is 2.2 then detach the cable from pc
INCASE IF FLASHING FAILS JUST TRY EMERGENCY/CS EMERGENCY(last option) AND TRY REFLASHING AGAIN
ALERT: Charge ur phone to 100 % and dont forget to disable LGE virtual modem, dont disconnect ur phone from pc until your phone boots up completely . If u want to backup contacts just enter into contacts and press menu-import export-export to sd card(u can restore ur contacts later just the same way choosing import contacts from sd card
FLASHING TIME :5 TO 10 MIN
I WONT BE RESPONSIBLE IF YOUR PHONE GETS BRICK WHILE THE FLASHING PROCESS AS FLASHING PROCESS HAS A HIGH RISK OF BRICKING THE PHONE,BUT IF YOU HAVE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTION CAREFULLY THEN EVERYTHING WOULD GO FINE.
FOR BRICKED PHONE CHECK THIS THREAD http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883314 (BIG THANKS TO ERROR FOR THE GUIDE)
Download z4root from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
Turn on mass storage and copy the z4root apk to the root of your sd card
Use file manager and choose the z4root apk and install.
Open z4root from applcation menu and click permanent root.
Now the phone will reboot and it will get rooted check for superuser icon in ur application menu.
IF U FIND THE SUPERUSER ICON IT MEANS YOUR PHONE HAS GOT SUCCESSFULLY ROOTED
INSTALLING ANDROID SDK IN ORDER TO USE ADB

ADD ON: FOR CHANGING RECOVERY USE THE FLASH RECOVERY IMAGE FROM HERE http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065197
get a2sd file here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=715940 from this thread
boot into recovery
select partition sd card
choose swap size 0 mb,ext partition 512mb (IF U HAVE A LARGER SPACE SD CARD MAKE EXT 1024 MB)
select sd ext2 to ext3 (STABLE TO USE EXT3 PARTITION)
select sd ext3 to ext4(be careful in choosing this option as the rom should support ext 4)
finish with the setup
mount sd card and transfer the a2sd file to sd card
unmount sd card
select install zip from sd card choose the a2sd file and flash
reboot
NOTE: USE A2SD ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE A CLASS 6 SD CARD(RECOMMENDED),U CAN USE IT IN CLASS 4 SD TOO BUT SOMETIMES IT CREATES PERFORMANCE ISSUE IF U DONT HAVE A CLASSS 6 OR HIGHER SD CARD.
HOW TO KNOW THE CLASS OF SD CARD- JUST CHECK ON THE CARD IT MUST BE PRINTED ON A CIRCLE DESIGN, IF U DONT HAVE ANYTHING WRITTEN IT MUST BE CLASS 2 | AVOID USING A2SD IF U HAVE A CLASS 2 SD CARD IT MIGHT RESULT IN BIG PERFORMANCE ISSUE
IF YOU FIND YOUR PHONE INTERNAL SPACE DECREASING IS JUST BECAUSE OF THE DALVIK CACHE.IF YOU WANT TO MOVE DALVIK CACHE TO SD CARD ,OPEN TERMINAL EMULATOR OR ADB AND TYPE
su
a2sd cachesd (move dalvik to sd card)
a2sd cachesdreset (move dalvik to sd card and clears contents of dalvik-cache)
a2sd cachepart (move dalvik to cache partition)
a2sd cachepartreset (move dalvik to cache partition and clears contents of dalvik-cache)
Boot into clockwork recovery.
go to backup and restore -create a backup of your current rom (Note:If already backup has been done then avoid this step, backup created using amonra or thunderg wont support restoring using clockwork)
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe dalvik cache
mount and storage-format system
go to mount and storage-format sd card
advanced-partition sd card-choose 512 mb (preferable)or 1024 mb (it automatically creates ext 4 partition, class 6/4 is preferred)
mount and storage-mount usb storage (make sure usb debugging is enabled)
copy the rom zip file to the root of your sd card
unmount
install zip from sd card-choose the rom zip and install
flashing takes 3-5 min
reboot
IF U WANT A2SD AND TWEAKS TO BOOST PERFORMANCE CHECK POST 2.TO BE PERFORMED JUST AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW ROM

don't you think we already have enough guides over here?
Kindly remove the installation of custom recovery via adb. Show it via terminal emulator. Its hassle free and from phone only.
Also attach the recovery 1.2 here. Also guide the user to unzip it.
Also attach darktremor script here.

thanks for your suggestion i will look into it as whatelse info can be provided and regarding terminal emulator it has been described by eichos quite nicely. So i will see if I want to update that orelse provide the link rather and regarding unzipping it already has been mention to extract the file to sd card
This guide is wonderful, I was just about to post on another thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=844483 how they should try an clean it up a lil, it is quite a mess over there. My P509 should be here on 4/20/11, cant wait to get started since I already know it is coming preloaded with 2.2.1(1st time Android user coming from 5 year stint with WinMo). Ive been researching the P509 for about 2 months(4-8 hours a night) here on the Android side of XDA, and it has been a journey, anyway your guide will definately help the average noob, in my case I really appreciate the lessons I got from browsing through the different threads and forums associated with this phone. All in all best guide Ive seen so far really sums it up.
Neat guide. I'd suggest one tiny thing. Its not really mandatory to install the adb. Mentioning that as an optional would keep things clear

I really would like to believe the above mentioned statement and that you missed my thread [HOWTO] Rooting, Installing - Android SDK, Custom Recovery, Custom ROM's dealing with the same topics except for the fact that we exchanged multiple PM's during your attempt at following the instructions given in my post.
This post feels like an abridged and in certain respects incomplete version of my above mentioned post in most places except for the a2sd part which I chose not to include as certain ROM's include a2sd by default.
Anyway, I appreciate your attempt to help out newbies.

Moved to general, has there are some threads already in dev section for help.
Cheers
Hey flashing d new rom, flashes new kernal also or it jst flashes a new rom ?
Sent from my LG-P500
It depends on what the developer has included - a new kernel or stock kernel.
Usually custom ROMs come with a modified kernel because there are improvements compared to the stock one.

just check the rom u r installing and it must be mention in changelog whether the devleoper has included the kernel or not but most of the time the kernel is included , if u are not satisfied with the kernel rather u can try diffrent kernels available over here in xda

sorry to say mr charlie that u have edited a lot of stuff in your post LATER and have put the information correctly in order and describing it properly ,its true that your thread helped me which is this 1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12006447&postcount=61 and the 1 u pointed out but as i said it was scattered and not properly arranged orelse i wouldnt have taken an initiative to write. no harsh feeling it was just my attempt to help others so no use promoting your thread let the newbies decide which they want to follow.
there was minor flaws in your thread which landed me in bricking my phone but but thanks to error for his guide .It was the ultimate saviour for me and for many might be.
i have just put in all information in order and removed unwanted writings.
STILL GOOD TO HEAR U LIKED MY EFFORT
well! the best explained thread for installing custom rom
very well organised, followed it and now using cm7 GREAT
thank you
This is a very useful guide for me who is very new to android. Its always important to have less complicated guide with updated methods every now and then for the newbies. Good work.
A few questions though. How important is it to remove visual C++ from my PC? I can see many versions of it installed on it by default (I never installed it myself). I am afraid removing it might mess up other programs on my PC. Also isn't the default Gingerbread app2sd enough to run apps from the sd card? What additional features does Darktremor have?

its not that important as i myself have it installed c++ 2005,2008 but somtimes it might block flashing that why its suggested to do so,as for a2sd many rom has is pre installed but some requires flashing a2sd as for fransisco tweaks it helps in sustaining battery so i am not so worried about it as mik cm7 for me seems to be stable but i am looking forward for ungaze contribution to xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1042828 as using this really makes our phone perform to next level just waiting for his updates..

using the 32 bit mode is preferable just remove those as it wont hamper any performance on ur pc. it will get automaticallly updated from some software or games while installing so no worries on removing .

Don't know the specific device but when running into similar issues I usually do the following
1 back up everything
2 back those backups up somewhere other than the SD
3 reformat the SD with the device you intend to use it for
4 check if re-partitioning is needed
4a if not then; skip to 5
4b if so then; re-partition and go to 5
5 check that things seem ok, try moving an app to SD, try reading/writing/deleting a few junk files
6 if all is ok then move backed up data back to SD card and chock it up to the oddness of electronics, if all is not ok then perhaps your ROM or kernel or device has something sooooo check for bug reports on the sites that you get those from and or check the lists of features.
Currently I run cm 7 on my HTC device and have a multi-partition set up on the SD card, no issues other than Android only seeing the first one in the list.

I've written a few guides here and there, if you search hard enough you'll find one about
Folders plug
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502893
that I wrote once about that app... I think so anyways if not then here is a quickey to save time for all readers that stumble across this work around
1. Get some warnings out of the way
~ this app is in beta (currently)
~ requires root
~ use at your own risk
~ don't use on system apps (like your phone or contacts)
~ don't use on apps that you rely on (anti theft apps for example)
~ I'm not the dev of the app just a supporter
~ make a backup (nandroid style) then back all that up and what ever you value on you sdcard somewhere else
~ I've done some hard testing with this app and put two devices into boot loops / simi-bricked states. So know how to recover from this and be careful.
~ I have yet to fully brick any device ever, even with this app, so it might be safe when used properly.
2. Provided the warnings don't bother you, then download and install the above app
3. Open the app and be presented with a few options
~ under menu + Preferences = Mount on boot
~~ I would not use this until playing with the other options first and seeing how your device responds
~ under menu + Edit = a screen that will say something like "no mount points selected"
~~ this is where the magic happens, move to step 4
4. Under 'menu + Edit'
4a~ now press menu and then "Insert"
~ this is where things may be confusing
4b~ For source folder you may want to make a new folder on your sdcard with an app like root browser (hint this app comes bundeled with ROM Toolbox; another fantastic app) I put mine under '/sdcard/Adev/Internal_Spoof/' and then make a new folder path per app from there
4c~ For Target folder things get a bit complex; you've got to find the folder on the device's internal folder structure (root browser for the win on this again) that contains the apps data.
... be back to edit the rest in in a sec, just posting to ensure you know I'm still here
5. Before finalizing any links you should probably back up the app data somewhere else too. For example '/sdcard/Adev/Internal_Spoof/backups/'
6. So you've got a good target for both now there are more options.
6a~ you can press accept and then press and hold on the connection you've just made and then select mount
6b~ or after setting a bunch up the main screen with the red plug icon can be pressed like a button to activate all the ones in the list that have a green check box next to it at once.
7. Once you've tested this... for example I used;
~ for Source I used '/sdcard/Adev/Internal_Spoof/download
~ for Target I used '/data/download'
And kinda get what's going on here and know where you app data is saved (hint I think mine is under '/data/data' but yours maybe different) it's time to make it useful for your quest for more space to install apps (among other things too maybe?)
7b~ so if an app like Pandora is under 'data/data/com.pandora' and you map it like so--
~ source '/sdcard/Adev/Internal_Spoof/Pandora'
~ target 'data/data/com.pandora'
-- and back the data from '*/com.pandora' to '*/Internal_Spoof/Pandora' and then activate the link... then nothing will look different... except when you view the available space that its
8. Rinse and repeat for each app and don't forget to copy the data (otherwise it'll brake the app till you un-link and copy the data ) and remember not to do it to certain apps.
9. Once you've verified that it's all good and your apps run with ok levels of lag you can try testing the "mount on boot" option that I told you not to use yet. If it works after a reboot then opening and interacting with the affected apps, then rebooting again and interacting again and rebooting again, then it's time to do something dangerous...
10. Provided that your with me so far and things are good on your device its time to do the risky bit; deleting the data from 'data/data/com.pandora' and running it strait from sdcard and re-testing for broken apps with a reboot.
This will effectively open real system memory back up for other tasks but like I said use at your own risk.
final edit before seeing any feedback- this work around may seem a bit complex at first but once you've got a list of apps that work when short-cutted like this it can make a big difference in how much available space can be accessed, however, this may cause force closures on some apps, and may degrade the life of your sdcard. Furthermore in some usage scenarios I had better battery life but that's for another guide on another day
I'll be linking in a google doc version of this guide when I get it shairable and maybe link in screen shots or screen casts for better guidance. If I've really helped then consider hitting the thanks button and happy hacking and modding.

Q&A for [TOOL][NABI2] NabiLab - Root, Play, Recovery
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [TOOL][NABI2] NabiLab - Root, Play, Recovery. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
State of Nabi 2 Root as of 12/14?
So I have admittedly been out of the loop on the state of rooting my two Nabi 2s since after I restored them to stock and all back last year when they released the update that included the Gapps. So I've been running stock since then and am on the latest firmware (2.4.6 I believe). All is mostly fine, but I would really like to get the external SD cards to be writable again, and from what I can tell, I need root again to do that.
So...as of today...what is the state (and best procedure) of rooting the Nabi 2 on the latest OTA update? Is Nabi Lab still the best tool? From what I've pieced together from scattered threads, it's looking like possibly use Nabi Lab to install TWRP, and then use that to install the SuperSU (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053). However, I could likely be wrong...hence why I'm asking.

Nabilab will still work as long as you use a version with a Jellybean TWRP(since you are on 2.4.6).

Stock Restore
Hi
I have downloaded NabiLab, as I am having wifi issues on my updated Nabi2. I unzipped, ran the .bat and chose option 3 (with my nab connected via USB). Nothing happened, no errors etc, the screen flashed up and shut down. Do I need to do something with the Nabi (recovery mode etc), do I need to install anything from NabiLab before trying this? Any help would be appreciated

What version of software? Use Nabilab2015 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59073456&postcount=2544
It has more diagnostic info. Just be in Android or TWRP with ADb enabled. It also can see if drivers are loaded.
Hacking Nabi2 to Allow Data2SD
I managed today to hack my kids Nabi2 to enable Data2SD. I was to frustrated by the limited space in the tab. My kids were complaining about not being able to add more games. Thus, I decided to take the risk of modifying the mount points of the tab to allow the data partition to point to a partition in a large sdcard, instead of the limited 4.5 GB space in the internal storage.
Warning: I am not responsible of any damage as a result of following the next steps. Always make backups
Note: I have the last update (KitKat) installed in the Nabi2
1- Dump the boot image from an adb shell:
Code:
su
cat /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/LNX > /sdcard/boot.img
2- Open this url http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images
to see the instructions of how to unpack and repack the boot image. Note that, the splitimage script mentioned in the page can be found at https://gist.github.com/jberkel/1087743
Warning: do not do anything in the tutorial, just wait
3- Format an sdcard as one partition of ext4 type
4- Insert the sdcard in the nabi2
5- Use the tutorial in step 2 to extract the ramdisk contents from the boot image and then Modify the file "fstab.mt799" in the ramdisk folder by replacing the line
Code:
/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/UDA /data ext4 noatime,nosuid,nodev,journal_async_commit,data=writeback,nodelalloc,errors=panic wait,check,encryptable=/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/MDA
with
Code:
/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.0/by-num/p1 /data ext4 noatime,nosuid,nodev,journal_async_commit,data=writeback,nodelalloc,errors=panic wait,check,encryptable=/dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/MDA
which switches the data partition mount point to be on the sdcard
and the line
Code:
/devices/platform/sdhci-tegra.0/mmc_host/mmc2 auto vfat defaults voldmanaged=sdcard1:auto
with
Code:
/devices/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/mmc_host/mmc0 auto vfat defaults voldmanaged=sdcard1:12
which mount your old data partition into the directory of the external sdcard
6- Repack the boot image as mentioned in the url in step 2
7- Copy the new boot image to the nabi2 sdcard
8- Once you copied the new boot image (e.g. new_boot.img), replace the current boot image with the new one using adb shell:
Code:
su
cat /sdcard/new_boot.img > /dev/block/platform/sdhci-tegra.3/by-name/LNX
9- Now the kernel is replaced and once you rebooted your external sdcard would be in use, but note that your device is now having an empty data partition on the external sdcard, so you have to setup everything from the beginning. Note also that your previous data partition is now mounted as an sdcard, however, you have to format it from ext4 to fat32 to work as an sdcard (you can do the format from setings->storage->sdcard format)

If you are not sure which line to change, I have the fstab.mt799 file attached with this post. You can simply replace your file with this one.

If you don't have the time to do all these steps, I have the modified boot file attached here.
Yo can either follow steps 7 and 8 above to write it, or use the fastboot command as follows:
Code:
fastboot flash boot new_boot.img

Hi, I purchased a reconditioned Nabi, which was reset back to stock. The wifi worked fine, until I updated it through the tablet. I am now on version 2.0 with no wifi. I have tried various options through NabiLab , however my Nabi is not recognised as being connected (although windows picks it up). Please help!
Swipe to restore
I am trying to return my nabi to stock, i can get to the screen that asks you to 'swipe to restore' but the screen is not responding. I dont have issues with the touchscreen normally

That's weird...if you keep messing with it you may find a spot a little left, right, higher, or lower where you can grab the button to swipe....or you try to re-flash TWRP or maybe there's a new version of TWRP for your particular nabi software version.
did you ever get nabilab to see it? did you check the device manager to see if it was totally recognized? Are developer options enabled?

The Nabi is showing as a device, it's responds as it should up to the point of TWRP. I had to repeatedly press buttons to get to the restore swipe and have tried many times, unsuccessfully. Where do I enable developer options?
I am on version 2 (Nabi) and using the most up-to-date version of NabiLab. I am trying to restore to stock so that the software version goes back, as the update has stopped my wifi working. Even a factory reset doesn't take the Nabi software back further than v2.0

For developer options you go to settings, scroll all the way down, if you don't see "Developer options" there, press About tablet, then repeatedly tap build number until it pops up and says "You are now a developer!", then go back and now you should see the Developer options menu item, press it and then make sure it's on at the top and that the USB Debugging option is checked.....then try nabilab again.

Yes this is enabled, as without it I am unable to run nabilab etc. The problem is TWRP & the version of software I am running on the tablet?

Well, the touch issues are probably due to a bad build of TWRP but not necessarily the wrong one. The problem with nabilab not being able to see the tablet I think has to be drivers. Have you checked device manager to make sure there are no unrecognized things? 'cause the tablet show up as two separate things in there and it sounds like the USB storage part is working but not the adb and/or fastboot part(s).

I've managed to sort the drivers by installing PDANet, then managed to sort TWRP by installing an older version. I've now updated to 2.1 on the Nabi but no luck with the wifi issue..i'm guessing it's really broken and it happening whilst updating may have been a coincidence?!

It might just be broken but that's a heck of a coincidence... Do you have a backup from before the wifi issue started? If so, I'd try to thoroughly wipe everything but your external sd card and then restoring your backup and see if that helps.

Hi, I bought it as a reconditioned did unit. Turned it on, updates it (wifi worked) and then had this problem, so no backup to go back to unfortunately
Hi all,
After spending many hours trawling the internet, and especially this forum I still am having problems getting ANY custom rom I've tried booting on this phone
I know it's old, but it's just a phone I had lying around and want to use it as a small tablet for my 6yo daughter.
I can flash any "stock" rom I've found with odin, but when flashing using an install from an SD card through CWM, it just hangs on the Samsung bootscreen.
CWM installs as the default recovery console, so something is going on the phone, but it won't boot to android.
Oh I'm also using a 5830I rom, but my research has shown this is basically the same phone?
I've used CM7 and tried lots of other custom roms with the same outcome - please can anyone help!?
My daughter is dying to use her new games machine, but the stock rom is sooooo laggy and slow it's no good at all!
Thanks in advance.
@macsbig, "About device" information from settings of your device please < home+power button for screenshots > or kindly state the full details here.
Your original CSC/PDA/MODEM parts of your device <Dial *#1234# >
Your Region /Country/ carrier you are staying please.
Thanks for the reply ehsanotaku!
PDA : S5830iXXLA4
PHONE : S5830iXXLA2
CSC : S5830iOXXLA2
I'm in the uk. This is not the original rom (that got stuck in a bootlock) and the only way to get the 'phone working again was to flash with a stock rom from the internet.
The original rom was from "Three".
During my various attempts at flashing a rom I have ticked the "re-partition" box and tried both "cooperve_0623.pit" and totoro_0623.pit
I've flashed my P5110 tablet, and a Galaxy S1 for my son with no problems - odd!
@macsbig, How come you are ended up with outdated ( 2012 ) s5830i in the first place ? Any particular problems with your s5839i original firmware ( do you know your original CSC/PDA/MODEM parts ) ? Are you absolutely sure this is not re-branded version ( "About Device" info of the original phone would be nice to see though ) Did you take any Nandroid back up of all of the original partitions of your s5839i through temporary CWM zip file ( files will be stored inside your Clockworkmod directory inside the root of the SD card )
Do you still have access to Recovery stock e3 console and Download mode ?
Another important subject in need of clarification are ".pit" files ( partition table info ) and Re-partition option. Playing around with wrong .pit file such as totoro and incorrect usage of Re-partition will lead into hard bricking of your device .
Since you already did modify partition table couple of time partially without success , I would suggest the following process :
1. Download one of the newest non wipe xxx.tar.md5 s5830i firmware from here < It is free, but registration is required > Probably 2013 xxMD1 is the right one for our experiment.
2. Make your wipe flash able zip package through splitfus2 tutorial provided here, my comment @ post 9 or simply you may use European/Russian pre-made package from here , your choice though ( I would advise the first method , but the latter also will work ) .
3.Get the following files:
3.1 - Odin3.v3.07.Cooperve.exe from either places would be fine : 1 , or any sticky post in general/development section will do ( correct cooperVe .pit file will be resided inside the package )
3.2- Get the Temp-CWM 5.0.2.6 or 5.0.2.8 zip file from here or here < put the zip file inside the root of your SD card for flashing later >
3.3- Boot loader <DefaultCalDataWithBoot_S5830iXXLB1_REV00.tar.rar from post#27 , my attachment .
3.4 - SLIM_CM7.2_Cooperve #4 Rom < put it inside the root of SD card >
3.5- This kernel is also goes into Root of SD card for later usage .
3.6- EXT4 Formatter Tool , into the root of SD card again.
4- Now , if you don't have proper drivers installed inside your Windows PC , you can get then form here .
Ok, assuming you have at least access to Download mode , provided the combo keys work (pressing Vol(+) + Vol(-) + Power Keys) Go there according to manual :
-Power off your Phone.
-Get into "Download mode" by pressing Vol(+) + Vol(-) + Power Keys.
-press volume up
-Open Odin3.v3.07.Cooperve.exe
-Connect your phone to PC via USB cable.
-Make sure that your phone is detected in "ID:COM" area.
- Put your wipe PDA/CSC/MODEM/ boot loader/pit files into their proper places , Re-partition is ticked , Factory reset and reboot selected by default >> push the START !
- DO NOT disconnected nor disturb the flashing Nand process , until the process being terminated . Now you must be out of boot loop .
For completing our partition conversion and also put some cm7.2 custom Rom into the test at the same time , do the following :
- Boot into stock e3 recovery >> wipe data and flash your Temp CWM
- CWM > wipe data > wipe cache > wipe Dalvik cache
- Flash the EXT4 Formatter tool, so whole system will be converted to EXT4. (Stock filesystem is RFS).
- Flash kernel_CM7_v4.0_cooperVe .
- When the Kernel is installed, go to the advanced menu --> "reboot recovery" (this will reboot the device, thus you will be directed into your new CWM built-in, which is implanted inside Kernel ).
- Wipe data, cache and Dalvik
- Go to "mounts and storage", and make sure /system partition is mounted (will show -unmounted ; it is like ON/OFF switch)
- Main menu > "Install zip from SD Card" > choose "zip from SD card" and install the ROM, you have already got inside your SD <SLIM_CM7.2_Cooperve #4>
- Reboot
waiting for some good news ............
It's a long story, but here goes!
I had a couple of old phones we no longer use hanging around the house, so I thought it would be good to let my (young) children use them as simple games playing deivices. It doesn't matter too much if the phone is dropped and damaged etc, as I probrably wont use them for anything else as we have new phones.
Within a couple of days - and I'm not sure what happened, my daughters phone was stuck in a boot loop (samsung and "Three" logos repeatedly). Having no experiance of "unbricking" phones I immediately reached for google, and set out on my quest to sort out her phone for her (as we had lots, and lots of tears over her new toy!). The phone has no sim card in and is on wifi for installs etc.
After searching I found a rom that would load on and make the phone good again, this one: S5839iXXLK2_S5839iH3GLC2_S5839iNELK1_HOME.tar.md5
This worked ok, but was very laggy, and irritated me imensely as I was sorting games etc for her, so I decided to to instal a custom rom. After 3 roms refused to load (just stuck on the "Samaung GALAXY Ace GT-S5839i boot screen) I decided to try flashing it to 5380i firmware and Pit file - as nearly all custom roms for the ace seem to be for the 5830i variant - I wondered if this would sort my problem!
It didn't! But now it has become a challenge, and a chance to learn something of Android and how it works - as I said in my last post I have successfully flashed an I9000 with carbon and my P5110 with CM11, I learnt how to do this by what I've learnt from reaserching about this phone, so it has been a worthwhile excercise!
But back to the point. No I don't have any back-ups of the original phone, I neither had the knowlege, or know how of having or needing to do this - it's only now I'm finding my phones/tablets so facinanting!!
Yes I am now back to the stock (e3) recovery, which I can get into.
Many thanks for your help so far - I will try your ideas and repeort back!
@macsbig, Yes do that please and after resolving your initial problems , here is a confirmed list of the games compatible with your GPU/CPU of your child's legacy device . Also you can use chainfire 3d only under stock firmware/rooted phone for the games required plugin(s) and app being activate for proper almost lag free experience . You may read theses links as well for some insight : 1 , 2 .

Well , researching a new area of knowledge ( in this case customization/rooting/bricking/moding and many more technical things inside XDA) can be a bit overwhelming.I do agree with you that the sheer wealth of material means that it can be overwhelming, but more you read and spend time @ XDA, more you will get the hang of the material presented here .
Nevertheless we are here to share/help all of the possible/working solution mate. Just ask anything you can not understand very well . I will try to depict even more detailed walk-through guidelines.
Regards
Right, I now have a custom rom on the 5839i!
I didn't have too much time last night, so what I did was flashed the phone with Odin, using the bootloader and pit file you specified. I then rebooted into the stock revovery, wiped the Data, Cache and Delvic partitions, then booted into CMW 5.0.2.6 and flashed the EXT4 Formatter tool. I then installed the kernel you specified
After that I rebooted into the CMW recovery from the new kernel and followed your instructions - and Voila! It booted into the slim rom you linked me too
Just to test it wasn't a fluke, I then installed CM9, and that went on fine too - with just the normal steps.
I now have to decide after your other advice, whether I go for a stock rom, and try and get rid of the lag, use chainfire 3D etc or go for a custom mod!
Is there a similar app for modded roms's like chainfire 3D to help game perfomance on this limited hardware? I'd really prefer to use a modded rom and build up from there, but as I stated earlier in the post, this will be used only for games and listening to music from youtube, so i'll maybe have to research some more to find out what would work the best.
Many, many thanks for your help, I've learnt alot during this project!!
Oh as a bit of an aside, got a bit worried when downloading some of the links, some of the "download managers" were causing my anti-virus and anti-malware software to give me warnings!
Thanks again
@macsbig, Glad everything worked out for you mate . To address your concerns I must say that I did not come across any working solution for accelerating your GPU with reduction [email protected] custom Roms unfortunately ( only works on stock fw/rooted device) .
For CM9 beta Rom available @ development sub forum , this is an unstable Rom with some serious problems , because of ICS bugs an other things( Read this troubleshooting session and links provided there ).
For malware's concerns they are mostly false positives . Even virus total wold miss lead you in many cases, due to nature of advertising agent implanted inside some of the app inside system directory of custom Roms . You can simply replace the app in question with another one free of adverts. However they are harmless mostly. Please read this discussion (post #472-475) (post#291-298) between me and moderators team for more information about advertisement policies. Basically we have a very good control over materials presented here , thanks to mod teams .
Hope I did help you with your quest
My apologies, when I said that I was getting anti-virus/malware warnings, that was aimed at when I was trying to download the files on "mediafire(?)" and such like. They want you to install a stupid downloader etc., which then installs some crap on your pc.
Had it when downloading splitfus2 if I recall correctly (it was late 12am!).
That's why in the end I decided to use a pre - split (is that what you mean by wiped?) rom in the end.
I'm gonna have a play with the 'phone again later when I finish work.
[HOW-TO] Installing AOSP Android 7.0 "Nougat" Internally on the 16 GB Nook Tablet
Edit 2-5-23: I recently revisited my installation and found it had become sluggish to the point of being more or less useless. Google Play service updates had taken their toll. So I decided to start over and use microG instead. I also found that the original rooting method no longer worked for some unknown reason, so I resorted to Magisk. Seems like a good time for an update to the instructions!
[shamelessly adapted from peerless instructions for other NT installs by @digixmax, and information from @mikeataol that is scattered through the CM 13.0 thread.]
Disclaimer: Neither I nor any other user mentioned here, real or imaginary, is responsible if you brick your device following these instructions. The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask right before you ruined your tablet.
By following these instructions you can install an AOSP Android 7.0 ROM from @amaces internally (into emmc) on a 16 GB Nook Tablet running either stock, CM 10.x, CM 11.x, CM 12.x, or CM 13.x, assuming you have done no special repartitioning (it may also work if you have done special repartitioning, but I do not know). If you have previously installed CM 14.x and have repartitioned, you can return to those installation instructions where there may be a description of how to revert to the regular partitioning. This ROM does not require any special partitioning.
The AOSP ROM is a bare-bones, very responsive build. It runs rings around my former CM 12.1 install without any freezes or shutdowns. Using microG to spoof Google Services Framework signature frees you from the relentless pressure of GApps as Play Services are always updating and always expanding. I originally used a pico GApps package on my first install. At the time the package was 77 MB. The current package as of this editing is 184 MB--too much for the device. You can start with my original package but it won't stay that size. Still, some people will want to try so I have provided instructions for both microG and GApps.
If you have a bootable SD card made for installing CM 10.x-13.x, you can skip to step 2b.
1. Using a disk partition tool (such as MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition) create on the SD card a Primary FAT32 partition, set the partition ID type for the partition to 0x0C FAT32 LBA, and set its Active flag. Once this is done, the partition should appear as a (read/write accessible) drive under Windows
2. Obtain and copy to the SD card the following files:
a. first MLO, then next u-boot.bin, and finally flashing_boot.img in succulent_boot.zip obtained from https://www.mediafire.com/folder/xjwc1a482a6ll/Nook_Tablet
b. TWRP (TeamWin Recovery Project) version 2.8.6.0, e.g. twrp-2.8.6.0-acclaim-sdcard.img from https://dl.twrp.me/acclaim/twrp-2.8.6.0-acclaim-sdcard.img.html, rename it to recovery.img before copying to SD card. Be sure to use the sdcard.img file and not the one for internal emmc
c. the flashable_TWRP_3.0.2-0.zip zip file from https://www.mediafire.com/folder/xjwc1a482a6ll/Nook_Tablet
d. the zip file of the AOSP Android 7.0 ROM by @amaces, i.e., aosp_acclaim-ota-NBD90Z.161020.zip from https://www.mediafire.com/?5vcw8l603d3r5sc or https://mega.nz/#!nQwiEILS!dm7i-4AOUzYW5yP0LaqcZ5EAUsxeh-Qr8DULB4BGYZ8 [this ROM is no longer in the repository maintained by @amaces] (alternate link provided by @mikeataol)
e. Magisk for the Nook Tablet: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachments/magisk-v16-0_patched2-zip.4427362/ (credits to member @fddm)
OPTIONAL:
f. the zip file of the GApps package (corresponding to Android 7.0): https://www.mediafire.com/file/po12x99lg47p4oj/open_gapps-arm-7.0-pico-20170310.zip/file
3. Put the SD card into the NT and boot from its power off by inserting a powered USB cable. Press and hold the "n" button as soon as CyanoBoot comes up to get the boot menu to display.
a. Select SDC Recovery.
b. [Optional step but highly recommended] Select Backup to backup your NT current ROM config (/boot, /recovery, /system, and /data).
c. Return to TWRP opening screen and select Install. From the external SD card install flashable_TWRP_3.0.2-0.zip
(my experience with TWRP is that it is very cranky, at least on my tablet; if you have trouble with it not recognizing the external SD card, try rebooting into recovery again....or again....)
d. Reboot. Press and hold the "n" button as soon as CyanoBoot comes up to get the boot menu to display. Select Internal (emmc) Recovery (note that from here on all installation is done using the internal TWRP 3.0.2-0)
e. Select Wipe (data & factory reset) OR, using Advanced Wipe, wipe system, data, cache, dalvik.
f. [Optional] Select Advanced Wipe, Repair or Change file system; select "data" (only) and change file system from ext4s to f2fs (supposedly a faster format--if you decide to undo all this, you should probably reformat "data" to ext4s)
g. Reboot to internal (emmc) recovery as in 3d. (ignore warnings about "no system" if you see any)
h. Select Install. From the external SD card install aosp_acclaim-ota-NBD90Z.161020.zip (ignore E: unknown command errors)
i. Reboot to internal (emmc) recovery as in 3d.
j. Select Install. From the external SD card install magisk-v16-0_patched2-zip
OPTIONAL:
k. Reboot to internal (emmc) recovery as in 3d.
l. Select Install. From the external SD card install appropriate opengapps zip
Continue here from either step j or step l
m. Remove SD card and select reboot.
For GApps
n. Wait for first boot to complete and sign in.
After first boot and the usual stuff, check Magisk Manager to see if root is enabled. You will be asked to update Magisk Manager. You can say "yes" ONCE. It will ask every time you open the app, but don't say "yes" again. The next update will render it inoperable., you'll lose root, curse me, etc. You've been warned.
Done!
[Don't you want to make a baseline backup right now?]
microG (for those skipping GApps)
Spoiler
You've skipped GApps if you're looking at this. There are all kinds of packages available for Magisk to do all the microG stuff in one fell swoop. But there's a lot of contradictory information out there and many of the packages include other stuff you may not want. Also, this old version of Magisk may not work with some of the packages. In the end I decided to try setting up microG the way I learned to do it: manually. It's not that difficult and you get only what you want.
To work, microG requires that signature spoofing be enabled on the ROM. On this ROM you need to use Xposed for that. So let's get started!
4.
a. Download the Xposed installer zip for Magisk and SDK 24 (Android 7.0): https://www.mediafire.com/file/v6zkpj4n3rbi11t/xposed-sdk24-topjohnwu.zip/file. Copy the file to the bootable SD card you used for the ROM installation.
OPTIONAL
b. Download the flashable maps zip file and copy it to the SD card (you only want this if you wish to use Location services or might want to run Tasker): https://www.mediafire.com/file/7y8cmr4obydo35d/mapsv1.flashable.zip/file
c. You'll need some kind of root file manager for this process (you could use adb, but it's cumbersome). I've attached an old version of ES File Explorer that I like. You'll have to adb install that since the meager sort of "file manager" in the ROM doesn't work with the package installer.
d. You'll also need the Xposed installer app and the Fake GApps module which enables signature spoofing. I've attached both below.
e. Finally, you need the microG component apps. You can get them here: https://microg.org/download.html. You want Services Core, Services Framework Proxy, and Store. If you want to use Location services, you will also need the UnifiedNLP app.
The tools are now assembled!
f. Shut down your tablet and place the bootable SD card in the slot. Power up.
g. Press and hold the "n" button as soon as CyanoBoot comes up to get the boot menu to display. Select Internal (emmc) Recovery
h. Select Install. From the external SD card install xposed-sdk24-topjohnwu.zip
OPTIONAL
i. If you want to use Location services, also install mapsv1.flashable.zip
j. Remove the SD card and reboot. The process may take a little longer due to the new Xposed framework (first time only).
k. Transfer the apps you collected in steps d and e above to the internal Download folder. Use the root file manager you installed to install the Xposed installer app and the Fake GApps app. Open the installer app and check anything that needs checking then reboot. Check the installer app once more to see that the Fake GApps app has been installed and enabled.
l. Using the root file manager create the folder /system/priv-app/Phonesky. Set folder permissions to rwx-rx-rx. Use the root file manager to move fake "Store" app (com.android.vending-16.apk) into /system/priv-app/Phonesky and set apk file permissions to rw-r-r.
m. Move microG component apks into /system/priv-app; set apk file permissions to rw-r-r (you need a minimum of Services Core and Services Framework Proxy for this step). Reboot.
n. Check microG Settings to be sure spoofing is enabled and other permissions are granted. You don't need to enable any of the other Google stuff at this point unless you want to.
OPTIONAL
o. If you want Location services install the UnifiedNLP app then return to microG settings to configure (check regular settings for "Location" also--you'll see that the microG settings have been inserted into the general Settings app)
OK, you now have microG running at its lowest service level. Without doing anything else it should provide signature spoofing for apps that are looking for Google Services Framework. If you want higher levels of service (say, an actual Google account) you can make those selections in the settings. Generally, apps that require a Google account will call up microG to initiate a Google login (slow, but it works).
It is theoretically possible to run the PlayStore with the right configuration, but I would not recommend it. The Aurora Store (F-droid) runs really well on the device and can provide you with PlayStore access without GApps (or more demanding levels of microG service). You can use the anonymous login.
Calendar and Contacts will not sync with Google using microG. There's a lot of old stuff online about this working and how to set it up, but it does not work any more, so don't waste your time. If you MUST have synced contacts and calendar, you can use DavX (F-droid) (configuration--start with Calendar!) . Otherwise you can export a vcard file (*.vcf) of your contacts and load them in as a local set on the tablet. For a contacts app I extracted the Contacts.apk from a CM 13 ROM and placed it in /system/app/Contacts (permissions rw-r-r). Likewise the Calendar.apk in /system/app/Calendar. I've attached these apps below.
For email I tried using the AOSP client from a CM 13 ROM. The system recognized it but crashed on opening. Eventually I settled on an older version of K-9 mail (6.20). I had problems with Google 2-factor verification with the more current versions.
I've attached a screenshot of my system below. More discussion on individual apps and issues in the following post.
My thanks to @digixmax for his many, many excellent how-to's and for the help he has given me in the past. He is also responsible for providing the flashable TWRP that avoids the need for fastboot in this install. I'm grateful to @mikeataol for his patient responses to my probably lame questions in the CM 13.0 thread concerning this ROM and, of course, really thankful that @amaces turned out this excellent version of AOSP Android 7.0 for our devices.
See post immediately below for a discussion of known issues and app options.
Updated 2-16-23
Issues and Apps
Every custom (and stock) ROM has some issues. This one seems to have very few and they are easily addressed.
1. The stock browser is "broken", at least to the extent that it cannot save bookmarks.
Here's a fix for the bookmark issue. Use a root file manager to navigate to /system/app/BookmarkProvider. In that folder you will find an apk file of the same name. Tap to install (actually update, I guess). Then reboot.
A good alternative browser that works well with this ROM is Via.
2. The stock launcher is pretty basic. After a lot of fooling around with display and font size in Settings I found no combination that significantly affected the rather large (for my taste) icon size without otherwise distorting the display in some way.
I ended up restoring the display to defaults and installing Nova Launcher.
3. There's no Gallery?! Yep. For awhile I was using a Gallery from my old CM 10.2.1 install, but it didn't work very well. Then I discovered that @theportal2 had worked up a Lineage Gallery app with the necessary libraries for install on other ROMs. It works great and includes a ton of features, even photo editing. You can get it here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an...lineage-os-gallery-apk-photo-editing-t3664460
4. The MTP file transfer setting in Settings>Developer options>Networking>Select USB Configuration is not effective and selecting it in Settings seems to encourage the MTP host to whine with system messages occasionally.
Leave setting on "charging" (default) and when you connect via USB, use the pull-down notification to select MTP transfer for that session.
Better yet, you can disable the MTP Host app with no apparent repercussions. Just go into Settings>Apps (show system) and disable it. I was sort of surprised that this had no effect on file transfer protocol.
5. The swipe-to-unlock screen is tenacious and its use may result in repetitive motion injury.
OK, so maybe this is a "feature?". If you touch anywhere on the swipe-to-unlock screen the little "Swipe to unlock" bounces up from the bottom. With that visible, the screen swipes effortlessly. Who knew?
6. The system throws up two notifications when you connect to USB (if you have debugging enabled). Just a minor annoyance. If you don't like seeing those two "N"s either, you can see just one (for the connection type: charge, transfer, etc.) with a simple addition to /system/build.prop:
Code:
persist.adb.notify=0
7. Some apps can't write to the SD card (as portable storage). Kodi is an example, I'm sorry to say. I've tried many "solutions" to this problem but the only one that worked for me is to edit /data/system/packages.xml, adding the permission for each specific app you want. This is a long file and I recommend off-loading a copy and editing with something like Notepad++. After locating the app you want in the xml file, add this line anywhere between the <perms> and </perms> tags:
Code:
<item name="android.permission.WRITE_MEDIA_STORAGE" granted="true" flags="0" />
Replace the file on the device with the edited version and reboot. This change will be overwritten if the app updates, so you might want to keep that in mind.
8. I am partial to the version of ES File Explorer which is attached to the first post. It's not too bloated and works well with the device, the package installer, etc.
9. Generally speaking I would gravitate toward older versions of apps which may be easier on the system. As an example, I'm using version 1.8.6 of MX Player, long before all the streaming nonsense took over. TuneIn Radio and Pandora are so old they will run on Android 2.1! Sometimes enough is just right.
Apps that don't work
1. The NPR News app currently in the PlayStore at this writing crashes repeatedly just after starting.
Version 2.6.1 works fine. Interestingly, when the PlayStore version installs, the icon background color is black. On another Nook Tablet (HD) running CM 11, the same version installs with a white icon background and runs fine. Version 2.6.1 also installs on this AOSP ROM with a white icon background. Hmm.
Xposed
Oh yes, even I eventually missed a feature or two from my last CM install The good news is that the Nougat version of Xposed runs well on this ROM, at least to the extent of using Gravity Box (I just had to have the extended power menu back.....)
Alternative apps for microG
I've included some of the more common ones (Contacts, Calendar, Email) in the previous post. If you've set up Location service you might want Maps. I've not had much luck with newer versions of Maps on my various devices. Too greedy for system resources. But I have found an older version of the app which still runs, includes Places, and allows you to cache map areas which do not expire.
YouTube is another real resource hog. I'm not a big YouTube fan, but there are times when I want something and a browser like Via or the stock one is so-so (it works, but you have to be patient). I looked around and decided NewPipe would meet most of my needs. It's not perfect. The full-screen player crashes on all the custom ROMs I've tried. However, you can set it to use an external player (like MX Player) and that works fine with full screen. I really like the ability to download videos (or just the audio) in a recognizable format--and even to the SD card!
And don't forget the Aurora Store (F-Droid) for PlayStore access.

Adding a pico Google Apps package keeps the ROM mean and lean while giving you PlayStore access to add just what you want.
If you have a bootable SD card made for installing CM 10.x-12.x, you can skip to step 2b.
2. Obtain and copy to the SD card the following files:
a. first MLO, then next u-boot.bin, and finally flashing_boot.img in succulent_boot.zip obtained from https://www.mediafire.com/folder/xjwc1a482a6ll/Nook_Tablet

c. the flashable_TWRP_3.0.2-0.zip zip file from https://www.mediafire.com/folder/xjwc1a482a6ll/Nook_Tablet
d. the zip file of the AOSP Android 7.0 ROM by @amaces, i.e., aosp_acclaim-ota-NBD90Z.161020.zip from my Dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b7zc8d56z2gl69m/aosp_acclaim-ota-NBD90Z.161020.zip?dl=0 (alternative link provided by @mikeataol: https://mega.nz/#!nQwiEILS!dm7i-4AOUzYW5yP0LaqcZ5EAUsxeh-Qr8DULB4BGYZ8) [this ROM is no longer in the repository maintained by @amaces]
e. the zip file of the Gapps package (corresponding to Android 7.0) from http://opengapps.org/

You can try, but I think you'll need to update the internal TWRP at least.
Is anyone able to install any of the recent AOSP/LNOS builds of Amaces on a 16G NT that still uses the original partition format PLUS any recent opengapps TOGETHER successfully???
For me any builds from Amaces since 2017 can install successfully ... BUT ran out of /system space after that and cannot install OpenGapps. I use/tried PICO opengapps only always.
When I open file manager from TWRP 3100 there is nothing inside /system .... so was not able to clean up anything inside ....
Amaces: If you see this can you please help?? I know your focus is on the Ovation (I use it too) but I really want to try your LNOS for the NT on my original partitioned one.
Just FYI on the 16G NT that has the newer CM14.1 repartitioned format -> None of Amaces' ROM for Acclaim can install. Can only use dmarble's new LNOS builds or the old remaining CM14.1 builds on those.
If anyone has a good and easy solution to get around the /system out of space issue to install Gapps please share. I want to keep one acclaim on the original partition format. My other acclaim is running dmarble's ROM happily.

Yes, have done many times.
make sure you have mounted /system in TWRP
Try a reboot after ROM install, and before gapps install.
The latest LNOS in experimental (lnos_acclaim-ota-N2G47E.170416) installs a fresh pico gapps of about 80MB with no manipulation.
in the past if I have had to make room, I copy and delete /system/media to /emmc before gapps install, and copy it back after

Thank you Mike!!! It is the /system mounting .... I never thought it would have to be mounted .... since it complaint not enough space instead of not found/mounted. But anyway .... I mounted /system in TWRP after ROM install+reboot into recovery. Now I can see stuff inside /system.
But it still complaint about not enough /system space and cannot install Gapps. I just copied off /system/media and deleted it. And now the Gapps installed ok. I am rebooting into LNOS now.
Do I really need those stuff in /system/media and have to copy it back?? If no use I want to keep it lean.
Thanks again!!! (I am using the exact LNOS ROM in A's experimental folder as you mentioned)
Just a heads-up that I don't actually have the hardware, so everything that I upload for acclaim is not really tested, but I try to not to break things.

I'll put something like this on the list, so a larger /system (upstream Lineage, or via REPIT) is usable with these builds (Lineage/AOSP would still need manual resize).
So far this build (7.0) works much better than 6.0. Thanks!
Hi, thank you very much for the tutorial, I have followed the guide step by step but I can't get the tablet to boot the cyanoboot, I turned off and plug the power cable from the adapter and it boots normally, my tablet model is BNTV250 16 GB version, runing stock OS and it has not been rooted before or anything, I have tried flash the sd with older methods in order to root it and haven't had any success, that's how I ended up here, I'm using an 8GB trascend sd card, the Tablet detect the sd card since I can see the files in the tablet browser but I can't get it to boot the cyanoboot or anything else, can someone assist me? thank you very much in anticipation.

there is a certain percentage of Nook tablets that wont boot from a card unless you power down, insert the card, then power up by inserting the USB cable, not by pressing the on/off switch. (about 15% of nooks I've seen are like this)
if even that doesn't work, you should make another card . Class 4 is best, faster isn't better in this case.

If the tablet won't boot from the SD card it's likely that there is either something wrong with the boot files, i.e., those files first placed on the card in step 2a, or with the formatting of the card (step 1). You might want to download a fresh set of files and try making the card again. Corrupt files will make this task impossible.
It's also possible that your particular SD card just won't do it. It's been known to happen.

That's they way I've tried, inserting the USB cable, the sd is class 4 indeed, so I don't know what it could be.

Unfortunately, yes. I'm not saying your card is defective but this whole business of booting from the card contains a minor but distinct element of voodoo
So....download those files from step 2a again, reformat the card (again....), and prepare it as before (again....). If it still does not work, I'd look for a different card to try this process. Don't be discouraged. I did a lot of "again..." when I first did anything like this. It will work for you.

So....download those files from step 2a again, reformat the card (again....), and prepare it as before (again....). If it still does not work, I'd look for a different card to try this process. Don't be discouraged. I did a lot of "again..." when I first did anything like this. It will work for you.

I downloaded those files again, re-do the sd card and prepare it again, it still don't boot lol
This is the link I'm following for the TWRP image; https://dl.twrp.me/acclaim/twrp-2.8.6.0-acclaim-sdcard.img, i don't know if I have to use that or the one that comes in the suculent boot folder?
Another thing is that I've been using an SD card adapter and have tried trough the nook too, and also downloaded the mini gaaps file for android 7 ARM, but I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with the boot stuff, so I'm gonna fallow your suggestion and try with an old 1 gb or 2 gb card, and see what happens, everything related on formating the SD via partition tool mini has done correctly, my Internet security blocks a menace while I attemp to download the files from media fire, you think that could be corrupting the files? I get the download and the menace blocked by Iinternet Security so I'm not sure, if you have any other suggestion I will be glad to read, meanwhile I will search for those damn cards, and I can't thank you enough for you time helping a noob here! thanks!!

You are downloading the correct TWRP. The other one is too old. I don't know about any warnings from MediaFire. I just downloaded the succulent_boot.zip myself and saw no warnings, but that may be browser/configuration dependent. I'm using Firefox with a double layer of ad-blocking.
Generally speaking you want to download the files on your PC, then insert the SD card into the adapter, into the SDHC slot, and do all the work on the PC before inserting the card into the tablet.
If you have a way to verify the MD5 checksums of your boot files (winmd5free), this is what I get:
MLO: 979fa71c9ee33ca9690df809c71e1991
u-boot.bin: 1070cd90b3d57a47cdc8c22b00243ff7
flashing_boot.img: 3a626c102ef4324a163d54751ef680f1
I think you might run into size issues with the mini GApps.

Alright! I found 3 sd cards each of them with a 2gb capacity, that should the incompatibilty, each three are different brands, and I found a better SD adapter, I will re-do all the steps in building the SD and if that does not work will download the files again with jdownloader to avoid menace pop outs, and if that doesn't do I will check the MD5 :fingers-crossed: I will update here, and thank you again!.
Update: it was the SD, I manage to do all the steps except for the gapps file, I couldn't install it, which you will recomend to download, I download the ARM android 7.0 mini, and more importantly my tablet loops on the "android" screen, with or without the SD inside, am I missing something? I did not installed supersu even though I got asked a few times during tutorial, any suggestion?
Have you tried clearing the cache? That worked for me the first time I did this.
Also, which OS image are you using? When I tried to reinstall a newer version mine would not boot after copying gapps over, presumably due to space.

I'm a little bit lose regarding memory space on this tablet, I reinstall the OS that was in this tutorial and finally booted to menu, but I can't connect to wifi, I don't know why, I might install another OS, which gapps file you reccomend to download? the stock, full version or mini?
