status code and warranty - Nexus 9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, does unlocking bootloader void the warranty?
Is there any status code (like nexus 6) in our nexus 9?

1. Yes
2. Sure, the boot loader will say unlocked or locked, if that's what you're asking
"I'd Totally Hug You, If That Was Something I Did"

no, i'm talking about a status code that is present in nexus 6 and can be 0-1-2
Is there this king of code in nexus 9 or only locked or unlockes status

He's talking about a flag that shows if the bootloader has been unlocked and then subsequently relocked.

I don't recall seeing that mentioned in this forum ever, but I just relocked mine before returning it. I imagine the people at repair centers won't go searching for the status code, since that's more work for them.

Yes, there is a status code. When I unlocked my new device yesterday, it said status code 1. I don't expect it to be any sort of issue though.

do you think that it can be a problem with the warranty?
Where can you see it? Can you make a screen?

The fact that it isn't readily visible (I can't find it again, lol) should be in our favor. I can tell you that I did not see it until I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the 5.1.1 images. I relocked the bootloader and it isn't showing so I feel confident calling it a non issue. It's gonna bother me not knowing at what step it showed it though. ?

this is funny xD i unlocked my bootloader and i don't see any status cose, i tryed relocking and unlocking again, and i don't see nothink xD
i hope that the think you've seen wasn't a status cose, but people here says that they simple relocked bootloader and RMA, so i hope that this isn't a problem
(in nexus 6 the status code is visible in the bootlader, but here we have only locked/unlocked status, also status code in motorola was made by motorola

stupid question

I have the Mini Pro and I just looked in the service menu and found "Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No" . Now I haven't unlocked it myself, I have only flashed the global official software. Does this mean my phone will accept custom kernels or will it brick if I try?
Thanks
First of all there isnt such thing as a stupid question. Its only easier to answer. You cannot access fastboot without unlocking the bootloader, and you cant install a custom kernel without fastboot. You need to unlock it.
thanks for your reply.
OK so fastboot is needed to flash custom kernel. got that. But even though it says "Bootloader Unlock Enabled:No" I am still able to unlock it and enable fastboot correct?
Thanks
Yes, you have to use a 3rd party app. Cant remember the name, do some research. Its somewhere in the Development for our devices.
In this page http://androidflip.com/unlock-xperia-phones-bootloader-without-losing-drm-data-track-id-working/
says: If you see Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No that means bootloaders are already unlocked
What? No dude... When it says NO it means the bootloader is carrier locked...

This is what made me ask the question. But after looking on here http://unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
it says "2.In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked."
which made me suspect that I may not be able to unlock it whatsoever
have you bought your phone through carrier? its on contract? if yes, then sorry you cant unlock its bootloader
YES YOU CAN! But you have to pay... Or i think its for free now. Stop talking without doing some basic research first.

There. You can unlock your device by paying. THIS IS NOT AN ADVERTISMENT IT IS SIMPLY TO STOP THESE DAMN POSTS REGARDING BOOTLOADER UNLOCKING.

How to revert back to stock rom/kernal

Hello there!
i have been using my OneX+ for a few months now and i honestly hate it. selling my GNexus was the biggest mistake i've made. everything, apart from the internal storage is worse on this phone and i literally have had enough of it. I want to sell it and get either a Nexus 4 or GSIII.
I have been looking around for tutorials etc, but havent really found anything solid and related to this phone. im sure it's an easy thing to do, so if anyone out there knows how to do it, can you please spend a few moments and explain it to me, i will be very greatfull!
thanks in advance
I guess if u are trying to get rid of your one X+ u want to make it in somewhat original condition.
Then u need to relock your boatloader and then run the RUU to get you back to stock.
No one will know its been rooted except the boatloader will show relocked instaed of locked.
So search for RUU and relockong boatloader on the forums for the step by step.

well i know how to relock the bootloader, it's quite simple, but problem is, i ran the RUU exe and it failed to revert my phone to stock rom etc. although i didnt relock the bootloader before doing it, would that be why it failed?
thanks

Yeap, u must FIRST relock than run RUU.
Check sticked threads in general question (U will have full tutorial how to back to stock) - however in bootloader there will be RELOCKED status not LOCKED, so it will be clear visible that u`ve previously unlocked Your device - may cause problem with warranty)

thanks. im not worried about the warranty thing. i will sell it on ebay without it... and i believe HTC will still honor your warranty if the problem is not software related.
As far as I know u cannot return to LOCKED status after unlocking.

If the device says relocked and i need to send it in for a warranty will it be an issue
The Camera on my HOX+ is terrible, tried the MOD but doesn't help
HTC say i must send it in but don't want in case there's issues
Thanks
camera is poor, change them doesnt help realy.
bootloader lock status has nothing to do with warranty

Ok thanks Skdubg
Only reason i thought there was an issue was i've compared photos to an stock standard HTC one x and they much better than my plus when viewed on a pc screen or HDTV
When viewed at actually size the photos are terrible, even video recording stutters a bit, video isn't smooth
Sorry wrong thread to go on about the photo and video quality
But just wanted to know if i factory reset and make stock standard and return bootloader to relocked if HTC will still honor the warranty
Thanks
My understanding is that unlock bootloader = void warranty. It wouldn't matter what you did after that. What a stupid policy - I just got my phone and now I'm afraid to root it. I desperately want to apply the BT call quality fix!

That's not my understanding of the terms from http://htcdev.com/bootloader/ :
It is our responsibility to caution you that not all claims resulting or caused by or from the unlocking of the bootloader may be covered under warranty.

and
We strongly suggest that you do not unlock the bootloader unless you are confident that you understand the risks involved. This is a technical procedure and the side effects could possibly necessitate repairs to your device not covered under warranty. If you are still interested in unlocking the bootloader, and you understand the consequences both to your device and to your warranty, then you may refer to the following pages where we have provided the unlocking instructions.

Sounds like a pretty good deal given the mobile industries general state of affairs.
No revert; just a flash, flash, flash, restore type thing.

First of all get your self on .532 and root and then back up the TA partition, may save some grief at a latter date.
Then all I can say is try and try again, and make sure that you submitted the correct IMEI to Sony
am now on 5.10 and still doesnt work using any method

Type in *#*#7378423#*#*
Go to Service Info > Configuration
And check the Rooting Status
Does it say Bootloader Unlock Allowed: No?

yeah i done that and i get told "no"
i dunno what else to do now that am being told i cant unlock
I should read your first post better
If it is unlockable then I don't think there is any thing you can do
am confused? why wouldn't i be able to unlock?
Because your device is probably a carrier-linked one... almost every phone bought within the US, if it's not from the manufacturer itself, is locked.
You either will have to live with it, or just sell it and buy an unlockable one directly from Sony.

Unlocking bootloader and warranty

I've had amy Mate 10 Pro for a week now and am enjoying it so far. I have always rooted all my phones and want to root this one as well. I have applied for my unlock code and received it. One thing I was wondering about, Huawei say they record that you have asked for the unlock code for warranty reasons.
So......... As I have my code, does that mean they would not honour the warranty even if I dont unock the phone and leave as it is??
If so, I may as well go ahead and root!!
Thanks
Hi ya, I did the same thing as you, applied for it and then it said they record that you asked for it. I believe when you unlock the bootloader it goes to unlocked and you get the splash screen warning on every boot, but if you relock the bootloader, it's shows relocked and not locked. So aslong as you haven't unlocked it , then it will show locked and your warranty should still be intact, but the thread by mankindtw is able to unlock and relock without the code and I believe still shows as locked after relocking for warranty purposes. Hope that helps.

What's wrong with it?
Your V30 is obviously a used phone and previous owner had unlocked the bootloader.
The bootloader was locked back before selling or else you would see bootloader unlocked warning every time you reboot. Like I see on my phone.
If you think/know your phone is brand new, then there's an issue where someone unlocked the bootloader at one point prior to sale, but locked it back.
Requesting this be moved to Q&A. It's in wrong section.
Is it possible to make it official again? If not, I If it's not possible, I'il give it back. Thank you.

It's got stock firmware and the bootloader is locked back. It is official.
If you mean counter set back to zero, I don't know. That doesn't affect functionality whatsoever.
Your phone was not new, right? Used by someone else before this, right?
Yes it is. I bought a friend's device. Where can we see counter 1 or 0 Thank you so much.
