What is the latest firmware version and Android version? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Let me first say sorry for an apparently dumb question. I don't have a Verizon gs4 or a gs4 at all for that matter. I'm trying to help out a few family members that have vzw gs4. They recently got an update and aren't happy with it. Some weird volume issues and the battery getting very hot. I'm trying to find out what the latest update was? Are there many people having issues with it and is it known issues by Verizon......can they expect another update soon to fix the issues etc?
I figured where better to ask than the xda gs4 community.
I'm very familiar with Samsung phones and Android in general. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

The latest for a stock S4 is Android 5.0.1 Touchwiz. Firmware/baseband I believe is I545VRUFOC1

If they don't like it, they can't go back to an older version they may like. Curse Verizon/Samsung

I know, its bs. I'm using a Verizon gs3. I never took any ota's so I'm unlocked, running a custom cm 12.1 build.

I can see where using your phone for business it should be locked down, however, I would gladly pay $50 to have them just unlock the bootloader.

Just keep like rest of us... I believe the majority will have standard thus will get same development capabilities we already have bootloader work around and root!

Agreed... my initial though was I might as well just take it back and get the developer version.
But I'm confident the standard one will be the more popular device

Considering the developer edition won't even work on Verizon, I'm going to have to keep mine.

Oh, that. That though, is just a GS4 with an unlocked bootloader. It won't be a "Google Edition" and won't be getting updates with the actual GS4 GE. No point since we already have bootloader workaround.

Keep what you have got because the developer's edition probably won't have any Verizon support or warranty protection.

VRUAME7 has been rooted

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43982370
Root announcement just posted. No recovery yet, they're still working on that, and on releasing an updated root tool for the masses. Good news for those that took the update, or received their new phone w/the update on it.

Wait so just to be sure, those of us who took the update can't Odin back to MDK and root + install recovery right? Sorry if this was mentioned somewhere else. Checked threads here and ddcelopement section and couldn't find a straight answer. Thanks

Thanks. I don't get why we can't Odin back though? I thought ME7 just prevented us from flashing the pre-release kernel no?

It also blocked the mdk kernel. And I believe it included a new bootloader which blocked the loki patch as well. Could be wrong about the 2nd part.
Damn, this update is worse than I thought. Haha

I didn't buy it outright, I stole an upgrade from a dumbphone line on my plan in order to keep my unlimited data. They only offer the consumer edition from vzw. Plus, I believe there is no warranty at all for a dev edition, and it only comes in 16gb. 32gb needed!

Jelly Bean 4.3!!!!

It is expected that there will be most probably no jelly bean 4.2 instead direct 4.3 update for our device in approx 1 month:laugh::laugh::laugh:
(have a contact in lg got to know it from there)
There above information may be incorrect so don't get angry if we don't get an update:highfive:
Edit:We are not getting any official jelly bean update!
Rather wrong info - why LG would do that ? It is better for them to sell new phones .

I agree. We can speculate all we want, doesn't mean anything. Unless we see a list or basically anything that proves it, it's all just speculation.

some fresh news ?
post your email & LG answer here
i think if there is a update, it must 4.2.2 and Optimus L9 don't update above that 4.2.2
Would be sweet if true, but considering LG is going to release L9 II, I find this hard to believe.
LG never updates its devices. I had the P500 and it got 2.3 from 2.2 and then was abandoned. We got 4.1 from 4.0. Most likely we will not get 4.2 or 4.3 officially for this phones considering they're almost 1 year old and it's not a flagship device.
Question....
But do we have hardware strong enough to run 4.3 or upcoming 5.0?
Then Lg must update our phones...

Our hardware is definitely strong enough to run 4.3 (I am currently running it right now, its smoother than stock 4.1.2) and probably 5.0 too.
Sadly, just because our hardware can run something doesn't mean LG is required to update it. I think we have a chance though, they might give us 4.3.

To me it doesn't matter so much if we get official 4.3 or not. I would care more about them giving us unlockable bootloader support n stuff.

Yes, its done, a stock root deodexed version. Two issues though, one wifi wont reliably work and every now and again it force closes. Building roms isnt my expertise though, ill probably have to ask beans or andybones for some help. Maybe one of them gets it done before me? Ive also been porting a bunch of 4.3 apps over (have about 12 that work right now) but im easily distracted lol plus its football Sunday!

Bought used, rooted S4. Am I unlocked?

Before I get people in here looking to "flame a noob", please leave me alone if that is your intention. If you genuinely are a helpful person, please read on.
I came from an unlocked s3 before I purchased a phone from Swappa and it is rooted and works fine. However, it has a pink theme and I am not into it. Additionally, I want to upgrade the rom if possible.
The issue is that I don't know if I need safestrap or of it has an unlocked bootloader. The reason why is from what I have read, the mj7 baseband is locked down. However, the phone seems to be running a custom kernel, which from what I have read is not possible on a locked down version. Is it possible that the baseband is just the one used by the custom rom?
Is there a definitive way to know if I can install roms without safestrap?
Thanks for your help!

Install phone info app from play store. If you don't see any reference to mdk...then you have a locked bootloader and can only use safestrap
sent by safestrap powered echo v26
I'm no pro, but I think having that kernel means that you have a mdk phone. I guess you should still check with "samsung phone info" and take a look at the bootloader part. You might be a lucky man
