[Urgent Help !!!] Phone wont complete booting after playing With EFS Related App
My S2 GT-I9100 International Version is no longer completes booting to normal android system.
I was trying to Backup the EFS Partition with HC-Ktool & more tools (Now i Have a Copy of EFS on my computer & on the phone internal memory)
then i tried to restore it From the same app " HC-Ktool " then the phone rebooted immediately & rain into a boot loop
what i did to try to fix it :
1-factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik ..etc
the boot-loop still exists
2-restore the full system backup i previously made via the CWM option (Backup & restore)
the boot-loop still exists
3-flashing the official ROM with android 4.1.2 that i always use+factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik ..etc
the boot-loop still exists
4-re flashing the official ROM with option "EFS Clear" in ODIN Selected !
the boot-loop still exists
5-flashing the EFS backup taken , i selected the backup EFS file in "PDA" section in ODIN (efs_backup_2015-06-01_15-44-58.tar)
the boot-loop still exists
6-flashing the "modem" file which is also a result of the EFS Backup Operation that i did previously (modem_backup_2015-06-01_15-44-58.tar)
the boot-loop still exists
What Should i Do ... Please Help me... i dunno what i have to do & what to try ! ????????

[Q] Nandroid did not restore the previous state, all apps missing

Hi guys, I'm in awkward situation. I'd appreciate any tip what to do.
Intro: I might have got some (small) amount of water into the phone, so I removed the battery, dried it for some time and then started it. Everything was OK, but anyway I decided to get it cleaned in service to be sure no corrosion appears later. I wanted to give them phone without any private data, so I decided to root, backup, wipe, give it to them and restore afterwards.
So I rooted with Odin and cf-root-sgs2_xw_clk_kf3-v4-0-cwm4 (I have XWKI4 firmware and this was mentioned as the right one for KI4), everything went fine. The phone was working afterwards. So I booted into recovery and backed it up with nandroid, copied the backups and the content of external storage to the computer, wiped the phone in recovery mode and gave it to the service. They cleaned it.
Today, I wanted to restore the backup, but here came the problem. Everything seems to be running, the backup restore took up to 10 minutes, it showed restoring system, data, displayed file names looked real, etc. No error, so I restarted.
However, after restart, the Android intro wizard was shown, I was asked to enter google login and only standard applications were shown. But wifi got connected, flight-mode was restored upon first launch (I used it for backup), wallpaper was restored. In Titanium Backup, I can see the list of all previously installed applications, but in grey and crossed. I reinstalled some of them, but most of them were crashing. For some of them, backing them up, uninstalling, reinstalling them back and restoring only the data (in Titanium) helps. The rest is not crashing at least, but the data are gone. I also tried Titanium to open the CWM backup, but that works for CWM v5 AFAIK, so no luck here either.
What could have happened? Is there any way how to solve this or is it simply lost?
Some background: Bad things happen together as you might know, one of my SoDIMM modules in laptop failed during this operation. system.img was damaged as a consequence (MD5 hash showed this). I found this when I tried to restore the backup for the first time. So I made a wipe, then made another backup, compared the system.img. I saw the MD5 hash for the new system.img is the same as for the old backup so I took the system.img from there. I was lucky this was not data.img. I'm certain I'm restoring with the correct files now - MD5 hash check runs just fine in total commander and nandroid before restore.
I also remember that my first try was without restored external storage, I did put there only the clockworkmod backup. But I believe this would not cause such situation. To have as much information as possible, I did this - wipe data, restore backup, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache - start. Problem - wizard appearing. Restore the external storage, get into recovery, wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik, restore, reboot. Wizard again
Thanks for any tip. I'm slowly getting accustomed to installing and setting up everything from scratch. I might install custom ROM finally. But lost data and settings are painful.

Did you use CWM to backup and restore? I've had problems restoring when I backed up on CWM5 and tried to restore on CWM4. It looks like it copies fine but doesn't. Even if you're sure you have the same version, if you use CWM5 app and click restore in there, it reverts to CWM4 for restore (for some reason...) so you have to reboot into CWM mode from the app to get CWM5 to 'work'.
For both backup and restore I rebooted to CWM Recovery and navigated using volume up/down to "backup and restore". By the way ClockworkMod Recovery is v.4.0.0.2
Anybody, no ideas?
Is it common that nandroid is unreliable?

No, I had to use nandroid backup several times and every time everything worked fine for me.
First I thought that you forgot to wipe cache partition, but you wrote that you have done it.
Did you tried to wipe cache (and Dalvik cache) before restoring the CWM backup?
If that does not help, try to fix permissions.
If that does not help either, try to flash a stock ROM, then flash CF-Root kernel (or similar with CWM included), then try again to restore your system backup.
As all your apps are still in Titanium Backup, you can uninstall all corrupt apps after restoring your system backup and restore all user apps (+app data) using Titanium Backup.
Maybe you have to reboot your phone twice after restoring the system backup.
And only after the second boot, you will see all your restored apps.
It is just a guess.
Good luck !
Thanks all. I have no idea what was wrong, of course I tried everything - multiple restores, reboots, wiping cache/Dalvik cache, etc. CF kernel failed on me. Luckily not completely, as the data were there, only the apps did not restore. So I installed the apps using Market. They crashed upon start, but I found that if I back them up with Titanium, uninstall them and then restore, it works. Using these steps, I was able to recovery almost everything.
I have used other Kernels since then and never had that issue anymore.
Did you try using advanced restore from within CWM?
If I am not mistaken and that's that functionality that allows you to restore only particular part of backup, then I believe I tried (even though I'm not 100 % sure). I did try fix permissions also.
I'm blaming incorrect / faulty CWM recovery. It just puts some uncertainty into the process in my eyes.
You are the seccond person I've come across with that problem. It's a really strange issue you are facing.
When you tried to restore, did you have the same firmware and cf-root on your phone as when you made the backup?
Yes. I did backup, then wipe/factory reset and gave the phone to service shop (for cleaning after some possible moisture exposure). I have received it in the same state, so I restored - but the apps were missing. I should have tried a different kernel with slightly different CWM recovery.
in my case, this was caused by nandroid getting out of free space when restoring .android_secure...you know what to do

[Q] CWM Recovery question ! ( URGENT ) !!!!

Guys i have a karbonn A21 running ICS 4.0.4
I recently flashed its newly compiled CWM recovery 5.0.xx version ( 5.0.2.8 is full name i guess)
When i try to backup my rom.. it backs up my system image... everything but when it comes to backing up of data .. it gets stuck at the last on a file tombstonenocrash01 .. and after some time the phone reboots itself.
When i check my backup folder in clockworkmod there's about 435 MB of backup data in there including recovery.img , boot.img , data.ext4.tar and system.ext4.tar .
I just wanna ask that is the backup of my rom Complete and is it safe to restore that backup without any errors ?
Because it didnt show " backup complete" and rebooted itself automatically while backing up data in the end .
Help me please !!!
I would not recommend to restore this backup. I don't think it is consistent.
Try the following:
Open your file manager and go to /data/tombstones. Delete tombstonenocrash01 and try backup again.

Dont you think it might cause a system crash by deleting that file ? Cause its in the android data folder( not on the sdcard) . There are three of those tombstone files. When i extracted my backed up data.ext4.tar i saw those three files are present . And moreover the size of data folder in android directory is same as that of backed up data.ext4.tar .
What should i do ? Restore or not ?
I am scared cause at the moment we dont have any stock rom for the device and if i restore the device and problem crops up then my device is gone. Suggestions please
I wouldn't use that backup ....it will tell you when backup is complete .......and it doesn't look like yours is
Your phone is still working ??? I would download a stock rom or another rom for your phone and copy it to sd card at least you can
use cwm to install it
Hope this helps

As I wrote, don't restore.
For deciding to delete the tombstone files you might want to know what they are for:
If one of your apps crash (forced close) such a tombstone file is created. It is kind of a system dump to search for the error. Maybe some apps crashed in the past on your phone.
Always remember:
Files in /data are configuration files. If you format/wipe data in CWM recovery and reboot, your system is still okay. Wiping data only leaves you without configuration of the apps you have installed.
So don't panic, deleting tombstone files does no damage to your system.

Deleting tombstone files doesnt help. It's still getting stuck at backing up data . Recovery's fault i guess

After losing my imei because of cm10.1 install i tried to restore it through efsbackup pro - it mounted phone ok and started recovering imei from my backup img file, but at the end it said that this was an inproper backup and files dont work proper, and told me NOT to use them, but it auto rebooted before i could do any thing
and now its impossible to to delete/mount efs dir cant install new rom from cwm or odin only stock 4.04 installs ok but same problem persist no matter what if i try flashing newest stock rom 4.1.1 it wont write to nand - pit files from sammy site does the same no writing to nand
I have no imei and unable to format efs dir!! tried rooting it through galaxy 3 toolkit 6.0 and it workng ok i get root and recovery- but from here there no way to mount efs dir same says efsbackup pro when i try to recover/format efs
seems like its missing a pit file..or at least at total format of internal sd, but havent been able to do that until now!
Does anyone have a idea whats going on ? PLS help

Nandroid backup problem

Today I decided to upgrade the cyanogenmod software of my girlfriend's phone. I did a android backup before doing it and I have it both on my SD card and on the phone. The upgrade went wrong (dont'know why i was having many crashes of some apps) so i decided to restore the android backup. I have tarp recovery and i'm having two problems. The first one is when I select MD5 check: it's written MD5 failed to match on... maybe because I followed the guide about creating an MD5 blank file ( I was having problems in matching MD5). When I uncheck the MD5 check box, the backup starts and it seems it works, but when I press reboot the system it says NO OS INSTALLED. I need some help please I've tried for two hours fixing it.
What partitions did you backup and try to restore? Sounds like /system or /boot didn't backup or restore properly. You could try to reinstall the original rom she was on and then do just a /data restore and see if that works. Other than that, either another rom or back to stock are the main options. What was going wrong on the new rom? Did you try to upgrade by dirty flashing - as in not wiping /data? Sometimes it also helps to format /system too when upgrading the rom to make sure there's nothing leftover. Also, getting the correct Gapps are important for everything to run correctly.
PS: I've been having some issues with backups in TWRP on my phone as well and wasn't able to restore /data and if I just choose to restore just boot and /system then it would at least boot backup and be usable. I'm not sure if this is a similar issue to yours or just phone specific.
