Howdy.. Been building custom kodi apk's on various platforms and just picked up a nexus player.
Here is Kodi 14.2 (x86) apk modified to be the "leanback" launcher. This is a straight GIT pull.
Just sideload it and press your home key on the remote and android will ask if it should be the new home launcher.
Some tips.. You can access your android apps from kodi programs/android apps menu. You CANNOT however launch the stock "Home Launcher" from kodi. So be sure you have everything set as you like before replacing the stock launcher or sideload an additional launcher that you can launch from kodi to get back to things like settings.

Depends on your ROM. The stock rom has NO settings.apk and can only access settings from the home launcher. CM12.x and other roms have a seperate settings.apk which can be run from kodi.

Hm can you post some screenshots? I already have my kodi on forge configured etc.. so I wouldn't want to do it all over again.
Thanks a lot. And also you could ARM version? I am still not 100% sure what you mean by compiled to be the leanback launcher that's why I'd love to see it lol
EDIT: ok backed up Kodi data it appears to be a launcher, same thing does XBMC Launcher for a second I thought you somehow integrated Kodi into the leanback launchers tiles on top lol.

I think your missing the point. This is Kodi, compiled to be the launcher. What you are using is kodi + another app the launches it. Both do the same job, however if kodi is the launcher your box can boot and only load kodi without other things going on in the background to take up resources. For example... in your situation your box is booting and running the home launcher (which is getting reccomendations for its screen using network and cpu resources, you are also running xbmc launcher which runs kodi. Doing it with this apk allows your system to boot direct to kodi.

Yea I see what you mean by that when I had Fire TV w/ root that would be perfect as well. I actually use Hal Luancher so I can customize it a little more. I also use Kodi 15.0 on my razer forge nightly, you should also do the ARM version for other android tv devices many people would like that

Hi,
I picked up a touchpad when HP held their second firesale. I loaded Android shortly after and have been running Alpha 3.5.
I would like some feedback on what are some must have utility apps for this combination of hardware and software.
So far I have AVG anti-virus, android pro widgets, and adw free launcher. I have downloaded CPU master free but haven't turned it on yet.
What are some other utilities you consideration must have.
Thanks,
Rick
hmmm...depends what sort of apps you are after, quick office, adobe reader enhanced email, evernote & skitch for the productivity stuff.
android pro widgets is a good one allows you good selection of widgets to cover the large screen (except email)
if you're after a nice clock HD widgets works well.
Choice (the free will android offers ) is yours pretty much
My suggestions:
Airdroid for quick access to the Touchpad.
Rom Toolbox and/or Titanium Backup in case you need it.
SetCPU is another option instead of CPU master free.
File Expert is often helpful
Quick Settings for turning options.
bye the way: Quite a number of apps and games are available and are really worth.
You wil find it on the market or also at getjar (m.getjar.com)
Thank you both for the replies. My original post was about utilities for the OS and software. Having said that, I'm looking for all good app recommendations.
I have installed several highly praised apps like Evernote, Google Maps, etc.
I was wondering if I should get launcher pro. I'm not exactly sure what a launcher does. Will it include new widgets? Does it also add the functionality to change icons?
Again, appreciate all the suggestions and welcome more.
Rick
The launcher is really the interface you see and use to launch apps. I haven't used launcher pro lately and last time I used it, it was not being updated. I think most people either use the default launcher, ADW, or Go launcher. There isn't much harm installing each and trying it other that the time invested setting up the screens. Every time you hit the home button, it will ask which launcher you want to use. When you find one you like, check make default and uninstall the others.

Its not needed.
What about Advanced Task Killer. That is not needed either, right?
I would suggest (in addition to what you have, thought I agree you don't need AVG):
root explorer (file browser with root access and built in text editor)
HashDroid (md5 checker to doublecheck downloads were successful)
amazon market (free app a day, can't go wrong with that)
mClock (fully customizable clock widget)

Absolutely not. Task killers work against how android works, and will actually use more battery.

Not exactly true, there ARE Android viruses (at least, by most people's definition of virus... there are no true viruses but the same could be said for Windows)
However, they're far and few, and you can only really get one if you carelessly install something without knowing what it is. The Android Market shows you application permissions needed before installing for that very reason, for example if a live wallpaper needs to read your contact info then something is wrong.
File Expert -->Powerful File Manager/WIFI File Transfer Web & FTP/App Manager
Super Manager -->All in One powerful system utility (backup apk in "Readable Display Name").
Do u know any other utility capable of this apart "AppMonster"?
I am currently running the Xeron Beta 2.9 build, which is ICS themed just a little.
But these are my downloaded apps:
Ice Cream Sandwich (theme) for adw and go launchers [replaces the stock icons to ice cream sandwich]
Clean Clock Widget [a nice 3x2 widget for showing time and date]
Dropbox [enables me to transfer some apk's files without the hassle and using usb]
ES File Explorer [file manager with root access to remove unwanted apps/bloat ware]
Firefox [best browser imo with access to my desktop bookmarks, and quick access to the address bar]
AnTuTu CPU Master (free) [overclocked my tablet to 1512 MHz]
Tiwiz ICS Search Bar [adds google search widget ICS themed]
Thanks for all replies. I'm going to the app store and checking out all recommendations. Keep them coming.
Forgot to mention this theme:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311339
Ignore the error message about screen size when you install, it works and looks fantastic! I love how the wifi and battery are the same color now, and the notification window is shaded so it's easier to tell when it's up. Also it makes the soft buttons more consistent with ICS.
Hello,
first of brilliant work.
There are only one thing missing from the basic desktop (in this case laptop) functionality, which stop me from using this on a daily basis.
The problem is that the windows don't have any scrollbars. It very challenging to browse websites (i have to long press and drag my finger on the minute trackpad).
I am sure many users will view this as a powerful alternative of a laptop os, such as i do.
Hope you can implement these features in a near future.
Keep it up.
Regards
Any advance made in this?
Ive bought a bew computer becaus emy previous wasnt compatible now im loving it i definitely miss the scrol. Mine is touch screen but i can just image your pain..
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
it is very difficult to get anything done with a trackpad without scrollbars, just take a look at all the fus when google devs removed the scrollbars from chrome... they had to revert it back due to public demanding them.
But even with a mouse the scrollbars are usefull because you can easily go to a specific place on a web page (just an example)
For track pads use two fingers and slide your fingers up or down.
Does anyone know how to enable scroll bars or scrubber bars in Remix OS? I have seen this option in UI Launchers e.g.: CM Launcher with some of its installable themes. However, Remix OS does not allow you to install your own UI Launcher. Furthermore, does the default ui launcher of Remix OS allow you to install themes because then one could create one's own installable theme with scroll bars and scrubber bars.
This key feature is still not implemented in remix beta
Do developers read this fórum?

Yes.... completly.
To bad other people don't see this. I guess it is because they use a mouse/touch instead of trackpad.
Hi guys!
As the thread title says, what do you use as your Launcher on YB Android?
Stock one works, but I am curious to see if anyone here used a different launcher. I am tempted to try out Leena or Sentio to replicate that netbook/PC look.
Installed the Arrow launcher a couple of days ago and am in the process of getting used to it. So far so good especially for the just released tablet version. A decent review (of the phone version) that was done before the last update can be found here:
http://www.androidcentral.com/microsofts-arrow-launcher-astonishingly-good
Cool! Will have a look!
Tried Squarehome 2 for that Surface look..and I think I'll stick with it for a while as its the closest to a usable notebook environment..
Sentio is good, just doesn't load automatically while Leena needs a lot of improvement (like desktop icon sizes can't be resized independently of the font)..
I use Apex Launcher on all my android stuff.
It's hard to find launcher that properly support landscape tablet layouts.
The best I've found were ADW launcher 2 and Arrow launcher (it has a new tablet option).
In the end I went back to the stock Lenovo launcher.
Apex does work good on tablet landscape mode, plus we can change icons and layout plus gestures as well..

What permissions does this Apex has? Has any one thought about what kind of data these launchers steal?
I use Nova Launcher across all my Android devices (phones & tablets). Zero problems.
Does any launcher has the 'back, home, apps' icons grouped towards the left corner of the task bar, like the stock launcher? Its convenient.
2 Similar to the stock launcher, do they show the running apps icon in the task bar?
I try leena desktop UI from play store ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.m_lang.leena) it's fine but not perfect.
I tried Microsoft Launcher, and it seems to work for me. The new tablet implementation got better, and also looks nice without having to spend a lot of time customizing it.
I use LaunchTime an open launcher from fdroid open android apps. works well for 6" and larger screens
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.quaap.launchtime/
Squarehome 2
YB with other android launchers.

I currently have multiple launchers installed on my YB, including Sentio Launcher. I am using Go Launcher HD as my primary, but Microsoft Launcher and Square Home.Tablet also work fine.
I am using Nova Launcher as I do on the majority of my devices. It is clean and gives mena nice dock for the media consumption apps I use most frequently.

Question - how did you get rid of the Lenovo app drawer icon in the bottom left next to the recent app icon? I've been dying to try and figure that out.

Mark, had to think about this one for a minute and then realized the answer was in the screen shot itself.
Short answer: Can't be doe
Rationale: In the top right hand corner of the display, you can see the icon indicating that the screen shot was taken while having the tablet in "laptop mode". While in laptop mode, the app launcher icon disappears because you have the dedicated key on the keyboard to get to the app launcher. It would be a redundancy to have both. I tried it out and as soon as the tablet is in either tent mode or display/tablet mode, the app launcher shortcut re-appears.
Its also a custom version of Android MM, and most of the system UI tweaks don;t work.
I actually did find a way - I installed this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=xyz.paphonb.systemuituner
It did the trick! I am very happy that it did.
Hi.
Tanix TX6s (Allwiner H616) Android 10 with root.
Default launcher: ALICE UX CAN'T CHANGE?
This device forces the use of the ALICE UX launcher (standard and proprietary).
I define another launcher (*) by default, but when the box is initialized, the ALICE UX launcher returns.
I cannot place any widget. The following message appears: it was not possible to add / restore this widget.
IMPORTANT: The two items of Tanix TX6s (Allwiner H616) Android 10, must be related to the way the OS was implemented to make ALICE UX persistent.
I thank you for your attention and kindly ask for tips to solve the situations presented above!
Good weekend.
(*) Example: Smart Launcher, Apex Launcher, Nova Launcher, etc...
because of the lack of touch you should only be trying android TV launchers.
I've seen videos of people using them as replacements.
try downloading something and then freezing the original if the new ATV launcher doesn't stay as default.

Tks @3mel
Your tip to freeze, it worked!
On the first attempt, I installed another launcher and uninstalled Alice UX. An error occurred and I had to update the firmware again with Phoenix Suite.
On the second attempt, I installed another launcher and, using the Disable Application 3.4.1 application (com.iamaner.oneclickfreeze) (Google Play Store), I frozen Alice UX. It worked, now the TX6s starts with the other launcher and remains on it.
Note 1: The limitations imposed by Android 10 on TX6s remain, therefore, additional features of the other launcher, such as: widgets, do not work.
Note 2: if you are going to change the initiator as mentioned above: do it at your own risk. Thank you so much!
@3mel
Now that I am able to use the launcher of my choice, I would like to:
1) use widgets,
2) view recent items to close,
3) view lower bar (navigation) and upper notifications bar.
Do you or your friends have any tips?

from what I've read these are all rom related restrictions and not launcher related. widgets just don't work no matter the launcher and earlier boxes had custom roms made for them in order to get a recents and notification bar.
I'd love those last two myself.
@3mel
Thank you for your reply.
Maybe one day the solution will appear.
I would also like the last two.

No, I was asking if you are using the default 1+ launcher, which apparently you are.
I was referring to alternative launchers (home screen) such as Lawnchair, MS, Nova, and others.
looking at the play store reviews ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.oneplus.launcherlooking ) it seems you aren't the only one with issues.

Thank you for your answer. The link does not work for me... Which launcher do you recommend?
Nova has a huge fan base and is well liked
I haven't used Lawnchair for a while, but it used to be very pixel like
I've been using the MS launcher for several years because I like how it handles the app drawer and home buttons.
Try various ones. If you don't like it just go to settings/default apps, change the Home app back to OnePlus then delete the one you didn't like and try another.
Okay I have recieved an update because phone is not mine, but the owner of the phone already tried changing the launcher to google now launcher. It did not fix an issue. And just to add something to the post the shortcuts are missing after every reboot of the phone and not after updates it was my bad at the first post.
Sorry, of it is happening with the Google launcher and the OnePlus launcher after each reboot try asking in the OnePlus community
