Recovering Deleted files... - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all!!
Have had a major mess up happen to me not too long ago...
I did a bit of filming on my phone, and when I got home, I used AndroVid to trim a few clips up.
But it seems to have not bothered actually trimming them and has just deleted them off my phone!
I have looked everywhere in every single folder and I'm pretty sure it has deleted them...
Is there anyway I could recover these files at all???
Cheers!
Keith

MicroDrives are sensitive to presuure; when you were rising or descending, the change in pressure could have caused the damage.
recommendation: turn off the device for take-off and landing.
My buddy had a similar problem with his. His MicroDrive stopped working. WMStorage didn't fix the issue either. He was running the original ROM that came with the device and some software, nothing more. The only thing that brought back the drive was to do a hard reset, then flash the factory ROM back onto the device. I've had issues with the drive myself so run everything off of my SD Card and only use the MicroDrive for temporary storage or backups of my SD Card. This sucks that we can't trust the drive. Just makes me nervous using it.
agreed! I'd rather prefer 4gig flash memory to a 8gig unsafe microdrive.
but it's all about marketing issues
very true..all my data was lost...i guess it ISS becuz of the rise in pressure and all that,..but my microdrive izz up and working again..!
My microdrive had corrupted twice before, and I had thought that using the miniSD would completely solve the problem. I was wrong.
Yesterday, my genuine Toshiba miniSDHC lost everything on it. I could not recover it with Pocket Mechanics Professional. Soft reset does not help, as it did previously. I don't know if this was caused my the repeated removal and insertion if card which performed in attempting to fix my SIP selection problem.
The lessen for me is, do a regular backup to PC and do not take out and put in the card without switching off the device.
I still have not reinstalled my applications and data yet because today is the day to upgrade my Dopod to WM6. I'm really looking forward to the upgrade. I expect some of my applications to be dumped for compatibility reason, not in the end I'd have a transformed and better computer.
Htc Advantage Microdrive Failure
I want to add my voice to the concerns raised regarding the much sung about MicroDrive with 8GB.
I have lost all the data I installed and stored on the MicroDrive. I had photos, documents - some of them work related and do not have them anywhere at all.
Does anyone have any idea how I can undelete or recover these?
By the way, I did not delete them, they were simply gone!
Please help.

Try to use WMStorage which will allow the drive/s to be recognized under Windows as an external storage drive. Then get yourself a copy of Ontrack Easy Recovery and use that to recover the lost files. I've never had to recover files from my MD or SD yet on my phone but my cousin had a camera that did something like this....all pictures just dissappeared and I used the program and got back stuff he forgot about that had been looooong gone. Works well. Hope this helps
curious?

Thanks ltxda, I will try your advice right away.
YOSEFE.
Thanks ltxda for pointing me to WMStorage. I downloaded and installed the software. My Devive and the Microdrive are recognised as you stated.
However, the only hitch I hit is the cost of Ontrack Easy Recovery, is there no free reliable recovery software somewhere?
Thanks in anticipation.

Not sure if there is a free trial available or not. You may want to check their site. I just have a copy since I purchased one for work. You can also go to www.download.com and try one of the other recovery software trials from there. I'm sure there are a few there that may help or you could try alternate resources.

I agree with you. Makes me sick that I have this EXPENSIVE device and don't have enough trust in the one feature they pushed because of the constant problems.
Have some questions for you:
- How were you transferring files to the MD? ActiveSync, Vista or WMStorage?
- Would you mind posting the resolution here in case others have the same problem?

Care to share your solution mate.
just use the
sorry guys been busy at work, i didnt really fix it without losing my data. i just used the restore microdrive option and then re-format it, lost all my data but at least its working. lol. still pissed off though.
i fiqured some bits out though, wether your using active sync or wm5torage 1.75 and your transfering huge amount of data at once windows then give an error cant complete , cant find drive source.
So I had to do all the restore microdrive thing again but was just testing why it happen the first time.
good thing to do is to use wm5torage 1.75 to transfer but only transfer some amount and wait for awhile and continue.
File Scavenger
File Scavenger is much cheaper for recovering files. It works perfectly for me. The demo is a teaser. It works but doesnot let you recover files. It shows that it can recover the files.

THANKS MATE i just tried it.

[Q] Recovering data from broken SGSII

Hello everyone,
first-timer, so I hope I won't screw up!
My Samsung Galaxy SII I9100 is broken. And I don't just mean the screen (which is what I found threads on aplenty on here), I mean really broken.
It won't turn on at all. No Recovery/Download-mode, either. The only reaction it shows at all is when I plug it into a computer via USB, the area around the camera starts heating up slightly. That's it.
The last thing I did with it was visiting facebook when my phone froze up, I turned it off and it didn't start back again. It might have been exposed to a certain high temperature from the sun when I had it in my pocket but it's unlikely it reached any temperature above 40°C/104°F.
I was running the latest Cyanogen Mod 9 for SGSII.
Anyway, this thread is less about trying to find a fix for my phone (though if you can help me with that –*cool) but instead I'd like to know if there's a way to recover the data on my phone. That includes photos and music, possibly contacts, messages and Whatsapp-content.
If there is any way to do that, no matter what, I'd like to hear about it. I'm thinking about sending it in to get it repaired but before I do, I'd like to hear about my other options.
Thank you very much in advance.
Almost zero chance. The fix is replacing the motherboard, which has the internal storage on it. A company that specialises in recovery of data from dead HDD's might (but it's a very remote chance, and expect it to be very expensive if it is possible) be able to help, but you really don't have any options (shoulda/coulda/woulda backed it up).

Figured as much... I guess I'll cross my fingers when I send the little bastard in for repair/data-recovery.
I did a back-up on a whim some months ago so at least some stuff is saved but I got some new data on it since then, so that would have been nice.
Anyway, thank you very much. I just ordered a USB-jig as a last resort but I'm not having high hopes.

[Q] S3 device memory full (like totally!) but can't find the files?

I've been searching for days now, I can't find any mention of the same problem. So I finally thought I should just ask here...
Both my wife and I have an S3 i9300. Mine is 15 months old, my wife has had her S3 for only three months now. Devices are not rooted. On my previous Galaxy S phone I have mucked about a lot with custom ROMs. but this phone works so well I've not found it necessary to interfere.
However, for some time now, the Device Memory of my wife's phone has been almost completely filled up.
Out of 16 Gb she has about 650 Mb left (my older phone still had 6.3 Gb). So with 4.6Gb of System memory and some Cache and Misc., there's over 10 Gb of "stuff" on her phone. In Android 4.3 (previous, 4.2.1(?) wouldn't even calculate it) the Storage tab told us there was almost 10Gb of photos and videos on the phone as can be seen in the attached photo.
In the Gallery it showed a 1000 Picasa pictures. Too round a number so it might be more. My wife threw those out of Picasa on the PC and afterwards closed the sync options on the phone. Then we stopped the gallery, emptied the cache and deleted the data. Now the Picasa pictures are no longer in the Gallery, there's about 60 pics left in there, Can't be more than 200 Mb. But according to the Storage tab there's still 10 Gb of photo's on the phone! Not only is this phone slower than mine, it sometimes even crashes. We rebooted the phone a number of times.
I can't find those files! They're not in either SDcard, not in the level up from there marked "/" in the file manager. As the phone is not rooted and my wife doesn't want it mucked about with, I can't go further than that.
My phone is a year older and I take way more photo's than her and I have 120Mb of 'em on my phone. Other sections of the memory like the System Memory are comparable to mine in size, or way smaller, like she has less than half the number of apps I have.
My wife is an MD, she uses the phone often for patient calls. She is very dependent on it. So she doesn't want me to muck about with it. Doesn't want it rooted. Also she doesn't look forward to doing a factory reset and reinstalling the lot. Especially redoing the homescreens. She has a lot of them, which seems to work for her, but is timecomsuming to redecorate. Then there's re-freezing the apps Google and Samsung seem to deem necessary to have on there that we don't use. Without option to remove. And it might not even work, since factory reset usually leaves your personal stuff (music, documents, photo's, etc) alone.
Does anyone know how to find/remove these files?
You can use the storage manager in either File Manager or ES File Explorer to see exactly which folders take up the most space.

Is that SD Card Analyst in ES explorer? I'll go take a look.
Double post. Delete won't work? Pressing delete sends me to the edit post window where there is no option to delete.
Yes sd card analyst is another term..

Look here :
Go to /data/media
You should see three folders
0
legacy
obb
Leave these three folders alone and MOVE all the other folders (which you will notice are all your missing folders and files) into the 0 folder. The only folders that should be left behind are the 3 mentioned above.
You will need a root browser to do this
SE analyzer crashes every time. No doubt because the card is so full.
I'll try the "0" method, thanks!
/ Data folder shows empty. No files. I have turned "hidden files" on.
The phone isn't rooted...
I love Android and it's come a long way, but apparently it is still messy.

I guess so... As much as I love android, it still is rather odd that on google android, with a stock samsung phone, upgraded by samsung ota, I need to root it to clean up a mess probably made with a google service... I'll never go Apple, but this wouldn't happen on an iPhone. Otoh, if it did I'd really be sol. Walled up, bunkered in iOS won't let you do anything.
Well, at least I have an idea where to look now.
Thanks all!
I'll go find a rooted kernel and a stock one to get back.

I actually own an ipad 4. Didn't notice any more discomfort than usual on it after the iOS 7 update. Yes, there was a bug fix or two, but I had no problem.
Neither do I have a large picasa stash so my phone is fine while my wife's exact same phone is gasping for air. But probably my phone has these stray files cluttering the space as well, but since there aren't as many, I don't notice.
Keep running into walls on the iPad, though, cause of the apple prison. It's a magnificent piece of hardware, but apple treats their customers as infants and most of them seem to love it. I guess if you have no qualm with only doing what the prison guards let you...
I have it for the music apps. Music reading apps, remote control of the digital mixer for my monitor mix. Those things aren't available on android or all the apples in my house would be edible.
I especially hate the absence of Swiftkey on iOS. Or anything similar. Apple keyboard is so stupid. Such a waste of fantastic hardware ...no apple fan here.
But consider this: here we have a google os, being completelly filled up with files by a google service called picasa, and the only way to get rid of it is breaking the warranty on a three month old phone. Or shipping it back to the store where my wife will be going without for weeks. She is an MD, needs it for patient calls away from her own office. Being without a phone for weeks is not an option. It's ridiculous.

Picasa though I have nvr used it, I suppose it works the same way as dropbox? The files dun actually take up place in the phone. And picasa pictures definitely doesn't take up gbs of space.

I thought so too. But the phone says there's 10gb worth of photos and videos on it and I can't find it.
Picasa is all I can think of with this phone. I'm extremely sure my wife didn't take this much photos in three months or at all. Come to think of it, I can't even imagine she had that much in picasa. We do have pretty large Dropbox accounts, but her account doesn't have much photo's. Mine does. I put our entire photo collection on there in my account which is not shared with hers.
I hope I get some time today to root her phone and finally see what it is. I hope I can undo the rooting damage with CF's triangleaway app.

I alr said dropbox do not use ur phone memory even though ur dropbox acc is large. I have over 20 gb used. And my phone is not even half full and it is only 16 gb internal no external. Picasa works the same way as dropbox too. The pics is in the server, not ur phone.

And I said I believed that too. At least I used to.
But unavoidably there is 10Gb of files on the phone.which the storage says are photos and videos. Storage then puts you through to the gallery, where the greatest number of pics by far were in the picasa folders. It's the only place I can figure out where they could have come from. There's nothing else on the phone! And the DCIM folder is empty.
Apparently there is no way to root it and unroot it again without wiping the phone or setting of some protection or counter.... So, whichever way my wife is faced with needing to reinstall and/or configure all her apps again, which will be another couple of hours. She is about fed up with this on android. She had a sgs1 and an sgs note before, and this is the so-many-est time something is wrong with an android phone. If it happens again I'm going iPhone, she says.
Anyway, ill phone the store tomorrow. I don't want to risk the warranty in case anything more serious happens to it. They better tell me what to do.
Thought I'd let y'all know, a factory reset cleared it all up. Her photos and whatsapp messages and some other stuff are gone, but it isn't a big deal. It's a couple of hours work to get the phone back to where it was. Which is a drag. But the phone is nice and clean again now.
So glad I didn't need to root and flash stuff.
Thanks for all the help and I hope this might help others.

Things to Do Before New Phone

I mistakenly posted this in the Nexus 7 forum so I thought I should repost it here...my replacement phone should be here within the next hour or 2
Well it finally happened. ...for the first time I cracked the screen of my note 2. I dropped it on my concrete garage floor & it landed right on it's corner. All those years of paying for insurance paid off and my replacement will be here tomorrow. It's been a while since I had to transfer from one phone to another. I know Titanium Backup to backup my apps & data, texts, phone logs...I need to transfer any photos over....What am I missing? Also before sending my old phone back I need to get it back to stock...what's a good stock rom to use? Anything else I'm forgetting? I thought there was a thread about this somewhere but I can't find it. Thanks for the help
Well I got the replacement phone from Assurion, spent 2 hours setting it up & the S Pen don't work at all! I call Assurion & they tell me the S Pen isn't covered under the warranty!!! WTF is that? The S Pen is part of the phone!!! Has anyone ever had this issue with them before?

ok I have a idea that work for me also, I had the same problem if you have a Google account you can download the Google drive app to store away all your videos and photos away, but to make everything organize I have a app called root explorer and its link with my google drive account.
I dont know if you ever notice if you take a photo with a Samsung, the photo details says something like this? (20140424_112024) if you brake into that you can see what day that photo was taken (Y2014-M04-D24_11:20:24s) thats awesome but in root explorer under the google drive tab, you can just make a 2014 file and within that file you can make a month file like April and with in that file you can make a day like 24 and leave all the photo you taken that day there to keep it neatly. thats an idea, cause I hate to see my family photo taken within a whole year disorganize in one huge file cause i can find what im looking for.

LG G5 6.0.1 Help Recover Deleted Photo Album

Hi Community,
I have an LG G5 (LGLS992) from Sprint running Android 6.0.1. The phone currently has no SD card and is not rooted.
I just got back from a weekend trip with my family and was cleaning out some old photos before backing them up when I accidentally deleted my main album. I know that you can recover recently deleted photos, but I cannot find any way to recover the album.
I spent hours last night trying to find some way to recover the album to no avail. From what I have read, it seems as though I am SOL unless my phone is rooted. So far, it appears that the LG G5 that I have is not rootable...yet.
I believe that I can recover the files if I can get the phone to read as a mass storage device with a drive letter, but I cannot find any way to get the phone to show up with a drive letter.
Does anyone know of a way to recover my deleted album? I am desperate as many of those photos were of my children over the past few weeks.
Please spare the backup, backup, backup comments...I am usually very good about that and preach it to my wife. My a$$ is sore from me kicking it.
I am grateful for any help,
The_Swish
I've used this method before
https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-recover-deleted-photos-on-android
If no PC/Mac, try one of these (untested by me)
http://androidadvices.com/apps-recover-deleted-photos-android-phone/
Thanks for the reply. Those solutions pretty much require the phone to be rooted. Don't believe the LG G5 is capable of being rooted...yet.
The most that I've found so far is thumbnails of the photos.
