Moto X XT1060 re-root VZW after [KXA21.12-L1.26] Moto X ver. 4.4.4
So without checking before updating to 4.4.4 version 231.46.1.ghost_ _en.US *my build number has a ".1"* KXA21.12-L1.26.1. I lost root access, was kinda bummed, so I tried a few methods to re-flash to get root access again. And a few trial and error I was able to get root access again.
My setup and steps:
My setup:
Moto X Dev.Ed. XT1060 vzw
Macbook / terminal
Got recovery images and steps from flashing bacak to stock at www.motorola.com, follow steps got back to stock minus relock bootloader (still unlocked bootloader), used the fastboot from the "Darwin" folder
Step from www.motorola.com:
$ fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
$ fastboot flash motoboot motoboot.img
$ fastboot reboot-bootloader
$ fastboot flash logo logo.bin
$ fastboot flash boot boot.img
$ fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
$ fastboot flash system system.img
$ fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin -*** I skipped this step was following older step from text file
$ fastboot erase modemst1
$ fastboot erase modemst2
$ fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
$ fastboot reboot
Lost root access, FML!
Solution:
Used old twrp recovery - TWRP 2.6.3.1 for Android 4.4 [2013-11-19] *big up to hashcode :good:* got root access again,
Hope this helps

Do you have another link to that Rom? FileFactory keeps telling me they are overloaded and it won't let me DL. Side note, I've already tried the 139-64_65 file from https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=72578 and no luck. Still get stuck at Recovery saying "we have attempted a detect to flash." I'm hoping your ROM link is slight different, because the one I found has oem.img as one file, not two sparsechunks. I'm pretty sure I have a real brick.

You must already have ADB and fastboot setup, check here if you haven't already as using adb/fastboot isn't within the scope of this thread.
How to Install ADB on Windows, macOS, and Linux
1. Download the file and extract the zip archive
2. Extract all the files to your fastboot folder. (Not needed if you have adb and fastboot added to the path, if you want to know how to do this, check this guide: How to Use ADB or Fastboot From Any Directory on your Windows/Linux PC)
3. Restart the device in fastboot/bootloader mode and connect to your PC.
4. Make sure the system detects the device in fastboot mode, to verify this your command window/terminal shows a serial number when you type:
Code:
fastboot devices
5. Use the following commands now or you can use the flash scripts provided as attachments to this post:
NOTE: SKIP the oem lock begin and the oem lock commands if you dont want to lock your bootloader
Linux users will need to change the extension to .sh and add sudo before each command or directly run it as a root user .
To simply flash, run the "OEM Flash" file; to lock the bootloader, run "OEM Lock" file.
Manual method:
Code:
fastboot oem lock begin
fastboot oem lock begin
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

Please help me , If you find any useful link please provide me. my region is India.
If I do complete flash of your Verizon's model Z2 on my Indian Z2 unit , whether it will work for me ??? If you have any idea for the Z2 play (General Global unit) , please share us, we will be very thankful to you. Main thing is this it is the new phone so very difficult to find and remedy so far. Verizon operates in US and you flashed that for Indian version.Why?There is no official ROM out yet.
Most importantly you did not backup the ROM.
My advice would be try clearing the cache,factory reset.
Moto by Lenovo doesn't provide regular updates.
It is better to wait until Lineage OS pays a visit.
Cheers
wait how did you unlock the verizon version?
Update
New firmware BUILD NPSS26.118-19-4 for RETAIL models is added to the downloads.

Hi, do you know if is possible to flash the retail firmware to single sim version? (Vodafone, unlocked)
Hello,
I've accidentally did the oem lock...
What can I do to reverse this?
Do I have to send the smartphone back to Motorola?
Says boot image not signed, it does flash the firmware however it does not have fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7 in the zip folder so it doesn't actually flash it. However it does boot up and work like normal.
any word on this working on the canadian version?
it reads as XT1710-01 in fastboot
in the OS my current build number reads as NPSS26.118-19-11 ... i assume thats just a slightly newer version
and so, installing this would return the phone to pure stock - allow OTA and all that fun stuff?

Does this work for the xt1710-09 reteu version?
Can't flash this on xt1710-09 reteu. Says boot.img is not signed. I SO DESPERATELY want to relock my bootloader.. but it doesn't seem to work Any ideas?
I can confirm XT1710-01 works for Freedom Mobile in Canada.
I was rooted and the Motorola got into a Recovery bootloop after a security update. Makes me miss the peace of mind of Cyanogen. Hopefully LinageOS will come here soon.

Help! First time trying to flash a ROM and it doesn't go well So far
I got my hand on a chinese Model of the phone. It says XT1710-11. From the first day I was fed up with their safecenter telling me everything on my phone was a virus. Then I realised I could not remove it because it was part of the "Firmware". Things got really bad when I could not use Pinterest or Twitter on the phone. I still dont know why.
So I remembered there was this thing called root that might be helpful. I started experimenting on it and I was finally able to root and installed magisk. But I still didnt know what to do so I decided it will be better to just flash a new ROM and found this trhread....
As I am writing this my phone doesnt have a OS, Back up was wiped at a point I even had to reflash TWRP and remount Data to be able to do anything with it.
I have an old iphone5 lying around that I will go back to in the mean time. But guys please help a poor lost soul. Is there a solution to my trouble?

Moto G5S Plus - TWRP Recovery Boot Loop

Hey everyone, I just flashed my Moto G5S with a custom ROM (8.1 Pixel Experience).
Everytime I start it, it just goes into TWRP recovery mode. If I hold the Power+Volume buttons, and then select "Start", then it will boot into the Android OS. But if I leave it alone, then it just boots into TWRP Recovery mode.
How do I resolve this? it sounds like the boot order is not correct... but I don't know how to fix this.
EDIT: I have tried running the commands below in TWRP Terminal. They did not help
dd if=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota of=/sdcard/fota-backup.img
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/fota
Thank you all so much.
Same problem
I'm having exactly the same problem.
I've tried every single thing I can think of so far, including reverting everything back to stock.
Even when I revert the recovery img back to stock, it still tries to boot into recovery and just has a screen with the android logo and one word: "error".
I think that we need the moto G5 plus equivalent of "blank flash". EDIT: I'm not allowed to post links, so replace DOT with . here: cloudDOTEvache-androidDOTcom/Moto/potter/blankflash/
I'll try flashing this and see if it works.
Solved!!
I was finally able to solved this with the following steps:
Download the latest stock rom and firmware. There are lots of links around (sorry, I still can't post links). I used the Feb 2018 version.
Extract the zip file to the same places as fastboot. Boot into the bootloader.
1: Check your device is connected in fastboot mode
Code:
fastboot devices
If your device is listed then proceed.
2. flash bootloader
Code:
fastboot flash partition gpt.bin
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
This might be enough - I didn't test it but you could try booting back into twrp and reinstalling your custom ROM here.
2. flash stock ROM ( and everything else)
I got a couple of error messages about signing with bad keys here, just ignore them.
Code:
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash dsp adspso.bin
fastboot flash oem oem.img
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.0
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.1
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.2
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.3
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.4
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.5
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.6
fastboot flash system system.img_sparsechunk.7
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase customize
fastboot erase clogo
4: Optional: relock bootloader
Code:
fastboot oem lock
5: Reboot and rejoice! (hopefully)
Code:
fastboot reboot
6: Reflash TWRP and then sideload Magisk for root
Reboot back into bootloader.
Download lastest TWRP for Moto G5S plus. Mine is called twrp-sanders-r16.im
g:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp-sanders-r16.img
Get the latest Magisk from their website. Mine is v16.0.
In TWRP go to advanced -> sideload. Then:
Code:
adb sideload Magisk-v16.0.zip[CODE]
And you are done! Good luck :D
Thank you. I will give this a shot when I have a moment. At least I can still use my phone and it's not a brick. I'll come back with an update!
Success!
The previous suggestion worked... thank you so much!

Help with twrp bootloop.. I use twrp r20 for Sanders unofficial
Hi,
I got the same issue. Can load fine with Start from Bootloader, but after next Restart, it's stuck on TWRP bootloop again.
I installed Pixel Experience, TWRP 3.2.1 r20 and Magisk 17.1
I used fastboot to load each file as you suggested, but still don't work.
Any idea where it might be wrong?
Thanks!
Fix bootloop in twrp MOTO G5 PLUS, works too in G5 s Plus

[FASTBOOT ROM] OREO Retail OPS27.76-12-25 (April) using Fastboot

Hi all, i have found this on Motozbrasil Blogspot.
It reported XT1710-01, XT1710-02, XT1710-06, XT1710-07, XT1710-09 e XT1710-10 models as working, but my XT1710-08 works too (see details in this post).
>>>> All credits and thanks go to motozbrasil and its staff. It is not my creation, i have just shared and reported my personal experience with my XT1710-08, not listened on that site.
A special, big, superb thanks to Junior Passos @Junior Passos the op of the motozbrasil thread. <<<
Basical steps:
1) Install drivers (Win) and reboot pc;
2) Unzip firmware and ADB + FASTBOOT - MZ2PLAY in the same folder (thanks to htcmania for package);
3) Put your phone in fastboot mode (Vol down + Power) then Connect to pc, waiting for drivers if needed;
4) Double click on z.bat (edit it with your own commands or use my zips attached changing "mfastboot" voices with "fastboot", so delete "m" from every single command), press a button.
Profit.
We needed a retail fastboot Oreo rom, so here we are.
All at your own risk.
Good luck.
Due to motozbrasil site down on link posted, i linked new adb fastboot and Installer. As soon as possibile i will change and upload installers attached.
Other links for rom only, here (thanks @thedoginthewok):

Linux doesn't need drivers.
How to install adb/fastboot on linux, macos, win (depends on your distro): https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
If you are under Ubuntu the easiest way for installing adb-tools is (from terminal):
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot

Command under Terminal (Win/Linux) are:

fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn

In some cases (for example XT1710-08) is useful to skip (if you come from NPSS26.118-19-1-6):
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2

Click to collapse
If you pass directly from ZUI skip also:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin

Those for preserving signal and data connection.

If you have a corrupted boot.img and you are not able to flash (like bangood or other shops do with chinese model), you first have to give that:
fastboot flashing unlock

Click to collapse
Hope is useful.
Link above are for Win (1st) and Linux (2nd)**.
** if you use attached .sh remember you have to connect you phone in fastboot mode to pc and then double click on it in the same folder you have unzipped firmware. Attached .bat and .sh files evading erase modemst1 and st2, so it is good for some brand device, not for other.
Remember, all at your own risk.
Thanks @KirMit
I confirm, that all is working after update on XT1710-11 (China Mobile), BUT! do not flash all - skip:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash fsg fsg.mbn
fastboot erase modemst1
fastboot erase modemst2
If you want your modems and fingerprint sensor are still working!

I've had trouble with the download myself (hat to restart a couple of times), so I uploaded it to Google Drive and Mega.

I've successfully upgraded my phone (XT1710-09) to oreo with this.
My phone is bootloader unlocked and was rooted with Magisk. before this.
TWRP was overwritten with stock recovery, but after reflashing I can't get it to decrypt, so no root for now. But everything else is working fine.
Thank you

Relocking bootloader after downgrading from 11 to 10 possible?

Hello everyone,
I bought a Moto G Power that came with Android 11 and it's so laggy. I used to own this device on 10 and it was great. Well, I've downgraded to Android 10 successfully using the ROM files from Lenovo Rescue and Smart Assistant and flashing them with Platform Tools but afterrelocking the bootloader successfully using '.\fastboot oem lock' and rebooting the phone it says No OS is found. Is it even possible to relock the bootloader after downgrading on this device and booting into Android 10 even if it's an official firmware from Lenovo?
I'm using these instructions to flash the Android 10 files:
Moto G Power flashing guide
This guide also applies on other Moto phones shipping with Android 10 (not compatible with phone updated from Android 9) Requirements: * Adb must be up to date. You will use new fastbootd interface. You can toggle between bootloader and...

Thanks everyone!
It's possible but you have to flash everything clean from adb using factory files found at https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/sofia/official/ There used to be an automated batch file for windows users I think, not sure since I use linux.
I'm sure there is a guide around somewhere for it regarding installing android platform-tools and the commands.

Yep I've tried that and also while on 10 and 11 I've pulled the ROM file folder from Lenovo rescue itself so I have the exact copy of the firmware. Still nothing. Weirdly when I'm on Android 10 and lock the bootloader I receive an error when using Lenovo Rescue to install Android 10 from them just to see what happens. Something about flash partition failed.

I would forego anything to do with Lenovo Rescue, its unecessary and its automated process may be the thing at fault here. I suggest just grabbing the Android 10 factory files and flashing them manually with adb and see if the flash goes through that way. Just fished out the commands for you:
