Hello all,i'm using a 16Gb N9 WiFi only version,i'm on 5.1.1 stock rooted, mainly for AdAway use...I've been experiencing wierd issues for the last week or so,when either double tapping the screen, which doesn't seem to work 100% as has been until now.
What's more, i'm using a Moko Flip Case and flipping the cover doesn't always work as well. These are not concerning by themselves but despite which way i try to use to turn on the screen (double tapping, opening the cover, pushing power button) when the screen turns on and i swipe to unlock then immediately the screen turns off ,no matter how many tries i try to swipe to unlock,it turns off thus making a need for rebooting mandatory....
Has anyone else experienced this? Should i factory reset the tablet or is there a fix, mainly for the last part..Thanks for taking the time to read this!
Workaround
It has been happening ever since upgrade to 5.1.1. Reboot fixes it but is annoyance. I tried wiping cache and factory reset, but the issue still persists. The easiest solution is to left swipe on the camera to open the camera app, then use the back button to come back to login screen. This time around the pattern will work.

Does the problem go away when you take off the flip case? If so, put it back on and see whether you can make the screen go black depending on how you fold the case behind the tablet. If it's one of those three-part covers, flip the case to the back, then flip the outer third over once more - does that turn off the screen? The screen turns off when the magnets on the case and on the N9 are aligned, and this can also happen with the case flipped to the back.

Indeed it does go away without the case, I do have one of these three part covers. It works fine when the cover is on the back but I left for a business trip and left the cover at home at the moment. I'll definitely try when I get back! Thanks for the info!!
Sorry I was busy and didn't have time to check xda... Thanks both for your answers!!
My wife is having this same problem with the Nexus 9 I got her for her birthday... I got it with the official keyboard case, but when the problem starts happening, it continues to happen even when the tablet is completely removed from and separated from the case. I also tried running the camera from the lockscreen, returning to the lockscreen, and trying to unlock the tablet without success. She is just using the slide to unlock screen without any security.
weird...lucky mine doesn't do this...or knock on wood, hasnt yet lol
i have double tap to wake up tablet option from eX kernel and i also use a passcode unlock screen and i also have a moko type magnetic case...everything is fine for me(so far...)
ot: what lockscreen app passcode app works so that when u enter 4digits u DON"T have to press the enter key to get in...i hate having to press the enter
in iOS iphone u just need to enter 1 2 3 4 <unlocks> goes to homescreen
stock android : enter 1 2 3 4 ENTER key then it unlocks

My lock screen disappeared on most ROMs including stock. I can't explain when or why exactly; A few weeks after root, but no other halfway relevant events. When I hit power it turns off directly without locking--no power menu either. I unrooted and reinstalled stock and it solved nothing so I'm back to AOKP. Two greedy thieves live with me, three feet tall and prone to sabotage (edit: hmm, wait a minute...) so I need a lockable screen always. Ideas? Thanks.
Edit: This, along with all the the issues in my other posts, turned out to be related to a corrupt efs folder, fixed by repartitioning with a pit file and reflashing stock.

After much reading, it seems that the only known way to toggle Knock On/Off on the Verizon LG G3 is to root.
Because of my work situation and Good For Enterprise, I am unable to root. This has bugged the heck out of me.
I really wish to toggle Knock On/Off as when I'm cleaning the screen, fumbling the phone, etc it likes to wake up. From time to time I would get a stock LG Screen pop up that asked me to toggle this feature. I never did, as I didn't know how to replicate it.
Fast forward to last night. Note: so far I have only gotten this to work with a soft cotton shirt, but was able to replicate it numerous times. I pulled the phone out of my pocket. OCD & tempered glass don't mix. I starting cleaning my screen with my shirt. I had three fingers inside my shirt and start swiping up and down fairly fast with the screen off. Any other time, the screen would wake up, and I would have to manually turn it off to finish cleaning. However, the LG screen popped up asking to turn on/off Knock On. I left it alone, and tried this numerous times with success. I actually got a bit brazen and turned it off. I can tell you it indeed disables knock on as well as knocking off with the status bar (I use Nova). I can verify it works with the screen on as well, so it must have to do with swiping on the status bar.
I tried again this morning with a sweater and have yet to replicate it. If I figure anything more out, I will update this post, but props to Verizon for hiding stock features from us.

Mine turns on every time I wipe it - be it with my T-shirt or actually cleaning it using the wipe and spray I use for my glasses. So it appears the OP isn't doing it wrong. But I'm sure he values you contribution to the topic.

I wasn't aware there was a defined right and wrong way to use a piece of cloth to clean a smartphone screen. Is there any way you could post up a video on YouTube to share? Come to think of it, maybe the feature was always there, VZW just figured everyone was cleaning their screen the right way and wouldn't see it.
THANKS!!!!!

do you have a knock code set? When I had knock code set and I would clean the screen it would come on and I would get failed attempts to unlock. With Knock code turned off the screen says off while cleaning it

If you're not too attached to the stock LG launcher, then I've heard changing your launcher does this. Can't vouche for it as I haven't tried it, but this is what I've read. Might be worth a try if it bugs you that much and you can't root!
supposedly with the new Google Now launcher the knock on and off don't work.
That may be an option for the OP.
I think with Nova launcher you can toggle the knock on and off but I am not sure about that, just what I have read here.
both launchers install without root.

I use the Google Now Launcher and knock code still turns my phone on without problem. I can still knock off but only on the notification bar.
Also, no issues with it turning on when wiping the screen.
One thing that has happened though is sometimes I pull it out of my pocket and end up touching the screen in a way before I enter my knock code that makes it think I put in the wrong code.
That is good to know. I have read of some folks the knock to un-lock stop working after installing a third party launchers

Action launcher has an option for knock off an works great! Knock on as well as knock code works without issues too.
I use nova launcher prime and have mapped the double tap gesture to greenify hibernate and lock. This allows me to use nova but still enjoy double tap to turn off the screen
So i was just forced to install Lollipop by Sprint. I was having a minor S-Pen issues and Sprints "FIX" was to update me to Android 5.0 Lollipop. Well now I have 500000000 other issue with my phone. Most i can live with, but there are 2 in particular that at driving me absolutely bonkers and I cant fix. I was hoping someone around here would have an idea how to fix it without me having to root, and go back to the previous OS. (The Sprint Root seems a little intimidating and I cant afford to brink my phone even for 20 minutes).
The main issues I am having are regarding the lock screen. I cant get the lock screen to stay open more then 3 or 4 seconds and if I botch my pattern or don't swipe fast enough, the screen will turn itself off. Then I have to turn the screen back on and try and unlock it again. Sometimes the screen even turns off in the middle of trying to unlock it. It is EXTREMELY annoying having to try and unlock my phone 4 or 5 times just to get to the notification screen ...... As for the Notification screen, once i finally am able to get my phone unlocked, then when i try and swipe my notification bar the phone will sometimes turn the screen off as well, then I have to go BACK to trying to unlock the phone and try and do everything faster then 2 jack rabbits banging in order to just get to my notifications. Its become a major problem in that sometimes I just cant get the sequence and speed right for 10 or 15 tries.
Anyone else having these issues or have a fix???

I can't say I had any problems like this. I was running Stock rooted OC5 for a while and had really no problems with it. I didn't have any pattern or pin unlock though, so maybe it would have been different? I would have stayed stock but my Flashaholic took hold and made to start trying out other ROMs.
As for rooting, I have found it very easy to root this phone. I haven't had a problem either using auto-root or flashing superSU.

before a factory reset, you might try doing a wipe of the cache partition.
turn your phone off
press and hold, Volume up + home key + power until you see the blue booting to recovery mode message
wait for recovery mode to display (the menu will show after the green robot)
use the volume rocker to move down to wipe cache partition and press the power button to select it.
now select the yes line and press power
now reboot your phone and see if that helps with the lock screen behavior
good luck

Got it quite a few times now. I cant knock on, second screen wont scroll. Turn screen on cant unlock. Have to toggle on and off a few times or just leave it alone for a while and try again.. It doesnt respond to touches at all. Anyone else?
It's happened to me a few times as well, usually when my alarm is going off so it's doubly annoying because i can't hit snooze. I usually end up pulling the battery out for a second, but I really hope they're working on a fix for this.
I just noticed this problem today as well.
I have the AT&T model.
The top left corner of the screen (right below the double cameras) was not responsive at all until I restarted the phone.
Not sure what caused this issue.
The top left off The screen has been unresponsive a number of times. A restart works for a few hours. Then it stops working again...

I'm having an issue with the touch screen in the corners. Top left and bottom right are unresponsive at times, rendering the backspace button on my keyboard useless from time to time, and also won't let me start chrome from my home screen (my rightmost icon in the bottom row). On the top left, it prevents me from hitting the back button in gmail and other apps. Super annoying.
I didn't see any articles about it or find the unresponsiveness noted in any other reviews, have had the phone about 2 months now. I'm also not sure if recalibrating the screen would help since that is not in the default settings (maybe it is In the hidden menu?)
I have the T-Mobile V10.
Are any of you guys using Nova Launcher?
This started happening to me as well. I thought it was an issue with giving Nova Launcher root permission however the issue came back. There is a thread on the reddit as well with people having the same issue. I've been in contact with T-Mobile as well as LG. I'll update if I find anything else.
Sent from my LG-H901 using Tapatalk
Could we include carrier and what launcher, even if it's stock.
I ask because there's got to be a common denominator and I'm guessing it's going to be a combo - and with more info we'll be able to figure out the issue.
It can only help.
I just had this for the first time and only once during typing in whatsapp. I'm using a whatsapp mod.
which i believe is the cause for mine. i had to click the power button and then turn it on again to work, after that no problem anymore.
Same problem. I have the Verizon lg v10 stock. The left too corner under the cameras goes dead and won't respond until I reboot. After reboot all is fine for a few hours, then boom, it happens again.
I thought it was an issue with just my phone cuz I couldn't find anything about it, went to Verizon for the 14 day worry free guarantee, got a brand new one out of the wrapper, all was fine for a day, then same issue.
Same issue here. The upper left corner of my screen will become unresponsive at times and the only thing to fix it is a reboot. I have AT&T stock V10.
Not just an LG issue.
I have a ZTE ZMAX. In the last few days it is doing the same thing. The dead spot in the top left follows the rotation of the screen. I have done a factory reset and problem returned. Seems like its a problem for many phones. It happens with the original launcher and Zeam launcher as well. It would be great if someone figured this out.
I have the same issue with my verizon v10, i have not found out the cause but i did find something that works for me. I reset my app preferences in application manager and everything went back to normal and no issues since. Hope this helps
@jstringn1 thanks for the info I'll try it out.
Honestly it's sounding like and android issue.
Hopefully Google addresses it soon.
SAME. Just bought the V10 on Sunday and I've already noticed the same thing; the upper left hand side of the screen is unresponsive. It seems to ONLY be for certain things though. Stupidly I rebooted to fix it before I fully tested that theory, but I think it's only with certain things. For example, when I open GoogleMaps, I can't hit the "Menu" button in the top right hand side. But if I close the app and go to a screen where I have an App in that same corner, tapping on it seems to open it right up. I hope that info helps to troubleshoot....because I'm ready to take this phone back....but not before I post my review on my YouTube channel.
@jstring I just tried your suggestions. Seems to be ok thus far, but I'll check back in with you all later to let you know if the issue has come back. Because a reboot fixes too...but only temporarily. We'll see.

Did you go to Settings -> Device -> Apps -> Downloaded -> More Options (three dots) -> Reset app preferences?
If so, I tried this , but the top left corner of the screen is still unresponsive.
I also completed reset my phone to factory. No Nova launcher or anything else.
Really puzzled here.....
New findings:
Every time when I open the LG music app (the purple one that came preinstalled), it will trigger the issue. (Please try this on your phone and post your findings )
same issue here
the bttom right is not responsive
and i need to restart it every now and then
i am using it without any mods
but
any one would relate this issue with the latest update as as far as i remeber it showed only after the software update

I think it started happening after I got the AT&T update. Didn't think it was related, since Verizon V10 has the issues too.

Did your phone get an update from Verizon recently?
v10 AT&T, has the issue. Using NOVA Launcher. Willing to change launchers if I can use that back button.
Am I the only?
I own the Honor 10 64GB Blue from Europe/Italy.
I'm using the honor 10 for something like a month, and I've always had a strange issue with the soft navigation buttons, basically sometimes, not always, whenever I tap the back button, or the multitasking button, it is registered two times, and it is a lot frustrating.
Enabling the hardware vibration feedback, I can tell that is an hardware or software issue because it is too precise. So it is not like my finger slipped and tapped two times.
And I'm not the guy who is installing tons of bloatware apps, (I even deleted half of the preinstalled apps), i just have like facebook, instagram, messenger telegram and whatsapp installed. So maybe not a CPU issue.
So basically what I did was going back to the store, asked for a replacement, and after a week I got a brand new phone, and the same problem happened! So previously I got a Xiaomi Mi5 and never had an issue.
My use behavior consists to do things really fast. But I don't know that has something to do with that, I'm doing the same things I've did with other phones, I owned a Nexus 5 and 5x which also had soft navigation buttons and never had such issue in the past.
I don't know what to do honestly, since no one is having issues with their phone, I've just disabled the vibration feedback for the keyboard maybe is screwing the touch screen (????) I will test it anyway.
And I'm charging the phone with regular USB instead of the fast charge, obviously I've did a lot of hard resets. Now I'm trying to charge it only with the huawei charger
Latest firmware obv. I'm thinking of returning the phone again to get my money back. What a shame, it's a pretty good phone aside from that.
So here is a video attachment showing the exact problem, i just had to tap for something like a minute or two, I've did an hard reset yesterday, only Whatsapp, facebook and telegram are installed, no noticeable CPU load, juts mobile data on
Just look at the very first seconds of the video.
Can't check the video now, but this sounds exactly like the problem I've been having with my Honor 10. In ddition to this sometimes the letter a is not registered. I was going to get my digitizer replaced under warranty, but now I'm not sure if I should. I had this issue from day one.
Similar problem with the touch
It seams related to yours issue my problem. Completely random if I'm on 1 app it minimize, vibrating and the phone go to the home page. Even if I'm in the drawer but not in the home page it turn to the home page.
Is like I've touched the fingerprint sensor, even if I did not. Left at the honor/huawei repair center, back after 3 weeks they did a software upgrade. Now it happens rarely, but still happens.
You guys use some kind of glas screen protector? I had one for some time and had also issues like yours. Some letters werent recognized and also sometimes homescreen button got triggered.
Right now i m using a normal screen protector and all problems are gone.
Same issue here, since day one...
No Screen protector, tried to switch the back Button to the right - but it still exists
Same problem with Honor 9 lite
Using fluid navigation to deal with it , it's less annoying that way , i am Trying to find a workaround for this as well , if anyone know how to fix it.
Let us know in comment ?
Hi, I am too facing similar type of issue with my honor view 20. Please let me know if anyone has got the reason behind it. Thanks.
I never use the on screen button navigation on Honor 10. I was using the fingerprint sensor navigation, and now I'm using Fluid NG.
I don't think my digitizer is broken, since I don't have any issue.
Its all good and smooth.
I just got an Honor 10 Lite this week - I've got a different problem with the navigation buttons.
It's an intermittent problem but I'm sometimes pressing the back or home button half a dozen times before it actually goes home or goes back.
If there's a back button at the top left etc., it will immediately go back.
Enabled haptic feedback and the touch is definitely detected and when you touch the navigation button the screen indicated an circular patch where you touched but the problem remains.
Also tried using gestures, same thing....
Huawei customer service recommends a factory reset, anybody else have this problem?
Well I got a replacement phone, blue this time, instead of black.
For the first couple of days it appeared to be very responsive to touching the navigation buttons but now I'm getting the same requirement to do multiple taps!
