Any way to disable USB charging?
dafuk?? .....
Im guessing you use like an mhl cable or something in that nature where you need the data connectivity but not the power from the cable?
Then well strip the cable and remove the power lines. RED and BLACK and solder together.
Or manufacture a modul. Lets say you buy a usb extension cord. Break that cable and remove the power cable. Plug in the extension cord between the micro usb cable and mhl or whatever device you're using.
Or I dunno... I think you need to explain y u ask this question..

Yes, something like that (DAC/AMP)

Doing that won't break otg connectivity, since the 5th pin is also used for sync..?

Then I believe it won't be functioning as otg anymore.
Overall - that's why I wanted on/off hack to turn this on demand only (night charging...).
Yes you are right. Looking at this photo the ground is being actively used for turning regular cable into OTG with pin 4 to pin 5

What you could try and the only thing you really can do here. Is to cut the vcc (red) cable and solder on a switch. Perhaps buy a box to feed the cable through. Drill a hole for the switch. Solder on the vcc cable from the usb cable.
A switch like this, or a screw on model.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/5Pcs-Black-...908?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27fe925acc
A box
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Junction-Ad...961?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item33a3085b49
Or you could buy a ready made kit
http://www.ebay.com/itm/AC-380V-10A...0&pid=100005&rk=1&rkt=6&sd=330789747574&rt=nc
Flip the switch before u go to bed and turn it off when its done.
From looking at the first picture in theory cutting the vcc cable and turning it from nc to no would just stop the device from charging. But I am not sure. Because there is as you say data actively being fed for the OTG interface.
The two things that can happen is
1: The device stops charging
2: The device loses OTG connection and stops charging
So yeah.. If you have some spare time to take in. Try it and see what happens.

Has anyone here tried one of these cheap ones from Hong Kong?
They are cheaper than the nearest option, and come with the right plug too.
It can't be expensive cause it consist only from ac/dc adaptor, usb plug and battery charger. I think it's right device.

I'm sure it is, I just wondered if it's likely to be good quality.
Tell you what, I'll order one and report back here once I've used it.
As promised, I bought it and here's the verdict.
Basically, it does what it says on the tin. There was a slight problem with the usb connection, but that was always the case with this computer unless I use a particular lead. Using the lead that came with it, it wouldn't connect. but using the one I normally use it works fine.

Having used cradles before, this one is slightly more awkward to connect but that's because it uses the usb connector. Previous ones have been spring loaded contacts and the pda would just drop into the cradle. This one requires a little force, but nothing major.
I've yet to determine if the charger works as fast as the original one.
All in all, well worth the money.

Hmm, seems I spoke too soon. The PDA won't charge unless the computer is on.
The 5V adaptor plugs into the back of the stand, as does the usb lead. Either of these will bring on the blue LED on the base, but the usb lead lights it brighter. I suspect there may be some problem with the 5V from the adaptor.
I shall investigate and report back (if anyone's reading this...)
charging with PC off
Hi -- I think I've got the same charger as you, and mine seems to charge fine with the computer powered off. . .
Alan
Having investigated further, it appears that the +5V from the charger and the +5V from the USB are linked directly. This means that with either one connected singly, it's fine, with both connected and the PC on, it's also fine.
But, with the PC off the +5V from the charger is fed back through the USB lead into the PC which pulls down the voltage somewhat.
I discovered this when I turned off the PC and noticed some front panel lights glowing slightly. I unplugged the cradle and they went off, and the blue LED on the charger became brighter.
dock
hi,
i've got the same "hong kong" dock as xmastree.
I think this is a good dock, simple and cheap.
regards.
I know the dock will have 2 full size USB ports. But honestly I'd rather just have a little adapter that I can plug into it.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 will have one so hopefully Asus or another brand will produce one to compete!

Oh gawd! With this delay and endlessly searching for release times, I forgot about that
How about a dual Female A USB adaptor
Amazon: USB 2.0 Adapter Female A- Female A
...plugged to the cable adaptor that comes in the box?
The cable also has data connectivity for data transfer, it probably should do the trick.
I believe the HongKong electronic shops would come to the rescue. They are known to produce many useless converter before. I don't see why not this time. Probably straight from ASUS connector to USB.
I posted something on on Asus' Campus Life. Please his reply to it and respond requesting this accessory! Look for username Dean.

Check this out:

I hope they make something similar to the hinge on the keyboard dock, so it can actually latch on and has the two usb's and the SD slot, it would also make a nice grip when using the tf vertically. From the pics, what they have so far looks like it's going to stick out a lot and with something that big there is definitely more of a chance it will get knocked out and possibly damage the port.
Dont we have to have usb host support first for the transformer and dont we have to wait for honeycomb 3.1 for that?

Doesn't look so. And some people reported that Female A - Female A adaptors work for some devices (those that have their own power source probably) - there is a thread about it somewhere in this forum. I tried it but my pendrives nor mouse didn't work (there is probably no power line in the USB cable that is used for charging and connecting to computer).

Any ideas on release date to the USB adapter ? Pete
Hi,
My usb port on my xperia broke previously and i had i repaired but now its broken again. Would it be possible to re solder a brand new usb port as the the guy at the phone shop says he might not be able to re solder it next time.
Any response is greatly appreciated.
HI,
It is possible almost everytime but, MIGHT take very long time to resolder, if copper pads are took off the PCB. Therefore, it mustbe soldered back on other pins.
Anyway, it is possible.
.
Thanks for your replay.
I know that the outer big pins are the ones for charging but are they inner small pins for data connectivity?

Yes - outer are GND (-) and VCC (+) - inner D+ and D- (DATA). One pin is unused. Here is the pinout:

Thank you for your reply.
This was very useful and now i can out smart the phone guy when he says in can only charge meaning he hasn't soldered the inner one on.
So hit Thanks pls
If that guy was the technician, ha propably knew that. But there maid be a reason, why he didn`t soldered them - maybe it wasn`t possible due to damaged PCB...
Just guessing
..
I did get my xperia fixed once but it only charged and when ever i connected it to my computer it only charge and did not connect to the computer. Is there a solution for that?
So your phone was repaired after damage? Am I right, that it wasn`t repaired by yourselve?
So, you could find out if data pins are soldered - download Terminal emulator
here.
Then open it and connect your phone with PC via USB cable. Once phone is connected on both sides, type "dmesg" and see output. There must be something like this:
<6>[23469.853208] *********** Charger Type: HOST PC
<6>[23469.853384] Charger Type: STD DOWNSTREAM PORT
<6>[23470.708433] msm_chg_usb_charger_connected
If charger type is DEDICATED CHARGER, data pins are not connected or not solderd properly.
Thanks a lot.
It`s OK - you're welcome
I've got a phone with a broken USB too. I've got a new USB port and was looking for some information on how to do the soldering. Thanks.

Hi, if you don`t have any experience with soldering (of anything) - Don`t do it, you may damage your phone permanently.
Is there a cable for the prime for USB host? I want a USB port but so far I can only find cables for the Galaxy tab or for micro USB ports. I don't want the keyboard dock, I have my laptop for computing. I just want a cable for it. So far I can only find the Asus dongle for the TF101(compatible right? Same proprietary port?), but that's only for an SD card, not a USB-female port.
Do you mean this? If you need to hook up a usb device to the prime, you need a dongle like the one below.

good question, i was looking at picking one of these up so i could use my ps3 controller with my prime's included charging cable.....
http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Female-5-Pin-Male-Adapter/dp/B002S7PS8M
USB female to mini-usb male.
would this work and do i really need to shell out for that box, i just don;t understand what exactly it does, i think for what i'm trying to do it should be fine, i could see the issues when trying to use a usb hdd as i could see more drivers needed to even access the data from the drive....i would think a ps3 controller would just show up....any suggestions or buying some extra box to carry around 100% necessary....

Bought this last week thinking the same thing.
Does not recognize devices. Something is weird about the dock cable.
I was trying to pair my PS3 controller, I ended up doing it with the keyboard port instead.
On a somewhat related note, I dont recommend you buy the item at that link. I ended up chucking mine out because it was too loose to hold the cables in... and its mustard yellow...eww
I've yet to confirm this myself, but I believe the dock connector uses different pins for "USB Host" (ex: plugging in a controller to the tablet) and "USB Device" (ex: plugging the tablet into a PC) modes. Using a USB Female-Female adapter, as others above have proven, will not work.
Wait...I spoke to soon, the link above is useless. It's backordered and I can't find it anywhere else. Anyone have an idea?
I got mine from microcenter, in tustin, ca. There might still be one there. And yea I first tried a female to female adapter on the usb charging cable it came with and no dice. However this adapter does work. Plugged my 360 controller in and played some shadowgun.

However, what might be more useful are right angle converters in both Liberal and Conservative forms (left and right leaning)

a little bit off topic but I have bought 2 USB OTG cables off eBay and neither works with my Z ultra, but they do work with the wife's Note 3. Does anyone know if there's a setting I'm maybe forgetting to turn on or if I need a specific cable?
There's no power at all going to the devices I connect, have tried everything from keyboards, thumb drives and dualshock controllers.

The one i bought from Amazon a year ago works perfect, it was $1.99
I didn't do anything special to get USB OTG working.
It could be that your USB device is drawing too much power, which a Note could manage but the XZU can't?
I don't (yet) have this phone, so maybe I'm missing something...
Why not flip the phone the other way, so the USB port is on the top?
the fully rectangular version is from when not all devices supported otg so they made them that way as a sort of failsafe to stop unsupported devices being tampered with (i personally believe it was to coin in further on cable replacements on high end devices)
if you have one of the old rectangular otg cables laying about just carefully file away at the edges a little bit until it fits smoothly (dont force it!!)...
tested with an old nokia n8 cable on my lg g2 and it works just fine!!!

the book cover/case I use has a crease so it can act as a stand, and the phone ends up held with the USB port bottom/right. It then leaves the mag charge port free for power.
