Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge Overheating - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had my S6 edge for around 10 days and I have just noticed while it is connected to my car via bluetooth and streaming audio of youtube, the phone became incredibly hot!
Hit enough to make it uncomfortable in my hand....
Is this normal and if not should I request a replacement?

It's normal

My phone heats up to 44 C
What is the Warning Level is it safe till 45 or 50 Celsius ?
It happens when
1) On use of Google Maps while driving
2) Charging
3) When i use Sandisk OTG, to the extent that it stop the Transfer & freezes
4) Even if i Record Videos sometimes
5) While wireless charging
This is really bad Never had such a Issue

I play MKX for more than 30 mins per day, doesn't get that much hot than it used to be. I guess 5.1.1 was an improvement after all.

warning should be around 80 ~90..and i think it will throttle down or power off to not damage..
BTW..on a laptop or pc you have a fan for cooling ..on the phone with same or more performens we have nothing... so all is good

It's probably reading residual heat from the dual core processor. I have heard of people reaching 115 degrees on their phones. The processor can handle it, but excessive heat over prolonged periods might deteriorate the battery quality quicker, that's all

Is it down at the bottom around where the capacitive buttons are in the back?
mine was reading 115F when I was using gps and other apps at the same time. It would not go over 115F and it was in direct light on the dash board. For some reason my phone since that day has been running cooler even when I try to push it and get it to that temp again it wont do it. The incipio feather case helps with holding the phone when it gets that hot lol
Its not the battery that is heating up. It stays cool its the bottom of the phone where I think the cpu and stuff is.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. The dual core is going to get hot sometimes and the battery temp sensor is going to catch some of that heat.

Yeah, that's the processor. It's not the battery getting that hot.
I think I found a use for all the heat lol. I got one of those screen protectors where you have to use fluid to get them to stick. I think the brand is gadget guard. I hope the heat transfers to the screen. I've got a nice 25 min youtube clip playing with screen brightness at 100% and the charger plugged in I think I will run the mp3 player also for good measure see how hot I can get this bad boy.
Don't know if it is relevant but battery heat issue went away from i switched to a custom power plan in battery manager..the night mode was keeping sync alive all the time during day resulting in battery drain and heat.
with youtube going for 40 min straight the screen on full brightness the battery charger plugged in and win amp running its holding steady at 41C.
I decided to try and see how far I can push the multi task. So far wim amp is playing the gps latatuide thing is going youtube is playing and I'm sending and receiving texts at the same time the phone isn't slowing down one bit. I can only get the temp up to 42 right now.
Really guys? 115F is the best you can do?
When my Atrix was plugged into my car dock, running Car Dock, Navigation, and Slacker Radio, SetCPU was reading 62C (144F). 115F is nothin . I've been playing games on my phone and its reached over 55C (131F).
This is my second Atrix so it's not a faulty device. I have a SetCPU profile to underclock over 60C; I had originally set it at 55C but it would underclock too often while playing games and during car dock mode.
IMO, I think Motorola is smart enough to implement some form of heat protection into their phone once the phone reaches a certain temperature. They know it's a dual core phone and I'm sure the engineers expected a lot of heat.
42 degrees for me, really crazy. Do they have warning stickers for this in the US so that they dont get sued?

yea i have around the same temps as you. I have the body glove case on, so do you think that its worsening the overheating or dissipating the heat?
i cant really even have Wifi and battery charging at the same time. the phone gets so hot lol
I notice that when i change my battery heat temps are all over the place , 6 batteries and only 2 off them show a heat range and keep a heat range of 25 to 27 degrees ..just swap out one battery at 25 degrees and put the new one in booted and notice that it is at 37 degrees and holding under no stress . Here the funny thing at 25 the back and screen got very warm to the touch but at 37 the back and screen are cool to the touch
even in standby mode,my atrix's CPU temp is about 42-44 C
and the battery heat is about 35 C
it's kind of crazy because i didn't use any apps though..
my phone is just sit still at my desk
how to get rid of this crazy battery/CPU heat?

I've seen this too. In the car dock with navigation and music I've seen it reach 139°F. It seems to always get hot in the car dock.

Phone gets hot

Hey everyone
my phone gets heated up itself. Not very hot but slightly hot and it gets cooled itself. What could be the reason or can it damage the phone.
Thanks in advance.

Well, that sometimes happens to my LG P500, but I think it is normal.
Mine behaves the same way...
I think it becomes hot (warm we should say) mostly in 3G mode, especially when combined with tethering.
every smart phone heats up when doing a task for a continued amount of time. your phone will heat up while talking a call for more than 30 minutes, watching video (like a movie) downloading data via wifi, 3g and 2g. browsing the gallery for an extended amount of time.
but it is not the phone cpu that heats up. its the rapidly discharging battery.
lg p500 can heat up to a temperature of 55 degrees celcius while discharging and 44 while charging though the standard charger.
so dont worry, it is a normal phenomenon and the phone will not get damaged due to such heat.
Yh my p500 gets red hot if I use it a lot which is getting annoying
Our phones is really HOT.

My phone can get hot if I'm using my hotspot + charging.
its usual cause u r in "INDIA!!!" dats not a great place to use smatphone....
I also noticed that my P500 gets really hot when charging and when I video chat with yahoo messenger. the hot spot is somewhere where the google logo is.

Well said. Thanks for the info
You can try with an other battery. If the problem persist, is an phone issue...
If is 'hot' as 'I cannot keep the phone in my hands' probably is a phone issue. If it is 'warm' is just like any android more or less. But as DeuxEx says, just try another battery if you can. They cost 3-5$ each in ebay.
/W
as all the above said, your being heated up is not unusual,
if you are overclocking, set a temperature profile
or take off the battery case and put it into the fridge for 3 minutes! (i really did this once )

SGS2 Weaknesses - Are they corrected in SGS3?

1) Wake up lag - On SGS2, when you press home button or power button to wake the device up, you wait 1 to 2 seconds before you see the screen. How is it on SGS3?
2) Home button lag - When you press the home button, does it react instantly, or does it wait for a double click and waste time?
3) High Android OS use with some ADSL routers, especially D-Link based ones. This made me keep wifi off all the time. I hope it's corrected on SGS3.
4) Very long charging time, espeically from USB - On SGS2 with even a relatively small 1650 mah battery, it takes more than 3 hours to charge the device on USB. I wonder how fast it is with 2100 mah on SGS3. If it takes 5 hours, forget it.
The charging wont change.. It's a limitation of USB rather than the phone.. A USB2 port has a max rating of 500ma
Some sgs2 roms had the option to force the phone to try and charge at 1amp when connected to USB.. Some machines it worked on, others it didnt and crapped out the port.

wake up lag fixed basing on a post by user who already has that phone.
It will probably take around 4-5 hours to charge on USB as the phones battery is larger.

Earlier reviews state about 3 hours. Yea, I can't find any links now but I remember reading that.

LMFAO..from where did you get that.. galaxy note takes only 3hrs 15mins to charge from o to 100..
My charging time about 3.5 - 4 hours from 1% to 100%. If you start charging from 15% you will spend 3 - 3.5 hours
I'm charging my S3. 50% in 1 hour this time . Super charging
You guys reliaze we are talking about charging from usb, through a computer right?
USB2 has a maxium output of 500mA so it will take atleast 4.2 hours to charge a 2100mAh battery... and of course even more when it's powered on.

1) Wake up lag - On SGS2, when you press home button or power button to wake the device up, you wait 1 to 2 seconds before you see the screen. How is it on SGS3?
Sometimes it's instant, sometimes (after not using it for a while) it takes a second to light up the screen.
Code:
2) Home button lag - When you press the home button, does it react instantly, or does it wait for a double click and waste time?
There is a lag of about 0.5 sec.

3) High Android OS use with some ADSL routers, especially D-Link based ones. This made me keep wifi off all the time. I hope it's corrected on SGS3.
I'm connected to a AVM Fritz!Box 7170. My current battery stats. This was heavy use (playing games for an hour, watching two hours of HD video, surfing the web for another two hours while listening to music).

Charging via AC was ~3 hours, via USB it's ~5 hours.

to op who asked about wakeup lag.
this vid shows no wakeup lag.
aren't lags like that supposed to be only on those who underclock to very very low speeds during sleep or deep sleep thus on wake-up those who set it to incremental step up in speeds experience this kind of lag?

Nope, on SGS2, you get wake up lag with all voltages and all speed settings. It's the time the kernel wakes the modem up and it can't be changed because it's designed that way.
The video is interesting, but I'm not sure it gives an idea about wake up lag. In the beginning, the guy doesn't give the phone enough time to go to deep sleep, so it doesn't count. In 2:22, he turns off the phone with video playing in the background, so the phone doesn't sleep either.
I wish there would be a video where someone wakes the phone from deep sleep and we can see if there is a lag or not. Most weaknesses corrected by flashing CM9 or AOKP, but this one is a hardware problem, and I'm never buying another phone with this kind of lag.
Can't link to the video (tapatalk blah too lazy blah blah) but I do remember seeing one of the reviews and the device DID have the same damn lag... I died a little inside when I saw screen turning on a bit more than 1 sec after the guy pressed the power button.
I'm finding USB charger on my S3 very quick compared to the S2.
However, there is definite home button lag. It's better now that I've disabled the double home button tap for S Voice (homescreen shortcut instead) but there's still a lag. It could be Apex rather than the phone.
All said, battery life is excellent. FAR better than the S2. S2 got me through about 8 hours. S3, with similar use, is about 60% after those same 8 hours.
The S3 seems slower to me. I'm looking forward to having the kernel, rom yada yada mucked around with!
I got a little starting lag. It's not that bad but may reach up to one sec.

[Q] Phone very hot after charging/ use

I got and activated my DNA yesterday. Phone got very hot after charging (from the wall outlet ). I activated the phone and played with it a little and left it alone. Now it seems cooler.
Anyone else experience heat issues with the phone ? I am trying to determine if I got a defective piece or if it is a characteristic of this phone. I had a htc phone before which did Not have this problem.
Also, is the phone's temp displayed under some setting options ?
Thanks,
cornfool
Same with me. It gets much hotter during wireless charging though.
Sent from my Droid DNA. 1080p never looked so sweet
I noticed this as well, it gets very warm when charging (even more so with wireless charging), and it gets warm with even light use.
the HTC DROID DNA when activated and signed into Google email it will be a lot of data to get itself restored. I'm sure you guys at it Facebook or Google Plus that right there with Poul a lot of data to pull in contacts and contact information plus have settings. I got mine yesterday any got extremely high alarming hi but over tonight is cool down it's not fully no more data which is somewhere around 3 gigabytes last night this seems to be doing fine now
Check the ratings of the wakk outlet...many HTCs have prob of over heating...go power master shows temperature...

Now that I used the phone whole day today. I still see an issue of phone heating up quite a bit when being used for longer than say 15 to 20 mins. Even playing the amira game that is included for about 10 mins causes the phone to heat up quite a bit.
I am thinking I have a defective piece
Mini review:
Overall very responsive and fast. Battery life was not too bad, my usage scenario seemed to hold up fine. Not as good as iphone ofcourse but I can live with this.
gps was fine, chrome is smooth. Problem areas for me so far are
1. Heating up of the phone'
2. low light pictures show a lot of noise compared to gs3 and iphone 5
Thanks

you should install a battery widget that shows temp to be sure. My rezound still gets up to 115 or so on 4g, but doesn't effect the performance of the phone.

Weird LG G5 behaviour

Hi guys I have an LG G5 since 2016, It runs the last 20w firmware but there are some issuses:
1. The phone gets hotter with a normal usage (for example when I use instagram expecially under 4G+ network or when I use chrome or watch YouTube videos) or inidle
2. The phone it's pretty laggy, I think that this is normal because the phone becames hotter
3. The battery it's very bad even with brevent, ap opps to disable background apps etc. my battery is bad, If I don't use YT or Chrome MAYBE my phone permits me a day of usage but if I use chrome I need to do at least 2 charges
4. Fast charge is weird, If I connect my phone I get fast charge but only for a minute, after that is like if I disconnect and reconnect my phone and it charges in slow charge mode, but If I try a few times to discoonnect and reconnets the charger I get fast charge or If I reboot the phone with the charger connected fast charge works.
What I tried:
For issues 1, 2 ,3 I tried to reset the phone and change rom multiple times with no results
For issue 4 I tried with other roms and I tried to change my charger (using an OP3T charger) with no results.
Please help me, thanks in advance.
Do you have H850 ? my phone does the same plus one more. It can start over-heating by itself even when I'm not using it. When it does that I lose 15-20% battery in less than 20 minutes and I have to wait 2-3 days and the problem goes away. It's like my phone has a period or something. Tried many things, nothing worked. I'm thinking of sending it for service since I have many other problems too, like lcd bleeding.
