For those of you out there with the T-mobile G2 and wish to root their phone but dont want the hassle of using sdk well here is some good news there is a better and quicker way to do so.
first you will need a few files and your going to need to downgrade to 2.2 v 1.19
grab the PC10IMG.zip it must be named this for it to work put this file in the root of the sd card reboot phone before phone starts up hold vol down button screen will show up and load the PC10IMG.zip it will ask install choose vol up for yes
download visionary r 14 and temp root that is all you need to do then download su.zip go to market install rom manager flash recovery reboot into recovery choose install zip from sd card choose su.zip it will be installed reboot phone will then be perm rooted
Easier way, download 'universal androot.apk' then install, and boom It's rooted.

There is a boot.img file that goes with Viper (see the site). You must install with ADB (fastboot flash boot boot.img) or flash with "Flash Image GUI" that you can download from the market. Failure of wifi after installing a rom or kernel must be >99% due to wrong boot.img file for the kernel modules packaged in the rom or kernel you're installing.
Help extreme noob at it again

Wow, that's tough. Well it's hard to delete all the "sd card" data. If you have TWRP, go to advanced -> file manager and see if you have files. Most likely the viper download is still there in the download folder. If so, do the following:
1. In TWRP press wipe -> factory reset.
2. TWRP -> install -> download/viper zip file -> follow instructions.
3. You probably won't have wifi after install initially, but everything else should work.
4. After you do the ROM setup:
a. Go to the viper thread and download the boot.img file under the viper download link
b. Install flash image gui from the market. Use it to install the boot.img file. Ignore the caution potential issue warning. Flash the file and reboot. All should be well.
5. Be careful!:good:
Well go to your computer and then if do you have the sd tools from HTC, then cppy there the roms files and the boot .img,
Then go to dos command prompt in windos and find the files
Run the recovery and type in sideload
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then go to recovery again and flash the rom and thats it

OK, so you do need adb then. Assuming you have it installed rather than just a all-in-one kit, here's a good description of procedure: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1667929
If you don't have adb installed, you need to install it.

I've looked at this thread but couldn't find any info on how to install it on an already rooted phone. I tried to flash it by using flashrec but it failed then tried by wiping it and placing the rom on sd card and then running the flash zip, it again failed!

All you have to do is flash it the same way you would flash any other Rom
I presume your using clockworkmod recovery?? Although I'm fairly certain the steps are the same on other recoveries
Put the Rom on your sd card. Boot into recovery. Then make sure to wipe data, then wipe cache partition, then wipe dalvik cache. After you've done those three steps click on install zip from sdcard, then choose zip from sdcard. Then just find the Rom you want to use and flash it
I'm sorry if the above is what you've already tried
Also before you flash the rom. In the "install zip from sdcard" section there is something called "toggle signature verification". Click on that. Sometimes when a Rom doesn't flash I click that and then it works

If you've already got it installed then whilst your phone is turned off hold down the home and power button. This should boot you into recovery. Then just follow the steps in my previous post
If you haven't got it and need to install it then the easiest way I found was to download an app called Rom Manager. Inside the app there should be an option to flash clockworkmod recovery

It says remote not allowed because your bootloader is not unlocked, go to htcdev.com and unlock your bootloader, then it will work. Or for gods sake follow this: http://oldwiki.cyanogenmod.org/wiki/HTC_Hero_(GSM):_Full_Update_Guide

now i have the latest version of sdk installed on my system, trying to unlock the bootloader as suggested, but the procedure described in htcdev.com for my device does not match with my hero,
Step 3
Use the Volume buttons to select up or down. Highlight Fastboot and press the Power button.
when I press the power and volume down, i get the options:
<back>fastboot mode
<send> sim lock
if i press back and goto fastboot mode it gives the options:
<vol down> hboot mode
<menu> reset device
and as suggested in the step 3 when i press the power button, nothing happens , what should i do here??

2. apply update from sdcard
3.wipe data/factory rest
4.wipe cache partion
When I pick the one to update it gets to:

The reason that the ROM will not install on your device is because you are trying to flash a ROM in the stock Android recovery. To install a custom ROM you will need to install a custom recovery image such as Clockworkmod Recovery. For a full guide on how to root your device, and install a custom recovery image I would recommend checking out this guide. If have any more questions let me know I'll be happy to help you out.

Just to clarify have you now successfully rooted your device and installed Clockworkmod Recovery? If you haven't rooted your device and installed Clockworkmod Recovery yet the .tar file that you need to flash in Odin can be found here. Once you have rooted your device and installed Clockworkmod Recovery, the KingOS ROM will be a .zip file you do not need to extract anything from the .zip file simply follow the original flashing instructions you came across for the KingOS ROM. As always let me know if you still have questions.

For the US version I would recommend following this guide to root first, downloading on the rooted file system images .zip files, extracting the rooted system image .tar file and then flashing it through Odin. After you flash the rooted system image you will need to install a Superuser app such as SuperSU.
