[Q] sim card not working : generic imei 0049 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have a samsung galaxy s3 (i9300). I recently made a downgrade from android from android 4.3 to android 4.0.4 using odin.
However, after flashing, the sim card is no longer working,it's detected, but there's no signal. (only a smalle circle in the top).
i didn't even make a EFS backup. When i searched in the net i found that this has an issue with flashing a modem file with recovery depending on AP,CP,and CSC. Those are mine
AP:I9300XXALE8
CP:I9300XXLE8
CSC;I9300OJVALE7
Is there a link to flash the modem file with my configuration ? How can i change the imei without using a z3x box ?

Hi!
Try this emergency modem from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43946365&postcount=15

Try searching before you make this any worse. You cannot downgrade from 4.3 so flash again with 4.3 and pray you haven't corrupted the efs, if you have then pay for a repair.

[Q] Is it possible to patch 4.3 modem?

Hi, can modems for 4.3 be patched? I know that currently Ariza patch supports all 4.1.2 except ones with MG4 modem because it uses the new efs v2, and i am asking that because i'd like to upgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.3, but, i got to have patched modem, because i'll get emergency calls only, so, is there anything yet to succesfully patch efs v2 modems on 4.3? Thanks in front.

No, everything is fine with imei and serial number, the thing is, my phone is repaired with z3x box, and now i can only change 4.1.2 roms, and then patch them with ariza patch (only 0.4 working) and i cannot use efs v2 roms/modems because i will have Emergency calls only (i will have the signal, imei, and serial number), so i have to patch modem to connect it to network (it says succesfully conected to network, but emergency calls only), i have read that i can patch with zuluman, but i am not 100% sure about that.

Man if you have z3x box everything is allright im not sure why u needed ARIZA patch anyway. It's only for S/N 00000.
But if you're looking for patched 4.3

This thread would lead you there.

The thing is, z3x currently patches and fixes only to 4.1.2, when my imei gets broken i have to downgrade to 4.0.4, patch, then upgrade again to 4.1.2, z3x doesn't support 4.3 android yet, and the thing is, when rhe phone is repaired with z3x, every single time when rom changes, or just reflashes, i get Emergency calls only, and i have to use ariza patch to reroute modem, and if you understand, i don't want to have risk fixing my phone again if something get's messed up, i'll look up to the thread you gave me.
P.S. i have read that ARIZA patch doesn't fix SN 0000 but only network issues like Emergency calls only after flashin (that says in one thread that has tutorial).
Edit: About this thread you gave me, i tried flashing stock XXEMJ9 and MK6, tried with both, patched MG4 modem, nothing, emergency calls only, also tried zuluman modem patcher v2, extracted original modem.bin, patched, also nothing, Emergency calls only, i am almost sure that z3x has messed something up, like i am stuck forever now, i'll consult with some specialist in service center
Same here...but z3x can now works with 4.3...i have the new repaired efs backed up..so no problem if IMEI gets messed up...but everytime i flash a new ROM, even if the imei is correct..it won't connect to network..so i need to take it to the repair shop and patch the modem. The guy who fixed is really pissed off at me
Should've taken it to samsung service centre(they asked 2500 in my local currency but the shop did it for 1500) Oh..the price i pay for being cheap :/
Sent from my GT-N7100 using XDA Free mobile app
update : i don't have to go to the shop anymore...i do it at home. the patched modems created with modem patcher v2 work fine. everytime i flash a rom (always stock) the imei stays correct but the "emergency calls only" appears. PC Odin doesn't let me flash the patched modem for some reason. so i root the phone and install mobile odin and flash patched modem with it...and voila!! everything works just fine! i'm running 4.4.2 ....hope this process will also work when the lollipop update arrives.

I9300 IMEI / Serial Number Wiped after upgrade

Hi there I have a I9300 (International Version) of S3
So I'm just getting straight to the point
I had bought a s3 from a private seller from ebay and it was running 4.1.2.
I have a bit of experience in using Odin and I had downloaded some UK BTU android 4.3 version from sammobile.com which I usually use to update my phone.
But today if went wrong
I never did root because I never did like it and never made an efs backup
I had flashed I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXAGMK6_I9300XXUGMK6_HOME.tar.md5 file to my phone and everything went perfectly fine
BUT THEN!
I tried calling some of my friends and I noticed that my sim wasn't being recognised
It didn't take long until I realised that my IMEI number had been to some random 0049***** number (I had found out that this was generic and was'nt my real IMEI Number)
I had then checked the IMEI number on the back of the phone and it did not match what was said in my phone settings
I have now clocked that it was the 4.3 android which was screwing me up
I have never installed any custom roms .etc and have only ever installed official ones from sammobile
So why would my phone's EFS get f***ed up and I also did'nt do any in Odin like phone efs clear
My phone had also ran out of warranty so I can't play dumb either
I have researched and found that it is possible to edit the nv_data file.etc like on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1804117
I have also tried downgrading but now odin wont allow but probably has something to do with samsung (downgrading policy)
I have also NOW made a backup of my efs folder and my phone is fully functional but my IMEI AND my SERIAL NUMBER was changed
Be honest do I have a realistic chance of recovering my phone or would I have to shell out of repairs and if so how much would it cost?
@mizzeeboy,
Try this?

I have unfortunately tried this and I have realised that some of the phone data in the s2 is different compared to the s3
Also just one question if I could downgrade back to 4.1 would I get my IMEI back?

Sorry for the wrong link.
Maybe this?
- Try to reflash latest 4.3 for your country (this will most likely solve the issue if your efs is not broken)
- You can also try the methods in the link (there are many)
In my limited experience; downgrading to 4.1.2 after 4.3 gave me bootloop and it can't read efs2 (from 4.3)

Flash this modem through Odin (http://www.mediafire.com/download/s79zs955sok085h/modem.bin) it's MK6, it should fix the problem for you.

(PROBLEM SOLVED) No Network Due to IMEI Number being Corrupted

My IMEI Number was 0049****** . This means that my Original IMEI Number is either Corrupted or unreadable.
This happens because of Some Reasons :
1) When you Downgrade Your Device
2) When you Don't Flash ROM Properly
According to a XDA Thread(which I dont remember) , Samsung Changed its EFS File Directory to other directory after a particular version . So If you downgrade your device ... it will search for the EFS file in the old directory and thus the result is NO IMEI NUMBER or CORRUPT IMEI NUMBER
Solution :
1) If You are on a Custom Rom and Don't have a network then you should switch to stock Rom and unroot your device.
2) After Switching to stock Rom you may still don't have your Network . Don't Panic . Now OTA Update your device.
3) The Problem I encountered with OTA update was , It was not working because I was not having network.
4) If OTA is not working then download the latest firmware .tar file from the internet and flash it to your device via ODIN
So as soon as you upgrade your SIII say , from 4.1.2 [NO NETWORK] to 4.3 , I'm pretty much sure you should get your IMEI Number Back and Network working
Better go read the sticky thread on efs in general forum, the solutions are much clearer.
Always backup your efs before you flash anything.

If there's no network on 4.1.2 then you can likely get it working on stock 4.3 if your efs changed from v1 to v2
This is a common case if you downgraded from 4.3 to 4.1
Nice post, but if you want to provide some information then please provide as much of it as possible. Generic statements are not safe for new users.

Emergency call only after CM M8 update

Hi guys i really need your help.
yesterday i updated my S3 from CM M7 to M8 version, since then i get emergency calls only
my imei is ok,and yet i recover it again. i did system restore, flashed other rom, burned with Odin 3 versions of Samsung original firmware, replaced sim but nothing doesn't work
anyone can think about another option?
Flash latest stock firmware for your country with Odin, not original.
If the imei or serial number is still not being read then restore your efs backup. If you don't have a backup then pay for a repair, make sure the phone works on 4.3 before you pay.

How to fix Baseband Unknown?

please help for anyone who knows baseband fix not in the know, I wear GT-I9300T Australia Vodafone and running Android JB.4.3 initially imei null and baseband not in the know then I tried to flash back the official firmware using odin, not beehasil then I tried repair using octoplus without box, Z3X without box, other flash modem using TWRP recovery, still fail but after I install Xposed - Imei changger - I can write my Imei into my device but my baseband still unknown can not connect to the network, is there any who can give me a hint? I was getting frustrated, for hours I spent time in front of the computer looking for a reference but have not encountered an unknown Baseband fix, but I do not want to give up so easily considering I have to save long enough to buy the Samsung GT I9300T first. Thank you and sorry if my English is bad this forum is amazing
Try flashing the mk6 firmware (or the very first version of 4.3 for your carrier).
Try flashing the above mentioned firmware again after a factory reset in recovery (flashing twice clears old firmware remnants).
Try flashing via kies in emergency recovery.
