possible fix
how about you try taking the phone and pulling the plug and taking out the battery
after you do that odin back to stock
First you want to post in q&a. Second as to your phone does it do anything. Does the bottom row of lights come on. Does it boot to any screen? Third have you read the vibrant directory (bible)? Forth have you downloaded odin?

Check to see if your battery died somehow, but if you can't turn on your device even with a full battery, you have a real bricked phone.
Battery I fine, if I plug the charger in it doesn't charge or show that it's charging. How could this happen just from flashing a file?
Call tmobile and tell them that your phone said it was updating and once it restarted, it never came back on. They will have you check a few things and then send you a replacement for free. In the future be very careful when learning to mod your phone, ask questions when your not sure. This replacement trick will only get you a phone one time.
I was thinking to do that, only that my carrier is simple mobile, they do not offer insurance, sigh, I think I may be out of a phone
where did you get this update.zip?/
What update.zip did you flash?

No; it is unlikely that you are out of a phone. Try this method, either buying or making a USB "test jig." (You can make it if you know how to solder.)
http://board.teamwhiskey.com/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=209
If this does not work, there is another method that is expensive (but less than $500 for a new phone). You will need to find a technician with a "JTAG" test device who has a special bootloader software module from Samsung. The device uses an interface other than USB to access bootloader memory and downloads the bootloader file to the bootloader memory in order to boot the phone into a recovery environment.
The only way that your phone would be completely unrecoverable is if there was a hardware failure at the same time that you were playing around, which is unlikely.

Dude it's bricked....game over. Call tmobile and just tell them your phone doesn't turn on anymore, don't tell them how it happened, just that it stopped working. They will send you a replacement for free, if you're still under warranty it is. I bricked mine 2 weeks ago and got my replacement the next day. I tried EVERYTHING to get it back to life....but nothing. Sometimes it happens even though you follow all steps, especially if it messed around with your bootloader.
Good luck. It's no ones effen business what you say happened...most likely they do the same.
You shouldn't even be flashing the update.zip... you should be using like OCLF to do it for you. This should help:
http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/
I would STRONLGY suggest to listen what BruceElliott says, read and follow the directions carefully. In 99% cases you can recover just fine. It's very hard to truly brick vibrant...

You've got to be able to get into download mode to do that though. I think that's the problem.
I'd mess around with it for a bit and try all of the tips to get into download mode. I can't believe you'd hard brick it based on what you said. You are positive your battery is okay?
I had the same problem. It would not turn on at all. I called Samsung and they paid to send it back for warrenty repair. It takes 6 business days. They didn't even ask how it happened. I think the number was 800-samsung
Nah, you don't need a Jig just yet
I've ran into that problem MANY TIMES!! The first time it freaked me out too.
Take out the battery, take out the sim card. Leave it for about 5 minutes. Then do these steps:
- plugged the phone in without the battery
- Hold down the 2 volume buttons
- As you're holding those 2 buttons down, insert the batter
- You should be in download mode
- Proceed with Odin
Can you tell us what update.zip you used? Good luck!
Well as the title says i rooted the phone a long time ago. I noticed my phone didn't charge yesterday so I started messing with it and realized it would need to be sent back. so I wanted to start unrooting, but I couldn't connect into flash or usb at all. I did manage to start a flash once , but then it lost connection half way through and the phone doesn't turn on at all now. I can't wiggle usb or anything at all to get it to recognize so I imagine the board or something need to b replaced. question is will sony be able to tell my phone is rooted in its condition and if the replace board i'm in the clear right? thanks guys!

i think if it doesnot turn on they dont bother repairing it.it is happen with a printer i giveback to bestbuy and they replace it right away without even plunging to power.
oh yeah when I say doesn't turn on I mean it vibrates as usual when u try to power on, but it goes no where. no sony logo or anything.
Oh no. Just tell them the truth, hopefully they don't care... wish ur phone good luck...

Well technically rooting the handset does void the warranty. However, if there's no way for it to turn on, I don't see how they'll be able to tell!
Just use sony ericsson update service
I had the same and it worked for me
EDIT: you can download it on the sony ericsson website

I have tried the SE update service and the phone won't go into flash mode because it seems that the usb port is faulty and loses connection. I'm just sending it in and hoping it gets by them. If not I will just pay for the repair I guess.

This happened to me too. USB port was faulty, couldn't charge, couldn't flash. Vibrate on power key and red light flash but no Sony logo or anything. I borrowed a friends fully charged battery and got phone turned on. Entered recovery and wiped everything, system, data and cache. Then sent it off for repair as it was then a blank phone. They just sent me a new one

Thanks....This eases my mind a little. My wife actually has an x10 as well and I tried her battery as well and it won't go anywhere. It just doesn't work so I am fairly confident that they will jsut be repairing or sending me a new one. It goes out tomorrow so my fingers are crossed. Thanks again for the insight everyone.
Update: I called Sony today for an update on my repair and I was told there was no record of my service request. The support agent I spoke to assured me he would call me back by the end of the day with an update. Well I was waiting and UPS arrives suprising me with my phone The packaging was verrrry bad. It was in a flimsy box wrap in some thin styrofoam wrap thing. The box was dented pretty badly, but the phone seemed to be in working order. The best part is they just sent me a straight replacement. So I put sim in and power her up and it's asking for an unlock code...AHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Spoke to Sony, AT&T and Rogers to try and get them to provide one, but they wouldn't give me one. So now I am waiting for a code to be sent to me from an online company. Hopefully will be up and running within the next 24 hours. I'm just happy it was replaced no questions asked. It actually was sent out to me the same day it was received so that's some quick turn around time.
They can always check for root eeven if it doesnt turn on how? Via the sdcard they take it out and plug it into a sdcard reader then onnpc they check for stuff unusual like superuser app or anything revelant lol

And besides, files related to root are not stored on the SD.
From release notes on emma you can see that from 2.11.4 version they added detection of rooted phones..
So answer is yes, they can detect if phone is rooted, ofc if they are able to read data from phone..
I have tried 3 different unlock companies online and none have been able to generate a unlock code for my new phone. This is unreal. I dodged the rooted phone issue easily since they couldn't power on phone, but they sent me back a locked Rogers phone and no luck getting it unlocked yet. This sucks :-(
Hi guys, my phone is flashed so I guess that will make this whole process painful...
But here is the story, I have omega version 12.1 I think (maybe 11 or 13) it has been on my phone for 1 + months now, so I am fairly certain it isn't anything to do with firmware. Phone wont turn on, wont go into download mode or anything. I have tried taking the battery out and leaving it out for 5 minutes, still nothing.
It was working fine before I went to bed, had 10 percent battery and was just on home screen when I put it on charge, not in app or anything. Then seems to be hard bricked after waking up, so happened sometime overnight.
I am not with a carrier, brought it locally outright at my local consumers electronics store (JB-HI-FI)
Since it is hard bricked to the point it wont turn on in download mode does that mean there is no way for them to know it is flashed unless they fix it (in which all is ok)?
Never done a warranty return, do I just take it into store and they send it off? How long will this take?
On top of all this I cut my old sim doown using a cutting template, and it appeared to slide in fine, but after trying to remove it today the push eject isn't working, and tips to get this out, doesn't appear to be enough room to grip it with tweesers.
Thanks.
So as we keep on saying in all posts, the next step u have to make is try with an usb jig.
U know what is that?

No, have never heard of one. Just talked to samsung live chat and they said to have a proper diagnostic to take it down to a service centre, would anyone recommend this, or try this jig thing first?

Since it's already harbricked, i'd say just turn it in and let Samsung fix it for you. It is under warranty, and last time i brought in my i9000 that I bricked, they just replaced the phone. the jig is ok only if you already know where to get one or how to make one, but if you have to go out of your way for it, just use the warranty.

Ok, Think that is best, can't really go without phone for 2-3 weeks while waiting for a JIG to arrive.
Just a few questions about the service centre, do you think they will ask me if I have flashed the phone? Cause I'm afraid they will think the brick was caused by that (could be) but probably unlikely since it died during the night a month after its latest flash.
If they do get it working will they go in and check the flash counter? Then what happens?
And lastly, if they ask me if I have flashed it should I lie and say no?
Thanks for the help.
I ordered my jig from ebay from overseas but it arrived in a few days.

Nope brisbane here, thanks for the offer though. What would the chances be of a JIG fixing it though, cause I have a feeling the mainboard has died. Kinda wish I didn't turn off the red LED charging light, apparently some others who's phones hardbricked the light still turned on showing some sign of life.
Any suggestions on sorting out the micro sim card issue now, assume I have to get it our before taking it to service centre, or just leave it in for them to fix?

-it will force the S3 in download mode
BUT
-it will not reset the flash counter like with S2
Got a little bit of good news, this might help other people out with jammed sim cards, NO damage and worked like a treat.
In the top of the sim card holder down the bottom left there is a little circle around one mill wide, got a sharp thumbtack and pushed it gentelly into the sim card, the just applied a little pressure and the sim card started to slide up, was very easy, had a great grip on the sim cad and no damage done trying to grab it with needle nose pliers like I read elsewhere, now to get the phone replaced or unbricked.
Thinking about it more I think it is a hardware fault, cause I had flashed the correct version of omega for international S3, I havn't had any wrong signs like freezing or crashing, been working flawlessly for over a month, then out of the blue completely dead. So I think I will just go into the service centre and tell them I suspect the motherboard has died, or the charger port (didn't charge over night), dont have a spare battery to test with though).

That video is pretty cool, don't have an old connector to try it, but seeing as my phone didn't hard brick from a flash going wrong while flashing or wrong firmware or anything I have a feeling a JIG or similar wont work. Would try it if I had the connector though.
How often do batterys and charger ports fail, cause that could be another reason I guess.

Exactly. There were no problems with the flashing part, i think ypu have a hardware issue.
They didn't ask me anything really, just asked what happened prior to the phone dying.
But i was ready to lie my ass off.. lol!
Dont say anything about flashing. They wont even bother trying to flash the phone if they dont get it into download mode.

Ok, thanks for the info, I've tried everything besides a JIG to try get it into a download mode, so I doubt they will get it into download mode, Ive seen a couple of other cases where the S3 has had a mainboard issue, only other thing is in the last week I have been using the wall charger where as I normally use the computer and usb, so not sure if this could link to it though, might have got a power surge, but had no storms in months so unlikely and the fuse box is modern with pretty good protection. Ill just go in and tell them it was working one night, and dead when I woke up the next morning, which is the truth. And if they ask if its flashed, ill miss understand them and say, not the screen wasn't flashing/flickering when it died, I was asleep
Reality is though if they get the phone to a restored point to where they can see the flash counter, then I no longer need their help to fix it.
One more question. At the service centres do they try fix it while I'm there, or do they tell s to come back in a few hours, or do they ring a few days later. And if they can't get it in download mode do they normally give you a replacement there? Or do they ship it off to get parts replaced and then ship it back taking weeks/months?
Thanks
I'd give the jig a chance. Just imho.
Btw it is very likely that the jig would arrive in, like, 24-48 hours if you choose the right seller, while other users already told you it's probably gonna take more then a few days (probably from 2 weeks to a month) for samsung to "close the ticket". In my experience only with apple you'd be up and running in less then a week.

I have the same issue so thought i would post here rather than starting a new thread.
Here's the story for mine. Working fine on current rom for about a month no issues at all. Today battery got to about 9% then switched off and i haven't been able to get it to turn on again, no download mode,no recovery, no charging led nothing at all.
I had to change my screen a couple of days ago, has been working fine with the broken screen for months, have i now voided my warranty?
A lot of faulty s3 i think... My s3 suddenly died last night. Battery is around 90+. Check the phone and it's not responding. Power button doesn't work. Doesn't even go to download mode or recovery mode. I'm running on stock ICS with root only. Sad part is I don't have any access for a jig right now. So can't test it. Bought this phone in SG and I'm in the Philippines right now. Warranty is good for SG only. Dec would be my next trip back to SG. By then no S3 as of now. For a phone I'm getting depressed LOL!
over the air jellybean brick my phone unrooted unflashed phone
BEWARE EVERYONE!! when updating to jellybean some do go very wrong! not all! but some do!! and it will brick your phone!! i updated over the air.. and for a few days. my phone kept on freezing! and locking up! one night i went to bed woke up and the phone was stuck on the boot screen! i thought thats weird took battery out, put back in, as ya do.. nothing took sim out and back in nothing... so only option was to reapair it through kies. put serial in and model number in it found the sortware. i downloaded it. told me to put phone in recovery mode.. so i did, kies said it was gonna install it to my phone.. but everytime it tryed to install it kept on saying it couldnt find my phone.. i tryed this all day long used different usb ports. different computers. to know avail, so my only option was to take it in for repair.. so i took it back to phones 4 u! they sent it away, i waited over 2 weeks! which was undiscrible it was like i lost my right arm with no phone! as you can imagine.. than the repair center turned round and said that the phone has been rooted! which it hadnt!! and they said this in order to brake the terms and conditions of my warentee so phones 4 u can get out of giving me a new handset. so they all save money!! i wouldnt do that to a 500 pound phone!! the phone does everything you could want from a phone! im launching a full investigation into this matter.. and have writen a formall complaint to phones 4 u headoffice, and will be contacting trading standards, ofcom, watchdog, and the ombudsman, and plaster it on all the forums ,social networking sights i can think of, to give them as much bad press as possible!! untill my problem is resolved and i will restore there name and clear it once they have done the right thing by me
I am afraid I can also report a bricked S3 here.
Rooted two weeks ago, but did not yet install a rom. Didn't Triangleaway yet aswell.
Same problem as described, I was browsing the net, and suddenly, screen went black (off). Could not get it powered on anymore. (nor in download/recovery mode)
So i brought it to the local telecom service center of my office, they could tell me the battery was fine and the buttons were working but they never saw one in this state.
So they are sending it to a samsung repair company.
This was two days ago, heard nothing yet, but I am very curious if I will get repaired or if I need to pay because of the rooting.
Will post the result if I know more.
Does anyone know if this problem also happens to people who did not root?
Hi Guys!!,
I have an S2 and sadly while doing an update through ODIN, it was interrupted in between and got "ODIN FAIL " message. After that, I tried doing a hard reset, soft reset and even connecting my phone to different computers but somehow there seems to be no life in the phone. Good news is, I know there is nothing wrong with the hardware(as i got it checked by a technician). I just want to know how to start the phone, just to see the symbol, so that i can have it reflashed.Battery has also been completly charged , yet no change

1. Is there any sign of life at all in the phone? Can the phone light up at all?
2. Remove the battery for few minutes ( up to 10mins), the try again if there is sign of life)
If after trying 1 and 2, there is still no sign of life in your phone, then you can simply conclude that Your bootloader has probably been messed up, and therefore your device is hardbricked!
Solution 1:
1. JTAG repair
2. Samsung service repair (free if your device is still under warranty)

Well you can try anything you want but there is realy small possibility that you fix it by yourself.
You can fix it with jtag but i don't think you have one because then you wouldn't ask this question.
Samsung service can repair it but maybe they charge repair (but i think they won't if it's still in waranty).
It's not important is cwm you flashed samsung or not because flashing any cwm that is not made for your phone will cause brick.

Samsung service can repair it but maybe they charge repair (but i think they won't if it's still in waranty).
It's not important is cwm you flashed samsung or not because flashing any cwm that is not made for your phone will cause brick.

Yeah, I've been doing alot of reading today about this.
Looked into a "jig" but it's not even getting to the boot screen so I'm lead to believe this won't work.
Tried loading up through odin again but the program doesn't detect the phones even connected.
When the chargers plugged in, it doesn't even light up.
Reckon i'll give Samsung a go... what's the worst that could happen?
The exact same thing happened to me about 6 months ago, but I was just recently trying to fix it. The worst part is that you can't even access it from your computer and therefore you can't do anything. Let me know if you get it repaired, and how much it cost.

Ok, I just tried a usb jig and it didn't work. Any luck getting your one repaired?

Morning Sean,
If I'm being honest, I never sent it. My friend dropped his i5500 and shattered the lcd so he bought mine for £20 ($35). Thats only $15 less than i paid for it, so i took the hit.
Reading the samsung repair document though they do say that if you can produce a valid proof of purchase and they cant detect any liquid or physical damage they will fix any mobile upto 24mths after purchase.
If you still have the receipt, it may be worth it.
Hope you get it fixed.
