It appears that with Lollipop, Google has decided to close an unpublished (private) method (setMobileDataEnabled) that many developers were able to use to manage the data functionality. Is there anyway around this to allow for applications like Tasker or AutoTether to turn the mobile hotspot on when it connects to a specific bluetooth profile?

Last night while using the galaxy 3 hotspot i noticed bluetooth had been turned on
(i assume remotely) and the bluetooth tethering box was also checked (i assume remotely).
I always keep bluetooth off, but it appeared someone nearby was using the bluetooth connection
to the S3 to gain access to the internet via bluetooth tethering to the hotspot.
My question is, how was someone able to remotely activate bluetooth on the phone when I had it off. Also,
how were they able to check the box for bluetooth tethering to the hotspot which i also leave unchecked?
Is there any way to completely remove the bluetooth sharing app from the phone?
It's not possible, someone is using your device, not remotely using it..
Bluetooth hacks are not possible without the owner knowing.
Wifi hacks are more likely but no control can be gained as the permissions do not exist.
Rogue apps are quite likely.
The most obvious thing I can tell you is for anyone to be connected via Bluetooth they would have to be less than 15ft away to get a reliable connection.
It's very possible and the most likely candidate that bluetooth tether was checked prior to activating tethering.

This may seem like a dumb question but... is there a way or an app to essentially turn on WiFi hotspot feature so that I can make an ad-hoc LAN but NOT let all the devices connected access the internet?
Example: I enable WiFi hotspot on my phone. I still have a cellular data connection so I can browse the web, stream music, etc. but any other device that connect to my phone's hotspot does NOT get my data connection, they are just on the LAN the built in android hotspot creates.
I don't want to let other users "run up" my data usage but I want the other users when they connect to my hotspot to be all on one network.
I have a bootloader unlocked Motorola Moto X (original, 2013) and rooted and I use Tasker. Maybe after I enable the hotspot feature I could modify some IP tables via a Tasker app to "enable/disable" internet blocking.
Or maybe there's an app out there for this? I suppose another alternative would be disable mobile data and then enable hotspot (if that's even allowed) but the pitfall there is then my phone doesn't have internet either.
Thanks,
Mike
Hi folks,
since the Oreo update my auto enable task in Tasker stopped working. Tasker seems to be unable to switch the Wifi Hotspot on Oreo. I made a task that enables a hotspot for my car infotainment system as soon as the phone got connected to it automaticaly.
Any way to do this on Oreo with or without Tasker?
Specifically, why is it that some features which only like to work over Wi-Fi, such as screen mirroring from my phone to my PC, will not use the Wi-Fi hotspot connection from the same device? I noticed similar issues trying to set up a Chromecast without a router. I do not have home internet, only my phone. It seems to me that the programming for something like this should be incredibly easy. Have the hotspot treated as a Wi-Fi network with an API, so apps that specifically need to use a Wi-Fi connection can just use that. Why wouldn't this work?
I have interface for car with WIFI and i use it always when i driving. Problem is that i dont have access to internet becouse i use wifi to connect to OBD II inerface and mobile data automatically turn off. Is there a way to turn on mobile data while using WIFI? I have Huawei P20 lite with root andorid 9
Of course you can use Wi-Fi & Data Connection at the same time.
You can try Speedify 4.0 app - available off Google Play Store - that let you connect your phone’s Wi-Fi and data connection at the same time. It doesn’t require an account.
