I recently bought a Chinese android 4.1.1 phone and dont really like the look of it and was goolging around and found about these things called ROMS. I know the phone has to be rooted and I found this program called SRSRoot and was able to root the phone. but now I am confused, can I install any ROM found on this site? does it have to be compatible with android 4.1?
which model?
You cannot just install any ROM. If you do, you might end up bricking your phone.
Try googling 'phone model + Rom' .
It would also be wise to know about recovery.

My problem is, I received an Y300 as a gift, haven't yet received it but I want to prepare the necessary things to root it and install custom roms on it. No, this isn't the first phone I install a custom rom to, as I have already played with an Optimus L5 of a friend. Could you please answer this questions?
a) How do I root the phone and install CWM or other recovery? I have found many tutorials but they are confusing, and require waiting for 2-3 days for the code to unlock the bootloader. In case you need to know, it probably is the normal Y300, the international one, so no Asian Model
b) How many ROMS are there for this phone? I like Cyanogenmod and stock roms the most, I can barely stand the stock rom in the phone, so I would like to install a new ROM on it ASAP.
c) By flashing the new ROM, do I lose IMEI or something like that (EFS Folder in Samsung phones)? If so, how can I back it up?

This was all I needed, I've found a CM11 Rom in the Modaco forums, hope it works well. Just got to wait until I get the phone
Okay, so I downloaded the latest nighly of the ROM, but it appears that CM11 is not very stable and has many problems with SystemUI (statusbar) and other things. Aren't there any ROMS for the Y300 on XDA? Also, will I lose my network connectivity if I do the wipes (data,cache, dalvik cache)?

EDIT: Found CM10.1 here in XDA but it redirected me to Modaco, however it is quite stable, downloading now. So which wipes do I have to do, in order to get everything smooth? Also, as I said will I lose my network connectivity or IMEI if I do these wipes, or I can do this without worrying
I was messing around with Custom ROMs and all and forgot to backup my Stock ROM. I tried finding the Stock ROM for my phone on Google but every time there was something wrong with it... Could anyone tell me is it possible to restore the ROM for my phone? (Huawei Ascend G510) or must I just deal with the partly broken ROMS?

Depends on which version of the G510 you have, if it is tied to a carrier, and what update it was on before knowing which update files to suggest. For example: http://www.modaco.com/topic/367970-official-firmware-g510-0100v100r001c02b193/ But check out the Modaco forums in general as they deal a lot more with Huawei than XDA does. in general.

Recently on the advise of reliance store personal, that this tab is better in performance or equal to Samsung and Apple iPad, I purchased the same.
As usual I rooted the phone without much efforts' as it has 4.2.2 VERSION OF THE ROM.

I compiled the custom ROM and using it for the past one week.
When I googled I could not find any custom ROM.
As today I do not have a good WiFi network to port the custom ROM please wait for a day.
BE CAREFUL. YOU BACK UP YOUR ORIGINAL ROM. USER DATA AND IMEI NUMBER.
Backing up IMEI is very important. Retrieval is difficult. Or you use dial pace and type *#06# You will get the number and it will be useful.
I shall port the simple custom ROM based on the stock ROM positively by tomorrow.
