[Q] [POLL] Does your G2 overheat on Lollipop? - G2 General

Ever since receiving Lollipop I've found the phone to get hotter and hotter during regular usage; browsing, texting, basically anything with the screen on and brightness at 50-60%. It gets hot around the camera button after like 5-10 minutes. On JB/KK, the phone only ever got so hot during intensive gaming.
I'm interested how many of you are experiencing the issue. Please vote and let me know your model/ROM.
I'm on D802 and running Cloudyfa 3.1(same thing was happening on stock V30D).

I experience overheating a lot with lolipop, even with a various custom kernels and roms, I've tried UV, downclock, etc...
Then I went back to stock kernel and soomboons ultralite rom. Started all over again by wiping everything. Installed all my apps, and with trickster mod downclocked to 1577400 with ondemand gov, and everything else stock. I think that's it, been a week now and...
Phone doesn't overheat that easily, UI experience is very smooth considering huge downclock (offcourse it is snapier on 2,26, but then you have battery/overheat problem)
My battery finaly last over 4hr SOT, with screen most on max brightness, and everything synced on wifi/4g.
Hope it can help
chers
EDIT: this is a screenshot after I typed this post, temperature is just fine...

Yes mine does overheat a lottt, as a result i got two yellow spots on both side of the top screen. there was no overheating issue with kitkat.

Not single sign of overheating. Actually I'm getting insane battery life out of L.P./Cloudy. Battery stats attached with medium usage with Wi-Fi and sometimes 3g.

Nothing special, just installed amplify and lollipop memory leak fix xposed modules and thats it. Not even trying to save battery.

YES! Have a T-Mobile D801 here. On stock LP 5.0.2 my G2 DEFINITELY heats up during normal usage. Since I've been on CM12 and Ive really not had any overheating issues at all.

Been running a T-Mobile D801 on the stock Lollipop 5.0.2. No overheating problems at all, other than when running Waze extended times in the car while charging at the same time.
Note: I always keep background sync on most things switched off on any Android phone, so the same applies here. Gives me close to two days battery life.

Twitter can fix the 2.3.6 battery issue

We all need to tweet our concern about the battery life after the 2.3.6 Update. Be specific about 2.3.6 Update and Galaxy S2 I777.

Don't say 2.3.6 update, say UCKK6 - that indicates a very specific broken build.

Well everyone would have great battery life if they only had their screen on for 5 seconds like you.
Also, with hardly no screen time, your phone is awake quite a bit.

Possible Resolution to battery Drain Issue
I called Samsung Support and they helped me to change the wifi sleep policy from "never" to "when screen turns off". This resulted in using up less than 10% of my battery last night from 11PM to 7AM.
Action Taken:
1. Settings
2. Wireless and Network
3. Wifi Settings
4. Click Menu Button (next to Home Button) and Select Advanced
5. Select Wi-Fi sleep policy
6. Change it from "Never" to either "Never when plugged in" or "When Screen turns off".
7. One person reported success rebooting their phone after making these changes. For me I did not have to reboot.
I also thought that this may increase my hspa+ data usage, but it was hardly noticeable last night.
Yea...you're actually getting terrible battery life smarty pants

This happens with custom roms too. It is the wifi bug that Entropy512 noted in the other thread.
I'm getting around 20 hours on unnamed ROM with the mentioned wifi sleep policy setting. Is this good? I read my rss feeds like 5-6 times a day, make about 1 hour of phone calls, read autoguide forums like 5-6 times as well. I think it's ok?

Using the battery app see what app or service is keeping your phone awake. That would be my guess as to what the problem is. I would also suggest flashing cpalmers kernel as well, which has been really good for me in limiting awake time.

Install BatteryGuru, give it a couple days to learn how you use your phone, and watch how it saves your battery once the learning period is done. I swear by this app, it brought me from almost a day to about a day and a half as far as battery life is concerned.
I installed the Gsam battery, it shows that "phone radio" was sucking down a vast majority of the battery.

Then you must be in an area where service isn't good and your phone is searching for service which kills the battery quickly. To conserve battery turn on air plan mode and then turn service on when you get into a zone with better coverage. This will help your battery a lot.

My opinion..don't install any more apps than what you only use. You install more apps it will obviously suck more battery. What you do. Root/unlocked the bootloader and install a sense 5 4.1.2 base Rom. I came from stock and since I've installed a sense 5 stock Rom I've notice a big battery saver comparing from the original sense 4+ stock.hopefully that helps.
Thanks all
Strangely none of this helped the battery drain is too high in standby, after resting (no apps installed only stoke apps) and even flashing sense 5 rom still 15% per hour and even in Air plan mode . The strange thing during the use of the phone the drain is normal.

Ultimate set of battery saving tips!

Alright I know this may be a little redundant giving all of the various topics on this, but I thought it would be wise to have a cohesive thread for all tips. If you can, post whatever you do to save battery. To keep this a little more organized, here is what should be seen:
Greenify: Tell us what you Greenify
Brightness: Tell us your brightness settings.
Sync: What do you sync? Feel free to go into detail
Usage: Light, Medium, or Heavy? Also feel free to go into detail.
Screen-on time: What is your typical screen on time?
Lastly, feel free to post any tips! Please try to participate and I will update this post with the top battery saving tips!
My stats are as shown:
Greenify: A few of my apps, and youtube would be the only system-type app.
Brightness: I use Lux with the ascending settings on
Sync: I always have sync off unless my phone is charging.
Usage: I am more of a moderate user. using it somewhat heavy, but not often.
Screen-on time: My screen-on time varies, but generally is around 3 Hrs 45 Minutes by about 15%
Dang.. Another battery thread?!

I apologize for the redundancy. I would like a cohesive and organized list.

Greenify:everything except viper4android
Brightness:halfbar except when sunlight
Sync:whatsapp mail gmail and contacts
Usage:heavy user
Screen:22hrs usage with 7:30 or 8 screen
Tips:
I have 3g most of the day(no LTE in my country)
The only game i play is Day of the tentacle on SCUMMVM
If you re using just whatsapp you can switch to 2g(normally i dont but its a good idea)
Install betterbatterystats and always check for wakelocks

Battery ZV6

On Wifi, my battery life is fine. It takes a couple hours to fall off the 100% mark. At work my battery will fall 8-10% within a couple hours. This only seems to be since going from ZV4 to ZV6. At 1st I thought is was the trade off for better performance, but I don't think that's the case now. Greenify doesn't seem make a difference outside of my home wifi. My gsam battery app shows android system is the main culprit after screen. Could it be the ZV6 radio to blame?

I average about 5.5hr of screen on time with mild to heavy usage (ZV6), which on this high power screen I think is pretty great. This is with me barely ever being on wifi since I'm hardly ever at home to use it being due to my profession as a field insurance adjuster. And I use my phone literally all day long whether its emails, phone calls, texts, or surfing for general information. So, Im not sure what you are considering "bad" as far as battery, but I am not complaining at all.

Usually, charge the phone up to 100%, run it down to about 10% charge it back up and it usually has to learn how the ROM runs.
But glad you got it working.

Same thing here after updating. Android OS is currently at the top with 10% followed by Android System with 9% in my phone at the moment. System is draining more than the screen. Weird.
Same here. On DP5 battery life was better for me.
same for me, system and Android on top, weird.
What's the reported "Keep Awake" time for those processes? Right now, for me, is Screen on top with 10%, Android System and Android OS next with 8% each. However, the keep awake time is only 3m41s and 11s respectively. That doesn't look too bad, actually.
The OS requires almost a week to settle. Calm your tits.

I installed it last night and so far today I'm at 3% per hour after 9hr25min elapsed. This only has an hour of screen time but that includes about 20 HDR photos (which in MM would have KILLED my battery), BT and WiFi are both on continuously but not connected, GPS is on high accuracy, screen timeout at 1 min, several reboots cycles (trying to figure out how to wipe the cache), etc. In other words, I'm on track for a 30+ hour day, and I'm not doing one thing to try to conserve the battery. Granted there's not much SoT so far but still, I'm impressed. Even more so because tribal knowledge seems to think that the OS needs a few days to "settle down" before true battery life can be assessed. I'm not sure I really buy into that but if it is true, the battery endurance should be stunning...
Have been getting the same results in the Beta and now with final release having the same problem./ Battery life is no good. And doze doesn't seem to kick in even at night. Android os and Android System taking as much mah as the screen. Not good.
http://imgur.com/3jAqetI
http://imgur.com/a/9t5fF
http://imgur.com/a/EV0ry
Here's what mine's doing so far. Note that it seems to Doze more or less the instant the screen shuts off.
Same issue here, battery life isn't super impressive.
These don't have much meaning without context: How are you using them? How much SoT? Are all the radios on? Etc...
Did factory reset. See if it helps. I'll post after it, "settles in"
Doze seems to kick in, but I don't know whether made it more or less aggressive than before (I'm guessing less), where battery gains are now, and how they're spread out. On MM, I was getting the typical 2-3% drop every night. For the past three nights with N, the drop is 5-6%.
Received the device a few hours ago and updated to N.
All default settings, no additional app.
No 3G/lte as I don't have yet a nano sim.
Bt is on but not connected.
Positioning is on battery saving.
Screen brightness is at 33%.
After 40mn of web surfing with wifi, or playing with the menus I lost 6%.
I'm happy with that :good:

Quick question how did you update so quickly if you just got it?
My second cycle but this time with Ninja Kernel and some kernel tweaks. With sync and location enabled the whole time. Lots of web browsing, video streaming, plus a few minutes of gaming and phone calls. It's not spectacular but not too terrible for me either.
Mine isn't bad. Updated from DP5 using OTA in TWRP.
Unencrypted, rooted, with EX kernel and some CPU profile.

Getting about an hour less sot on nougat than m.
They seemed to have fixed the performance issues of m by sacrificing screen on battery life.
