Ok I guys I can appreciate this sort of question comes up a lot but I was wondering what is the latest way to unlock the bootloader?
Since I have had my Z2 for about 6 months I have been running on Stock + Rooted 4.4.4 on a Locked Bootloader. Recently I tried Lollipop but tethering was not working and now I have the itch to unlock my devices bootloader, the last device I did this on was my Nexus 7 2013 tablet.
I have just installed my device drivers and I have my platform-tools folder setup so the Windows console recognises adb and fastboot (can't remember if there is a command for flashtool needed or not?).
So, apart from not remembering whether or not I should have a console command for flashtool (pretty sure you use fastboot flash don't you?), what is the latest way to unlock the Z2 bootloader?
I want to play around a bit and flash some of the CM based roms.
EDIT: I asked about relock in case I ever need to relock it, I already backed up my ta partition months ago.
Thanks

Hello everyone. I am new to the world of android, but I'm a quick enough learner. Here is my specific problem:
I have an AT&T Atrix 4g. It is currently superuser rooted. It is currently running Android ROM 2.3.4.
Shortly after rooting the device, I downloaded ROM Manager and successfully installed through the application Clockwork Recovery. I tried to select the option to back up the current ROM (the stock android) on my SD card.. however, during the load screen, I got an error message stating
"Failed to boot 2
Starting RSD protocol support"
So doing some research, I came upon the conclusion that the reason I can't backup or really do anything with ROMs is that I needed an unlocked bootloader.
I went to Atrix4ghacks and followed the instructions on how to unlock bootloader and install permanent recovery.
This is the critical part: When I entered into the command prompt "fastboot oem unlock", instead of proceeding normally I got the return message:
"OEM unlock is not implemented"
Again, did a google search and read that Android 2.3.4 on Atrix 4g does NOT allow unlocked bootloaders.
So, the questions that I have that result from this are:
1.) Can someone here confirm that, in fact, I am unable to unlock the bootloader on my phone?
2.) If so, is there a viable workaround that is both reasonably safe and not overly complicated? Please note that I have no backup in case something goes wrong, leading me to
3.) Is there a way to backup my stock 2.3.4 ROM without an unlocked bootloader?
4.) Can I revert safely to an older android version that supports unlocked bootloaders?
5.) Can you actually install new ROMs without an unlocked bootloader?
6.) Am I totally screwed?
HUGE THANKS to anyone who actually bothered reading this, and even more thanks to anyone who can answer/point me in the right direction. Much appreciated!!!

Thanks a ton for that link. I'm sorry to ask once again, but I'm very wary of possibly bricking my phone... so I must ask: Is your solution possible with 2.3.4? Or will the phone softbrick?
If you did the Over The Air (OTA) update to 2.3.4 then yes your phone will softbrick after flashing the bootloader. Re-enter fastboot and issue the unlock commands and everything will be fine when you reboot.
Around 1-2 months ago, I was using Nightly CM11 by Percy so I already had unlocked the bootloader & rooted the device. But then I went back to stock ROM expecting that Lollipop will arrive for Condor within a month (totally disappointed!).
Now, I would like to go back to CM11 latest Nightly, so my questions are as follows :
- Do I have to repeat all the steps which I used to unlock bootloader for first time ?
- Or simple fastboot oem unlock will do ?
- Or I have to again get unlock bootloader key from Motorola & follow those damn steps again ?
The key you have will work.
You just need to execute the command
Fastboot oem unlock <key>.
I have this PadFone S for over a week, and it's my 5th android device, but certainly the 1st one having a locked bootloader. So far I have read how to flash stock firmware, how to root and unroot, which requires unlocking bootloader first using CrowLock, how to install CWM and CM12 etc. I haven't try anything yet (still uprooted, and my bootloader is still unlocked).
One question still unanswered, is there any way to lock the bootloader after it's unlocked ? Perhaps by using the CrowLock app, or simply flashing stock firmware ? I need to be assured that any changes I do is reversible.
Thanks in advance
I too purchased the Padfone S and have the same question. Also, does anyone know if flashing crowlock will void the warranty of the phone? Can someone who has unlocked their bootloader using crowlock paste the output of "fastboot oem device-info"?
Does Asus' bootloader not check the signature for the recovery partition before booting from recovery? Given that everyone is flashing the recovery after rooting and running crowlock from the recovery, it seems so, but I'm not sure.
Anyone know if the bootloader's source code is available? I know it's based on the littlekernel, but I'm not sure which version it was built from.
Bump! I need the answer too.
hey everyone. trying to OEM unlock the TWRP bootloader. When I type "fastboot OEM unlock" it will reboot into TWRP bootloader, and nothing unlocks. I know this because when I type "fastboot oem device-info" it says "unlocked FALSE".
I have OEM unlock and USB debugging enabled.
This is a phone with previously successfully installed CM13, and now I'm trying to revert to stock/unrooted. I can't seem to flash the recovery at all here because I can't get the damn thing to unlock.
Any ideas?
Did you lock the bootloader ? If your flashing Roms and custom recoverys imagine its already unlocked. Bootloader won't lock itself. If you want full stock just flash any OS2 firmware with twrp. You can worry about stock recovery after. I would just leave the bootloader unlocked won't hurt anything.
I had the same issue not long ago. Finally, i used the mega unbrick guide, but warning, all the data is lost
Ps: Sorry for bad english
hey, thanks for the response. I have been following the following tutorial (and others similar for installing CM13):
(great, website won't let me post it here... it's the unlockr oneplus x guide)
so yes, I originally flashed the stock recovery and replaced it with the one from the tutorial. There were a few hiccups during setup, which may have affected why I can't easily update nightly now, so now I'm trying to revert to the unrooted stock state so I can try from scratch, hopefully fixing the issues I'm seeing now. The problem is that I can't flash the recovery using the stock recovery... I can't even update the damn recovery because it's locked. Is this what is meant by a 'soft brick' ?
I am a complete noob. Never rooted any device. The only reason I'm doing this is my kid wants to do gps spoofing on pokemon go. I've been doing research for a couple of days now. There are many tutorials but all are slightly different.
The reddit page called the number 1 hub for pokemon go spoofing says what I need to do is....
Unlock Bootloader.
Install Magisk.
Install Smali Patcher.
This has proven to be more difficult that I first assumed. So far I have unlocked bootloader but I made a mistake because the first few tutorials I followed said nothing about backing up DRM keys or TA keys. So I guess I have lost that option.
Now I'm trying to install Magisk but apparently I need to do this through TWRP.
So trying to install TWRP. Found the right one for my device on TWRP official website says something about extracting stock boot image and patching but can't find any tutorials on how to do this.
Any help from this point will be much appreciated!
I'm starting to question is any of this actually worth it. If I new it was going to be this difficult before I started I don't think I would of bothered. If I was to change my mind is there a way can restore the tablet to its original state. I've read up a bit about relocking the bootloader but does that mean I've lost DRM keys and TA keys for nothing.(Is that even that big of a deal. Will my tablet not perform as it should without them?) I've read a little about Sony Emma or using the Sony companion to restore the tablet. Does that mean I get the DRM or TA keys back?
Ok so I was unsure if I unlocked the bootloader properly. My dialler app has disappeared so can't check it that way. Trying to check through cmd on minimal adb and fastboot but it just hangs when I type fastboot oem device-info. So I installed sony companion and tried software repair and it said it cant repair as the bootloader has been unlocked.
So that confirms it has definitely been unlocked. Will there be a problem If I Relock and try software repair again?
Ok so I got eager and thought f it. I'm just gonna do it. So I got the twrp.img file, put it in the adb and fastboot folder, in cmd wrote fastboot flash recovery TWRP.img. It looked like everything went ok. I'm pretty sure it said successful. So I'm now trying to boot into recovery mode. Holding down and power on and nothing is happening. Just boots up normally. What am I missing.
I downloaded the twrp app from appstore messed around with a bit and its needs root device not rooted. Did I not do the flash right?
Can I use flashtool to flash twrp.img instead of adb and fastboot?
