Ever since I installed an app and then started receiving random SMS and unwanted email spam due to that app accessing my private info and selling me out, I've been using PDroid. Unfortunately PDroid does not currently work for ICS out of the box. You can create your own patch via threads found on XDA. I've created and am sharing the CWM flashable zip along with the restore for King Kang date code July 7th, 10th & 16th.
This was created in windows with Cygwin and [Script]Auto-Patcher. It takes longer to download all the programs needed to create the patch files than it is to create them so this is for the lazy.
DISCLAIMER I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS TO YOUR PHONE USING THE FILES LISTED IN THIS THREAD.
THIS ONLY WORKS WITH King Kang date code July 7th, 10th or 16th.
Directions:
Install PDroid from Market/Play
Flash update_KingKang_JulyXXth.zip for the version of King Kang you have installed in CWM/TWRP
Block apps access to your personal info in PDroid
Enjoy!
If you FUBAR your phone then use the appropiate restore_KingKang_JulyXXth.zip
OR
reflash the King Kang ROM zip over your existing King Kang install.
KingKang July 7th & 10th patch created using Auto-Patcher v70 script.
KingKang July 16th patch created using Auto-Patcher v100 script.
This is for any TW ICS ROM?

Yes. You can create your own patches for PDroid AND SuperCharger for the ROM you use. Just check out this link that is in the OP.

Not really. I went on an app install spree and then started getting spam texts and email.
If you really want to trouble shoot try using titanium backup our some other app to mass freeze all your user apps. Only leave like 5 unfrozen and see if you get any more issues. If not then unfreeze a couple more at a time. This will help track it down systematically.
Might also look at the apps that have internet access permission first.

Anybody try this on the Rezound yet?
http://www.rekey.io/#intro
Link to app in Play Store --> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=io.rekey.rekey
Some of the reviews talk about boot loops, but there aren't any reviews from Rezounds.
Update: I ran a backup and then installed it. Seems to have worked fine, but the Bluebox Security Scanner still says my phone is unpatched. Hmmm.
I wouldn't use it. I think 4.3 will have the patch and CyanogenMod has already patched it and put it in there rom

google has patched this on their server side and has sent a patch out manufactures, who should be pushing it out to carriers.
AFAIK the patch alone on google servers were more than enough needed to stop this from ever coming to light.
but as a caution, when installing an app outside the market (ie play, amazon) make sure it's a trusted source. If you're still at ease just dont sideload apps. apps coming from the market will be scanned and made sure they dont exploit this.
hope this helps put your mind at ease a little.

I installed the app and enabled it. Now my Note II is boot looping. Phone will boot to lock screen, and a few seconds after I unlock, it will hang and reboot. Any ideas how to recover ? I am going to try using Aroma File manager to see if I can delete the apk and see if that helps.

If you are experienceing boot loops, get Aroma File Manager running from CWM and delete this file /data/app/io.rekey.rekey-1.apk. It should get ur phone up and running again

this is the most secure way to patch it on the phone side.
if you are running cm10.1 it has already been patched
if you are running AOKP or PAC that was built after 7/8 (i think) it has already been patched.

Rooted my phone using the Vroot method and did some surveying with permission manager, xPrivacy and I stumbled upon a mysterious app called MtkCamera (com.example.cameraroot). I have no recollection of ever installing this app. I find this suspicious because I use permission manager on other phones running ICS and never have to deal with this app before. Considering all the apps listed are installed from Google Play Store, I decided to restrict all permission and uninstall the app. Check out the permissions list.

Sure, but what does it do? Does it steal your contacts? Send SMS'? Log your IMEI? Log your keystrokes? Or is it nothing out of the ordinary? Who knows!
I could decompile it myself, but I have no idea what to look for, so that's a complete waste of time.

So the reason some people do not have can be simply because they do not have a TW firmware. Have a TW firmware and got it after vroot. But where would be the point for vroot to put a malicious apps on your phone when they can do anything they want while rooting your device? Maybe you should not take your phone with you on the bathroom, they may record you hahahaha.

So you don't find the following permissions suspicious?
Change network connectivity
Connect and disconnect wifi
Full network access
View network connection
View wi-fi connection
Pair with bluetooth devices
Allow wifi multicast reception
Call me paranoid, but I think this is a spying app...
this app with us from the beginning.
this is what I found -platform for the bottom and top of the camera for a detailed explanation of the process and the introduction of the frame code
that does seem suspicious.
Is the view that this root method is trustworthy?

This is not even working fully yet. I lost track of this due to working on GPE ROM. When I have more time I can check why it is not fully working.
From what I have seen the only way to ad other devices would be for LG to allow it. LG encrypts their IR blaster so only devices listed in the quickset device profile work if LGs IR blaster unless someone can crack the encryption. You can search play store for quickset and install the version from play store to see if it has more devices but IR not working yet on AOSP based ROMs yet.

Oh okay, I take it the reason it was working before is because then I was on LG's ROM not an AOSP rom? If this is case, would the backup I made of the LG ROM be of any use? I could pull out the quick remote app or something.

If you check in the G2 themes and apps forum there is a way to get QRemote working with AOSP ROMs and maybe the same method and/or files will work on G Pad.
