Hello. I've a Samsung Galaxy S4 i9505 running on stock Lollipop 5.0.1. I've been trying to flash a custom rom on the phone for some time now, but I get stuck on a boot loop every single time. I have to revert to my stock firmware either through odin on my pc, or just restoring my backup through recovery.
I've tried more than 5 different custom roms to no avail. I've also tried different flashing methods. First, I used Philz Touch recovery. Then I used the wonderful Flashfire from Chainfire. And then I tried TWRP. It was on TWRP that I came across: "E: Unable to mount Efs folder". I did a little research and I found out that my efs folder is empty (or at least, I can't see anything in the folder, even using Root Explorer). However, my phone is fine. No issues with network or wifi. My imei also seems untouched.
So, I'm wondering, is it possible that's the cause of my boot loops? If it is, how can I solve the issue? And if it isn't, what could be the cause of the boot loops, and how do I solve it?
Sorry for the length of the post. Please help.

Hello there,
albeit it's not the same phone but have you tried this way?

Nope

Came across that when I was doing research on efs folders. Doesn't work for me. Thanks anyway.

Hi everyone,
Pardon me if I'm asking in the wrong place, this is my first thread.
I just bought Samsung Galaxy Young CDMA SCH i509 and successfully rooted it. I'm looking everywhere for any custom recovery like CWM or RZ to Nandroid backup my phone so I can safely start tinkering with it. Although lately I found a CWM custom recovery that is said to be compatible with my device, but when I tried to Nandroid backup it made some installed applications disappear. And when I roll back backed up image to verify the result, it made my phone boot in infinite loop.
My question is:
since I can't find any working recovery for my device, is it possible to just unpack another Samsung Galaxy recovery.img and edit some files in there or do I have to compile it from scratch? Because I'm tempted to just edit it but I don't know its partition layout and anything

I suppose maybe you should focus on the bootloop first? I don't know an answer though. Sorry.
Did I helped you? Click the THANKS button! My Galaxy Mini would like it, just like I do!
Hi Guys, I've have been very confident about rooting and flashing ROMS on different Android Phones because of this Forums but I'm stuck with this Korean S2 that I've flashed a MOD ROM to. It's an SHW M250S and unfortunately I've bricked the internal storage of the phone during hack. I thought that this was the issue why whenever I flash a ROM it will eventually crash. It'll turn-on and boot-up okay (though sometimes it initially gets stuck on the CM logo and I have to reboot the phone to reach the Set-up wizard) but when I start installing apps it'll eventually stop responding and then crash, it will still start up but then it will crash again immediately. And when I say crash I mean i get stuck on a particular screen, it'll eventually goes black (notification bar still visible) and the only way to get it running again is to restart it. I tried Multiple Mods JB and KK and Stock 19100 Roms but i had the same result. The last thing I tried doing was swapping the Internal Storage with the SD card and I though I had it fixed but still same issue remains. Please Help Guys.
There's a "how to" thread on converting Korean s2 into i9100. You can find the thread in the general section. It involves flashing a pit file and stock i9100 ROM. The info works as I have 2 of the same model you have and I've converted both. Good luck

Thanks, I have already done that though, i've flashed the original pit file from that thread and then an original stock rom, that's where my problem started actually. I also tried the pit file to unbrick the internal storage and was successful in doing so, as far as i can tell, but still the phone crashes. Funny thing though, it only crashes now whenever I start restoring apps from google play. If I don't install anything, it works okay... so far.

Ya, you have a strange situation. You might want to try flashing a dorimanx kernel and use the partition check and repair in stweaks. Maybe you have corrupt blocks...just a guess...
Dear,
I installed 4.4 RC1 PA, per the instructions, however I'm stuck in bootloop. Then I tried to go back to an earlier version, of course with a suitable kernel, but still the same. Then I installed the stock rom 4.1.2, and again repeated bootloop. Finally install the stock ICS, the system is booted, but I do not have a GSM network. Once again I try to install custom, happens to bootloop. Works only stock ICS but without GSM network. Do something was wrong?
Thanks in advance!
I guess your EFS partition got all messed up while flashing. No baseband,no serial,no imei,no signal and so on.Have you made any backup of it?
This EFS thing is tricky.Search around here to get an idea about this.

What you think, is this possible way to fix? I'll try this. http://www.digitalreborn.com/fix-samsung-galaxy-unable-mount-efs/
So I assume you have a backup. There are plenty of tools for restoring it,like the EFS Professional or kTool. If your backup is in either img or tar format, easy way could be restoring it via philz kernel's advanced recovery(if you are using stock jb or ics).
Hi everybody,
hoping someone can help me as I am really frustrated now and have tried everything I can think of...
first a bit of info, I have an S6 edge, G925F and I was using a custom rom with no issues for a couple of months until all of a sudden I was having the same issue as others where I was getting "not registered on network" from damaged or corrupted /EFS, my imei had changed to 350000000000006 but I still had baseband version etc visible, just imei lost.
I have read on many threads that the answer is to change back to stock rom but no matter what rom i flash from sam mobile, it will not boot, when I go into recovery after booting it says "DM-Verity failed have to check DRK first", no matter what Rom I try but if I flash the odin flashable UNI Kernel after that then it will boot but then I have a rooted stock rom so not actually stock and an unstock kernel and still the not registered on network issue with same imei (350000000000006) .
so far I have tried flashing;
G925FXXS3COK5_G925FOXA3COK5_G925FXXS3COK5_HOME.tar.md5
G925FXXU3COI9_G925FBTU3COJ1_G925FXXU3COI9_HOME.tar.md5
and another one same as above but with XEU sales code as well as trying the EE (EVR) branded one with associated pit file and I've flashed every other pit file with each one as a last resort, to no avail...
nothing boots without flashing separate, non stock kernel, defeating the purpose of trying to return to stock.
p.S. Smart Switch doesn't work either as both it and kies say "SM-G925F does not support initialising, please contact support service"....
what can I do??
I've had 3 samsung phones now, s3, s4 and now s6, all rooted and have flashed countless roms on them and never had this issue and I also have no EFS back up as I have never selected it to back up in TWRP as I didn't know I should have and like I said, haven't had this problem before (kicking myself for not backing it up now...)
any help would be mucho appreciated as I am gutted to have broke my new phone and I am at my wits end with trying to fix it.... I thought I was quite good with tech and have done countless mods and rom flashes to various phones and solved many problems Ive encountered along the way but this is stumping me and I really need help..
Thanks in advance for your time and regards,
Elijah
anybody?
any ideas at all? anyone? how do I get the phone to rebuild or reset the EFS partition so that it refreshes it when I start it up with the sim card in it again? any ideas are more than welcome as I really can't accept Ive bricked my new phone, it's less than 3 months old and I know there must be a way to do it. any help would be appreciated, cheers in advance, Elijah

I just managed to flash stock firmware on a SM-G925F (= model name in upper case) with Kies3.
It puts the phone on stock state (i.e. bootloader, efs partition, recovery, ... etc.)
but you have to be able to boot in Android in order to retrieve serial number in settings => about => state

What happens when you just flash the stock FW, boot into recovery and make a factory reset from there? Cannot mount /EFS error???
AFAIK this IMEI is displayed when the EFS partition has been corrupted...
Some reported issues with param.bin (part of the BL file) in combination with EFS... and solved it by flashing the BL (which contains the param.bin) and the modem.bin
Try to flash a 4 part original FW, boot into recovery and make a factory reset...
Anyway if the EFS has lost data and you have not made a backup, you cannot fix / get back your original IMEI again.....
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/help-restore-lost-imei-serial-sm-g920fd-t3239815
So I have read through a lot of threads on here already about similar issues. But I cant find an exact answer to the problem Im having. I tried to get more space with my sd card so i downloaded foldermount, and I gave it access to external sd and rebooted. When I rebooted it stopped at the metropcs welcome screen and did nothing, I immediately knew it was soft-bricked. I tried taking the battery out restarting and still same problem. So i rebooted into TWRP recovery and instead of just getting my laptop and googling, I tried to factory reset but somehow i erased my rom because it said "No OS installed are you sure you want to reboot". So now it wont even go to the samsung screen or metropcs screen. it turns on but thats about it. I hooked it up to odin and flashed a stock rom but everytime i try, it stops at sboot.bin and then fails. I read that this is a problem with bootloader and imnuts has solved this proble, but he only did it for other phones, SO BASICALLY I NEED A BOOTLOADER FIX FOR STOCK ROM FOR SM-G550T1 (SAMSUNG GALAXY ON5)????
Have you tried to flash another rom? How long did you take your battery out for? In twrp, do you have adb access?

Yes, I have flashe three different roms now. I have the same issue every time. And i took the battery out for a few minutes but i dont think thats the issue its that I'm missing an operating system. And in TWRP i do have adb but i forget what ADB does.
Also, with the help of youtube, I created a nobootbinrom.tar or something like that and flashed with odin to no avail. It was a complete waste of time.
