It's been one year. I love this phone.. best ever and now with recent updates and development, even better. But one year is a long time. A year ago this was the latest and greatest.. now I'd like to see a better screen, faster processor, definitely a MUCH better camera & 4K Video.. at least. Sony is starting to fall behind on camera matters and that makes no sense.. Sony makes some of the best cameras and sensors in the world.. but the iPhone camera overall is better and cleaner, Nokia is totally kicking butt, HTC is making some cool new things and Samsung's new sensor technologies starting with the S5 and future phones is serious stuff. The Z Ultra camera is at best OK from 3 years ago standards and the Z1's was a disappointment while the Z2's is yet to be taken for a good ride but seems just a tweaked firmware version of the same hardware.. I don't hear any rumours of a possible successor for the Z Ultra. I wonder when and what Sony will come out with to better this phone just as they've done with the Z2. The Z2 is definitely not revolutionary, just incremental. But that's enough.. improving a great product is a great way to go.
Maybe the Z Ultra wasn't sold as often as expected as this phone isn't for everyone. Sony maybe considers the Z Ultra as some kind of failed experiment...

nah i dont think it needs a follow up successor phablet *NOT JUST YET., we all know that our 6.4 in screen is quite a lot but as far as XZU is running until now. Its over all performance on both technology and design it is still kicking some butt. as a user from the the 1st Xperia namely the x1., XZU is the far best beast of all xperia in term of its performance and built., for me XZU just need a little push to get along some software upgrade to make the consumer wonder why XZU is worth buying for.,

Performance never enough. I am waiting for an overclocking kernel that can push the CPU to past 2.5GHz.. easily done.. all Snapdragons have plenty of headroom for overclockin.. in fact tthe new 801 CPU is the same with high speed.. same one with a better GPU.. I bet the 800 could go near 3.0GHz.. my wife has a Samsung Galaxy Mega (less than 1/2 the cost of the Ultra Z) that has a Snapdragon 400 or S4 (..whatever people wanna call it) and it's base speed is 1.7GHz running at 2.3GHz stable with a custom kernel under Android 4.2.2.. totally kicks butt.. also a great phone from Samsung that maybe they will not update..

The Galaxy Mega, lol, the pixel density is so low that I could never use it. I set my dpi at 280 on the XZU and it is perfect.

Ran the original Galaxy Tab 7 for 3 years at 1.4GHz from 1GHz.. and still working today. Ran the Galaxy Mega for 6 months and going.. and am yet to know anyone frying a phone because of overlooking.. on the other hand, my iPad 3 burned my hands every day at its native speeds. If I could run the Ultra Z any faster, I would. Speed rules and lag cools

It will be a beast if marketed correctly. Also if they release sources so people can get best ROMs - many will move from Z Ultra. But what I like on my ZU is build quality if Nubia is close to it - I might get it. If it`s some kind of cheap plastic - I ll wait for ZU2

Looks tempting but then again, with such form factor you need to trim the thickness or it will become harder to grab it. Plus it's not even a Sony, meaning there might not be an android update for it. Even Lenovo doesn't do anything about this.

Correct! 100% my view also. Great as this hardware is, it's stagnant from its day one. For me, phones and tabs are 25% hardware and 75% what down the road the manufacturer and specially amazing people like the ones in this community, build upon there. No proper support or development makes the hardware utterly useless, no matter how great it is. My almost 4 years old incredible and iconic original Galaxy Tab 7 runs KitKat at 40% higher than its native 1GHz humble single core processor and very limited RAM. It's been years of joy and fun. Where will a "ZTE Nubia" be 4 years later?.. unthinkable. In fact, I'm down to the point of only buying 6 month old+ hardware after there are already fixes, updates, root, recovery & custom ROMs for it.. till then, phones are bricks. I have a friend that quickly bought a Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 in Hong Kong.. probably the most beautiful and near-perfect Tab hardware ever made.. no proper root yet, no recovery and of course endless software bugs and Samsung bloated software that make the unit nearly unusable.. pointless. Give it a few months however and hopefully the hardware will have software to make it justice..
Chinese do not update or support anything they do. They just rush things out. It's their culture. A "support" or "update" usually means, new hardware. Support and updates don't make money. They cost money. The Chinese are not into that. There are 1.4 billion buyers.. they can dilute their needed support into voices that will never get heard and sell in the meanwhile millions of new machines..
a ZTE?.. let me laugh.

Actually as of now, rooting can be achieved because there is a security hole that a root exploit can, umm, exploit. So it is unsecure. If any malicious apk get installed, your phone can be ruined. So for a big company to neglect that aspect indicates that they really don't care for their phone. But it's good for the community i guess as long as they steps in right direction.

As usual, the phone is ugly, and considering the fact it's here to battle the iPhone 6, that's understandable.
The interesting part is that it has LTE Advanced baked in, but the SoC is Exynos. Could it be finally the 5433?
Share your outrage/admiration here (unless I just did something stupid and broke forum rules and the mods intend to blast the thread into oblivion ).
It's like a "iSamsung".. I really don't like when they get to battle the phone of another brand and they get used to "copy" the design for it's own device. It has more the look of an iPhone than a Samsung.. I'm not sure if I like it..
The metal construction might emulate iPhones, but the thin, flimsy plastic back cover is all Samsung. At least the (dinky) battery is replaceable though.
Obviously this phone is meant to compete with the iPhone 6. I have no idea if it'll actually sway iPhone owners into the Android world. But it's clearly a vanity device, and should succeed in at least some small way with people who like Android but wish their phone could look more like an iPhone. Somehow I doubt the Alpha will get much love in the way of development and modding. High price, moderate specs, small battery..."power" users such as us won't bother much with this phone.
I think this phone is designed as a midranged one and for people who like the compact iPhone style. Sadly the form factor would be perfect for one handed use but the screen is really underwhelming and not allowing mdcards is a huge mistake. I like the octacore cup bit Samsung is really starting to behave like Apple and that's not a good thing. Removing features and then releasing overpriced underwhelming products
The alpha with full HD, mdcards support and without Knox would have been awesome, disappointed. Instead of targeting iPhone users they should have targeted the Android crowd looking for high powered compact phones!
If benchmarks are to be believed, the thing smashed the Note 3... the octa-core version Note 3. If the Alpha has the Exynos 5433 and they finally went "true" octa-core, it might be worth a look.
But, having a big ol' ugly Nope 3, I'm more hyped for the ugly Note 4, which is bound to be a monster we might like.
I wonder if it's gonna have any IP certification. Probably not though as I didn't see any gaskets.

I was really tempted for this device unless i found out the battery was jz 1800mah..
Only if had 2500 or 3000mah i would have readily exchanged my nexus 5 which also has a pathetic battery life
The thing looks like an updated S2, actually. I have one at work which is with a Chinese copy battery and CM11 on it. 2 days on standby so far, battery is at 80%-ish.
The Nexus carries a 5 inch full HD screen and has no battery saving modes at all.
I won't be surprised if the Alpha thing manages to last longer.

I shouldn't be too bad... should good battery life... considering it's like 25% more efficient than a 801-805 snapdragon chip (20nm) Should be interesting to see it's performance though. the chips built for 1440p so with that being said the chip is made to be energy efficient at 1440p. 720p is going to have good battery life considering the chip is pushing exactly 4x times less pixels than it was made to.
Doesn't look as good as the S5? No SD card slot, no USB 3, still only 2Gb of Ram? No real reason to upgrade IMO
the things why i didnt buy samsung is... because its sparepart is quite expensive
and (the center shop) quite far from my house

It's frustrating because as I keep complaining if it was 3 mm thicker it could have the Isocell Camera from Note 4, a 2500 Mah Battery,
and an SD Card, and a more powerful speaker or TWO - in this pocket sized phone !
So I am hoping and lobbying Samsung for Alpha Pro with above features
and some Note 4 Specs - but NOT more Pixels in Screen because that will slow the phone down.
Alpha Pro would be priced like Note 4 people will cry about price - but I would pay $700-750. for Pro version.
Would you ?
Hello,
the firmwares of the Alpha are out.
Now I wanted to take a look into the firmware, but somehow I can't unpack it. Tried the method with sgs2toext4 and ext4_unpacker but always failed. The system.img seems to be ok, it's 1.908.047 KB big.
Someone knows a way to unpack this KitKat Firmware of the Alpha?

I love wireless charging... Especially in the car it is just so convenient. Count me in as dissapointed...
It appears Huawei has *NO* phones with wireless charging, so it is likely the N6p really won't have it. That's a major deal breaker for me. That's the most important feature in years. I have 5 wireless charging bases, including three in my house plus work and car. If I wanted a phone circa 2012 I'd buy an iPhone. Now, to research other phablets...

Probably because all of their phones have metal casing, can't charge wirelessly through metal.
Is the camera area actually raised, or does it just look that way? It seems like it would make making cases for it difficult. Also, I'm interested to see what the overall dimensions of the phone are. The top and bottom bezels look very large to me. If it's the same size as the current Nexus 6, that's a lot of wasted space. I really couldn't care less about the finger print sensor, or lack of wireless charging.

V2 was the first mass production revision, which was present in both the LG G Flex 2, and HTC One M9
...
Meanwhile there were rumors floating around of a new revision due to show up in the summer, and it appears that this is the rumored revision. This leads me to question whether it made sense to release devices with the v2 revision, especially if future revisions would have resolved some notable issues and dramatically improved SoC performance. I also question whether OEMs would silently introduce these SoCs into later production runs of products that first shipped with v2, which is yet another can of worms.
Putting these questions aside, this new revision brings much-needed improvements to the Snapdragon 810, and should go a long way as a stop-gap until Snapdragon 820 begins shipping. We'll see how the change from v2 to v2.1 affects performance on a higher level in our Xiaomi Mi Note Pro review coming shortly.

so HTC said they are using the v2.1, just like how qualcomm said there's no heat issue with the 810, how credible do you think those words are? by your logic, do you have to know someone with a Z4/Z3+ to know that it overheats?

Nobody claimed that it doesn't overheat!
OnePlus made a big fuss about v2.1 but they underclocked it to remedy the heat issue. Plus it's a thick phone with a plastic back so you don't feel it as much as you would with a metal phone which conducts heat or a thin phone like the Sony!
I want to buy a phone, but don't know which one. Can you guys help me with this.

Ultimately it's up to you. Everyone uses their phones differently and there are differing wants and needs for each person. No amount of convincing will help you. Just look at the pros and cons of both devices and make your best judgment.
the 6p is a much better phone if you enjoy pure android
that said, if you prefer an SD card and top shelf hardware, and don't mind the LG UI overlay, it's a very nice option as well
The big problem, imo, is there is no place currently in a store where you can compare Nexus 6P and LG V10. Please correct me if I am wrong.
Both devices are pretty awesome. Both cameras are pretty awesome. Both have fingerprint security. Both have pretty awesome screens, but it's really up to you whether you like Samsung AMOLED screens or LGs LCD.
Nexus has Octa-core Snapdragon 810 version 2 with Adreno 430.
LG has hexacore Snapdragon 808 with Adreno 418 ( which is half speed of Adreno 420 found in Snapdragon 805. Reason for this is Unknown to me)
LG has base 64GB memory, Nexus is 32GB, 64GB, or 128GB. You pay a premium for the increase.
LG has microsd slot and if you get it before November 15 you get a free 200GB microsd card if you live in one of the participating countries.
Nexus has no expandable storage.
And if course, Nexus will get Google system OS updates d soon as they are released.
LG has to go through carrier approval _ if you bought it on Carrier _ before OS updates are released.
Great comparison above.
I have both and actually really enjoy the V10. The 6P is kind of like "eh" to me. I love the fingerprint sensor on the 6P over the V10
V10: microSD slot, removable battery, awesome camera (and app for taking pics). The 2nd screen is weird, but can be useful sometimes. 32-bit DAC if you are big into audio. You can double tap to wake and sleep the display. You can do split screen apps or make some apps small windows (including the entire display to make everything reachable).
6P: pure Android so faster updates, front facing speakers, very nice fingerprint sensor (I get many "retry" on the V10 as it's not as perfectly located as the 6P is for me). USB Type-C (new but nice to not worry about which way it needs to face to plug in). Marshmellow is nice.
This guy has a comparison (but language isn't work safe if you play it at work) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-NvGWQjJRY
If you listen to a lot of your own music and have nice headphones then V10 is a no brainer. It has an ESS Dac/Amp that sounds amazing and can power some very hungry headphones. The consumer reviews of the headphone audio on the 6p in some other forums is absolutely abysmal. Not only does it have very low volume output but the sound is sub-par.

Lucky dog!
From a quality/durability standpoint? LG V10
There are a lot of great points here. The pros for the V10 are obvious as stated. Removable microSD card, battery, 64GB Internal, 4GB RAM, 2nd Display etc....
However, a point to consider as well is the build quality. IMO I would much prefer a device made in S.Korea over china any day. Again, if those of you that don't know what IMO means = In My Opinion. For me I find it important to buy something you don't have to worry about possibly/easily breaking. That would be a waste and not practical.
This is why I wouldn't buy a cheap chinese made phone. It's not all about the looks....there's no innovation or decent engineering at all. Just pure copies with an enticing exterior and hardware slapped together to make it look appealing. Keep in mind that they can get away with cheap knock off type of products over there because they have their market along with India's who will buy it. Now that they are trying to dance in the US market, guess what? There's something called rules, ethics, integrity, patents, copyright laws etc... So what huawei along with other cheap chinese knock off companies did was to basically make their devices, "just good enough," to meet the regulations in order to enter the US market. It's no secret and it's just how it is with their style of business.
From a structural and quality stand point in addition to all the great points being made....
I'll leave it at that....
Buy the LG V10.

How would u compare battery life between the 2? All the reviewers are saying the battery life is horrible on the V10, the promo has me pulling for the V10 tho.

Keep us posted! I was considering the 6p also but the removable battery won me over.
I'm still eyeballing that keyboard on the BlackBerry priv though...been missing my keyboard since I went to note 2 from HTC g2.
Sent from my pretty nifty brand new LG V10
Early simplistic rankings of the 3 (MXPE, 6P, V10)
Display:V10,MXPE,6P
Camera (Pictures, no videos yet): V10, 6P (barely ahead of MXPE), MXPE
Sound (External): MXPE,6P,V10
Sound (Internal): MXPE, V10, 6P (most surprising)
Feel in hand:6P,MXPE, V10
Fingerprint:6P, V10.....
Notifications:MXPE,6P,V10
Battery:6P,V10,MXPE
Charging:Tie with V10/MXPE..the Moto charger works with V10 very well, 6P
Visual appeal: MXPE (Ash Charcoal Wood back is sexy), V10, 6P
Speed Opening Apps: 6P, V10, MXPE
Lag (Lack of): 6P/V10 tie, MXPE
Told my wife I will probably keep all 3 (Moto is out of return window but other 2 are returnable)
BUT if i had to keep one.....V10, with MXPE a close 2nd and 6P a veryvery close 3rd. In other words, you can't go wrong with either of them.
BTW, if MXPE could shoot raw or had camera2api and a fingerprint scanner, it would be my choice easily. Thats all its missing really from being the perfect phone for me (I know some will say wireless charge and maybe longer battery but turbo charging is beautiful)

Hmmmm and tell me how is the 6p you bought in 10 days to return?
I really like the clean OS just like the 6P. But I hear allot from others that the 6p doesn't have any macro closeup option.. Soo my question how is the Closeup photos? How is the focus on closeup?

Are you asking me? 10 days before my return window of the V10 is up. So 10 days of being able to use them side by side
Depends on what is most important to you. SD card & removable battery are top priority for me. I usually keep my phones 2 years and you will need a new battery in that time I used to be all about Vanilla Android, but on my Note just rooted, Uninstalled bloatware & installed the root apps I required. I ran Rooted Stock. On T Mobile, I think the bootloader is unlocked and you can root. As long as the phone is rootable, you can always get updates.
I wanted a 6P, my decision was made for me by the lack of availability any time soon if a 6P, removable battery, and finally an SD card.

Battery life is actually quite good on the v10 stock. I'm getting over 5hrs of sot from stock. One of the best on stock I've used

Just wanted to share this very direct comparison I found on YouTube, directly comparing the Snapdragon 855 to the Exynos 9820 both running on S10 software. Really not looking great for Exynos in relative comparison to the Snapdragon at least for the S10. Let me know what you guys think about this comparison.

1. Will that translate to real world? We all know the grain of salt to take with benchmarks.
2. That's as good as it gets for SD, exynos will have custom kernels that could improve performance.
Not to mention the exynos could have an edge on battery. I'm not worried a bit.

I am also curious to know how this translates. The guy who created this benchmarks specifically states its supposed to translate to real world performance pretty well, but that's taking his word for it. We will see.

1. That depends on the user. Nobody really cares about a phone talking an extra second or two to open an app but if it's work related then your time wasted is money lost.
2. There are Snapdragon variants with unlocked bootloader's as well.
3. It doesn't. There are videos on YouTube you can search for.

Do you happen to know which regions/models specifically will have an unlocked bootloader? How much development do you think we will see for those few models?
Really want an exynos chispset for the unlock, but none of them support band 71 as far as I know. Currently faced with a huge dilemma

I'm sorry, I was under the impression that the Latin American and Hong Kong Snapdragon variants were unlocked from the start (previous models) but turns out they need to be unlocked manually, I assume though some type of vulnerability.
People are talking about cancelling preorders... Kneejerk reaction, or justified? Hard to say, but I do know Samsung set loose the very first update of many. Perhaps it'll shrink the performance delta.

Thinking serious kneejerk borderlining on freakout, but I'll know tomorrow night. Coming from a Pixel 3 so I have a good standard to judge performance from.

What we've been shown won't necessarily translate to "real" usage. The iPhone XS blows just about everything out of the water. Despite that, certain Android phones match it in silly speed tests.
The average consumer uses social media, YouTube, navigation, browser, and streams music/movies. Considering how well these run on budget phones I'm certain the 9820 will meet - if not exceed the expectations of buyers. Now... the area everyone wants to know about is efficiency. Will the SD or Exy take the crown this year?
Samsung has proven it knows what it's doing with exynos in years past. If there does happen to be an issue, I'm certain they can issue a fix for their in-house built processor.
Isn't this just the same old fundamental issue Anandtech much talked about with the Exynos S9 last year? At least its not looking as bad as last year's SOC.
Exynos fares better here (compared to other reviews).

I can't post it because I'm new but Look at this one "Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus vs iPhone XS Max - Speed Test!" by XEETECHCARE, how can such "slow" chip defeat the XS Max most of the time? If Exynos is so crappy why does it still beat it?
Still no videos about the SD version against the iPhone, in theory it should beat it even harder, but I started to think that the power settings they use on the Exynos are more conservative, at least I hope that's the case.

That is very impressive. Usually iphones are extremely hard to beat. It's good to see that Samsung is finally learning to remove bloatware and create much lighter software.
Here it is for anyone else;

I think mostly the speed might come from UFS3.0. Soon someone will put snap vs exynos version next to each other, test it out and see which one is better so we will get a full picture. I don't play on my phone so day to day tasks and smoothness are the most important for me... Oh and battery life

The S10 phones have UFS 2.1, the first phone with UFS 3.0 will be the Galaxy Fold
That xs max vs s10 video, scrolling was pretty choppy on the right phone.
The exynos model is alot better for battery life than the s9. As mentioned above the exynos model will usually run smoother and have better battery life.
Just got my S10e G970F setup and updated to the new patch with Feb security. This thing flies. Repeat.. no performance issues in casual use and I'm not sure under what conditions there would be issues. I'm sure Pubg runs just fine. Feels a noticable step faster than my Pixel 3, which is exactly what I was expecting. Full day battery test tomorrow..
Benchmarks are nothing.
(And really liking this phone so far)
