I'm stuck in this Tornado shelter living here for a few months and I'm trying to get internet going (the provider here is crap) If i place my Xperia Z3 by the window I get usable service so I got the idea, buy a T-mobile phone on the cheap and add a line to my plan and set the phone up as a permanent hotspot. So i bought a Nexus 4 and the signal is crap like barely usable my Xperia gets very decent reception sitting in the same spot. I figure its because my Xperia can connect to more LTE Bands. So I'm going to change the Nexus over to a different phone but I wanted some opinions: whats the best phone reception wise on TMobile? opinions, facts, specs. throw them at me! preferably a phone that supports a AOSP rom and root and such! Thank you

Just recently discovered this phone and love it!
However, i'm on T-Mobile. I'm not one of those people that have to have fast speeds on a phone and I'm usually around wi-fi.
Would this phone be worth getting and then using it on T-Mobile?
Hello! Maybe this one helps you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_IrKOXeZ7w
i have been using mine on t-mobile for a couple months now and it does suck not having 3g all the time. cant download certain things or some apps simply wont work running on edge when your out and about. works excellently on wifi. i would say if you get it for a good price do it. the screen size is awesome and its a fast phone. but i wouldnt drop $600 on it for it to run on edge. i won mine at a windows phone event night and unlocked it for $30

I totally agree with the statement from shamoozoo. I did the same thing about two months ago. I bought an AT&T phone and paid the price ($16.00 US) to get the unlock code to make it work on T-Mobile. Everthing works well except the data. Only getting Edge as the maximum data speed. Someone wrote in another thread about a pending T-Mob/AT&T data roaming agreement that will give us faster speeds and that it'll happen around the summer of this year so crossing my fingers on that one. Also, waiting for the unbranding ROM which will get rid of the AT&T "stuff" on my Titan and give me the internet sharing (tethering) for free.
t.mobile were not doing the deal I wanted so went with vodaphone. When using WiFi everything is instant. Don't know if it is the same with other networks. Even playing games online is instant. I love this phone.
HTC Titan x310a (AT&T) on T-Mobile...
Hey there. I too am a T-Mobile subscriber, using the AT&T branded version of the HTC Titan, and here's my 2¢; When I saw the announcement for this phone, I was blown away, and just HAD to have it. I had a buddy who's with AT&T, and was eligible for a phone upgrade, but didn't want to use it, because he liked his current phone, so he allowed me to use it, so I got my Titan for $200. The biggest drawback, which others have mentioned here, is that, due to the AT&T radio firmware, which is incompatible with T-Mobile's 3G & 4G network, I'm stuck at 2G (EDGE). Also, I cannot use T-Mobile's Visual Voicemail. Other than these 2 issues, the Titan is phenomenal! Now, here's the good news; XDA-Developer members Cotulla, and the Dark Forces Team are currently working on a HardSPL & custom ROM for these incredible phones! Once they are finished, and make these tools available to the community, we will be able to flash custom Windows Phone ROMs, and different radio firmware, which will allow our Titans to use T-Mobiles
3G & 4G network bands! So my opinion is thus; the HTC Titan is an EXCELLENT phone to use on any GSM network. Good luck!
Hello,
I am in the same situation, I got the ATT Titan activated on T mobile and I get only Edge signal. Let us know when the Rom is done, I will for. I got My Titan free so nothing to lose but will like to have working on 4G.
Thank you.
I don't think alternate ROMs will get you 3G on T-Mobile. Until proven, that's just wishful thinking.
Radio Firmware doesn't change the actual Bands the phone uses its simply a hardware limitation. When and if T-Mobile does data roaming with AT&Ts 3G then yea you will have 3G/HSPA+ until then your stuck with EDGE until they light it up in your area.
And even if software controlled the radio bands we would first need compatible tmobile firmware for the Titan that would work with WP7 very restrictive OS.
The only way an AT&T-branded Titan will ever get 3G on T-Mobile USA is if and when T-Mo refarms their spectrum to use 1900MHz band for UMTS.
(Thumbs Up for the Shakespeare Reference in the title?)
Hi all,
Not sure whether this should go in the Windows Phone forums or Android (You'll see why in a moment).
I am considering buying a Nexus 7 as I (think I) am in need of a smaller tablet to take around with me when I start Sixth Form in September. I have decided that if I ever get ANY Android device in future, it has to be Nexus owing to the fact that my first and only Android device left me with a very bitter view of Android, but after using my friends Nexus 10, I was in love with Android once again, and so the Nexus 7 suits me perfectly. I was wondering on your opinion of whether I should buy the 3G version now and hope that I will need the 3G capabilities, or give my brother £50 for his Nexus 7 seeing as he's just bought an iPad Mini and use it, and see how many times I actually need 3G in day to day use, and then if I need 3G, buy a 3G version of the new Nexus 7 that Google should've announced by September, and if I don't need 3G, just buy the WiFi only version. What do you guys think?
Also, I currently have a Lumia 800 (WP 7.8) and have seen that my friend uses TabletTalk to get the texts from his Galaxy S to his Nexus 10 and can answer them. I was wondering if such a thing existed that provided this functionality, except being able to get the texts from my Windows Phone device on the tablet.
Many Thanks

I think it depends on where do you live. because it affects how do you use your phone. if you live in a small town with lack of signal I suggest that you choose WiFi only...

I live in the booming capital of Luhndun (London)
then I think u could go with 3G, because Phones battery live durability hardly depends on how good the signal they could get. If u live in town with lack of signal and using 3G, your phone will drain more energy just because it need 3G connection while sometimes u couldn't get it because of lack signal, which means the phone will not last long...
You know if you have an Android phone you can tether your 3G to your Nexus 7, that is how i do it when i'm on the go.
My better half caught me looking at the Xperia z ultra. She surprised me with a c6833 model. It should be here the end of the week.
We are over-the-road truck drivers running the lower 48 states. Our phones are on Verizon. I do a lot of calling to book loads and Internet searches. I do some streaming of music and video.
Can I move my Verizon sim card to the new phone? I know I will not get LTE service from Verizon. What I can't find is the simplest questions . Will the phone even make calls, text or MMS? Can I get other Internet service that is non-LTE? Can I connect to my wife's hotspot to get LTE Internet? I may have to get a T-Mobile account, but if there are work arounds I would rather not.
I know around here these are basic questions but if you are going to learn to count to 10, you have to learn how to count to 3 first.

Yes , u can get internet service with non-LTE. You will be gettin Wifi-Connection when you connect to Wife's Hotspot. Data Transfer would be faster cause as you said your Wife has LTE.

C6833 - LTE for T-Mobile
C6806 - LTE for T-Mobile and AT&T
C6802 - 3G for all networks
So even thought you have the single band LTE device, you will still get 3G coverage and data/ downloads. You will also be able to connect to your wife's hotspot and get LTE that way. But wont be as fast as LTE through a provider as its piggybacking.
I would suggest getting a T-Mobile account. (if they have coverage for where you will be)

The problem with the "where you are" plan is we drive 1000+ miles per day. We have no idea where that would be. So as long as I can make the call part work and there is a work around for the interest, I'm happy. The super big screen when viewing load details will far out weigh some of the small draw backs like no LTE or having to connect to a hotspot. We drive for me hours in some states where we don't even have basic phone service.

yeah I know what you mean. I travel a lot of part of my job, and often I have zero reception too. You'll be happy with your version of the Ultra. wifi hotspots will be the best choice and other than that 3G will suffice.. :good: or nothing...

While I'm not a cheap SOB, okay I am, if it gets to bad I'll pay up for an account at T-Mobile, but why if I don't really have to?
Thanks everyone. While I can find info down to the glue it's stuck together with I couldn't find the basics of can I call home on it. I'll bet I can find somewhere if ET can phone home with it.
Hi guys,
I've been doing research but wanted to pose this question to everyone in this forum as well.
Thinking about making the switch over to T-Mobile from Sprint to test their network and see how I like it.
Unfortunately I'd have to get an HTC One capable of receiving the LTE signal so I'd have to swap phones (at least that's what I've seen online). Kind of a pain in the ass but whatever.
I just wanted anyone's opinion who has used T-Mobile in NYC/Queens and can tell me about their recent experience. I'm most concerned with building penetration which I've found to be pretty solid with Sprint (granted the data speeds suck).
Any input would really help. Love this phone but I might have to test a new network.
Thanks
Ok so I made the switch six months ago from Verizon and I live in Queens, NY. I live in the first floor of an apt building and in the middle room I barely had 3G with Verizon, on my one I get at least 2 bars of lte. I have had no problems getting signal in Queens, I have even gone as far as Central Islip, LI and get lte, although in some areas I do drop to HSPA plus but get good signal. I have had no dropped calls or signal thus far. Really loving Tmobile and this phone. The only place that I can think off not getting signal would be in a basement maybe and ofcourse the subway.

I've been on T-Mo for 3 years. Previously VzW and AT&T.
VzW is better in many places.
But I have no complaints about T-Mo coverage in NYC and LI.
Where there isn't any, I use the WiFi calling/data with no issues.
I can't imagine T-Mo wouldn't be better than Sprint.
I got mine today and i'm loving it.
As an electrical electronic engineering student i think i'll be finding a lot of projects i can use this for.
Must be noted, I had mine imported from New York in USA (PB2-690Y), so my data reception is spotty at times, but 3g on both 3-Hutchinson and EE work fine the majority of the time, texts and calls are fine and ALWAYS work and im okay living with the 3g data speeds of around 15-20 mbps.
Just some things to note if anyone else in the UK imported.
I payed (in total for HMRC, shipping and handling fees) a total of £550. A little more than going straight from lenovo GB (whenever its back in stock)
Some Networks wont work on the device due to lack of antenna in the device
Quick Charge still works fine with UK chargers
GPS is rock solid with wi-fi (for my Uni Campus), yet dependant on data connection when out and about (as with all phones i believe)
All of my reports on the reception are relating to my area, which is chester. a place where i have only ever rarely received a 4g connection, even in my old lg g3, and my friends struggle on iPhones to get 4g. When i move back over christmas and new years to near birmingham, where my home is, it's somewhere i know i can get a solid 4g signal, and have had so on all networks on all phones i've ever had, then i'll check in again and update. Although, by that time, people who want one in the UK will already have got theirs directly with the EMEA hardware.
Can't recommend enough getting the correct version from lenovo, but being a student wanting the hardware for its project ability more than its daily driver potential, i'm satisfied to live with lackluster data speeds.
According to the UK shop, there's not many left. And the French shop sold out.
They're back in stock in the UK, same rip-off pricing.
Now I found out you can easily unlock the bootloader, this is now my preferred phablet.
