[Q] X2 Screen Resolution - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

Hi guys
Does anybody know how to alter the screen resolution on the X2 - preferably without needing to root it?
Everything is a little too big...it appears Huawei have not optimised the UI for a tablet which is what the X2 essentially is.
I have less information on its 7 inch screen than I do on my Nubia X6 which is 6.44 inch.
Thanks

2 things will probably help you:
1) Settings -> Display -> Font size
2) Settings -> Application Display Effect -> Reducing Mode
The second one will also allow you to set the mode on a per application basis, which is neat. I would have liked to have a few more options, but this seems to work quite well.

Thank-you. I will try it when I return home.
Will the second way option allow me set the dpi?

This works without root.

I'm not sure what the actual implementation uses, but the effect is similar. You don't get a whole lot of options, but it makes a big difference.

That is a definite improvement. Thanks.

Have you tried this yourself?

LCD Density

Now that we've got root (yay!)
The LCD density seems rather low- I'm coming from a Dell Streak 5, and it seems the icons and fonts are quite a bit larger.
I can't fit as much on the Note's home screen as I could on my Streak's homescreen, despite being both larger and higher resolution.
Which density settings are "safe" to try with minimum risk of causing market issues?
Interesting, most people lower the density. I have no idea what it is on the note now but 240 and 320 are safe

Yeah, I know, it's odd.
My old Streak 5 would comfortably fit all the widgets I use and icons. The Note, however, despite having the same number of rows and columns defined, has overlap. Also, the BW clock skin I use has to be sized physically larger than it is on the Streak, otherwise it gets cut off. Fonts seem much larger, too.
Granted, it makes it easy to read, but I honestly expected MORE screen real estate- not less.
Note uses 320. I set mine to 240 and everything seems ok. The keyboard does still seem a bit large, but ok. Also the default browser is broken a bit as well as the phone app. Keypad is off and browser tab page is messed up along with address bar.

I've got mine at 280 now. Same dialer issue. Using Swype for input, so no issues there. I use Opera so the browser isn't an issue.
Haven't hit any market issues yet, but haven't tried downloading anything either.

320. Which I believe the largest common value supported by android.
thanks! I tried 240 and messed up the home screen.
Streak used a 160 setting, but it was only 800x480.

I'm going to just leave it at 320. I'd rather take the time to get used to it and have everything function properly.

Good idea.
Im sure all the apps that break with the different density can be fixed using spare parts or installing modified ones. [There are many modified ones in the int Note forum]

Screen Resolution

So I have flashed to the latest International version of ICS and of course now have the option of either standard or high resolution. I use Pocket Informant and noticed that in standard resolution it comes up like a phone but in high resolution it comes up like it should for a tablet. When I was running the stock T Mobile build it always came up in tablet mode. Just what are the differences between the two other than the obvious. Also is anybody using Nova launcher? I used it on my phone while playing with ICS with no problems but with the tablet it won't let me place any widgets. It just tells me that their isn't enough room on the screen.
Kirby
Can't say much in the way of "other then the obvious" but yes, I saw that with several apps and launchers. In standard it reacts more like a phone. Some apps I couldn't even install because the resolution wasn't supported. When I switch to high everything worked as expected, as on a tablet. Those apps I couldn't install before then installed just fine.
After switching I noticed a definitely change in speed, but either I've gotten used to it or it corrected itself after a bit.
So I take it that you are runniing in high res mode all of the time?

Yeah. Like it much better. Icons and thinks look a little blurry in standard. I just took two screen shots between the two, same launcher and background setup. Standard indeed just looks like a smaller screen scaled up... and blurred.
I like high but with apps that are not tablet specific you can run into the issue of teeny tiny text being difficult to read.
How do I turn on hi res mode?

There should be a zoom mode icon near the clock on the status bar that allows you to zoom the the app to full screen.
Also have you checked under Settings --> Display --> Font Sise and set it to Large or Huge?

MIUI 7 Change DPI and the side effects?

Hi all,
I have found a way to change the dpi without root, just using adb and cmd and it worked like a charm...well, almost. There are a couple of UI glitches that appear when you reduce (or increase for that matter) the dpi.
Firstly, the icons on the home screen mess up, but that's not SUCH an issue as you can install another launcher or in my case, find an icon pack that doesn't show the mess up quite as much (my preferable choice because you see the icons set in different areas of the UI, such as the notifications shade and recents menu, settings, etc.)
Secondly, and the most annoying, is the crop function messes up in the weirdest way. Whether it be when changing wallpaper or trying to crop a picture in CamScanner, the image you choose appears zoomed in and there is no way to zoom out or even move the image around, only zoom in further.
Now, my question is, has anyone managed to find a suitable dpi that MIUI does not have a problem with, or are there some standard dpi's MIUI uses apart from 480? Or has anyone found a way around any of these issues (or any other issues they may have encountered when changing the dpi)? Last but not least, is there a custom version of MIUI out there, or a rom that has it's visuals (and camera app) but custom tailored to suit various dpi's and other modifications?
I really cannot live with the stock dpi of 480, it's like using a phone made for old people, waaaay too large EVERYTHING on a large screen, I want to see more on a large screen. But I also am not yet prepared to go off MIUI as I really like their UI, visually, and I know any other rom will lose a lot of camera quality amoungst some other things like battery life, etc.
Thanks guys in advance for any advice.

If the original one is 386 I think 400 is kinda useless... Or did you mean 300?
Original is 403dpi if I'm not mistaken. I set mine to 375 and it's absolutely perfect..
Default density is 480.
Code:
[email protected]:/ $ wm density
Physical density: 480

No, the original is 480, which is too large...where did you get the number 386 from? perhaps it is another one of their phone's stock DPI, which means MIUI might not warp on this DPI value? Will check it out, but any information you have, please let me know

OK will try at home then.
Just to be sure - phone has to be in FASTBOOT mode to accept ADB commands from PC right?
used some of the suggested DPI's but...
so, thanks guys, used some of the suggested DPI values, 386 and 375, and mostly everything works fine....except still some small issues with the icons and the cropping. try and set a wallpaper for a whatsapp group for example, photo shows as zoomed in and cannot zoom out to choose a crop of the WHOLE image like I used to....have attached some screenshots of what happens to my icons....is this possibly because I am not rooted that the DPI value is not getting set in to the system correctly? Is anyone who is rooted facing the same issues or not?
might convince me to root, this is the first device i have managed to be happy without rooting lol

No, no need....as long as you have ADB drivers installed and you are launching the CMD from within the ADB folder, it will work. Oh and of course USB debugging enabled and the first time it tried to access the phone for ADB details, you will need to allow it to by hitting remember and ok on the phone

Roger Rabbit...I think at the time of the screenshots I was using a different theme for the status bar, but can't remember as I am now using Eureka 8 Pro. Roger Rabbit is the base theme though, quite like the grey simplicity.

The original isn't near 386. I went down to 380 and everything it far smaller than a 6 dpi difference. I'd say stock is closer to 430 - 450
Yes man, you was right the original DPI is 440, the app textdroiderDPI was showing me an incorrect value of 386 (maybe a little bug...).
Setting it on 440 with LeDpiChanger gave me a full stock MIUI size
Stock is 480DPI, changers give bad result...just root and change build.prop ro.sf.lcd_density=

Yes and its actually crucial that its there, since default Text Size and View Mode settings no matter how you combine them wont give ideal looking combo - either too large or too small + notification area only reacts to Text Size changes and view mode mode has zero effect on this area, so although view mode @SmaLL/font @normal makes everything look good, notification area + notifications look way too big,but when you make font @SmaLL everything gets way too small.
With dpi in play I have reached my current favorite combo -> Text size/view type at Small and dpi @392. Not too big, not too small.

Also not in my Mate 10 which is absolutely disastrous in my case which I want to use all apps to be compatible with split screen but I can’t as the option inside developer settings, “force all apps to resizable” needs resart to be activated but if I restart the phone , the developer options are not saved. Go figure
This also annoys me. Coming from iPhone 7+ which is only 1080p, the Mate 10 looks low res.
We might need some app to make the dpi change persistent on reboot.
Hmm. Smallest width in developer options only changes the width dp of the phone. Anyone tried using adb to change DPI settings? Will try it in a while. Im using KangVIP rom which had the option to change DPI and sure enough, it scaled the contents of the notification bar. Will try it on stock to see if magic happens. Wish me luck!
The setting stick with a reboot on my phone, you need to leave developer mode switch on otherwise it won't stick, I know you can change the smallest width without them turned on but it doesn't stick.
Still doesn't change the notification drop down still huge any fix this wasn't the case on the mate 9 the system ui tuner changed all aspects so annoying

Google Chrome Full Screen Status Bar Issue

Hey everyone,
I am new to this XDA forums so I might not know how to fully customise my thread.
I am having a problem with the Google Chrome browser lately on my device. Whenever I enter full screen mode to watch a video on a website like Youtube, my status bar is still showing. If I uninstall updates and use older version of chrome, then the full screen works fine. I don't know to fix this issue. I am currently using a Redmi Note 3 Pro (Snapdragon) running on Nitrogen OS 8.1 build date: 20180215 with unofficial open gapps 8.1 aroma 20180119. The screenshots below show what I mean.
Please Help!!

I had recently changed ROM to AOSiP. In the notifications drawer there is an 'expanded desktop' toggle which I pressed to go in full screen. It is a bit annoying to have to do it manually but that is what I am doing.

Are you still doing that as a workaround to this issue? Or have you found a permanent solution? I have the same problem.
Latest Chrome and Chrome Beta, Oreo RR, Status Bar visible in Fullscreen. Not an issue in Firefox or Samsung Browser.
Is this intended behavior?

Axon doesn't have those display options? Does it have the unlockable Developer Options? (Tap Build 7 times or whatever)
If yes, look for the 'Smallest Width' option. Play around with some numbers. On my 1080p device it was the 'Small' setting in Display Size that broke Chrome, but it was the one i always used. Closest Smallest Width setting to that where Chrome Fullscreen still works is 403.

Ever since my last comment I got an update and now I have that setting. The notification goes away on "default" indeed, but I have to agree with it being way too big - which is why I have it on smallest on 2560x1440. I might try the smallest width option but I shouldn't have to do that... to me it seems like something is off with either android, chrome or both.

It's Chrome. I tested Firefox and Samsung Browser and they were fine. You've just got to find a number that works.
Can confirm that changing the Smallest width under Developer settings to 403 worked for me (Redmi Note 3 Pro, Android 9.0, Havoc OS). I'm glad I've finally found a solution here, I've been having this issue for so long now I can't even remember when this started happening (probably around the time OP posted here).
Thought I'd update you guys... the biggest number that worked for me was 420 (from the 423 before which is the standard setting). So not too much of a loss.
Minimum width
Once I have changed that setting to 403 width, full screen returned to normal full mode. Thanks for the help (note 9)
