Want to sell HTC Inspire for Atrix

Hello all,
Had a question I couldn't find the answer to. What if my girlfriend sold her Inspire to buy an Atrix?
Let's say she sells it and doesn't have enough money to buy the Atrix right away off contract and has to use a Motorola RAZR for a while. A few questions need answering:
1) Can we call AT&T and have them change our plan to non-smartphone?
2) Are they going to ask for the new phone's IMEI and allow the Inspire to be
activated under the buyer's account without any issue or do I have to let them know it's going to be sold to someone else?
3) Is it possible to get scammed buying a 2nd-hand phone that's been marked as lost or stolen and not being able to activate it?
4) If she got an unlocked, non-branded Atrix or any other smartphone will she be able to use the internet on the non-smartphone data plan without AT&T crying foul?
Thanks for your comments and help.

1) dont rellay have to ..at&t will scan the imei and see you are using a non-smartphone plan and give you ( i believe ) medianet plan..
2) yes, at&t will allow that inspire to be used by another account ( new owner)..doesnt matter.
3) ?
4)again, as soon as that new smartphone is being used under your account..its only a matter of time before at&t scans your imei and sees you're using a "smartphone" ..and youll be upgraded to a smartphone plan.
Thanks for the help with the other questions, but to help explain the third question:
#3 tends to be an issue on Sprint/Verizon, where the ESN can be good or bad. Say the phone is marked as stolen, or you cancelled your account and didn't pay the ETF, you can't take that phone off your account and activate it again. It's blocked. I actually am trying to sell an Epic and Evo and had to find out for sure if everything was in the clear before trying to eBay them.
TL: DR Phone with bad ESN means you end up with an expensive PMP.

now i understand. yes you are correct..thats what stinks with sprint/verizon...someone may correct me if im wrong but..once those phones are marked as stolen/not paid...the ESN is bad. only then..to get that cell working again is to have it flashed to a 3rd party cell provider. here in san antonio, TX..we have a 3rd party cell provider..Cricket.

Yeah the HTC Amaze has a bunch of bands and it should definitely work on AT&T.
Not sure why you want AT&T though since we all love the 30 dollar 100 min 5gb data unlimited text plan from T-mobile prepaid web exclusive plan.
What's good about AT&T, just curious.

Hi,
Look at Google or I think also here in the forum someone mentioned long time ago a site, which can provide you based on EMEI or Product number of device(I can remember which one ) the date of manufacture, but this won't help you to know if it's refurbished or new one.

Just call the store of the provider you plan to use the phone with. tell them you would like for them to run the IEMI number on a phone to make sure it is not on the blacklist. They should also be able to tell you if it has had a previous owner which would mean it is refurbished. When they run the IEMI it should show up if it has ever been activated to another account. If they know they are going to get your business then they should not mind running the number on the phone for you. But you will have to have the number meaning you will need the phone or have the seller give you the number and hope it is the number for the phone you plan to buy. That is the only way. Unless like the other guy said just Google for IEMI look up or verification.
dont worry about store... always you can ask Microsoft for new live activation code...

He wants to know if the phone is new or used as in refurbished. A new live account will not allow him to find this out nor is it even an issue for him right now. Yolu might want to read his opening question and make sure you understand what he is asking for.

I want to learn to root. What's the easiest phone to start with?

I want to learn to root. I bought an unlocked Nexus One to try it on. But thought I'd ask if there's an easier phone to start with? Or is that one good? It's never been used. It's Android version 2.3.6. GSM... I have two phone numbers, Verizon unlimited grandfathered plan with a Samsung s5 & an AT&T Go Phone with a broken HTC One. I don't care which carrier I use & no problem to get another one if that's better. Any ideas? Bill

I'm currently an AT&T customer but wanna buy a new phone and switch to Straight Talk.

Hey XDA,hows everybody's day going so far?
Ok, so I have a LG E980 on AT&T. Phone is showing age and the headphone jack is having a hard time connecting. Time for an upgrade.
So I wanna keep the same number but switch to Straight Talk. How does this work? Do I buy the unlocked one or the AT&T and bring my AT&T phone to Straight Talk?
I hope somebody can help me with this. Does anybody know how long it takes for a phone number to transfer to a different carrier?
Thanks in advance for helping me.

Ask straight talk if you can bring your phone to there service, should be able to I think? Yeah it's pretty easy to port number over. When you get service call straight talk customer care number and they will contact old carrier for you.

First of all chose the phone you want. As for AT&T version or US unlocked version (RS988), it will depend on if root and twrp is important to you or not. If you want TWRP and root, get the RS988 version (I recommend getting it from B&H photo) as it can be bootloader unlocked, rooted and install twrp. It also has all the network bands for AT&T, T-Mobile & Verizon. If you don't care about root you could do the AT&T version if you want. As far as transfering your service, it's pretty easy. Go to walmart (or where ever) and buy the Bring your own phone package (you can buy an AT&T sim from straight talk for the BYOP program as well and it's cheaper). Once you do that activate your service using the instructions for your new G5 and chose the option to port your number. Straight talk will need your AT&T account number and account password to transfer your service, but it usually is pretty quick that it transfers, unless you run into a problem.
