Be careful: My Xperia Theft Protection Problem - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

Every Sony user knows about "My Xperia" function of their Xperia Device. It's like the ‘Android Device Manager’,which helps to find, lock or wipe your device remotely if lost or stolen. But android devices can easily flashed. Sony devices can be flashed also. So, it does not work actually.

Here comes the best part from Sony.
Existing security solutions are usually a part of the Android operating system. This means, that by swapping the operating system the security feature or application is deleted.
My Xperia Theft protection is added to the bootloader of Xperia devices. The bootloader is needed to start the operating system of your device, and it is not part of the operating system itself. So if you delete the operating system, MXTP will stay active and your device will still be protected.

What will trigger it?
• Performing a master reset.
• Performing a software repair using PCC or B4M (or third party flash tools).
• Deleting the Google account used for enabling MXTP.
• Trying to disable MXTP in the settings and failing to provide the correct login credentials 5 times.
• Trying to delete MXTP or removing the administration rights of MXTP.
• Triggering Lockdown using MyXperia in a web browser (with the correct login credentials).

What happens in Lockdown?
• All running applications are stopped.
• You can no longer maximize the notification panel.
• Incoming calls are sent to voicemail (if available).
• Outgoing calls (except emergency calls) are blocked.
• The USB port will only be available for charging. It will not be possible for a PC or Mac to detect the device.

How to exit Lockdown?
If lockdown was triggered you can unlock your Xperia device by authenticate as the valid owner of the device by signing in to the Google account which was used to activate My Xperia with Mobile Data or Wifi
Tap Authenticate in the lockdown screen > Enter the login credentials you used for sighing up for MXTP and tap Sign in > Wait until your account is validated.

So, you can say that Sony is the most secured android phone now. But wait...
***Here comes the Worst part***
At the time of writing this review
A lot of M4 Aqua users reported that, after 3 days of activating "My Xperia", upon reboot, the phone entered into Lockdown mode automatically. After providing the correct ID and Password the phone failed to Authenticate and remained in Lockdown mode making the phone paperweight.
It maybe due to their software bug as the function is afresh and need more testing and time to be fully perfect.
But the worst part is that, if it enters into Lockdown, you won't be able to flash it with flashtool to make your phone working again. Only Sony Customer Care can fix it. And if there is no customer care around you, you are screwed.

Theft Protection workaround
I managed to reset phone using companion tool and after that my username and password was validated. Just don't try to put password if it says invalid password. Reset phone and then enter your password. .. Temporary workaround. Expect Sony to provide bug fix soon

i bought this phone 2 weeks back. yesterday i swithed off my phone. after i switched on it i got struct with "Protected" interface.MXTP gave me the lockdown screen with the verify, wifi settings and emergency call options on it. So as I wanted to unlock my device i pressed the verify button and a log in screen for my google account appears. I use my google account on all kinds of different devices so I logged in. But here someting goes wrong.
When I typed in the username and password to verify it is my M4 it gave me a loading icon for 2 seconds and then it says "incorrect username and/or password" and my M4 stays locked. To double check if my password and username are correct i logged in to another adroid device and my laptop with no problems. So now I'm stuck with a brand new non working xperia M4.I have already tried to factory reset with sony pc companion.. but even after that the problem stands. in sony's website on a post the said that " as this MXTP is combined with boot loader even after factory reset the problem will remain". as im from srilanka i dont even have a service center. helpless at all.. if anyone know the way to get rid off this please help me..:crying::crying:

5 days back I've given the phone from where i bought it. unfortunately they also clueless about this problem. they still searching for the solution. but yesterday i went to their service center they said they got another phone with same prob but when they give the user's google id and password the problem got solved. so what is the problem with my device?? im totally confused about it.

So according this statement i can get unlocked my phone if i show the proof that im the user of the phone. so this is the last solution i have now. but the problem is sony india saying singer PLC is authorized deler but the website says metropolitan is the dealer so alot of problem to be solved in front of me the first smart phone of my life for which i waited more than 2 years causing unexpected headaches to me,

What a Fu***** Sh**
I have a Sony Xperia M4 Aqua dual sim and updated my android system yesterday up to lollipop. After this update the "my xperia theft protection" was automatically activated. I tried to log in with my gmail account and my password numerous times. I even tried to reboot the phone a couple of times. The password and gmail account were absolutely correct and I was able to log into my account on a PC without any problems. The "my xperia" app accessible via myxperia.sonymobile.com located my phone in the middle of nowhere and even deleting my data and reseting my phone did not work. The only fu***** thing that did work in the end was to repair and reset the phone via Sony PC Companion. How the fu** can you create such a fu****-up software? My Sony Xperia M4 Aqua was a piece of sh** and fu***** useless for a whole day until I figured out how to fix it and now all my personal data including pictures, videos and everything else is lost...... Thanks Sony! Big THANKS!
P.S: Sorry for all the stars! ****

Are you connected to internet? You must be connected via wifi before introducing the google password
El vive en la piña debajo del mar

Yes, of course I was connected to the internet. I even tried a couple of different WiFis just in case. All Wifi connections were fine, simply the MXTP function is totally ****ed. Well, customer service told me that I should send it in to Sony customer support (10 days). All my data would have been lost anyways. Data recovery would have to be payed by me. Well I suppose this is real customer service! :good:

It's a matter of authenticating My Xperia to Your Google Account. When you are in Google sign in page try to get help from the page by choosing "I know my user and password but I cannot sign in" after Google authenticate the program, you will be able to authenticate.
Hope this helps.

disable usb flash (not camera flash)

is it also possible to disable the phone from entering flashmode on either locked or unlocked bootlaoder?
i dont want ppl to steal my phone and flash over it to use as their own ?
i mean how to disable flash using computer (eg. SEUS, flashtool) not disable recovery?
pls tell me. thx.
THIS IS BECAUSE X10 EVEN IF IT HAS LOCKSCREEN, WHEN U FLASH, NO MORE LOCKSCREEN
SO THERE IS NO PROTECTION.
my friend has xperia u or p or something.
he said he forgot his password and flashed and the password still remained -he managed to remember the password eventually
i am happy for him, but i wish x10 could do the same or else we have no protection from thieves.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO DISABLE USB FLASHING? SO THAT X10 cant be flashed so that lockscreen cannot be hacked?
PLS HELP ME!! i am feeling insecure coz there have been recent stealing-cases in my workplace

Yes you can - destroy or better unsolder your usb port.
Jokes away. No dude, you cant prevent entering flash mode, because it is hardware dependent function. On almost every phone, you can delete all passwords and locks after reflash because all passws are stored in system files, which are overwritten after flash.
Yes, most older phones had hardware lock which wasnt possible to bypass with software flash, but its years ago and I dont know any phone that uses hw lock chip in last few years...
i wish android was like iOS, but android does not ask for password before you flash iOS needs password before u flash or u cant flash
THAT IS THE ONLY THING i like about iOS.
all the other features, iOS sucks. android rocks

Yes..avast anti virus has antitheft that installs to system and reloads thru a factory restore. Also can set it so you can lock down your interface, disable usb debug, and has to have password to uninstall and/or remove from device administrator list. Many other features, too many to list. Gps location, lock screen, forward calls and text to a different location, wipe feature, siren..etc
*Android is upgrading...*
Oh, and it will turn on your gps, force data to stay on so can locate and send commands, notify if battery dying during commands, is cyanogenmod flashproof if running one of their roms. Root install is best, but if unrooted will install update.zip to sdcard and you can lock the usb access do even if they try to reboot the update will reinstall

Know that, but remember that Avast! (and all of anti-theft apps) cant prevent flashing your phone. Even if you have xrecovery installed and do a factory reset and full wipe from it it unlocks the phone. And of course if you make a flash with flashtool it will surely unlock phone anytime.

Yeah, it is better than others because IMEI sim detect and hidden anti-theft.
But, it can disable only usb debugging, which is not used for flashing. In flashmode only kernel and few native executables are loaded, but not android or dalvik machine itself. So you can enter flashmode and flash any rom even with avast installed, on xrecovery its the same, but after system wipe it should work also (but not sure...).
Anyway after flashtool flash it will format and overwrite whole system and nothing could prevent it.

Galaxy note atolen too
As a person who has had two phones stolen I can tell you one thing - there needs to be a password on the use of flashing.
First I had a galaxy note, which has Samsung locate. But hardware reset saw to that.
Second I had a CSL Spice, knowing about hardware reset, I set about finding an un resettable program. In comes avast (brilliant though it is).
Two criticisms, first is its method of retrieval. Sms. Yes, sms. The thief has thrown your sim card in a bush, but in order to remotely access your phone, avast smses your sim card. Classic. Try it, steal your own phone, or get a mate to, it's so tragic its funny. Go on, back up your apps, take out your sd card, and be your own thief.
Second issue, obviously is flashing. Avast hides on the partition, but this is wiped and remade based upon your new OS. Bye bye avast.
So really there are two key solutions: password protection on the flashing access. Set by the user, changeable only by those the user gives it to (engineers/new owners). And the other is set a hardware code like IMEI on accessing not just a phone network, but also Google Play registration, and Samsung /other apps registration. That way the code can be flagged by the owner.
Actually thirdly is an email address which appears upon failed flashing password attempts. To remind the thief that he can still take the brick of plastic and metal (and gps) back.
I'd like all new owners to be informed of what to do upon loosing their phone, codes to note down etc. As I feel this is not done enough. I'd love to start a push to get Samsung and other droid phones as well as Google Play to start this and maybe we can finally end phone theft.

Can't use MIUI due to mi account

I'm not able to use MIUI anymore because of the inability to enter my mi account's password.
So a month ago, I created a new mi account by using my phone number cuz i was not able to unlock my bootloader officially. I then did a factory reset but now whenever i start my phone, it asks for Mi account verification password... So even when i enter the password, it shows incorrect password and i cant get past this part so I'm stuck at this startup screen and cant use my phone at all. I even tried resetting my account password but it says "You've exceeded the number of verification attempts allowed within 24 hours." even after waiting for 24 hours before another attempt. It still shows the same error after a month. I think the reason is not verifying the new number after creating mi account.
I would like to add that I've tried contacting Xiaomi customer service quite a few times but they were of no use so I flashed an early MIUI firmware and i was able to access my phone but it was showing no IMEI number so I unofficially unlocked my bootloader and installed CM13. I'm now on LOS14.1 but wanna switch back to MIUI cuz of camera quality. So is there any way that I can use MIUI ever again?
Please help
Try this. Take out your SIM card and don't enable WiFi at the setup screen. It should bypass the account login page.

I tried that as well but it seems that this mi account thing registers itself with the IMEI number so no matter what I do, it asks for the password in the startup.

Thanks. I'll give it a try. Don't have Wi-Fi right now so I'll have to wait for few days I guess.
One question though: After flashing with the oldest firmware, I lose IMEI so do I need to update through Wi-Fi and then create a new mi account?

Cant access device after Android 9

Hi ! Today i bought my Pocophone F1 and updated it to MIUI 10. Created MI account, entered my google account and downloaded Android 9 update. After the installation of the update i no longer can pass the first settings screen. There is a Confirm your password section where the keyboard is only numerical and cant enter any of my passwords cause they all contain letters. I cannot install another ROM because my bootloader is locked and cannot unlock it from this state. I can access all of my accounts from computer, just dont know what is this only numerical password ... Would be glad if anyone can help !

Wipe data did not help.

Its seems is somehow google account related. Managed to flash the same ROM (cause its the only one i can flash with locked bootloader) with XiaomiADB and MI account dissapeared, but only Google one left. It let you go without wifi connection to the end but just when you press the last button to go to the homepage it says you cannot because there is a google profile here and Couldnt been able to bypass it cause all the techniques dont work here, like for example the talkback gesture and SSID copy stuff. Tried even to remove my device from my google profile, but with no luck for the moment ...

I suspect more likely a numeric password, which would have to be connected to Xiaomi-account.(it's google)
When I turn off the wi-fi I get a message that the phone is assigned to a Xiaomi-account with the number xyz (account number is not this asked password) which can not be checked.
Ive send the device back to the seller. Actualy i contacted Xiaomi global support, but the bad news is they cannot understand the problem i have with the device, despite the description i gave them. I wrote them if the seller cannot fix it and decline to send a new device to give them IMEI and Mi account to unlock the bootloader since i cannot access the device. I doubt instaling official rom void warranty. We will see tomorrow.
Have someone any idea?
To try to remedy to this you might want to follow these steps. Do it in quick succession.
1. Press Power Button and Vol Down simultaneously to force shut down the device.
2. When the screen switches off quickly press Power Button and Vol Up, this will give you access to Recovery Mode
3. From there, you need to wipe your data (factory reset)
Here you use volume buttons to navigate and power button to select.
I don't know of any other way for your situation.
Hi I've the same solution there is the solution
Download on your pc the fastboot rom
http://en.miui.com/thread-3943816-1-1.html
Based on oreo
Start your phone in fastboot mod (pow + vol down)
Launch mi flash
Extract the zip and the zip inside
Flash it
Bootloader locked? Not a problem launch mi flash and click on unlock
Enjoy you're phone is now alive
(I've found this myself and it working)
Hf
my phone is back

i had a similar problem after unlocking the bootloader, i had to log in to my mi account which gave me a normal keyboard but to then go online i had to enter my wifi password which gave me no keyboard at all.
i used a usb keyboard with an otg adapter to circumvent the issue, worked fine but shame on xiaomi for such a bad software...

The system has been destoryed message

Hello,
Suddenly, just 1 month after the end of warranty my Xiaomi Mi Play stopped working showing "The system has been destoryed" message on recovery. I have read some articles and I have found that this could be fixed by flashing the ROM, but my problem is that bootloader is locked and I kept in this way for security purposes.
I know I can use the target app (https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html) to unlock it, but it also need some steps at android level (per attached image), which I don't have access anymore.
So my question is: add my account for unlock the unlocking permission is something which is at phone or at account level?
I mean, if it's something at the phone level there is no way to fix, but if it's at account level, I may fix the issue by using another Xiaomi device.
Can someone please clarify to me, or may I have any hints please?

So, probably phone is bricked and there is no way to recover except than support center.
Hello,
I ran into the same issue a couple of months ago. I was EU rom using mi flash and accidentally selected the 'clean and lock' option. There are a few ways you could try to fix your phone:
1. If you have a mi account that is registered to the phone, you could login to mi unlock using that account and try unlocking the bootloader and then flash using mi flash.
2. If you don't have a registered mi account then your options are pretty limited. You could try a go to a service center but like me there might not a one in your region. The only other option edl test point. There are many people, mostly russian or indian, who have an authorized mi account and are selling their services. A quick youtube search and you'll find many options. They remotely connect to your computer and use their authorized account to unlock your bootloader and flash the factory rom. They usually charge anything from 25 to 30 usd.
There is a way you could apply for authorization from mi but judging from the many forums it is vary rare to get a reply let alone get authorized.
Unfortunately there is no other way to Unbrick your device until now.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
My Mi account was registered on the phone, but once I login to "mi unlock" and try to unlock, I got the error attached.
I am suspecting some operations on the phone were required in advance.
I mean, I have never applied for my Mi account to being able to unlock or something, is there a specific page where to do now (e.g. on a differenr Xiaomi phone, online, etc.)?

Hello,
I have checked on other forums but it doesn't seem that Mi Play has an edl test point.
Or I couldn't find the correct information...

RE:Help for lockpattern on huawei honor9

Hello,
I have Huawei Honor 9 STF-AL10(al09) (chinese version 6gb/128gb) which can not unlock. Before some days i gave the phone to my child for playing, then he put lock pattern and he forget it next day.I was using my phone with my fingerprint ,whitout know the lockpattern, and some days later, it says fingerprint suspend - pattern required. And i am trying everything and cannot unlock it. I know the email which is connect the phone, i try when open it in google devices, but is not allowed USB debug and not allowed Find my phone and cannot unlock. Is there have any way to unlock and keep information in. I have a lot of doc, notes and some apps.
I need to save everything as it is inside.
I can wipe and recover, but i need to save everything.
Is there any software do this(doesn't matter if its paying).
Until somedays i have option every 1 hours to try 3 times, but from now is every 24 hours only 1 time.
Or, if there have any way to unlock again with my fingerprint and after that i will allow usb debug and remove lockpattern?
Please help.
Thanks!
Regards,
Georgi
Have you tried third party programs like dr.fone?
This article has some positive reviews, check it out as well.
You can't unlock bootloader on huawei devices so you can't recover data from it :/
If you're desperate you can follow this article here to unlock bootloader on your device, it's quite expensive though.
Also unlocking the bootloader wipes all data and that's obviously not what you want.
Should all of the above mentioned fail then I really think wiping it is the only option.
Should you succeed then do post what worked for you here so anyone viewing the thread in the future knows what to do.
I can do wipe data/cache from boot menu and i can reset it, i know the email and everything, but i need to save everything as it is inside.
I was thinking, if there have any way to bring again to unlock with the finger print and i will fix it.
It is not a problem, i will pay for Dr Fone, but i was write to them to ask, is the software can help me, without losing anything inside, but they not responding me.
I am trying any combination with lock pattern, but the problem is that now is only 1 try in 24hours and killing me.
Yes, If i find solution i will post it, to save a lot of searching for somebody else.

If you know the email then why not reset the pin?
You can't get the fingerprint to work if it says fingerprint suspended, it's a security feature in Huawei phones and you have to enter your pin.
Try sending it to an authorized service center, they may be able to help you.

What I mant by PIN is the device password, or lockpattern.
Did you try forgot my password?
If you have a Huawei ID and you're signed in on your device then follow this guide here.
If all of that failed as well then I'm sorry to inform you that your data is no longer recoverable.
Make sure to do regular backups to avoid this mistake again. I personally use this app.
Also turning on parental control mode when giving your device to your child is another way to avoid this happening again, I personally wouldn't blame my child for this.

I commend your determination annon, but please don't waste your time.
There is no way to recover the data. You don't have debugging mode on, no root, no unlocked bootloader or custom recovery, you don't have a Huawei ID, and google account/google find my device doesn't work.
I don't mean to interfere in your family issues, but as I said I wouldn't blame my child for it. Judging from the way you spoke they're still young.
Instead I'll turn on parental control mode before giving my device.
I will try to find a way with fastboot, if there have some way to do it, i can see the device in ADB terminal , it recognize it at fastboot device, when start the phone in fastboot recovery menu.
Yes, he is 8 year old, i'm not blame him, they are child - it is normal for them.
