Hi,
It is my first Sony android phone (with a SD card slot). I was wondering if this oddity with internal storage and SD card relationship is across all Sony androids, or unique to ZU.
Basically, when I use Astro File manager, it looks like there are 2 SD cards mounted. I guess SDcard0 is the internal storage, and SDcard1 is the actual SD card.
Now, I also see an ''emulated'' SDcard, whatever that is.
MY MAIN PROBLEM IS THAT NOT ONLY DO I NOT UNDERSTAND THE WAY IT IS LAID OUT, I ALSO CANNOT MOVE APPS (and more importantly, massive data that goes for these apps) TO SD CARD TO PRESERVE INTERNAL STORAGE.
All those apps in play stores don't seem to work, because none of them actually recognise an external SDcard storage in y Z ultra.
Do I need to wait for ZU to be rootable so that these problems can be overcome?
Or is there a neat trick to get around this?
Thanks in advance

Once rooted you can use an app like foldermount, but you are going to have to wait for the root to be released first.

Thanks! Please tell me that it is a matter of time before Z ultra is also rootable. If so, I can wait patiently:fingers-crossed:
Has there ever been an unrootable android thus far?

Hi, still waiting for my XZU. BTW, what do you mean that your apps can't recognize the external storage? My experience with other phones with 'emulated' internal storage didn't prevent the apps from recognizing the 'real' external SD card.. There is usually also an option to choose which storage is used as default - at least on my previous huawei ascend P1. Can anyone confirm this on their XZU?
edit: as default here means as the main storage for apps data (picture for camera apps, downloads from browsers, downloadable content for some apps, etc), not the installed apps and system data

What I meant by 'not recognising' (I could have phrased it better) is that yes, I can access it from any apps except that they are labelled as SDcard0 and SDcard1. What I tried to say was that for those not familiar, it seems confusing. If the internal memory is actually an SD card hidden away deep inside, I can kind of understand, but the way this phone is set up, it looks as if there are 2 external SD cards (which of course, there aren't) and no internal storage.
If there is a way to choose where certain apps can store their relevant data, I would like to know how for VIBER, Beyond Pod (podcast player) and Androrec (call recorder). I am assuming that there is no systematic way of selecting storage destination (via android or Xperia interface), and that these apps don't offer such features in their settings, and that we need to wait till the day some hard working genius figures out how to root the ZU.
Where?

When installing apps off playstore, where is it saved? sdcard0, sdcard1, extsd, emulated?
When using foldermount, what should be the destination folder (to mount it on my external sd card)?
I really want to know more about those storage locations because it confuses me all the time especially some of them contain the same files
Thank you

Using solid explorer and things are far more clear on it (recognize directly which is what) but to make it simple:
-SDcard0 and emulated are the internal memory
-SDcard 1 and extra are your SDcard
So if you wish to move an app to your SDcard send it to SDcard 1.

Yeah that's not possible .Its how it is....only apk move to SD card not the app data. You shud just root and then use Folder mount
Low end phones are much better with root access

HELP.!!!!!!!
How can i move pre-installed apps to sd card??? My phone is rooted...
pre installed apps are usually placed in system folder
the updates of those apps can be moved to sd card using link2sd
in order to move the entire app to sd card, the system app should be converted to user app
heard about another app called folder mount with about the same usage, but personally haven't tried it yet
Movable with 4.4 api
0ok friends..i have read somewhere that app data can be moved if they are using the 4.4 api..
and i have installed frontline commando d day(mod)..its one single apk with the data, and it installed to sd card without using any internal memory.if anyone know how to make these apk please tell me or any games that are moving to sd card..fully...
plz inform.
Hi people I have a question >> can Whatsapp be transferred to external sdcard...and if yes then do all images and videos share on whatsapp get stored on external sd or internal sd... kindly let me know...accordingly I may decide to purchase the phone.
Hello, after hours of looking, and trying and researching, I have to ask for help.
I have a ROOTED Android 4.2.1 SONY Xperia SX (SO-05D).
I want to make all my installed apps, and future apps to be installed in the Micro SD Card I Installed (32GB).
In the root drive, there's a folder called: "ext_card" I tried moving things there manually and nothing.
I also tried manually in /sdcard/external_sd and nothing still.
I have tried the following apps:
App Manager
Force2SD
App Shifter
Folder Mounter
Link2SD
And nothing!
The only thing that's actually saving in the Micro SD are the Pictures I take, in the DCIM folder.
Can anybody help me please.
I do not want to save anything in the "internal storage", and also most of the apps only allow to move to the "SD" part of the internal phone memory, nothing is actually being moved or being installed in the Micro SD Card.
Please help!!!!!
I have a problem with the new rom overlay kitkat 4.4 on ST18i Xperia ray, I explain: when I move an app from internal memory to SD card (using the same option ROM) to restart the android app icon disappears. I tried to put the write permissions on sd card by editing "platform.xml" but nothing, nothing changes. The app continue to operate in the same way the sd card. For example if I try to download something with the browser in the "download" folder existing on sd, the browser tells me: not enough space, and not download. If, however, exhaust the files in a folder created by the browser in the sd then it does.
I am grateful for any help.
Fixed
Hi I have a Xperia z2 and I recently upgraded to the marshmallow update. And now the apps on the sd card won't open, they have a red sd card symbol next to them. What has happened to my sd card, can someone please help me thanks.
that is know problem of permissions SD card in MM, solution for that i guess in eXistenz Rom 3.5.0
Your Sd is still good, but the app permissions are broken. Try installing the apps again without uninstalling the damaged ones.
