5.1.1 trashed my S5  - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

My phone has been completely trashed out by this so called "upgrade".
It is extremely slow after 5.1.1, constant app crashes, very lag response on every operation. Also, it will not lock on screen timeout, will only lock if I press the lock/power button.
My computer no longer detects the phone. I am trying to backup to do a factory reset, but Kies does not connect, stays connecting and never connects.

Lockscreen thing can be changed in the settings. Other than that I haven't had any issues, quickest my phone has been. It's nice that the recent apps button doesn't have the lag anymore either.

My phone is around the same level of usability.
Updated and seen it was laggy nearly everywhere. Did a factory reset to help the update settle into a clean enviroment.
Yet still aggressively laggy.

I used Odin to flash 5.1.1 and have had no issues. Did bootloader and modem first then did the rom. A bit of an extra step but for some unknown reason the modem didn't stick the first time I used odin. Anyways, I installed my apps and two games (arkham city and injustice) and my emulators. Still no lag. It helps using odin because the phone gets cleaned out. You can install twrp afterwards and it still boots no problem. For now I don't miss root...yet!

Could you point me in the direction of the necessary Odin files and steps.
Also if I remember correctly using Odin should not tamper with or trip the Knox counter/root checker as long as the files being flashed are not tampered with correct?

Stock rom in thread by jeshter2000. Look for direct link and remember to use administrator rights when you start odin. When done and you still can get into phone check your modem! If it took then great but if not then use odin 3.09 admin rights get modem from munoz_ir thread. In odin place modem in cp uncheck everything except restart phone. Should take. Afterwards do factory reset. That will put you back into start up wizard and cleanEd out gremlins. Use odin to install twrp. I tripped knox loooong ago. I think that trips. Dont know bit its up to you. Then go to thread by muniz_ri How to updateto 900t OF6 w/out pc. That has a debloater script. There is also his other cool stuff like tether, call recording and write to SD card.

Thank you, I will definitely check this out.

I did the update and no issues so far. I don't see much difference with 5.0.

This Update is not good. The phone is noticeably much more laggy . Apps take too long to open and often times they force close. this even after reflashing with odin and a factory reset. Often times when the phone rings the screen is unresponsive and I am unable to answer it.This new firmware version also can’t be rooted as of yet. lastly MHL is broken on this one. Previously all that I had to do for mhl was to plug the phone into the mhl adaptor which is plugged into a monitor or a tv. now to get mhl working I have to un plug the monitor or tv before I attach the phone otherwise I get constant reboots. also if I attach a charger to the mhl adaptor it must be a 300 mah charger . any thing over that will also cause the boot loops.

Again, I have no problems and even nandroid back into 5.0.1 then back again with no problems. DI'd you odin or flash rom to 5.1.1? If you did any of the two make sure you remove your Sim card because this update is funny about there being a Sim present. Hell, the camera even has a smooth recording function that's great! And yes, I had tried about 3 or 4 times flashing till I read about the Sim card.

does mhl work for you?

I use the back of my TV usb which is very convenient for me for usb out and low voltage. So mhl does work for me.

Have you played with the camera settings? And how is battery life for you? I see an improvement on it as I am a heavy user. Only used 20% from 8-5 at work listening to music.

battery life is fine camera is fine. mhl not so good. just tried usb . tv does not recognize phone.

they replaced my phone for free next day ups
5.1.1 screwed up my hdmi mhl output
they sent me a new one with 5.0 now im happy then i rooted it then froze system updates with titanium backup

My set up is 5-pin mhl adapter with 5pin to 7pin adapter. The main adapter uses micro usb for power from tv. I have never used any other type of mhl cables for my S5. Used to have smart dock for the S2 and S4 but since the S5 does not have a dock mode that cause a reboot. So if you are using a smart dock or other multi media dock/cable that could be the problem because it wants to kick on dock mode. Gonna try with a charger when I get home.

Hmmm that to me doesn't sound right, but Samsung could be just f-ing with us.
Anyways, I was having the same issues at the same rate, but after a factory reset (it was actually seven full wipes), my device seems to be operating normally with the occasional hiccups. I'm not expecting much out of this device anyways... it just needs to get me through the year until I find a replacement LMFAO

Should wait for a dev to get hold of it and tweak it, ota's sux......I have never done one.....see to many posts like these....

Well in the past couple of days my S5 has started to reboot every time I leave a WiFi connection. If I leave home and start driving, the minute I'm out of range, device shuts off and reboots. IT IS STARTING TO PISS ME OFF!!!

I have to say that sadly my phone has not been the same since fof6 the first 5.1.1 update. I am now on foG6 and while there is improvement I still have experienced the phone completely locking up to the point of having to reboot to get it working again. I am now almost certain that most android phones are intentionally given unstable firmware updates. this is planned obsolescence . that way when you're sick and tired of your phone "not keeping up " with the next android version you go and buy the next flagship. repeat each year.this sucks

Ashraf, your theory is likely a byproduct of poor QA by both, Samsung and T-Mobile.
I loved my GS3 so much that I even skipped the GS4, but this phone has made me to carefully consider what I will be using as my main device next. So much, that I am even considering an iPhone and keep the GS5 as my "play with Android" device as I will no longer care about warranty lol

Am I hard bricked?

Hello,
I recently got a friend's old Samsung Fascinate (Galaxy S) from Verizon, SCH-I500 EH03. This is the first Smart Phone I ever owned and I wanted to join the bandwagon, long story short I read xda-developers.com for a couple of days trying to absorb as much as I could and after all my faulty USB Cable messed it all up.
I was updating PIT and PDA through ODIN, Powerwashed and Atlas when my USB Cable got a little bit loose, I tried to put it back it and unfortunately it came out of the device, Odin errored out, phone froze and I got a Green Screen, not knowing what was going on and out of desperation and bad judgement I pulled the battery out.
Now I get a black pitch screen with no icons on it, Ive already researched for Soft Bricked and I do not get the Black Screen of Death, this is just Black. Computer doesn't recognizes phone at all, I've trying holding power button for a long time, removing battery or just using USB Cable but nada.
I' did some research on the Jig mod but it seems that it only works if you get at least something on the screen while all I get is a black screen.
I'm about to try to attempt doing this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1206216 - The Captivate Development Platform AKA Unbrickable Mod.
Before I do so I'd like to know if there is any other alternative, I don't have much experience on electronics and I'm going to purely base my judgement and fix on the thread above me. I realized that my phone might be gone for good so why not give it a last try.
Thanks in advance for reading.

Hello,
Thanks for the response.
I did try to run Odin without the battery but the phone wouldn't even turn on at all, Id like to think this was caused because the Cable I used was a generic one and not the Original Samsung one, I have ordered one Online from Ebay, one that is Branded Samsung and specially for this Phone, I will update this thread as soon as I get it and try your steps.
Once again thanks for your help.

I must admit it man, I knew you knew your stuff, but I had my doubts, Thanks a lot for your help, I'm truly grateful for your help. My phone is unbricked now.
I got a couple of questions for you if you don't mind,
Id like to have newest android but I'm not sure if this phone can support it, you seem to have the same phone number as I do.. what version of Android do you run.
And last but not least.. is it true that since the phone was vberizon and I want to use a different carrier I can only use the Voice Plan for it?, Data plan won't work on rooted phones unless I go to the original carrier, is this a myth or true?
Thanks once again for the amazing help, I'm truly happy!

Np This phone is one of the most supported phones out there and the fastest. Right now I'm getting performance as good as the galaxy s3. This phone can run ICS, jellybean, and even the new 4.2. Jellybean ROMs run the smoothest though. Just look and droidsytles guide section 4 it will tell you everything. I also have couple of ROMs up. Also it is a myth.

Okay, I will go to their location to complete the activation, one more and last thing, Which ROM do you run on your phone, I instaleld Paranoid Anroid JB 4.1 but I've read a few threads that it drains the battery so I was wondering if you could share what you use since you seem to know this phone pretty well.
Thanks for all the previous help, without you I would be using a really old phone right now

My phone has been activated, with a different carrier than Verizon which is the original carrier of the phone.
They have reset my Android OS back to stock... but phone finally works I guess is a good thing, if I want to go back to JB Paranoid Android 4.1 would I have to reactivate again after following Droidstyles guide? or can I just do the 4th steep and the phone will be ready to go.

If you should need to do it dial *22890 or *22891
That will get you past having to input a number option to activate

Almost perfection!.
Two more questions,
1- Is there anytihg else I would need to do, load a rom or tweak so DATA works? , I've activated my phone and Voice works perfectly fine, I can also send text messages and WIFI works.
2- Somehow my phone still thinks is with Verizon Wireless for some stuff such as Google Play Store it gives me the option to Add a Card, Redeem Code or Charge my Verizon Account?
Also when I turn on the phone the bottom of Jelly Bean Menu to unlock the phone shows Verizon Wireless, is this normal?

My Experience with Galaxy Player 5 INTL (YP-G70)

When I first received my Galaxy Player, I was ecstatic; my first Android device! Well that was back in June 2012 and now it's becoming more of a frustration than anything!
I got into the modding scene just like the old days with the Sony PSP so I've rooted the device and flashed many ROMs over the months. I've found some really nice setups and learned a lot. I've ended up with the following setup and I love it:
Galaxy Player 5 International
Kernel: rj's custom kernel for Galaxy Player 5.0 INTL (YP-G70) r14
ROM: G70XXKPH Gingerbread 2.3.6 Stock Firmware
Launcher: Xperia Home 2.2.A.0.14.ra3al.r7
Since the Galaxy Player doesn't have support any variant of ICS with a working camera I went after the best GB ROM I could find. I've tried Chip, Entropy and others but they've all had their problems and I moved on to my current one. I can actually hear the Android tap sounds on this when I touch an icon like in the stock GB ROM! Among other reasons I believe this ROM to be my best option.
As for launchers, I've been through all the popular ones including all of the TouchWiz's, Go Launcher, Holo and now Xperia. This one is absolutely amazing! I love nearly everything about it, especially the animations and layouts! It pairs really nicely with the weather widget app too!
I finally get all of this setup and performing smoothly and quite fast too! But of course there has to be problems ~
The biggest problem is the card reader very often hiccups and thinks the cards are damaged or have been unmounted or removed randomly. This happens with more than 2 of my cards so it's the device itself!
Frequently random crashes where I cannot turn the display or anything on, requires hard reboot.
The camera very occasionally winds up with a disabled touch screen after taking a picture.
The camera often doesn't even load past a black screen with the status bar to the side.
Etc..
I'm starting to think it's best to stick with the Stock ROM and use my favorite Launcher and Kernel and avoid all this hassle! Although I was under the impression that I AM using the stock ROM, minus the tweaks mentioned on the developer's thread. Does anyone know why I'm having all of these problems?
My goal is to get this device back to factory default settings including ROM and Kernel. I just got the thing in a bootloop after flashing the stock ROM via Odin so I'm trying to figure that out. I'm also having difficulty finding the legit stock ROM and possibly Kernel, where could I get those if you don't mind?

Latest legit stock ROM is linked from the end of the KPH thread. It includes the kernel.
However, no stock kernel supports the ext4 filesystem. That means if your /data or /cache are formatted to ext4, it cannot read them and bootloops. To fix, either go into recovery and wipe data and cache, or if you have things on there that you don't want to lose, flash Rumirand's kernel again with Odin, go into cwm, and make a nandroid. You will still have to wipe data from "Android System Recovery" after flashing stock, but you will have a backup.

Thanks for the tip! I was wondering how to get back into recovery since holding down and/or home wasn't working at this point. Didn't remember that you could flash r14 with Odin. I'll have to try that!
Do you have any experience with the complaints I have about the device or am I the only one who's device tends to act up this way?

No, I haven't experienced them, but I spend most of my time on ROMs where camera is broken. Your issues sound specific to your device, or to your ROM/kernel. I recommend upgrading to XXKPL, as that may help.
And I believe on International devices recovery is vol UP and home, not down.

That was a typo, I meant to say "Up+Home", Down is download mode lol, woops.
My new setup (before reading your post):
Kernel: r14
Firmware: 2.3.6
Build: GINGERBREAD.XXKPH
What's the difference between XXKPH and XXKPL?
Update: I'm trying to flash XXKPL with Odin but it just makes the device bootloop. I'm even using a .pit named "G70-GalaxyPlayer5.0-8gig-Inter_model_2.3.5" but it just bootloops. So I'm figuring it's due to that file extension situation and I'm trying to figure out how to properly flash this Stock (XXKPL) ROM properly.
Update: Okay! It seems all you need to do is flash rem's r14 kernel and the device boots right up. Shame there's no one click fix to just flash the Stock ROM without issue like with flashing a custom ROM through CWM Recovery Menu.
Now I'm sitting at:
ROM: Stock G70XXKPL
Firmware: 2.3.6
Kernel: Rem's R14
I look forward to the first problem in this setup!
The new JB roms are in Nightly betas. So far all of the things that we are missing from it are Camera (kinda works), functionality for the earphones/headphones (you have to plug in earphones with a mic and then all of the other types work). That's really the only major problems I can remember and they are all close to being fixed.

That's pretty impressive! I had no idea they were that far along in JB! I could search for it myself but I'd probably find the wrong thing, could you give me a link to this particular JB Project please? I really want to follow and support it!
Ah and of course all day I've been dealing with this device of mine misbehaving! Every time I pull it out of my pocket and try to wake it up it just doesn't respond, no lights no screen, there's nothing. I have to keep hard booting it every few hours!
The worst thing is the camera almost never loads anymore! Either the default or my Camera Zoom FX app. I launch it and it never fully loads up or if it does it either takes 1 pic and then the touch screen doesn't respond. Or it says there's a problem with the SD card like it's missing or damaged so it doesn't save the pictures.
There is always something with this device I'm so annoyed with it -_-. Any help or advice? Because I'm at my whit's end here with ideas!
Update: I'm actually starting to suspect the Xperia S Home Launcher as the problem here. I noticed this did mostly start to get worse when I installed it and so far since I removed every Xperia-related software and went to default TouchWiz that it's performing just fine. I hope it stays this way but what a shame, I really like the Xperia Launcher. Even more than my favorite Go Launcher Ex! D:

Thanks for that! I was under the impression that CyanOgen 10.1 was the main JB ROM. Glad I asked lol.
Btw a little update with my Galaxy Player!
The Good:
So far, since I've switched back to TouchWiz and dropped Xperia (sadface), my device has not locked up on me!
The camera also stays functional!
The Bad:
"SD card unexpectedly removed" continues to randomly occur (as I'm writing this)! Why? The card is still in there, I never touched it.
Still, when I power it down, the device sometimes hangs at the black screen and never completes the process!
Must reboot first to connect USB to PC. Even with USB Debugging disabled and Mass Storage selected.
Is this normal? I'm seriously starting to wonder..

Is not normal... Never got ext. SD Card unmounted or remove notification in 4 months of use. My advice was to try with another SD Card but you already done this!
Try clean the SD Card socket (blow on it) and push and pop some times the card, just to be sure that there isn't some dirt that make false contact.
If the problem persist i'd suggest to bring at garancy assistence.
Mine takes much time too... it takes more time to turn off that turn on, but after an half minute it vibrate and turn off itself.

I just tried using air pressure to clear out any dirt and no improvements thus far.
Main problems:
Camera works 50% of the time.
SD Card reader randomly claims 'unexpectedly unmounted'.
USB storage randomly stops successfully connecting.
My question now:
I feel like my particular Galaxy Player is a Lemon. What is the manufacture's warranty for this if I bought it from Samsung? What are the chances of me exchanging it or getting it refurbished or w/e after all this modding? (shot in the dark lol)

Awesome, then I'll stick to KPL for now. Oddly enough I have this setup:
ROM: KPL
Kernel: Remirand's r14
Launcher: Xperia (i can't help it!)
And so far the only persistent issue is the SD Card "unexpectedly removed" and the occasional need for a hard boot. Hopefully this is the worst of it, aside from the minor nuisance . I think my device will always have those.
similar problems
I have similar SD card problems. I use it primarily as a music player, and at random intervals I'll get messages in the stock music app saying either "This file does not exist", or "This file type is not recognized."
Typically, I have to remove and remount the SD card, sometimes several times, to clear the error.
Ya my problems are all still persisting an really bad now.. Going to send device to samsung through warranty. This is definitely a hardware issue and i cant fix it!

If only I had these problems within the first 30 days, then I could return it easy to Amazon as well. Hopefully I have success with Samsung Warranty. One annoying thing is I have only 10 days to make sure the device arrives at their site before my claim ticket is canceled so I have to wait to create a new ticket to use it. Such a hassle.

[Q] [SOLVED] Speaker dead, USB not recognizing, SD too, etc.

Hello guys!
For about 2 or 3 weeks now I have the problem that the speaker on my TF201 does not work anymore. Headphones are working fine.
It also does not recognize any USB Sticks anymore. The Dock is not dead, it works fine and also has current on the USB Port (the USB stick LED is activated but does not blink for accessing it). Also the SD Card slot does not work anymore. The MicroSD slot on the tablet itself works fine...
And the next thing: My PC does not recognize the tablet anymore when I connect it. It does load when I connect it to the adapter but I can't transfer files anymore via PC. Cable is not broken but to minimize this risk I already offered a new one just in case.
Do you guys have any idea what this maybe is caused from? Maybe broken hardware? Or maybe a not properly connected cable in the tablet? But if so why is USB and stuff not working?
Please help me, I don't wanna lose such an awesome tablet
And I may can't even RMA it cause I've unlocked and flashed a new ROM on it...
EDIT 12.06.2013: When the tablet is fully turned off and USB is plugged in (PC, not charger) it suddenly powers up. I still can't use USB ports...

Do you have one of the Prime to USb connectors? I wonder if the issue is in the dock or the tablet connector.

Sadly no. I never ever would have used that cause I have the dock. And Dock can't be broken, the problem appeared since the speaker is not working too.
I tested MicroHDMI output now. Works fine, audio is there too. Hm... Strange...
Hidden "Camera Version" function?
Sorry, wrong thread ^-^" Please delete this entry!
My first guess is that something may have gotten disconnected inside the Prime. It's unlikely, but worth a check. Have you ever opened your prime?
When you have a dock, you have two options of connecting it to your PC. You can put the Prime into the dock then connect the two to your PC or you can just set the dock aside and connect the Prime directly. Have you tried both ways?

Jup I tried both ways.
And no I never opened it up. May I should look for a tutorial. Does iFixIt have an tutorial for it?
I don't think that iFixIt has one. At least they didn't about 6 months ago when I needed to replace my glass. There should be links to tutorials buried in these forums. Also, a little Googling should find you something too.
Regarding the HDMI audio working: Not too much of a surprise. Remember that the micro-hdmi port is sending a data stream with the audio embedded/encoded as 1s and 0s. It seems like something may have (hopefully) come disconnected related to the built-in speaker.

I opened it up but I saw no unconnected or partly connected cable. I only lifted up the touchscreen, about the other parts I was too afraid to ruin something... Didn't unscrew so I wasn't able to see the under connectors.
Anyway, I don't think it's an unconnected cable. But if it's a software fault why are suddenly without flashing anything like Kernel or Bootloader so many things not working? That's just... What the hell o-O
Also I don't want to RMA it again. It's flashed and unlocked so I may have to pay 100€ for it... I could easily spend that money on a Galaxy Tab or something. But would still be awesome to have that one as "backup tablet" then just in case so I don't want to just throw it away.
Good on ya for taking a look. If you disconnect the robbon cables that connect the digitizer and LCD to the mainboard, you can set the top part (the screen and glass) aside and take a much better look. I completly understand your reluctance for fear of damaging. I felt the same way when I took mine apart the first time to replace the digitizer glass.
In devices like this, the headphones and the built-in speaker have separate amplifiers. They're not like very old transistor radios where the headphone jack is connected to the speaker wires with an interlock. I found this out when my Viewsonic 4.5" video player had digitally garbled sound in the headphones but not in the built-in speakers. Weirdest thing that I wouldn't expect being old-school...
The upshot is that you simply may have failed components, which is a real bummer since these are (imho) still pretty sweeet tablets.
You *could* always contact ASUS support and describe the problem and see if they can share any familiarity or knowledge with you. Sadly, I've found ASUS support to be bag-of-hammers dumb and patently useless, despite having a decent product.

Opened up again, tried to push a few connectors in a bit but nothing... Looks like I really have a hardware failure...
But what now? When I send it to ASUS (or the shop where I bought it) they might say "Nope, you opened that thing". Also flashing back Stock ROM is... Yeah... Many work... I already was on the 4.1.2 Bootloader, upgraded to 4.2.1 now. I don't know how seriously they take that whole hacking/flashing thing, maybe they even repair a flashed tablet.
I dont know if it helps anyone further pin-point the problem because i havent been able to but i have the same issues and for me the sound comes back once i have the screen separated from the tablet. i can restart the tablet many times and audio still works as long as the screen is not fully in its place. If i clip the screen back in its place audio still works until i turn off or restart the tablet.

Hello i've got the same problem and i'm praying someone can help.
Since updating from Androwook Hairy Bean V2.11 to V2.2 RC1;
there is no sound from the external speaker; playing media, notifications, alarms etc
dock doesnt recognise usb stick
pc doesnt recognize the tablet
on V2.2 RC1 i got the update pad firmware message and i accepted it, not sure if this is the cause because others have done the sam and reported everything working fine.
Also starting getting a notification on startup "unable to detect driver for loudspeaker" on V2.2 RC1. So i downgraded to Hairy Bean V2.11 thinking it would solve the issue but it hasn't, nothings changed.
I've tried a factory reset, cold boot, downloaded dsp manager and not been successful.
Has anyone come across this problem and found a solution?
Please help me
Thanks

That is very strange mate.
The firmware update was just for the pad and if it had already installed on 2.11 and was working fine then that was done. The only person who ever had a problem with it happened as he was installing it and we fixed that.
Upgrading to 2.2 changed nothing from 2.11 except a slightly newer base and some newer kernels. Even if the kernels were not supporting your hardware when you downgraded back to 2.11 you would have been back on the old kernels and back to how you had it working before.
This does confuse me.. As a test because I cannot think of anything else except hardware failure at the moment can you try getting the downgrade zip from the hairybean thread that takes you back to 4.1.1 bootloader and compatible twrp and then try flashing hairybean 1.51 instead.
Read the instructions thoroughly under the downgrading section.

Thanks for the assistance Flumpster and I've been following your thread, you've done some damn amazing work!
Just for the record 2.11 + that kernel had my prime running the best it ever has! after doing all the wipes, formats I flashed v2.2 and got the update pad firmware then and missing speaker driver notification? I dismantled my prime and checked for a loose connection on the speaker but it looks ok.
I'll try the downgrade tomorrow (going to bed now) and if that doesn't work, i still have audio through the headphone jack.
Thanks again

Ok mate.. Well try the downgrade option first and if that doesn't work then first of all I want you to drain your battery completely and leave for an hour. After that charge it up a little and try ( I know this sounds crazy and I thought the same when I first read it in another thread but it fixed our one guy who had problems with the firmware upgrade )
If this still does not work then upgrade back to 2.2 and once you are in the OS I will try to talk you into downgrading that firmware update to see if that helps.
If that still doesn't work after downgrading the firmware update then it is hardware sorry.

ok micro sd card was coming up write protected, so formated and downloaded new files and managed to downgrade to 4.1.1 bootloader and v1.51 - still no sound from external speaker, also sd slot and usb still not working on dock. Tried running the battery flat and leaving it for over an hour then charged a little and powered on still no change.
I'm leaving work now and have limited internet access tonight so i download the v2.2 zip tomorrow and see if that works, otherwise could be hardware hey.

[Q] XZU_GPe encryption woes

So I have a XZU_GPe that I used unmodified for about 4 months. There was nothing interesting going on with it. Although I did have the device encrypted as a requirement to get my corporate mail on it. Then last month I decided to start tinkering with it. I unlocked the bootloader via the Sony website (sadly without backing up the TA partition) and flashed the CandyKat ROM from the forums. It took much better advantage of the hardware than the stock Android did and I was pretty happy with it save for a few minor bugs. Then after running that ROM for two weeks, I decided to add my corporate account back on and encrypt the phone. The phone became unusable after. It worked fine after being powered on, but several minutes after the screen locked, it would power off. The only way I was able to get it back on was to connect a UBS or Power cable and hold down the power button for a long time. Basically anytime I shoved it in my pocket it powered off.
I promptly flashed Cyanogen and ended up with a working phone again. Two days after, I tried adding the corporate account again. The phone seemed to work perfectly fine for a day, then started behaving strangely again. Now, the phone goes dark anytime it isn't plugged into power and locks. However, I can power it back on at anytime by holding down the powerbutton for a long time (no cable needed!) I could wipe the phone and start over with a fresh Cyanogen install, however, I'd really like to get my work email on the phone and can't figure out why it's behaving badly. At this point I am not even really sure where I should be looking.
Any help appreciated.

I wouldn't run a custom rom if I needed to use encryption. The stock rom would probably be serving you well.

If push comes to shove I'd rather skip the corporate email and actually be able to do things with my phone. I tried just rooting the stock ROM, but it proved as resilient as it was ugly. The "security" built into the newest Android versions kills me. I have an SD card that has moved through 4 phones so far and has all my photos and other important data on it. Being forced into saving everything "to the cloud" or losing it when my phone dies has sent me down this path.
Thank you for the response.
I really have no knowledge of encryption for email security, so am just taking a stab in the dark here. Would installing a remote desktop app that would access your home pc work? That is assuming you have one with your work account set up.
In my opinion, people who make custom roms test them for stability as much as possible, but them going as far as to test them while encrypted is not very likely.
IMO these Xperia phones are temperamental anyways, I'm on my third, and all of them have been buggy. I had to ship my Ultra back to Expansys yesterday because it wouldn't quit freezing/rebooting.

Easy to root, just follow the guide that is stickied.
I feel the best bet for working encryption is Stock or maybe CM, I know I've not tested it on the Carbon builds
IMO most stable aosp ROM I found for Xperia is the ported GPE 4.4.4 rom. Not a single bug for me and if I were you I'd start there.

The OP is using a GPe device, and installing ROMs intended for the Z Ultra not sold by Google will not work. Going back to stock for the OP is the same as us installing the port of the GPe Stock ROM.

Galaxy S3 is not charging fully, and other issues.

I'm 15 and I got this S3. I've installed Linage OS 15. The battery drains abnormally quickly. I can never get it to 100%. Usually 97 or 98% Which means I tried to calibrate the phone at 98 and it didn't help. I can't even get 2 hours of semi-light use. I usually just use the browser or YouTube. I can't get it to last more then 2 hours. Then it takes forever to charge. Sometimes I give it 6+ hours and it's not even at 90. So I decided maybe it's a much newer ROM. So maybe if I go back to jellybean it'll give me better battery life. Not even. Same issues. Except I can get it to 100% then I unplug it and right back to 96-98%. I'd get a new phone. But as I'm sure some of you know. Money isn't easy to come by.
If the battery drains quickly on the latest stock ROM, it could be time to replace the battery.

Lineage OS 15? On i9300?
Really?
I agree with audit. New battery needed.
To get odin working you need to put the phone in download mode first, then connect it to the pc and install the drivers.
The other way is install Samsung kies on the pc and then uninstall it but keep the drivers. Connect the phone while it is in download mode.
You MUST use the main USB ports on the motherboard. On a laptop it is the port that lives alone on one side of the laptop. That is the main "unshared" port. The side with 2 ports, those are "shared power" so you might not get a good signal on them. No doubt too much info but now you know..
Samsung are quite resilient so don't fret if it doesn't do exactly what you tell it to. You just need to problem solve.
Another tip is only work with a cold battery. If the battery is hot it loses its ability to hold power and will discharge prematurely. This is amplified when the battery is worn out. You could find that you flash to stock and the battery is fine but it was the other rom choking the cpu.
Seriously though, s3 is a legacy device now and isn't capable of running these newer versions of android. If you want a newer android then buy a newer phone.
So. I managed to get Odin to work. I found a package which flashed my phone back to almost complete stock. Recovery as well. It's slow and whenever I try to play music off of my SD Card. It'll show it playing. No sound will come through nor will the time of where I am in the song will change. Any ideas?

So. I managed to get Odin to work. I found a package which flashed my phone back to almost complete stock. Recovery as well. It's slow and whenever I try to play music off of my SD Card. It'll show it playing. No sound will come through nor will the time of where I am in the song will change. Any ideas?

I managed to get Odin to work... - Any chance one of the posts above helped you achieving this perhaps? Are the :good: Thanks buttons broken in your browser? (hint: @shivadow maybe?)
...my phone back to almost complete stock.. Any ideas? - Yes. Maybe you could find an answer in the mystery almost complete stock ROM thread?
The point of @audit13's suggestion about using a stock Samsung ROM is to rule out a possible hardware problem by using a known working ROM.
So thanks to the mysterious "a package" you introduced "slow" and music playing problems instead of solving your original battery draining question.
To make proper troubleshooting suggestions one needs clear & precise description of the problem(s), name of app used when problem occurred if applicable, device model, ROM name and system modifications done if any (custom kernel, etc.).
By mentioning a user and typing an @ in front of his name like @eziomandude for example or by quoting a post, users get notified and you have more chance of getting follow-ups replies. Also giving feedback on suggestions and Thanks are the only "salary" people get for helping others and it is courtesy 101 IMO.
Good luck!

I understand where curiousrom is coming from but I require no thanks for the help I provide as it is my choice to help and give free advice. This is 'MY' personal choice and opinion.
What bugs the living daylights out of me is when people ask for advice and don't take it but instead do the opposite and wonder why they broke something.. But that is people all over and the crazy world we live in.
Thankyou for the support, it is greatly appreciated!.

Although the g5 is a nice phone I'd still go with an htc U11.

Thanks broth but How much does U11 cost?? It's better I can't deny it, I was looking for price and quality
In this world you get what you pay for and the U11 is expensive.
