Hi all
I've just received my S6 edge, realized and read all over the web that Auto-brightness is always on, even if I disable (un-tick) it on the status bar and tried with a torch on the sensor and guess what...it was true It went full bright, as I wish I could adjust it myself whenever I wanted to!!
Is there anyway to really turn off the auto-brightness and adjust the full level of brightness myself??
If anyone doesn't have this problem, please let me know what firmware are you on?? Test is easy
Turn off (untick) auto brightness and put a flashlight over the sensor next to the speaker
Check if display becomes brighter
Thanks
I do not have that problem. I am using a custom ROM, but I never had that problem to begin with so it might be an issue that only applies to certain variants? I know there are tricks with root that can overcome this issue, so if you have not acquired root I recommend you give it a try.

Mine is from Verizon. In the US. I installed Extreme Syndicate, an extremely debloated rom... It has alliance framework built in which allows customization such as that which you desire. V7 of the rom is based on the OE2 build of 5.0.2

Alliance framework or different rom for now needs custom recovery
As I ve just received the phone I dob't wa t to trip knox for now and most important part I can't use Smart view with my tv if I go custom recovery or kernel!
So I need a more "stock" solution...anyone with a stock firmware preferably on 5.0.x (so as to easily root) that this bug is not happening??

I am a bit surprised. Letdown.
Since my suggestion wont work for you,
why dont you ask Samsung about the bug?
If no one here has an answer, perhaps they could explain what is going on?
It is my only other suggestion (albeit a quasi-bad one)

The thing is from what I ve read that everyone is facing this issue/function
If you have autobrightness from the slider turned off and hold a torch on the sensor next to the earphone you ll see your screen super-bright, in fact not so quality bright(contrast and sharpness way too high), it is supposed to be like this for direct sunlight so as to be able.to see better.
Final conclusion is that next to my s5, lcd from s6 seems a little dimmer, maybe little more realistic colors but for sure a little dimmer than my s5 for sure.
Do you have an s5?

If I threw my phone off a roof and it shatters, should I complain about that too?

Do you know what practical means? How is this affecting your phone usage in a negative way?
Unless you're telling me, you use your phone in pitch darkness with a flashlight shining on it. Otherwise, nobody cares.

Most possibly you dont understand what I m talking about!
As soon as I get home in the normal lighting conditions screen is dimming itself although auto in the slider is not checked!
Only way to get all brightness back again is to approach the phone close to a light source, either a flashlight or just a simple lamp at home!
There are many google results complaining.about this.issue!
Do you have an edge yourself??
Maybe you can test it and if it s not happening with your phone can you share what firmware are you on?

I have an edge.. That's why I'm on these fourms, and I am aware of the problem you're describing.
Alright, let's do this one question at a time then.
1. Can you still see/read the screen when it dims?
2. Does your eyes hurt from the abrupt dim in the screen?
3. Why does this matter for your daily usage?
4. Why are you complaining about this, when there's better things to complaining about? Like ram management (that actually effects people in daily use).
5. Have I made this clear on why people don't care?
6. Are we good on this topic now?

2. No
3. 3/4 of usage is inside somewhere, why not gain from the full potential of the phone's lcd

I didn't say threads or topics shouldn't be made, when people have problems.

lag issues? i'm not familiar with blade buddy or that touch screen app for galaxy.
i haven't done anything *too* intensive on the phone but i have rarely experience any type of lag on this device. the lack of lagging has been very impressive to me.
if you are on the stock ROM and kernel and still experiecing lag, based on my personal experience, you might want to look into taking it back for an exchange as it could be a hardware issue.
if you don't experience the lag on a stock ROM and kernel, it might be whatever custom ROM or kernel you're using has an issue or bug. if you're on a custom ROM/kernel, also good to check in those specific threads to see if anybody else has reported a similar issue so the dev knows to look into it and resolve.
hope that helps!
Yea when I first got the phone the xda east major laggy and that's before I rooted so I guess I need to take it back then cuz this sucks...since I rooted its been flawless but couple days later the lag would come back and now my screen is becoming unresponsive at time for like 2-3 secs!!!

yea. as a last resort test, i'd flash everything back to stock and run it for a day. see if its still laggy. if it is still laggy, find good examples of when it lags so when you take it back, you can show the person how laggy it is through the examples.
hopefully you can swap out for a device w/no issues!

lol yea, given the unknown area rooting a device currently sits from a legal standpoint, i'd avoid anything related to rooting the device as a prime example.
ideally, if you're experiencing lag on the device, it will occur frequently in common tasks like making/ending a phone call or moving between text messages or moving between menus in the settings screen, etc. it makes the best case for having an issue when you're able to demonstrate it lags during normal routine operations.
hope that helps!

hah yea. working on mainly two small apps on the market, root check and flashimagegui. pondering publishing the completely stock ROM with root, busybox and some developer tools i use on my personal device (as I did publish this on the evo and it was decently popular - might be where you saw my name). also, trying to help out (give back) in the q&a boards when i can!
if you find some good common tasks which cause the device to lag, post them back here as people with the same or similar issues might find this thread through searching and it'll give them some rough benchmark to compare against.
i've yet to see this device lag through any common tasks i run. previous android phones ive had would experience lag so this device has definitely impressed me!

i put mine back to stock and my screen well freeze or lag couple times a day and i have to hit power button to put it to sleep and wake it back up to stop it from doing that and that last only a couple hours.
Isit just me or is the brightness crap when using in daylight. I compared to my one x and y just seems dim at 100% even on a light cloudy day.

WARNING:
Using this mod may decrease battery life, decrease screen life and/or quality, cause overheating, cause your phone to blow up or cause other damage to your phone. Use at your own risk. I am not responsible for any damage this mod causes to your phone.
This Mod will increase the max brightness of your phone by about 10%.
Note:
Auto Brightness must be turned off for this to work.
Root is required for this Mod.
Instructions:
Download and run app attached to this post.
Or. ..
echo 1 > /sys/class/backlight/panel/auto_brightness
If you reboot or enable auto brightness you have to run it again.
The best way to tell if it worked would be to run it when your screen is already at full brightness. You'll see it go a bit brighter.
Tested on T-Mobile Note II, but this may work in many Samsung Galaxy phones.

I did not try to flash a different ROM but i am not sure if this is a hardware issue or software..

I had this problem too (like many others) when we were on 532, but it was fixed on 257. You could flash a AOSP ROM and see if it's still the same? If it's not, it's a software issue, and if it's still there, it's probably the hardware. My guess is it's a software issue.
You could try a CM ROM or the GPe. The latter is the most stable one and without bugs.

Just my 2 cents, if cleaning the screen doesn't work and updating to 290 doesn't, if you have a third party keyboard disable it and return to stock then see if any change.

lol - I know - but I figure since we have the same device - the problems ought to be relatively universal.

I had an issue with ghost clicks after enabling Swiftkey tablet legacy after having had a completely click free experience for months before enabling it. As soon as I disabled it it was fine and has been ever since. Weird I know, but maybe worth trying.

hello all again
I think i solved my issue. I found out another topic in another Xperia phone forum. That phone's users problem was undersensitive touch screen , so i did opposite of what they did
I went to /system/usr/idc but not modified the file max something.
I modified clearpad.idc file. The value touch.pressure.scale was 0.0075 something. I changed it to 1
now the touchscreen is less responsive and nearly no ghost clicks anymore.
Hope this helps anybody have this issue.
So, I hope others add to this thread. I learned something new to me and thought I'd share.
There were several times when I picked up my phone, and it vibrated. For no reason. I thought this was odd. But, there was a reason. I just didn't know it. I have been reading the samsung site's FAQ and was enlightened.
When you pick up your mega and it vibrates, it is telling you there is a missed call, text, voicemail or other notification waiting. It's called Smart Alert. Very convenient if you have notifications limited to 1. Never had a phone do this before. I like it!!
I learned my Mugen 6600mah battery is a beast giving me double battery life lol naw I'm playing. Glad to see someone else noticed that vibration thing...but running custom 4.4.2 it doesn't do it anymore.cheerz

I will throw in one. On the lock screen, I added a widget for the remote. Now, I don't even have to unlock the phone to turn the tv down. I really like the IR feature.
dmn i wasnt sure what those vibrations supose to do ( for me it was more like "haha im not sleepn any more" lol )
IR is pretty sweet. what apks u use to use ur mega as remote controller?
I just use the Samsung stock WatchOn for IR remote. It works well with my dish recievers and televisions. Is there something I should look at that is better?

If you use 2 fingers to pull down the notification panel you'll get instant access to the shortcuts. I used to pull the panel down with 1 finger then click the gear icon to access it before.

I like your version of that vibration!! I used to think it was just saying "HI, still here!"
I use the stock watch on too. I found this by accident. Was going thru the unfamiliar apps in the apps drawer, clicked on it and found a very cool thing!!! Works on optonline's cable box! Very cool. I have the Note 8 and never found this one. It's there though! Just had to hunt for it.
Keep um coming guys!!! Thanks for your participation! :highfive:
I just learned over the weekend that my Mega can be used an an IR remote for my Nikon camera. Does all sorts of stuff that the Nikon remote does, and for free ($4 if I want the ad-free version, which I'm considering).
I like that when I am txting someone.... I can tap on the paperclip and choose "record audio".. then it gives me over 3 minutes of yapping and yapping.. so much easier than typing or even using the voice typing.. 3 minutes of my own speech.. in a txt message!!! love it
Ohh i just learn today this, if you update your mega 6.3 I9200 to the new firmware you will get this beautiful security call KNOX :banghead: ahhh i lost my root  so if you get the OTA Update you should think twice before upgrading.

Can someone explain exactly why knox is so bad? Does it keep you from re-rooting?
This is what I know about it so far. It makes a separate "box" of stuff so you can keep your work stuff separate from your personal stuff and your employers have the ability to control this "box" somehow. I know it can't be un-installed. That's about all my knowledge, even after checking it out!

There is no going back to older version rom if you flash a knox enabled rom. You are stuck with it. You can't install custom roms either.

Sorry, but it's no way... new firmware is one way ticket - you can't go back even if you have nandroid backup. New bootloader prevent you from downgrading. Anyway in my opinion it is only matter of time to find a way to root new firmware with KNOX. And when 4.4.2 arrives there will be no other choice than upgrade with all what it contains... and one of this things will be KNOX for sure.
Since no one is jumping in here to explain why knox is so bad, I went back to find out exactly what knox is. Read the following link from samsung's site.
http://www.samsung.com/global/business/mobile/solution/security/samsung-knox/
This explains what it is. I still need to know why it is so bad for devs to get around it. Any one???
What I got so far after reading the above link is it is attached to the bootloader, and the kernel, so if anyone messes with these components, the phones senses it and shuts down the phone. Is this the huge block associated with the att version and knox in general?
I ha e discovered that in my text window, when I hit vol + or - , my text size will increase or decrease. Hmmmmm.

This has nothing to do with knox
The bootloader will block any older roms.
But it's still possbile to flash an older rom through custom recovery
