I already posted this thread but it was in the wrong forum, so hi, sorry for posting a thread that's likely already been answered, I tried looking through the forums and I'm lost. I used to be really into the custom ROM scene and whatnot back in the galaxy S2, but haven't really been at it in a while.
So I bought my fancy new S6 Edge G295W8, and I'm looking at how I can go about safely rooting it. I checked CF-root but I didn't see my model number, it seems like samsung's adding in more and more model variations every generation. I'm also on a carrier that isn't mentioned specifically under the S6 forums, so that adds to the confusion. So what's a good and safe root to use? I'm still familiar with odin and flashing as pda and whatnot, so I won't need a tutorial on that, just a good starting point at a thread with a root that'll work for me.
And another minor question, any good ROM recommendations? How's the cyanogenmod support for my model? Are there any good clean roms with the edge features still intact?
Thanks in advance for your help, much appreciated.

Are you sure that's G295W8? Most of the model numbers I see are G925 instead. G925W8 is a supported model for the ping pong root.
As far as ROMS go, I haven't tried that as it would likely trip KNOX and void warranties.

Sorry I'm dumb, yes I meant that G295W8. I just tried pingpongroot, and i keep getting the root failed message. I'm on 5.0.2. Are there any alternatives? kingroot doesn't seem to support my model number.
Pingpongroot should work on the w8. Both of the s6s I've had (edge and regular) worked on it no problem. You just have to do the force root or something like that. Can't remember what the options were but it worked/works like a charm. Just trying to figure out how to do the recovery without wiping everything again...

I have the W8 as well. It's Canadian I assume. I used pingpong root no problem, but haven't really gone further due to all the models and confusion... I wish the Canadian carriers had their own section in the forum as well. It'll take awhile but just read. I still don't get it myself lol. Don't try flashing a recovery yet or anything though... From what I've noticed, it's bricked many devices

So I basically just kept trying ping pong root... It took a couple tries and resets and it eventually just worked I guess?? You're making me paranoid about the recoveries now, are there no solid recoveries for the w8 yet?

With the update to 4.1.2, it seems that the Australian version has the bottom icons locked. You can't change them. I've researched this and its only in Australia.... I was pretty pissed off with this, but I thought I could get used to it. Well, I can't.
So being the noob that I am, I thought simply rooting the device would allow me to solve this issue, but it doesn't seem to be that simple.
What I want to do with this phone is to unlock the bottom icons, and get rid of all carrier related stuff (boot animations, apps, etc.). Ideally I want to run pure android 4.1.2, as I'm not a fan of touchwiz, but I tried looking and I couldn't find anything, which is probably down to me being a noob. I wouldn't have a clue how to install it properly either.
So it's a Galaxy S2 I900T
The phone is on Telstra
It has been rooted
It's running stock 4.1.2
If there is anymore info you need to know in order to help me, just let me know and I'll add it.
Thanks in advance!
Well...... You could just run a custom launcher. Search for Nova launcher on the play store. It's the one I use, it's customisable to just about whatever you want.
If you're rooted and do actually want to run stock android instead of just changing the launcher, then look for the index of ROMs in the s2 section. I think GaboWinter is the OP. Look under the AOSP section in there for the stock android ones.
Quick tip, if you do flash a rom you'll have to flash an i9100"t" specific modem or your coverage will be dismal.
Ps. Is it really just the Australian version that can't change the dock icons. How rubbish.

if you want pure android, you'll probably be unable to find 4.1 since it's obsolete in aosp and I'd advise you to go with either 4.2 or even 4.3, as 4.2 especially is highly stable.
also, the guy above me is mistaken about modems, the stock i9100 modems work fine on the t variant, just depends on your carrier which ones you want to use.
to install a rom just flash a recovery image from odin (e.g. Dorimanx or PhilZ) and then copy the necessary zips to your sd, boot to recovery, and flash them
remember to back up your data first though

Just to clarify.... "the guy above you" owns an i9100 and maintains a friend's i9100T. If you mean the international i9100 modem is able to be flashed on an i9100T, I agree. I've done it. I know you also own "T" variant.
What happens in my case is that the data speeds are so dismal you'd be better off using an encyclopaedia than googling something (literally 2Kb/s in some areas. Flashing a "T" specific modem sees the speed jump to 250-300Kb/s or so in the same spot). I'm guessing by your post you have better success than that with i9100 modems on a "t" variant.

No probs mate Odd that you say that, I use XXMS2 /MS3 myself, so naturally tried them on my friend's T variant immediately after rooting. Both modems were dismal and got the 2Kb/s (sometimes hitting 20ishKb/s :0) I mentioned. Now I've got them on DULP4 & no issues at all

Oh lordy, please read and search the threads, you already managed to read enough to get as far as you did. You can install Safe Strap, although it is a bit buggy on MI1 from what I have read. No custom recovery option. Just root and debloat and be happy, that is the best route for now. See if 4.4 can bring some new exploits. I was rooted on MI1, I just followed the thread to upgrade to MJ7 and stay rooted. I am not dealing with safe strap, just seems like too much work for a phone that already works great.
Thanks for reply

I really appreciate your prompt response. As you see, I am a new user to this kind of things. But still I seek the opportunity to find the best sources to make these changes on my phone and be lucky with testing ROMs and the best Deployed Apps .... Yes I have read that so far no method for Recovery, but you never know if someone has made work and willing to show how.

BTW Can you please give me more information about "debloat"? Thank you very much my friend.

Yes, actually you do know, because anyone that has made it work will post to XDA that they did it.
Relax. The S4 is a nice phone as it is, enjoy it for now. Pay attention here at your leisure for any new developments if you must.
There's still a huge bounty if someone gets a bootloader unlock. I doubt if somebody figured it out they would turn down a huge chunk of money and not tell anyone about it.
Don't worry, if someone unlocks the bootloader it will be all over XDA.

Am i right in thinking you are coming from an iPhone? Rooting an android phone isn't like jailbreaking in the sense that no matter what firmware you have, you can still root your phone and flash custom ROMs.

No, never had an iphone, never will i hope. I have had several android phones (moto defy, galaxy s/s2/s3, xperia s, htc desire hd). My qustion is whether it's a complicated method or is it root->cwm->flash type of thing...I just got it and don't wanna mess anything badly without knowing.
Haha nevermind, it was just asking for registering my device. Oddly enough it's already update, don't know if it's normal.
Anyways i would like to have some info about how flashing works on S3 because i have had phones where "unlocking bootloader" and actually letting the company know that the device has been unlocked like in xperia s case. So i just need some info regarding the method. Also some info whether it's worth flashing a specific version or rom out there that provides a better overall experience than stock.

All of the GT-i9300 phones (that's the model number for the international version) have the boot loader unlocked. All you need to do is, like you said, root it, flash CWM, and flash the ROM of your choice.
Samsung did implement a flash counter which will turn from 0 to 1 when anything is flashed, there is an app on the play store that can change it back to 1 called Triangle Away.
Personally i use cyanogenmod, if you don't know, it is the most popular ROM right now (i think) and it is based on AOSP (the Android source code from Google) but with many tweaks and added features that make it much faster and a better experience than stock. Right now I'm running the unofficial KitKat 4.4 version.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2529775
A lot of people get scared by the word "unofficial" but after a few weeks of running it i haven't had a single issue.
I use a custom kernel so i can overclock and undervolt, it's the boeffla 2.1-beta2.
http://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boe...st/boeffla-kernel-CM-2.1-beta2-cm11.0.CWM.ziphttp://boeffla.df-kunde.de/sgs3/boeffla-kernel-cm/cm11.0_download/Test/boeffla-kernel-CM-2.1-beta2-cm11.0.CWM.zip
wait so the counter stays at 1? no way to make it 0?
Oh sorry, typo Triangle Away resets the counter to 0
Hello.
I have searched the forums and I do not see this question. I have googled and see this answered all over the place. Some people say you can and some people say that you can't. Something about flash locked bootloader when 5.0 is installed.
I absolutely love my white note 3. I have had it for years and just replaced the charger port. I wanted another one for my business line. I can't find one that hasn't been updated because that is exactly what I want. Before I flash this one and mess it up I want to check with you guys officially.
This is what I have now and want on my second phone:
N900PVPUBMJ4
N900P.12
SM-N900P
4.3
N900PVPUBMJ4
JSS15J.N900PVPUBMJ4
I know how to flash this with odin and have done so many times. But I have always been on 4.3 and never upgraded. I just disable KNOX and rename all the update files so it leaves me alone.
This is the note 3 that I bought:
N900PVPUEOH1
N900P.12
SM-900P
N900PVPUEOH1
LRX21V.N900PVPUEOH1
SEPF_SM-N900P_5.0_0009
MDF V1.0 RELEASE 4
VPN V1.4 RELEASE 4.1
KNOX 2.3
... [ETC all the way down]
My question is this possible at all? What is the risk? What are my options? I really want to have a nicely rooted note 3 just like my old one.
If it is not possible can I root this Lolipop?
What I was going to do was just flash the note 3 I just got in ODIN like I always do with my old one, but I am afraid that I am going to brick it or its going to get stuck on the sprint logo because the bootloader can't be downgrading.
Well please let me know.
Thank you.
Okay. I tried something different. I searched downgrade within Q/A and did find some things stating that it is impossible. This really frustrates me. What are the odds of me finding a note 3 that is not already upgraded.
So now what are my options?
I really enjoy my rooted other note 3 for exposed installer, wifi-tether, and a possible ad block.
Can I do all this with Lolipop? Is it easy to root? Or should I just return this phone?
Let me know.
This is what gave me hope.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...t-guide-note-3-lte-sm-n9005-lollipop-t3093183
Is this not true? Special phone or something? I see it is for the International Version but it says Lollipop 5.0 and its downgraded. If its impossible how did he do it?
If all is impossible. If I root Sprint Note 3 on Lollipop will I trip Knox?
jimzweb1 said:
That one is flashable with Odin only. It would work but it would take you back to bone stock NC5 with no root and you would lose all your data. Think of it as buying a new phone and starting from scratch. I found one to but the download link is broken. Most of the guys here have updated to OC5 5.1 of course l'm still running my 4.4.4 NK4 deodexed debloated rom it's smooth and bulletproof.

Question here.
If I can't downgrade. Can I just flash a rooted "one click" on this phone and run that version of Lollipop on this phone or will that create problems as well? This will probably trip Knox as well right?
I think someone said that no matter what you do to root or re-flash ROMS now you will trip Know. That correct?
I am thinking about trying KingRoot.
I used Kingo Root a lot before and never tripped Knox. This one however seems to be support by XDA and should be better.
Do you think I could use this without tripping Knox?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/one-click-root-tool-android-2-x-5-0-t3107461
Its not on its supported device list through. So does that mean it will probably trip Knox?
Why isn't anyone helping me?

This is a paid option and not for developer types like us. I am not convinced they support our USA model 955U anyway.
I would think Chainfire might come out with something like happened with S7 Edge. We shall see. Been 3 weeks.

Think you missed the "lol" portion if my post
So I have been doing some research and the same kind of issue was occurring with the S7/Edge and there was a modified ODIN and "Engineering" boot.img (kernel) that claims to root the device. So I am curious if using that "modified hack" version of ODIN and a boot.img that has a kernel compatible with snapdragon (the only one I see in main s8+ forum is for Exynos). Not sure if this is really safe to do but I am guessing that once enough devs want root on this device, something will be out there. Has anyone tried KingRoot?
I have trieed Kingroot but always fail!!!
I hope Chainfire can do something for us.
Anyway: eng kernel exist for this device? Snapdragon version ofcourse.
I contacted the support team for oneclickroot and they said that they do not have a root for the US versions of the S8+.
Was wondering if there would be a way to modify and or port the s7 boot.img to an s8+ variant? Maybe even a way to "trick" it as to read it like an exynos vairant processor?
i just bougt sprint s8+ off swappa. any update to the rooting it cause im gonna unlock it.

I've tried KingRoot, but it's hot garbage. Seeing so much in the way of information regarding the S8 Plus having a locked bootloader (Sprint ENG_US version or any other carrier variant for that matter), and I was wondering if there is any new information? Eager to root this bad boy, but no bueno thus far. I'm seeing the information for international ones using the Exynos, but I found this 'CF-Auto-Root-dream2qltesq-dream2qltesq-smg955u.tar' earlier this afternoon. Not even sure if this is compatible and I'm not going to be the guinea pig today. Has anybody else messed with this kit?
Anybody have any relevant information pertaining to effective rooting of the S8 Plus on Sprint by chance? Until I hear of some success with this, I'm not going to attempt. Got a bit of a qualm with a $1K paperweight. Please advise.
Thanks!
