So I updated Maps yesterday and out of boredom clicked on the more apps by Google Inc link. Noticed that Google Wallet showed up, clicked on it and it says it's compatible with my phone. Downloaded and installed fine. Haven't tried opening and running it yet cause a) I'm rooted (know it won't run with root since update and b) even if I unrooted I read on xda somewhere that if Wallet doesn't find the secure element that it will show an error and will never work on the phone again.
I'm running stock rooted with cwm. The only things I've done to my Note are installed the nfc.zip, swapped the mms.apk to the international version and installed vvm.apk.

Same here, I noticed it in the market and installed as well. Running completely stock phone, just rooted.
im completly stock and it doesnt show up
Well when you run it it says hardware incompatible... You raised my hopes up for no reason...
It's the same with any other non nexus nfc capable phone. We do not have the secure element so it will not run. It's almost comical how many times this has to be said

Is that a hardware or a software limitation?

The existing phones with secure elements are software. There has been talk about implemementing a software "patch" to enable it. We won't see that until att launches it's mobile payment system, Isis

From what i've read, Isis is going to be SIM based, so it won't be dependent on the NFC capability of phones. My assumption is that most NFC capable phones have the secure element, it's just not activated or accessible. The problem is, that the carriers are trying to monopolize the NFC system for payments, and any other 'hacked' way seems too risky in my mind.
Hopefully regulators will force carriers/manufacturers to allow other systems/apps to use the hardware, and we will end up with a somewhat 'open' environment for NFC. It all reminds me of the 'bluetooth' lockdown that Verizon implemented when it first came out on phones.
Sorry my intentions were not to get anyone else's hopes up but rather to see if anyone else had the same results. With both my Nexus and Skyrocket Wallet would show as not compatible on the store.
And I also knew about the secure element hence why I said I didn't try running it yet.

I don't think NFC will ever be implemented. People will develop malicious software that allows one to stand ass-to-ass in a bus or subway car and steal ppl's credit card chips lol
I really want to try Google wallet. In the ics leak the nfc option is in settings. So att has to be implementing it soon.

It will be enabled when apple puts it in the iphone. For now, an ics rom will enable it, but wallet still will not work.

I installed it. When I open google wallet, it says the following...
"Unfortunately, Google wallet has not yet ben certified in your country or on your device / carrier."
Hello folks, after lots of research I found myself compelled to open a new thread about this problem. I read in some places that it&t locks its devices not letting the phone use WiFi tether. Well, I unlocked my bootloader and rooted the phone, and im currently using elegancia Rom. Im not really interested in WiFi, only in tethering. I tried different roms and the results were the same. Any help?

Are you on a share plan or a regular plan with AT&T? I know that Tethering is included for free with Share plans but AT&T charges extra if your on a different plan. You may need to have the feature added to your account.

I bought my phone on a travel to California, but I'm from Brazil. I unlocked my phone in order to have it working with my local carrier.

Then you may have to reach out to your carrier to make sure you have the feature enabled. Most likely it is being blocked by your local carrier.

I hardly think so... I had a HOX and everything worked like a charm.
I just bought the full version of PDAnet and I'm using it. It's a shame to have to buy an app to do something that the phone itself should do by itself.

Well here in the states they charge us for each and every little feature.
so guys... no help?
Are you looking for tethering it reverse tethering??
Have you tried Fox-Fi tether from the Play Store? There's many apps on the Play Store that enable this feature.

What?
Thanks, but I'm already using PDAnet. However, I'd like to use the "bult-in" smart tethering feature of the phone, independent of third party apps
Sorry didn't see that. I know it is ridiculous having a feature disabled on your $700 phone that is built in. And having to use a 3rd party app.
Especially with carriers charging for a feature thats bulit in your phone.

Has anyone got google wallet to work?
Bump. I'm rooted. And can't get wallet to work. Anyone else?
Not rooted and still doesn't work.

Just got a Google wallet update tonight. I am not rooted at all and my phone has launched the application. This has not happened before on this device. Only device it did work on was the original nexus 7 until I rooted it. I am on AT&T. I will be hitting up a 7-11 shortly to test it.

Assuming it didn't work?
It did not. What was interesting about it however is that the terminal didn't trigger any kind of nfc response at all. There was a bit of a line so I didn't stick around to troubleshoot however.

I have a US version c6806 and I have google wallet installed but I can't seem to get an NFC response. Also there's no option for using a card. Does that mean its not supported?
found this. I'm hoping that list is old, and there are more devices available. kinda would make sense why it's not working.

So, there is a modded version of Google Wallet, which allows phones not on the whitelist to use NFC payments.

Anybody feel like testing this out on the OG? I'm not thrilled about using a modded app that has access to my cards and bank account, so if anyone wants to try it I suggest someone familiar with code dig through the apk first.

This may be a proper solution when available.

Thanks for the link. I remember reading that back in June. Unfortunately, it's no help for those of us who need immediate gratification.

I have it downloaded and installed per the directions in the linked thread, but it has been stuck on the "just finishing up a couple things" screen for about 30 minutes now. Don't know what that means, but will let you know what happens.
Update : it doesn't work. Left it setting up for 2 hours, and it gave me a settings FC until I got rid of it. It also seemed to use a ton of power, but thankfully I was plugged in.

Interesting. I've been able to download it before, but the installation always failed due to one reason or another. Tried it now and everything is working, and quickly! Awesome

This would be very helpful
Kit Kat emulates the secure element now, wallet loads, and tap & pay shows up in settings with wallet available... I have yet to actually test it though

Yeah, I've been using houstonn's 4.4 PA Alpha and Wallet and Tap & Pay are both configurable, but I haven't had it actually work yet. I tried at Radio Shack last night with no luck. Has anybody else had better luck?
I tried it, not sure if I was doing it right but no luck for me.

FWIW, I did get a Google Wallet update last night. Looks like it added some cool features, like adding a debit or credit card just by taking a picture.
Hopefully it will also now allow us to use our phones for tap and pay.
Still no tap and pay, it seems. I guess this is because we don't have the secure element? I was hoping Kit Kat and Google Wallet updates would get around that.
Tap and pay didn't work at the two stores I tried it at. I'm using a e970 running houstonn's KitKat rom. The wallet app indicates that tap and pay is setup correctly. Android beam works fine.

Unfortunately, LG OG and most of the phones subsidized by carriers are made with NXP NFC controllers. NXP has not provided the sources/drivers to enable HCE from KitKat. I'm sure the carriers paid big money to NXP to not provide drivers and lock down their customers to using ISIS payments only. ISIS sucks, you need a secure element SIM, unrooted phone, and only can link certain credit cards with high fees. Phones with Broadcom NFC controllers are already enjoying tap and pay with Google wallet.

So, just got an email from AT&T saying that I should come into a store and get a secure element SIM so that I can use Isis. Anyone else get this? Or have you used Isis?
Anyone know where I can get a new motherboard for a tmobile phone? No luck on ebay or Google for that matter. Can't do anything on the phone except access the bootloader. I tried everything to restore phone but no luck. I assume a new board would solve that problem.
