A few weeks ago i, accidently, dropped my Z2. As a result of this my touchscreen was broken :crying:
My reseller told me that he could sent it to sony but that the costs would be high. App. 200 € ! He advised me to go to a tird party phone repair centre.
So i did. They placed a new touchscreen for 150 €. At first sight the screen works perfect and the colors are perfect. But.... sometimes when i'm typing a message
the screen does not capture my touch? Then i need to touch the screen multiple times to get a reaction. But it's a bit strange. When i'm in my bed with the lights out
the screen captures perfect?? When i use antutu Multi-touch test the screen works perfect! In light and dark conditions!! Is it a hardware issue? A sofware issue.
I tried multiple roms. I tried stock rom. But the problme remains. Anyone who has an idea?
ps Sorry for my bad English!

I work at a third party phone repair center in Lebanon, and from my experience external sources screens aren't as good as the producers screens, 30%+ of the screens we replace got issues.

From your tests you can say its a hardware problem, you can't always expect perfect results from external sources.
I know But it's a bit strange that sometimes it works perfect.
And i just figured out why the screen works perfect at night. When i'm in bed i use the app twilight.
This app filters some light frequencies and dimms the screen. When this app is active the screen works normal!
It seems that it's a brightness issue?
I believe some faulty ICs in the screen are being overheated as high light frequencies are being used so causing the touch layer to stop working.
Sry, for my bad English. But you should check again the store that replaced your screen. :/

Pardon me if a thread already exists for this but I have tried to search but didn't find a thread describing this problem any where. Redirect me if you know of a thread like this.
So here is what I am experiencing. My One Max is a week old but from day one I have noticed that while i am typing a text message or email screen brightness increases a bit as soon as I hit any key on screen. Sometime it happens sometime it doesn't. I have also noticed that it only happens wherever key pops up on keyboard e.g E, R, G, O etc etc or it happens when I am scrolling messages or any thing which is in Black and White contrast (May it be messages or a web page with different dark and light pictures/rich text)
Mine is a brand new Stock Phone. No unlocked bootloader, or S-Off or Custom ROM or something of that sort. Brightness is at around 30%-40% in settings. Phone CID is HTC__J15 (Arab CID and International version).
I don't think its an hardware problem but wanted to share it with you guys and find a reason as well as a solution to it.
Cheers.
It sounds like your light sensor is adjusting itself very rapidly. I can't confirm if that's an hardware issue as your environment or fingers might have preventing light from falling on the sensor.
I would suggest you to ask a friend or a family member use your phone and see if that happens to them also, this way you could make out if your way of handling the phone is creating the issue or the hardware might be faulty.
Might be you were typing in a landscape mode.
When typing those letters, your left thumb blocks the light sensor.
If yes, then I would think It is normal.
It is just how do we use this beast.

As far as I know light sensor is right at the top with speaker. I dont use phone in a landscape mode.

I agree. This flickering doesn't matter to me too because this phone has so much more to offer that bit of a flickering wont bother me at all. I bought Note 3 for $710 and sold it right after 10 days for $600 because I didn't like touchwiz at all. But this One Max is an ultimate phone for me for next two years I believe
I've noticed it but only in low light situations. I just set my brightness at night or in dark places to eliminate the issue.

I have this too..... Just when brightness is from 0 - 24 % ( if flickers) (by higher back-light it is away - but it sucks, when you wanna watch movies in night You think it is a thing for reclamation? And have you too that the upperside of the lcd below the sensors and front camera is more white (from the back-light) than the lower side cca 1cm by the hardware buttons? you can see it in white background by web browsing.... etc...

No, I haven't noticed any brighter spot under front Cam or over hardware buttons. Don't have this problem at least in my phone but yes flickering is something that I notice regularly.
Its not something which bothers me in a great deal but I believe we must get a perfect product because we spend a serious amount of money at the time of purchase. In my country HTC One Max is for $700 and I believe this is a lot of money to spend on a phone at least.

It is on my phone bad back-light. (on upper-side you can see more white light from the light-tube... or what is there, down by hardware-buttons is instead less light it seems like burned out)
These two things with flickers - flickers less than the back-light worry's me.
You think it can be solved by reclamation on warranty repair. (i´m afraid that they say, ... this is normal by these kind of lcd) and they do nothing...
But i will it send because we are customers, and we payed not for a brick bud for high tech.... so i hope it well be good.
Before i had no problems with htc warranty's..... ( i try to show you pictures of it.... )

I certainly believe that this must be covered in warranty. None of us paid that much of an amount to own a faulty handset. If they tell you that all units are like that then you should take your money back and look for any other phone. My brother owns HTC One, my wife has HTC One X and they don't have this faulty backlight issue then how come it can be a default feature in HTC One Max.

Here are my photos of this issue... On the web-browser you can see, that it is everytime on just the lower side of the phone. On upper side you can see more light .... On the video is the issue for further epilepsy... Bottom line is that I use the phone in dark places so, internet browsing, movie watching, is not possible on zero backlight just from 26... 27% it's seems be to eliminated... But my eyes are after that like from welding. So be or not to be ..(welder or epileptic)

One Max screen brightness fluctuations
I noticed this to be the case on my One Max the first couple of weeks playing with it. i noticed at times the screen would get dimmer and dimmer. While it wasn't ovewhelmingly annoying, I decided to disable automatic brightness in settings-brightness and all my screen troubles went away! :victory:

In your video I can see that screen brightness changes and that happens to me too. This happens when webpage or movie has different Black and White contrast and screen goes kind of crazy as what it should do and there it starts kind of flickering. However, Screen Backlight Tubes problem in those photos that you posted earlier, I dont have that issue in my phone atleast. I belive that is something you should get your Unit fixed/replaced from HTC.

The flickers .... i see too the problem with the black - white contrast but the normal htc one has it not ... so i think they should work on it ..... and try to fix it ..... maybe could it by a software problem
I newer wanted samsung because of their amoled displays with they burnout - i had this on my phone on samsung omnia with windows mobile..... and the reclamation was a walk through the valley of darkness .... on the end, they told me ... that the oled-lcd how i have it on my phone is normal ... and there is nothing to repair .... Hey guys, a friend of mine give me his moto e cause he had soft bricked it. Reading through the forum I could reinstall the firmware (4.4.4 latam) and now it's working fine, but there are 5 spot in a vertical line that doesn't register my touches, these spots are aligned in the middle of the screen, one is at the y position of the keyboard, and the others are separated 1cm each other (1 is under the y and the other 3 are above). Could this be a software related problem or I just have to replace the touchscreen? (I've tried factory reset two times but I've not reflashed the firm again) thanks in advance and sorry about my English.
First take a try with Screen tester app die playstore, and change rom once, if didn't helped, you can replace screen assembly at low cost on local markets.
Well, i've reflashed the stock 4.4.4 firmware and it's still the same, i guess i'll have to replace the touchscreen. I dont know how the touchscreen works in this phone but it's a little strange that certain isolated areas in the middle of the screen doesnt work..

I had the exact same problem. I had 4 such huge spots on the left side of the screen where touch didn't work. ROM reflashes don't help. Yeah it's really strange. First I thought it might be cuz of water spilled over the screen but later on found out that the display assembly is completely sealed and water can't get in. Yeah it's really strange how display suddenly stopped working that way..even touches of local phones don't get magically spoiled like this, dunno what's up with moto. I got it replaced from local market for 1300. I would say the quality of the display, touch, brightness, contrast, everything is same as that of the original display. The only thing I suspect is that the glass is not gorilla I guess.

Hi this also just happened to me. Image is working but no brightness in screen except some bright ess in top right corner. Hi guys!
I`m having the very same problem. Back light of the main screen is gone, and it doesn`t matter how I adjust it, it is always dark.
Have you guys solved your problem already? Any ideas?

Having the same issue as of yesterday, been Googling possible reasons and it seems the 'backlight controller' has malfunctioned and the entire screen needs replacing (allegedly). Considering a new screen costs almost as much as the V10 itself on ebay these days I'm going to be trying to take mine apart to see if an easier fix is possible, it is more than likely there isn't, but I at least have to try. Let me know if any of you guys have any luck in repairing your phones

Update: Having replaced the screen with a new replacement screen, I am still having the same issue, indicating an issue with either the mainboard and/or the chipset. Can't really go much further with this it would seem so unfortunately I don't think the issue has any DIY fix...
Sorry guys... RIP my V10

My LG70 just did this for a few minutes
My LG70 just did this for a few minutes. Scared me to think my phone was dying. Restarted, still the same. While I was googling it, the screen came back on. Hope it stays that way. Really strange to take it out of my pocket and only have the screen lit in the upper right hand corner. I hope this wasn't a preview of things to come. Love this phone and want it to last!
So recently my phone has ghost images, leftovers from other apps on the screen. (eg. The top bar showing up ghostly when it shouldn't, controls of a game showing up on home screen after closing the game in a ghostly effect) It is not a software problem. I know it goes away on its own after some time, but it's very annoying and its freaking me out. Anyone else got this problem? How do I fix/prevent it
i got it to.not know hot to fix it
Very disappointed from xperia screen
I have also the same problem and it looks like a hardware issue. It's very noticeable when you increase the screen brightness. Notification bar icons/time appear all time against any dark background. Very annoying, even cheap phones don't have that problem.
Example I found online -> lnv.i.lithium.com/t5/image/serverpage/image-id/79782iF19656F933D1C741

Yes, thats exactly my problem. I noticed that it gets worse if the device is overheating
Sorry for the bump, but is any else having the same issue?
Mine seems to be getting worse and worse over time, to a point that it can literally retain half way up the display.
I use to have the same issue with my iPad Mini Retina until I took it in for a replacement and it hasn't happened since (2 years ago).
Any experiences with Sony replacing the display under warranty?
Thanks,

running completely stock & unrooted. Mine has this problem too. However, the image disappear after 10-20 minutes :|
I had this problem on my unit as well. Tried to adjust the white balance and it seems the issue was barely noticeable on the status and navigation bars.
The good thing is that screen retention falls under manufacturing defect and you will get a new screen.
Mine got replaced with a brand, spanking new one, but the issue has started to creep in just a little bit after a few months, but its very faint.
Hey guys, recently I had my Z2 sent to a service shop because it wasn't turning on or charging. The guy at the shop said that it was the battery fault and he changed it, but he also told me that the screen was not working( flickering, ghost touches, unable to work on it). So he put my old battery on and when I went home the phone actually turned on and booted up, but still I had the screen problem. So whenever I touch the screen it doesn't respond and it touches by itself. Tried putting it on rice for 20 hours, dried with a hairdryer and assembled dissamssebled the screen jacks, still the problems wasn't fix. Do I really need to change the whole LCD or is this a problem that can be fixed?

Yes, you have to change the screen, or more precisely, the digitializer.
But since the LCD and the digitialier come in one-piece, you have to change it as a whole, but at a much lower price, as your screen can be sold again and recycle the good LCD panel.

So replacing the LCD would fix the problem right? That's great then because I found an LCD with a very low price (20$), completely new on ebay and I sucessfuly dissassembled the old LCD out of the phone. I'm gonna buy it as soon as possible. Thanks man.
