I am planning to get one of these babies. Can any one enlighten me if there are any glaring faults with the phone?? I have read up on calibration fix but that about it.
Any particular build i should opt for , i notice ST15 /ST15i have been used around.
Cheers!
See under the battery. It should be 11W41(i.e. 2011 Week 41) or later.

Hi!
It is very unlikely that i'll get to open the box up and inspect it. Is there any way by looking at the box on the outside?
Cheers!
Hi, my battery says 11W28, what is the significance of 11W41 over 11W28?
Thanks
Mark
It's a code showing when the phone was manufactured - "41" is "newer" than "28". (basically - week numbers in 2011)
For the most part, it makes no real difference - unless there's been a significant hardware revision. In this case, Sony Ericsson recently claimed to have made a hardware change that reduces or removes a known problem with audio interference when using the video camera. That makes "41" and onward phones more desirable and less likely to have that problem.

It seems you/people are confusing the problems of the Mini Pro SK17i with the Mini ST15i, which the OP is asking about.
Although superficially similar, the Mini is a different device to the Mini Pro and doesn't have those audio interference problems, weak reception or poor GPS.
To the contrary, the Mini has first class reception in real life (a German magazine said the ST15i has the best 3G reception of any devices they measured so far), a good audio quality and smooth operation.
It has some thermal problems, but the latest Android 2.3.4 takes care of that, some need a recalibration of the touchscreen. Otherwise it is trouble-free and smooth to use, offers a precise touchscreen and a bright display. One has to root it to get rid of the crapware and free up some memory.
All in all, and compared also to my Defy, my Mini (made 11W29) is fast and capable, offers a very good value for the money. It is a more telephony oriented device, for emphasis on surfing a larger, higher resolution screen is a better choice, of course.
Thanks for the input guys. I get a feeling this has been discussed to death ,but i have yet to read up a deal of user experiences. How does the battery fare? Does one need to root it to improve the performance? Is there a possibility of swapping the existing battery for a newer higher powered one ?
Cheerss!

You're right - my bad.
It's a bit confusing at times - having a bunch of different phones all lumped together in the same forum sections just because they carry the Xperia name.

Root is recommended to get rid of the crapware memory occupants (in RAM and ROM), and also to use some practical apps which require root. But performance & user experience are already smooth and fast (in contrast to my Defy), with no annoying lags, I see no need for overclocking at all or even for a modded firmware. This thing is already as capable as bigger phones, with 1GHz and a small screen it is well equipped (flash support included). Overclocking would be a bad idea IMHO, because the heat may already be at its limits sometimes in this compact device.
The battery lasts longer than in my Defy. If you can find a better battery, I don't know. Also, as all 2011 Xperia devices, it will get ICS next year.
Among the other androids in the small smartphone class, the ST15i looks like the most capable. I originally wanted the SK17i, but after following the user's experinces for some months now I decided to get the less troublesome and cheaper device.
Thread ressurection! My device came in. It is a W30 , not sure if this is prone to any issues?
More importantly, I noticed that most unboxings had replaceable battery covers included in the box; but mine are "missing". If I have a look at the sony website It adds up.
What’s in the box?
Battery EP500 & USB cable
EC450Screen protector ET921
Memory card 2GB
Stereo Headset MH650
I would still like to confirm that some one has not pulled a fast one on me.
Ps: The phone was purchased from carphonewarehouse and not a doggy ebay buyer.
Cheers!

Don't worry, the number of included back covers or the type of the headsets does vary by country, operator or dealer. There are several kinds of packages, even a "Ladyphone" version, which includes a bracelet. My package contained the MH410 headset with a straigt instead of an angled plug, and no screen protector.
Now, how do you like the little thing?
Cheers mate! That takes a load off my mind
I am in complete awe of the display. I have not had the chance to take it for a proper spin, so definitely more to follow. Just upgraded to latest android on the device.
Being my first smart phone , i am still finding my feet... I end up launching applications when i am changing panes ; touch the wrong number/alphabet on the keypad etc. The device is incredibly responsive...Oh and i botched up applying the screen protector.... I had to bin it in the end....so looks like i'll need to run out and get a new one
The battery does seem to be draining rapidly, but as I understand, it will improve over a couple of cycles... I have put all internet traffic to off at the moment... My data plan has not kicked in yet.
Can you please suggest , without rooting, what can be done to improve performance of the battery?
I have done the following so far
1) Turned Internet traffic off
2) Brightness down to 70%
3) Animations - Some only.
Cheers!

I wanted to know if there are any other accessories which i should probably invest in ? Being my first smart phone, I am not sure on the build quality and how it is going to perform on drop-testing. Personally I'd rather avoid roll-cages for phones , as they add to the size.
It's me again. So i have tested the phone for short time, but the screen feels a bit of too small, even if it says it's same size as x8 i got impression that it is even smaller then x8. I curious how does it feel to surf web on it and to write messages, does it work fine on that size? The screen felt very responsive but still i didn't take it yet cause of the size. Also is it possible to play games on it like fruit ninja, or with emulator for snes/gba because i would like to complete some old games again . Thanks in advance

great phone
I got one of the (made 11W29 also) had no problems. i had some small issues with text input at first, it would double the letter eg it would put II aa tthe at the start of every post. This was fixed with a ota update. i would say this phone has the best GPS on a phone i have ever used. its a little power house. amazing really.
Most people underrate this phone because of its size and maybe think its the old x10 hardware. it does use the battery up at a fair rate of nots though. And im not keen on the usb cover. it also plays flash with ease. i put spb shell from the market on mine.

The screen size was the same with x8 but Xperia mini frame was slimer than x8. Btw x8 speaker quality is better than Xperia mini.

Thx for reply. It looks like it's a very good phone, i will most likely get it. Speaker isn't such a big problem, i read that the sound with headphones is good which is a more important thing because i use my phone as a mp3 player a lot. I was mostly worried about the text input and overheating problem. Also, should i put a custom rom on it or keep the original?
You should start using stock rom first. With some customization, it will be great. Now I I'm using stock rom and customized it.
For consideration if you use custom rom you will lose :
1. Time Scape
2. Gesture input
3. Track ID
4. DLNA (maybe)

It's a great phone, only paid £130 sim-free for mine in the UK; but the memory is small (512Mb). I just upgraded to ICS and rooted, and despite spending a couple of days fiddling around to reduce ram-hungry apps and processes, the dialer will occasionally crash when I try and use it, due to lack of available RAM. I am going to have to strip down even more apps and widgets to make it reliable. On Gingerbread I had the same number of apps and widgets and there were less problems. So if you are going to hang on to your next phone for a while, I would suggest waiting for a phone with 1Gb+ of memory.
I dont have any but any problems from day one,no.crashes.and wifi tetherimg always.worked, using my country costomized rom heres after 24 h phone usage ram,no killing or whatever.

there are specific set of people which would be even more than happy with Xperia U. these are the normal, general, non-power users upgrading from a dumbphone, or even smartphone owners before 2011.
from their old unit, they can now experience android and the apps it offers. with even better than usable single cores out there, they even get dual core CPU power, to browse the net, take and view pictures, internet messaging via whatsapp/imo, skype video calls, socialize in facebook/twitter, watch youtube, email, create short notes on notes applications, and many other useful tasks... all rendered in a bravia screen with high density of pixels which is very sharp and beautiful. the transparent color changing bar is another attractive feature which sets it apart from other phones which generally, all look alike.
the only thing not possible here would be the things that require storage, like local movie watching and to some extent music collection playing.
any other else, its as good as whatever phones out there.
with the expertise of the devs here in xda, who knows what more it can do.
thanks darth5zaft, I've tried that before but then gave it another shot after reading your post - but I still get lags and freezes when I have an app open and a call, or an sms comes through, everything slows down. So I've gone back now to using Auto Memory Manager off the Play Store, which might be doing the same sort of thing but I haven't had any slow-downs or lags over the last 24 hours, everything is zippy and I can't see the battery draining any faster
I agree, this phone does most of what a more expensive phone would do - I originally bought it just to replace the Nexus S I had which crapped out, with the plan being to upgrade at the end of that two year contract next March, but I will probably keep it a bit longer now that its set up nicely, there's little else I'm missing really.
Go for xperia u
U will luv it
Nice looks
Dual core
Plays hd games smoothly
Decent battery ( after. 54 fw )
And superb pricing
And regarding lagging
Almost all phones on stock fw lags
Even my father's galaxy note lags sometimes
So if u want to buy a decent budget android smartphone wid power bt limited space go for xperia u

Has anybody else experienced or is experiencing rather poor ram management on their S6e?
I'm finding app refreshes really quite abundant. Yes they refresh quickly in most cases but they are refreshes nether the less.
Worst are apps that dump you out of what you are doing like Tapatalk.
System manager tells me I gave 400mb free and yet app refreshes are a common occurrence.
My nexus 6 rarely has to auto refresh - indeed conversely I can open Tapatalk on that and have to manually refresh to get content. But at least I never get dumped out of a thread and taken back to menu.
The Galaxy S5 was poor enough with memory management, I hoped the 3gb in the S6e would put an end to forced reloads & refreshes but nope.
I have a sim free factory unlocked model, no carrier bloat and have factory restored and still same issue persists.
Its as if Touchwiz despite certain improvements is as memory hungry and uncouth as it ever was.
I know how you feel. RAM is always almost full even if there are no apps running. I can multitask without refreshes if I go to an app for a few seconds. But if I spend like even just a minute then I get a refresh. Even with just one tab on Google Chrome, I get a refresh immediately by just using Facebook for a while. I mean wtf?
I believe it's due to the memory leak on 5.0.1 wait till we get 5.1 to see if they fix this issue

No memory leak is only on nexus devices and related to its particular bootloader - something Samsung device doesn't have. It won't improve if it's not good now.

Yep exactly as you describe and it's really quite annoying. Feels like the phone is being gimped by its OS Skin. We shouldn't be having this issue on a 2015 3gb top of range device.

Yep. How come all the so called in depth reviews never mentioned this issue. To me aggressive memory killing and excessive ram usage is far more detrimental to user experience than the odd bit of lag, yet the only thing we kept getting told is how lag free this device would be and how super fast the ram is.... And yet it can barely keep 4 apps in memory for 5 minutes. Its really frustrating.

ikr.. they didnt mention this ram thing at all. are they even used this phone at all to post those reviews?!? I was using an iPhone 6 Plus before, and I never had this issue at all. I hope they can fix this as soon as possible.
I don't think the reviers use it really all that much. I don't think they load a lot of apps like most us users.. Idk it is sad. I also think Pandora for example is weird. Once you hit pause the icon disappears on top. So it's free to get killed. When songza for example, just pauses and keeps an icon on top. I'll almost chalk that up to bad programming. But fb, chrome and whatever, yea.. Sucky
It's really irritating. My 6 plus with 1gb of ram is better than this. What I don't get is you can have 400mb plus of ram available and stuff starts closing. Makes no sense.
I had this issue with my nexus too, and my s5 with lollypop.. I wonder if there is a settinf

Yep... I have less refreshes with my 6+ too.
The 400mb free ram available thing irks me too - if it's free why isn't it being used ? And what the heck is using up the 2.4gb before it ? Even when I tell it to close all my apps the most I have free is around 700mb which soon drops back to the 400-480mb mark. It's crazy how memory hungry and inefficient it's being.
holy crap! finally!
I've been searching for a thread like this for a week. Just got my phone a few days ago and man the ram management is piss poor. My HTC M7 doesn't have this issue. Yeah I have a stock UK/Ireland factory unbranded handset, so its not carrier app fault either unfortunately.
The M7 & M8 are both excellent indeed - with near stock android levels of memory management, which only goes to prove an android skin doesn't have to suck the life out of a device, which is exactly what Touchwiz feels like its doing.
The S5 wasn't great memory management wise, the Note 4 was good but no where near as good as the Note 3 memory wise and sadly the S6e seems very poor especially when you consider it has 3gb. So it seems to me since the Note 3 Samsung's flagships have been getting worse ram management wise rather than better.
I have a €950 flagship phone which handles memory about as good as a Moto G with 1gb.

so you're telling me that the S5 for a year now still has crappy ram management??? that's just crazy and boggles my mind. i seriously don't want to keep this phone for 2 years of this nonsense (i get a new phone every 2 years). if that's the case i might just return this phone. as good as it is, that's almost a deal breaker to me. i always multitask switching from web page to messenger, to camera, sports apps etc.. etc.. then back to web page just to see it auto refresh every time! if i'm just bouncing back and forth between a couple apps within a min or so it doesn't seem to do this but after about 5 mins.. it never fails.. auto refresh is a certain. so sad. i don't want to go back to apple, but right now, i might have to return this phone and wait for iPhone 6S.
what also baffles me is that i don't seem to see much people talking about this issue considering this is a flagship phone and millions have already been sold worldwide.

I think because the phone is otherwise very very fast some folks may not be noticing the refreshes. Its certainly more noticeable on apps that drop you out of what you were doing back to a previous menu screen like Tapatalk.
I think people genuinely want to believe the
Hype that the S6 & S6e are the nirvana of android...
I must admit I too am shocked folks aren't complaining more or are giving the device an easy pass on this issue, but for me its a total PITA.
I will keep the S6e until the next update and hope that has some memory tweaks, but if it doesn't I'll consider just selling it on.
I tiped phonearena about this issu and they announced it today so maybe this will open some eyes in Samsung dep.

So far, ive had issues of battery drain with bundled apps such as the AMAZON app store, as most of us here are already aware. I wonder if this ram issue has to do with the same preloaded apps causing issues? What about people who rooted and reinstalled all Play-Store-Reinstallable apps, through the Play store, has that cleared this issue? Maybe the misbehaving apps are taking their system-level privilege a little too far?
Glad some review sites are taking an eye on this. It's actually really annoying. Even my music app constantly shuts off and I have to force it to cause a wake lock for it not to shut off (poweramp has this option)

Hello there,
I mainly want this tablet only for two purposes, one is browsing and another is watching movies.
But i just came to know that this tablet has an aspect ration of 4:3 and watching movies in this tablet will cause the movies to end up with two black spaces on either side.
Will this take away the experience of watching a movie? Other than from Browsing(which i'v heard this tablet is very good) my main usage is at watching Youtube videos and Movies.
Can any of you be kind enough to tell me about these and if this tablet is still good enough to purchase?
Regards,
Adi4u4882
I have this tablet. Its great. Had I known it would NEVER get updated to Android 5 or Android 6.. I would never have bought it. Dont be deceived by the updates it gets now. Those are just APP updates. Since it launched what about 2 years ago now its still on Android 4.4.4.
I would buy something else.. In the long run its worth it.
I have bought this tablet for my wife. Good thing was that i had few days for myself to test it. The big worry was that it will come all in China language and no Play store. As it turns out not to worry. There was English as default (even Polish was an option) and there was Google Play. All works superb. For this price its a bargain of the year. My wife use this tablet for imgur, google books and games so she is more then happy.
The only small problem... If you ever will want to do factory reset you need to have a google keyboard app ready. After FR there is no keyboard at all... so you cant connect to wifi and you have to have app on the sdcard.
Thats all from me.
For somebody who is not bother with the old software (kitkat) then this is a perfect tablet.

Hey, can you explain what you mean? As far i know, Miui 7 was released sometime now and its based on Lolipop. Its available for Mipad here-> http://en.miui.com/download-229.html
What he means is that MIUI 7 for MiPad is based on KitKat.
Ya for watching movies it is a little odd one. In case of YouTube it's fine
Then about KitKat OMDG PLZ its crap
Don't know whether you are a nerd or not..... Any way its been 2months iam using it and here is my verdict
Pros:
1. Blistering performance
2. Nvidia CPU and GPU are doing best for a hand
held device.
3. Gaming is a whole new level
4. LG battery is a true power source for long time and
charge up quickly

Ty for the post mate, i was thinking to buy the device but i was hoping that miui 7 is based on Lollipop (that apparently itsnot) and that the tablet could be a bit more solid. I will check for something else, take care
As far as device being stuck with KitKat -- are there any specific apps you wanted to run on the tablet and couldn't because they require the newer OS?
Without going the CM route, can the Google Launcher be installed on it?
Funny enough that my wife did want this tablet to be her candy crash saga device she couldnt install it from playstore. We had to download an older version and put the apk on the device and then i installed. Apart from that all the apps she is using on htc one (LP) she is using on MIPad

Global Stable Build only. AFAIK it will still be based on kitkat.
Have it since its release.
Its fantastic .
Great sound for movies and music.
Runs any game smoothly.
Browsing is effortlessly.
Nice is nice , not to big not to small.
Overall if you want a tablet that will just perform without hiccups then this is a good option.
eventhough this device has cm12.1 port but still its not for daily driver. xiaomi doesn't even release the sources.
I was really looking forward to buying this device keeping in mind the specs & pricing. Cant really decide if i should buy this Mipad or wait for the Mipad 2.
So far the the Mipad 2 only offers a mild upgrade in terms of processor (whose gaming performance I'm totally unsure of) & build quality. Infact the lack of expandable memory slot rather makes want to avoid waiting for the mipad 2.
Although Mipad is stuck on Kitkat, the fine Nvidia gpu makes sure it can run any game you throw at it with ease. The real question is with the lack of updates from xiaomi, how long will mipad continue to be a master amongst gaming tablets ?
Please suggest me if I should buy this device or if there is anything better in the market around this price range, considering this device is almost 2 years old now.
You know what, as the micro-USB charging port on my Teclast P70 started to malfunction less than a year of use in, I've grown more fond of the Type-C connector. While wherever MiPad 2 being an upgrade over MiPad in terms of the raw power is arguable, the Type-C connector and newer OS would sway me to by a MiPad 2.
Yes
I'm regret too. Better buy NVidia Shield Tab. :crying::crying:
Its Great
Its a great device for media consumption , browsing , watching movies and playing games but not so good in terms of multitasking as MIUI is quite heavy and it has only 2GB ram but it does all other things smoothly without issues ! In this price range , atleast i think this is the best

Regards,

Simply put, NO. Nobody really mentions the overheat, the persistent lag throughout the UI, etc. I purchased this and the Redmi Note 2 together new and both have been a disaster. The Mi 3W was like the best thing in the world until the sim adapter ruined the sim pins. The Mi 4 was great although it overheated as well in Performance Mode, but performance wouldn't really drop because of the heat. The Mi Note was the love of my life until my son caused me to accidentally drop it two weeks after buying it.
Mi Pad? Terrible. It's nothing like MIUI on any other device. Heck, even the nice MIUI port for the Nexus 7 2012 and 2013 give those two LIFE. But this thing has been a disaster. The UI isn't smooth, not even browsing or typing. The heat? I mean I'm typing this all on it on Balanced Mode, brightness a little over half, no other apps running, no vibration, no sound and average room temp and it's already at 37.2° Celsius (98.96° Fahrenheit). Gaming? I think you can cook an egg on the back. It will throttle. Even ran the 3D Mark "Ice storm Unlimited" benchmark while hot a few days ago and it told me that the device was not at its best and should probably have some background apps closed or given time to cool down. Sure, not everyone wants to game on it even though the GPU was designed for that, but again, typing this up is giving it a bit of a struggle to keep its cool.
It is a beautiful device, and no device is perfect, but I really wouldn't recommend it. Thankfully the heat has not caused my battery to drain at the moment it is occurring (I have seen this with other devices I've owned), but heat + battery = problematic battery in a closer than expected future.
I really don't want to shart on your hopes, but when I read about it, it was a must have for me. Sadly, it was not what I expected.
*If its at a good price and SEALED NEW, sure go for it. But otherwise, big no.
IF IT IS A MI PAD 2, RESEARCH ISSUES FIRST.
Thanks for your candid response. Any potential Mi Pad *2* buyers may also want to consider the fact that Intel has recently decided to drop the entire Atom division (Mi Pad 2 is powered by Intel Atom X5-Z8500), so I wouldn't hold my breath for *any* Android updates for existing Atom-based products.
Has mi pad improved its software?
Its June 2016, has mi pad updates able to solve the heating and other issues till now or this is still a no buy?
Alternatively, is the cm-11 build stable enough for mi pad?
Cm11 is quite stable.
I use Cm11 and it'sfine overall. I get the occasional unexpected app closure but it's not an issue.
I use it for browsing, ebooks and youtube mainly.
Hope this helps.
Hi everyone!
I am new on the forums and I hope I got the right forum to ask this question
I have a chance to purchase Leeco Le Max 2 X820 for 180 euros. This phone is 1 month old and sold by someone over the internet. So not buying it from the shop.
These are the quick specs but I am sure you already know them:
5.7 inch 2560*1440 Pixel 2K screen
CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, quad core, 2.15GHz, 64bit, GPU Adreno 530
4GB LPDDR4 RAM + 32GB ROM UFS 2.0
Metal unibody,3100 mAh battery with fast charge
What I need the phone for?
I need the phone to run my websites, use WordPress, google analytics, google webmasters and bunch of other browser-based apps. I also need it to use bunch of online storages such as google drive, onelive and dropbox.
Besides this, I need it to run excel and word and to access like 10 email accounts.
On top of all that I need to run bunch of social media apps and to use multi logins with them. Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook etc.
This is to be a work phone for me to run my social media and website presence because I am not always on my laptop.
Until now I was using my poor 5 years old Huawei G620s and he barely survives 20% of what I need from him but he scores 12000 on antutu so thats understandable. This LeEco can score up to 140K on antutu which makes him more than 10x stronger.
Will I be able to use this LeEco phone without any lag while jumping between emails, google chrome and social media apps?
I have no intention of playing games with it, even thou I would love to but no time for that sadly.
Also did you ever experience a problem with this phone in terms of any part of it dying? I will not get any warranty so I was wondering if the phone is easy to die.
Thank you in advance!
That guy sell because the phone got problem. If you are ok with non-working fingerprint and also glitchy screen, go ahead and buy it.

What makes you say that? Are those problems common with this phone?
I would check everything before buying it

It sounds like you need a lot of battery. The 2K Screen will drain your battery but it's not too bad. If you really need that battery you would be able to get out more with le pro 3 elite. The elite version has also the same chipset but it has only 1080p screen and 4000 mAh battery. But still the le max 2 is really good for it's value but sometimes people get some defect fingerprint sensors or screen glitches (I was lucky to get neither of those issues) and I'm not sure if it's the same case with le pro 3. And don't buy it from another person, you would most likely need that warranty.
In the end I bought xiaomi note 4 which is a bit weaker than this leeco but I bought it with less money in the store and I got warranty so that's a big plus.
So far works amazing. Thank you for your help though
I faced only finger print problem.
and for your daily work, I recommend you to buy it.
it is super fast with SD 820

Definitely check the fingerprint sensor. It's a chronic and established problem with this phone.
Also, don't forget to check the IMEI blacklist! FOR BOTH SIMS!

For that price you get the 4GB / 64GB version from an online shop with 1 ~ 12 months warranty.

I wouldn't oversell the warranty - but he's not wrong about the price. Might as well get it new if you're going to buy it.
I know from banggood I bought mine several months ago at $270 Canadian Pesos, so I mean, Euros probably stack up pretty well against its current price.
I bought mine for ~300 euros . I use 6GB ram / 64GB storage version and here is the list of things i know that tend to glich ( at least for me):
- fingerprint sensor is dead. period. It worked well and REALLY FAST for like 4-5 months, after that, nothing.
- screen gliches out sometimes, like half of wallpaper is out of screen area, no idea why, some apps have same problem. It looks like bottom right corner of the app is moved to the middle of the screen and rest moves somewhere outside.
- app sync. some apps like what's app sync with no problem, you got message? instant beep. other apps like meesenger sometimes does not. you have to go to app, and do manual refresh.
- Battery life - sometimes it's so good phone lasts 3 days and sometimes, process like "system service" that runs most of things in your phone, (gps, messages etc.) gliches out and drains your entire battery dry in 5 hours ( not mentioning phone temperature hits 43 degree) even when iddle in your pocket, with no apps in background.
- battery life again, sometimes phone charges max to 95%, sometimes to 98% and sometimes to 100% no idea why again.
most of the issues above, is caused but stock rom, so if you don't change it, all of these above will happen to you.
Overall, this phone is amazing for doing all you need and more but the issues above just kill the fun of using it so don't bother geting into this mess, really, not worth it.
