what about losing the great camera? that's what been holding me back from CM since Galaxy S5.
first CM build success.
Building 64 bit android takes double time.
this ROM is not booted yet.
Galaxy S6 Logo -> Black screen.
logcat says "I have some problems with framebuffer!".
I'll do more shoveling.

Hi there, you're not the only one who's trying and not the only one who isn't booting yet. Want to join us? It's better than fighting alone, and CM for Exynos will be much harder after it boots, trust me.

If it boots again, then yes. We're actually planning a unified build, unified to the degree as the kernels and roms available here.
So no CDMA phones, to answer a question I can already see arising.. That means no P and whatever CDMA-carriers there are out there.
But with Exynos that is still far away in the distant future.. Making CM for Exynos is different than for Qualcomm and a lot more difficult, like writing certain drivers, or at least re-writing them. Couple of months at the least would be my guess. Not anytime soon

Great! We are coming closed to an unofficial CM12.1 build

Hey guys!
As you maybe know, we have the newest Android 4.4 but only a 3.0 Kernel. But we need the newer versions since Android is based of this new ones and if the gap between our version and Google's version is too big, it will take a long time to reach this. So i would say: "We need a newer kernel, let's go for it!" and i wanted to know if anybody is willing or if somebody is even able to port the 3.4 (or a newer version like 3.10 or 3.12) to our device to get better performance and to be safe to get all updates. If anybody is able and wants to help, please write it here or PM me. Also we should form a dev team to have the control over this project.
So if anybody is willing to, I will really appreciate it. I start this project on my own and you can join in to help and contribute your knowledge to this project. I will provide more info if needed. And yes, I know that it will be difficult but it is possible to reach the target.
Greets and best regards,
markey
If you want, have a look over here:Thread in development discussion section
Edit1: As i've seen in the poll, everybody (till now) wants the 3.4 kernel to be ported. So I have another question: Do you want me to port the 3.10 (or higher) Kernel also, after the 3.4 is running stable?
If yes, just write at the end of your post. Thanks. :good:
Edit2: I have decided to start porting the 3.1x+ Kernel based on dorimanx' sources first and then will try to port 3.4 cause 3.4 will have a better ability to be well integrated into Android till now and 3.10+ will take us one step further and keep us on track for the next Android versions which will be propably based on 3.8 or 3.10 Kernel.
If you have questions what this upgrade will (roughly) bring us, have a look at my last post in this thread.
This is great. It will be HARD, but, worth it. Just, maybe, this will see completion one day. I'll copy in kernel devs if I were you.

Stunning idea! I just wish I already had the knowledge and the time to help, but I really hope this takes off!
edit. go for 3.10-3.12 of course, the Sky's the limit, but 3.4 is a good stopgap as it runs on similar Samsung-devices ...
Someone could try merging dorimanx smdk4210 (s2) Kernel. He has already merged most of 3.13, and our s3 kernel is also working for s2, after cm had merged some parts.

Thank you for that great info DerTeufel, I will see when I can start to merge it and work on it. So it would mean, we could directly start at 3.13. Isn't that great? I will search for his git, and then i will compare our actual kernels with a 3.0 s2 kernel and see what i have to change. Most difficult part will be to get it booting...rest shouldn't be a thing that big. Let's wait and see.

Maybe stupid question, this kernel will be used only on AOSP Roms?, or may run on sammy roms?

No its no stupid question, just ask if you want to know anything. You're welcome and i am here to answer questions :good:
And now to your question: For now, its meant to run on AOSP ROMs and then afterwards, I will take a deeper look and see if I can get it running good on Sammy, so just wait a bit
And I think I will add features of googy-max kernel, devil-kernel, boeffla-kernel...whatever you want, just write it then when its running fine, and i will try to add it.
I also already thought about adding dual-boot, so yes, you will most likely see Sammy support in this kernel. And afterwards, I will try to make it a kexec kernel and get multiROM or sth like this running, to have e.g. Android and Ubuntu Touch on 1 single device

Very nice initiative. Devs in SGS Plus (i9001) also made a fully working 3.4 kernel from the scratch (CAF sources at least ) and now they can release KitKat without pains

Haha I know, I own this device myself and followed all developement of the 3.4 Kernel and all other work done by ADC team. :good: They used CAF sources but we will use sources from dorimanx cause we have an exynos processor.
Erik is a good dev, isn't he? Thanks to him we also got dual boot and I think we can also get further versions of Android thanks to ADC team.
Well, we will see how good I can get this working in a short time.

Same resolution. I believe it's actually the exact same panel (only Note has S pen). The major difference is the CPU/GPU.

Hi XDA people, I have the pleasure to present you the ultimate J5 2016 roms' and kernels' thread.
Before everything, I am going to explain you the story of all the roms and kernels development for J5 2016...
Everything started in November, 2016, there was a man, called @KingRaheel who started making the first two official custom roms, they were Light Stock Rom and Williams Hybrid Note 7 Rom...
They were heavy and full of bugs, but on January he released Light Stock Rom V3 but he closed Williams Hybrid Note 7 Rom project because he didnt have the device... He was working blindfolded...
I started to help him testing all he had done... Reporting bugs... But when he gave up, he gave both projects to the Big Boss,
@GeneticEnginer, but by then he was only an apprentice, and @KingRaheel had to teach him all his knowledge...
After a long period of time, he released more projects and started to collaborate with other Big Bosses... they were @Wizardlysense @zonik and others...
He started working very hard, but how he was going to the university, so he didn't has enough time to develop with university exams between... But he achieved it, he released a lot of projects, fully working, with very little quantity of bugs... Then he created his own kernel too... Basically, he took the situation very very well...
After a long time, he finally achieved it, he achieved porting CyanogenMod 13 and Lineage OS 14.1 to J5 2016, a very hard challange. Then, J5 2016 community started helping him, giving a lot of feedback and trying to solve some bugs... Like in call audio (the worst and most difficult to solve).
While he was hard working, other developers made other builds for J5 2016, and now, we are here, with a Mega account with all the roms, and kernels of J5 2016 community...
I repeat, thanks a lot for all your job, you made this possible. We love you <3

Edit: Anyone on v2. Google now feeds don't work. The device gets laggy and weird behaviour so I have to reboot.

Hellow XDA people, I have the plessure to present you the ultimate J5 2016 ROMS and KERNELS thread.
Before everything, I will explain you all J5 2016 rom and kernel development story...
Everything started in November, 2016, there was a man, called @KingRaheel who started making the first two official custom roms, they were Light Stock Rom and Williams Hybrid Note 7 Rom... They were heavy and full of bugs, but on January he released Light Stock Rom and he closed Williams Hybrid Note 7 Rom project because he didnt have the device... He was working blindfolded...
I started to help him testing all he had done... Reporting bugs... But when he gave up, he gave both projects to the BIG BOSS, @GeneticEnginer he was a learner, and @KingRaheel gave him all his knowledge... After a long period of time, he released more projects and started to collaborate with other BIG BOSSES... they were @[email protected] and others...
He started working very hard, with university exams between... But he did it, he released a lot of projects, fully working, with very little quantity of bugs... He created his own kernel... Basically, he took the situation very very well...
After a long time... Finally he did it, he ported CyanogenMOD 13 and LineageOS 14.1 to J5 2016. Then, J5 2016 community started helping him with bugs... Like incall audio (the worst one). And now, we are here, with a mega account with all the roms, and all the kernels of J5 2016 community...
I repeat, thanks a lot for all your job, you made this possible. We love you <3
Special Thanks to:
@KingRaheel
@GeneticEnginer
@Wizardlysense
@Demicro
@lemlis
@zonik

You need to wait another few weeks i thinks
Why do you have all this fuss over LAOS 15? Is there something wrong with the 14.1 you're using? The device is old and you should thank for still having maintainers, and have made this old device reach so far. But if you are in such a hurry, it would be better to change the device, change it into a device that has already received the unofficial version, it is an excellent option. Otherwise, will wait with everyone.

Yup, true, I am very happy with my 7.1 and do not need a 8.0... BUT, yes, Lineage 15 WILL be for S3 (wait for 2018)
My s3 has became my backup phone,but LOS14.1 gives me more fun on my old phone.Wish to get oreo update. And I think if android one project can be port to s3 will get a lot more fun.

But what does this have to do with the ROM itself? what is well explained is that they will develop kernels only for specific OnePlus browsers, those who do not use these custom kernels, this news has little or no relevance. I used the boeffla kernel a few times, but if I put it on the tip of the pencil, it did not serve me as satisfactorily as the LOS kernel, so it's not sad news, so to speak. What's more, the new version of android will bring the benefits you need, which is a better RAM management and less battery consumption, something many were looking for using custom kernels to do underclock.:good:

Oreo is said to be optimized for "low end" devices and is requiring far less resources. So the expectation is that 8.0 will run much smooter on the i9300 than 7.1.
It is a pity that there will be no lineage 15 for the gt-i9300
